I am a youth development enthusiast, sincere cat lover and strategist.

When it comes to the work I do, I am lucky to enjoy my job as a professor, consultant and passionate public speaker.

Who or what inspires you?

Any person who succeeds despite poverty, personal difficulties, special needs or discrimination. Women who fight child marriage and domestic violence are just amazing. I believe they deserve all the respect in the world.

Tell us about your education.

I thought I would continue in the field of computer science but life offered me a different journey with a PhD in marketing.

What do you mean by a Growth Mindset?

It is based on Dr. Carol Dweck (an amazing woman) and her studies and books on the power of mindset and growth mindset.

Basically, you need to believe that you can always have better abilities and better performance if you put your mind to it and you work on it. When you believe there is always room for improvement, then everything can be possible. High performers and highly successful people believe in this fact and they thrive for more success and prosperity because they think and plan with growth mindset.

Tell us about your career path so far.

My career followed my development and growth as a person. Teaching/consulting was my full-time job but as I developed my skills and rediscovered my passion, I realized that my impact in the world could be manifested in different ways. I opened my eyes and my mind to new opportunities and found myself moving towards public speaking and coaching.

How did you get interested in public speaking?

Since I was a child, I never feared facing an audience. Some people used to think I would end up in the entertainment and media field. Throughout my teaching years I developed my skills and gained the ability to understand and read the audience and to change my style while still keeping their attention. I realized that public speaking was the logical outcome and destination as a result of my experience.

You are a big advocate of personal branding. What is it all about?

I believe social media has given power to a lot of people who are not the best role models we need for our kids. It is the right time to highlight the real inspiring and successful individuals. Personal branding will help those who have inspiring stories but lack the marketing skills.

You are a marketing and growth coach. What services do you offer to individuals and companies?

Basically, I help successful people to grow and perform better. I try to direct them to focus on the main aspect of their career and personality so they can develop and grow.

Marketing is a major aspect of that kind of growth. I help them to do the right research in order to open new doors to further success in their work. I also help them to think strategically about their marketing planning to maintain success and growth.

What is the biggest reward in the work you do?

I get to see people change and flourish in front of my eyes. I see their prosperity and their success stories. There are no words to explain the happiness I feel when I meet a successful young woman/man and they tell me they changed because they attended my classes. It’s like being a partner or a leading actor in their success story. This impact will never die because it What makes you different? My relationship with my husband should never be affected by work. Finally, I take care of all of the work matters. I create another layer of priorities related to work. I prefer to have deadlines and to work on no more than two projects at a time, besides my work as a professor.

Your message to women on this International Women’s Day? Social media is just to entertain you so do not build your life around it. Take care of yourself always. Workout on a regular basis and eat healthily without depriving yourself of the food you like. Be a giver because when you give God will reward you with happiness and many other pleasant surprises. Finally, be strong but don’t forget that God created you with the gift to stay sweet and caring.

SARAH BEHBEHANI “Sport kept me focused on my mental discipline.”

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

I was born on November 03, 1989 in California, San Francisco and raised in Kuwait. My mother encouraged me to play tennis from the age of 9 and I soon got into the national team for the under 12s. I currently hold the no. 1 spot in national rankings.

Tell us about your education.

High school: The British School of Kuwait.

University: The American University of Kuwait – Bachelor of Marketing.

Tell us about your career journey.

I started playing tennis when I was 9 years old. When I was about 14, it really hit me that I could do this professionally.

However, in Kuwait the support for women in sports limits us to reach our goals. To play tennis professionally, players need 25 hours of tennis and fitness training a week, and players should spend the weekend competing in tournaments. In Kuwait, we are lacking this type of training. Therefore, I joined a tennis academy in Florida, Tampa to get a higher level of preparation to develop my skills.

How do you manage your time? Describe your average day.

A usual day for me is tennis training at the Kuwait Tennis Federation located in Mushrif. I usually train from 5-6.30am and end the session with sport specific fitness training. I try to do that in the evenings also. Other than tennis, I hang out with friends, family and enjoy coaching tennis part time.

What is your biggest strength?

Mental strength is a huge aspect of my game and also my serve.

Do you have any weaknesses?

My spending habit. I am working hard to improve!

What have been the biggest challenges you’ve faced during your career?

Play tennis because you love the game, not because you love the limelight.

I train with a private coach almost every day. However, as a female athlete in Kuwait I cannot devote myself full time to the extensive training required. Instead, I have to work full-time to fund my living and training cost which is a big challenge and somehow limits my maximum potential.

Staying fit is also a challenge. I try to change my exercise routine and with the help of technology, it has really helped me perform better and longer. It’s amazing to see many athletes in different sports playing harder and performing stronger at an older age, such as Roger Federer and Serena Williams.

How do you stay motivated during challenging times?

In general, I think sport benefits people in many different ways especially on how to handle challenging times. For me, sport kept me focused on my mental discipline. In addition, sport helped in viewing myself more positively as it improved my mental clarity. Most importantly, I believe being part of the national team has taught me to be a leader, whether vocally, or by example.

What do you do to relax?

Shower or take a nap.

What has been your proudest moment so far?

I have participated and won medals in ITF junior, Arab countries tournament, Islamic countries, West Asia, Asian Olympics, Gulf countries, and local tournaments. I’ve always wanted to play professionally, that was always my dream. Being able to represent my country all over the world has been an indescribable feeling.

What is your biggest fear?

Have you made any mistakes that have made Bicycles and the colour red. you stronger?

I try to get a lot of practice in to avoid mistakes. I train on What is your favourite quote? playing singles or doubles, depending on the tournament I am preparing for. In your opinion, what are the three keys to success?

I always tell younger players to have fun with the game.

Most importantly, always love the game, it will make working towards your dreams that much more exciting.

Always work hard and believe in yourself. That’s what it takes.

What is next for you? What would you still like to achieve?

To keep improving and working as hard as I can every day and really give it my all. One big goal for me is to end the year participating in a few more WTA tournaments and keep moving forward. However, in Kuwait sports are not considered commercially attractive so I find it very hard to get sponsors. If the support was there, it would create influential athletes who would become strong role models for younger generations.

What advice would you give to young women starting out in their career?

I can tell them so many things. I think what’s most important for young women is that they get their education and have fun while achieving their athletic goals. Always work devotedly every day in becoming that player or athlete you want to become.

How does it feel to be a CP Woman of Substance?

DR. AMAR BEHBEHANI “Time is not a linear process for me.”

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

I am a woman, a daughter, a wife, a companion, a leader, an innovator, a designer, an artist, a life scientist, a therapist and, most importantly, an educator.

Tell us about your education.

My educational journey represents who I am as a person.

I am a visionary and an explorer and my educational journey was rather a challenge. First of all, as a high school student I always loved the sciences and the arts. I majored in mathematics but my heart was with fine arts, crafts, music, sports and dance. I loved expression and silent thinking at the same time. Everyone expected me to be a physician or an engineer. However, deep inside I wanted more than the normal path of honor student education. I wanted to be something different. I earned a scholarship from the government to study Mass Communication so I earned a Bachelor in Visual Journalism and had a triple minor in fine arts, theatre design and cinematography.

Then I earned a Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Visual Communication minoring in Visual Anthropology and Gallery Management. During the process of my research, I was interested in the innovative factor of art and design and its effect on educational development.

During my work with children with learning disabilities, I got inspired to become more than a designer and problem-solver. I decided that I wanted to help people with creativity. So I earned a Master of Science in Art Psychotherapy leading to a PhD in Arts Education and Arts Psychotherapy and I practice both professions.

Tell us about your career journey.

My career has multiple paths. I started with the corporate world. I began as a communication designer, progressed to a corporate account manager, then creative director.

Then my passions were slowly heading to social responsibility. I started as a TA of the design and art department at Kuwait University at that time. Then I earned a scholarship to complete my Masters and PhD. Now I am a professor of Visual Communications Design at the College of Architecture in the Communication Design and Interior Architecture Department, KU. My passion towards education thrives on a daily basis with my lovely students.

As an Art Psychotherapist, I am now a Senior Psychotherapist in one of the clinics in Kuwait. With the creative process, I help people with mental, behavioral and psycho-social challenges discover their paths of healing and problem-solving. Mental health has many fields and art therapy is one of them. I use art as a method of assessment, communication and expression in the process of therapy.

I am also an innovation and leadership trainer for corporate and governmental entities. My training concentrated on helping employees refine their emotional intelligences and their mental capacity to reach their potential. I recently founded a social entrepreneurship initiative called Wellness Kuwait that targets personal, social and

cultural innovation.

Last but not least, I am the President of Soroptimist Kuwait, a society to empower, enable and educate women. It was founded in the USA in 1921. Soroptimist Kuwait is part of this international affiliation and has been a local official NGO by MOSAL since 2015.

I like to call them room of development because weaknesses can be modified and enhanced. I am still working on my patience! My brain processes things so fast that I sometimes feel that events are slower than I am. So I am working on my patience.

Life is a series of mistakes and trial and error. Every day I learn new things. So yes, mistakes are mandatory and fixing them is the learning process. I have too many and I love them all.

What have been the biggest challenges you’ve faced during your career?

My biggest challenge was leading an NGO. To be a woman who inspires other women is a responsibility. However, I am blessed with the women who march with me towards the greater good. We lean on each other and help each other to fulfill our goals.

How do you stay motivated during challenging times?

My internal motivation comes from love. My external motivation comes from knowledge and education. It inspires me so I also use it to inspire others.

I need to see the horizon to relax. I need to be part of nature to relax. I mainly need earthing.

The proudest moment in my life is when I became president of an NGO that serves women’s causes. I never thought that enabling and helping women would take such a big part of my life. Education and mental wellness were my passions. However, when I started advocating

Every day is a challenge as me and Ghala are handling all the tasks. It's a lot for us to handle but we like to test our limits and get deep into business.

How do you stay motivated during challenging times?

I worked mainly in planning and designing for events as a freelancer. That's how I practice architecture. Also, I started a brand called Rapture, for exclusive handcrafted cases with my partner Ghala Al Hajri and a couple more brands, My Homie and Fortysix4st.

I’m a financial markets trading consultant in Yasmeen Project and VI markets.

Tell us about your education.

I graduated from the college of business administrations in Kuwait University with a Marketing major. I consider myself self taught when it comes to trading and the financial markets.

Tell us about your career journey.

In 2010, I saw a forex trading ad on my laptop for the first time. I loved the idea that I could make money from my computer! So I started the self learning journey; websites, videos, seminars, classes, courses, books and online forums. I ate up every source of learning I could find. I couldn’t stop! I practiced and, where I failed at first, I started working. Then I started logging everything I did, every detail of every trade, and tried to improve my trading from my logged results. Things got much better.

I worked in a government job to make my capital and started trading. I was able to achieve my goal so I quit my job, then worked in VI markets brokerage company to learn more up close from the people who understood the markets and this business the best. I worked with passion from day one, and now I’m a financial markets trading consultant at VI market’s Yasmeen project which is dedicated to empower, educate and guide women in the world of trading and investment. I created my own trading school course from A to Z helping people to learn forex trading the simplest way possible.

How do you manage your time? Describe your average day.

I usually wake up early and get my kids ready for school.

After that, nothing is typical. I love to do different things every day. I might go to the gym or for a walk, or spend the morning shopping. When I need, I go to work at noon. At night I like to chill with my family or see my friends. Every day is very different I don’t really have any set rules to follow. I like to free myself from restrictions and routines.

Life is more fun for me this way.

What is your biggest strength?

I’m very passionate and determined. I believe in myself.

I’m always improving myself in all life aspects and would never stop learning. I know exactly who am I and I never

My kids are my life’s investment. I worked so hard with my amazing husband to raise them to be confident and to be themselves. I’m so proud they grew up to be so smart, loving and talented young gentlemen. My proudest moment is every moment I see them being kind and honorable.

At one point during the final year of high school I didn’t take my final exams seriously and did have to re-do some subjects. This was a wake- up call and has allowed me to get my priorities right.

I did my middle school in a boarding school in the UK (West Hill Park School) and high school at BSK (The British School Of Kuwait). I am a Bachelor of dental surgery from the University of Malta. I have a Masters in orthodontics from Kings College and I am also a member of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.

After holding my Bachelors degree, I practiced dentistry for two years then went abroad again for my masters.

Ever since 2016 I have been practicing Orthodontics at the Kuwait Ministry of Health.

What is the biggest challenge you face during your career?

I find orthodontics a wonderful and challenging profession. It is a true blend of science, art and skill.

Challenges in orthodontics present themselves during treatment, planning a case, which for me is one of the most exciting parts of my job.

I am Jeena Amin, mother of two beautiful children. I am an artist with a passionate personality and love of multiple angles, colours and handicrafts. I love innovation and creativity, whether artistic or intellectual. I am in love with reading and drawing, scrapbooking and travel. I love to immerse in different cultures.

I am an artist but did not study art academically. I studied computer engineering at the American University of Kuwait. I suspended my studies to devote myself to my daughters and to follow my hobby drawing.

As far as I can remember, my early childhood was filled with colours. My love for art began at a very young age. In 2015 I began painting figures of women on canvas. I had showcased many of my projects in recycled arts at the Again Expo in the Avenues Mall and Dar Alfnoon. In 2016 my painting was chosen as a cover for an art magazine and this was the biggest joy for me. During this year I was called by a TV channel for an interview.

Have you made any mistakes that have made you stronger?

I’m human so yes, I make mistakes. Learning from them is what makes me perfect and strong. If you want success you must make mistakes.

The world of art is great but even for someone who is good or the best, it certainly has challenges.

With calmness, patience and control. This applies to my professional and personal life.

To start with, I listen to good music. I also enjoy coffee, painting or reading.

My name is Farah Bishara and I’m a music lover before anything. I freelance as a special events DJ and recently launched Vinyl Destination, Kuwait’s first pop-up record store. My experience varies from working with global brands like Kenzo and Gucci to collaborations with local brands.

Yes - not being assertive enough. I’m definitely past that now! Having a voice took me a long time to develop. I think as I grow I’m constantly learning how to manage business better and delegate duties as needed.

Tell us about your education

Being a woman working an unconventional job is an everyday challenge. A lot of people didn’t take my work seriously and thought it was just a phase or a hobby. The term ‘DJ’ usually paints a picture of someone between careers or even lost. My consistency shows that we’re able to view DJs in Kuwait as a reputable profession and something that’s here to stay!

I studied Marketing at AUK which isn’t my first love, but those skills come in handy when I’m curating events around the city.

Tell us about your career journey.

My career has changed and evolved a lot over the years.

I started in banking, then took the leap of faith to work at a radio station. I hosted a radio show for five years and began DJing during that time. Now I’m a full-time DJ with my own business.

How do you manage your time? Describe your average day.

How do you stay motivated during challenging times?

I remind myself why I started. You have to be able to take the punches in life, and it only makes your character stronger.

I’m self-employed so there are no set working hours. I check e-mails as soon as I’m up, and continue working to schedule events throughout the season. I try to keep myself busy with different projects that test my creativity.

What do you do to relax?

What is your biggest strength?

Launching Vinyl Destination, a special project for music lovers and vinyl collectors. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for so long and seeing it come to life was the best feeling in the world.

Being a people person has helped so much in my career. When you’re genuine towards others, the notion of marketing and strategies almost become void. I think working with kindness and hard work creates longevity and trust with people.

I doubt my abilities from time to time, as I’m always trying to jump in something new. Sometimes that fear starts as a weakness but ends up as a strength if used right.

NOOR AL-OBAID “Starting so young taught me a lot of things.”

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Noor AlObaid, aka @noorthatbakes. I am a human rights activist, a food and beverage consultant and a student. At the age of 14, I founded a non-profit organization called ‘Bake and Educate’ and became the youngest Kuwaiti to start a non-profit organization.

That led me into a whirlpool of different human rights and youth activist groups such as Equait, Spread the Passion, Loyac and other campaigns advocating for the rights of those without voices. Bake and Educate is now recongnized by the UNDP in Kuwait and the Ministry of Youth. I’m currently continuing my path as a Human Rights Activist as well.

Tell us about your education.

My educational background is quite mixed. I spent my life in a private American school (ASK) and graduated only to go and study Architecture in Leeds, UK. Due to some family health problems, I took a year off and this is where I began to doubt my career path in architecture.

When I went back to the UK a year later, I realized that my true passion was not architecture, but politics and communication. Due to the regulations of the Kuwait scholarship program, I transferred back to AUK’s International Relations program with a minor in Mass Communication and I will be graduating in the spring of 2020.

Tell us about your career journey.

My career journey started a lot younger than most. At the age of 14, no-one took me seriously in the field I was working in. However, with time and hard work, people started to see the substance and force that came with the cause I was working on. With the years, and the work I put in, I had covered 482 tuition fees for underprivileged students. It was an amazing feeling when Bake and Educate was recognized by the UNDP for all the work I put in. That’s when people began to take my work seriously.

At the age of 19, I had achieved one of my lifelong goals.

It was then that I grew to supplying desserts to cafes and restaurants and became a food and beverage consultant.

Bake and Educate is still ongoing and working hard on multiple causes including Share the Road, which works towards the integration of Down Syndrome individuals into the Kuwaiti workforce. With all that going on, I’m in the process of finishing my degree in International Relations and Mass Communications and also applying to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

What is your biggest strength?

I think my biggest strength is my passion and my drive. I don’t think I would’ve gotten to where I was if I was not as hard working as I am. It does tend to be an issue because I do get classified as a workaholic, but I enjoy every aspect of what I do.

Do you have any weaknesses?

Of course I have weaknesses, everybody does. I think my biggest weakness is my stubbornness and refusal to accept failure. Because I’m such an ambitious person, it’s very hard for me to fail at something, so I don’t know how to give up. You could call me a bit of a ‘sore loser’ when it comes to my work.

Have you made any mistakes that have made you stronger?

I honestly think starting so young taught me a lot of things. I did make mistakes that I learned from and that made me stronger. Lots of people took advantage of the fact that I was so young and quite naïve at the time, but I learned from that and grew to know the ins and outs of my field.

What have been the biggest challenges you’ve faced during your career?

One of the biggest challenges I faced was my age because people didn’t take me seriously as a young girl who was pushing for so much change that society was not ready for. Especially coming from a mixed background, having a Syrian mother, people tended not to take me seriously because of my outlook on life and the problems we face as a society.

How do you stay motivated during challenging times?

I get more driven. If someone says I can’t do something, I’ll work harder to do it. I tend to revert to two things when I’m struggling, my mother and God. Those are my comfort zones when I’m really struggling.

What do you do to relax?

As cliché as it sounds, I relax when I’m in the kitchen. It’s my getaway from stress and work. I get my friends and family together, cook a nice meal and host. That’s how I unwind.

I organize my classes to be in the morning, starting at 8am, and I finish anywhere from 1pm-5pm.

Then I continue with my day, including meetings and consultations for the work that I do. I organize my days based on my class schedule but it does get a bit mixed up sometimes. I’m never really off the job, weekdays or weekends.

I am Fouzeya Al Sabah, an entrepreneur and graduate student. I’m also known as a bookworm.

Tell us about your education.

I graduated from The American Academy for Girls in 2012 with a GPA of 3.75. I graduated from Kuwait University majoring in Management Information System in 2016 with a GPA of 3.50 and MGPA of 3.70. In 2017, I was accepted in the Masters of Science in Information Technology program in Kuwait University. My first conference paper was published in 2018 titled ‘Mobile Commerce Adoption Factors in Kuwait’.

Tell us about your career journey.

I started my first business in July 2016, a bakery named Tanateesh, which is an Arabic word meaning bits and pieces. It is specialized in Middle Eastern pastries and desserts. In March 2017, I joined a voluntary group called Entrepreneurs. We encourage others to start their own companies and aim to reduce bureaucracy. In 2018, my partner, Fatma AlAnsari, and I launched a new application called Locally. It is the first application that supports local designers and local products in Kuwait.

How do you manage your time? Describe your average day.

I start my day by heading to the office and prioritizing my needs for the day. Then, I manage my time by working based on the schedule I made.

Of course at the end of the day there is always time for my family.

The market in Kuwait is very competitive which makes it hard for young entrepreneurs to start and succeed in the market.

It was a very proud moment and I will never forget the day I was honored by The Amir and The Crown Prince.

“When motivation is not enough to keep you going, discipline is what will push you.”

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

I’m Hind AlKhatrash. I’m an aerialist and fitness enthusiast. I run an aerial studio called leap circus twice a week while balancing my day job at HOT Technologies.

I am passionate about both jobs within the local fitness industry. I enjoy working closely with young girls and women at leap to help them conquer the perceived obstacles of the mind and body and celebrate their limitless potential. At HOT Technologies I work to develop a bilingual, on-demand fitness application that makes fitness affordable and accessible to everyone around the world. I like to think of myself as a person that is not afraid to follow her passion and trusts her abilities enough to go after any available opportunity that presents itself. I would ultimately like to be thought of as someone who has lived her life to the fullest.

Tell us about your education.

I accomplished most of my studies here in Kuwait at the American University of Kuwait. I had majored in Social and Behavioral Sciences with a concentration in Anthropology. This versatile area of study helped me explore different study abroad programs during my years in university. I completed one program in the American University, Washington DC, USA and another in the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, UK. After graduation, I continued my studies online for a certification in Sports and Exercise Psychology from the University of Derby, UK.

Tell us about your career journey.

Upon graduation, I wasn’t very certain as to what career path I wanted to take. I held a degree that was very broad and I was in the early stages of establishing my own aerial arts studio. I had initially intended to run a large studio full time and recruit trainers to assist. After months of paperwork, I had secured the funding for the project, but finding an affordable location with the required specifications proved to be very difficult. After nine months of searching, I needed to pause the project to be able to support myself financially. My first job was at Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah, the institution was a pleasure to work at and offered me valuable career lessons and skills.

I decided to revisit the circus studio idea and start off on a much smaller scale. I continued my practice in aerial arts at home and went on to become a certified trainer. From there I was able to rent a small space and begin offering classes once or twice a week while balancing my day job.

I was later approached by HOT Technologies and found that their company’s vision was very much aligned with my interest and values. Today, I continue to juggle HOT and leap in the hope of making big strides in the local fitness industry.

How do you manage your time? Describe your average day.

I like to go by the quote, “failing to plan is a plan to fail”.

Planning is key to time management. My day begins as early as the night before where I have packaged and prepared my meals for the next day. I wake up at 5:00am to be able to get to the gym and train from 6:00am to 7:00am. I have my breakfast and coffee at the gym and go through a few emails. I get to work by 9:30am and finish around 5:00pm. On days that I teach at leap, I rush to the studio to teach from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. On days where I’m not teaching, I usually like to come home early or go out to dinner with friends.

When people ask if I work a 9- 5 job, I like to tell them that I actually work a 5:00- 9:00 job!

What is your biggest strength?

Discipline. When motivation is not enough to keep you going, discipline is what will push you to go through the grind and get the job done.

Do you have any weaknesses?

I can be very cautious and nervous when it comes to trying something new, but over the years I have learned that there is nothing to lose from going after opportunities only more to gain.

Have you made any mistakes that have made you stronger?

I sometimes regret having paused my circus studio idea nine months after graduating university, but nothing is actually ever a mistake in my opinion. Things work themselves out to be a certain way for a reason and I am stronger and wiser because of it.

What have been the biggest challenges you’ve faced during your career?

Introducing the idea of aerial circus proved very challenging early on, especially when pitching it to venues I wanted to rent out. It was a big investment for someone who had recently graduated like me, to have to purchase equipment, install the rigging, order customized safety mats, etc. Sharing the idea, the photos, the videos also brought on some reactions I hadn’t anticipated - sometimes the attention to what I was doing was redirected to something completely unrelated like people’s personal judgments on what is considered modest for a woman to perform.

How do you stay motivated during challenging times?

It comes down to doing what you do for yourself. It’s never about the money or what people think. As long as I’m out there trying my best and doing what I love to do then there isn’t much more that can be done. I find contentment in that.

What do you do to relax?

Since I’m usually always on the go and rushing between jobs, I enjoy being able to escape the madness every once in a while. You can find me at the park, at the beach, or on a weekend hiking trip in Oman with my phone switched off, completely out of reach.

What has been your proudest moment so far?

I was really honored to be approached by the production team behind The Hamad Show to be able to perform and become the opening act to the 4th season debut at the Sheikh JaberAlAhmed Cultural Center. It was such a pleasure to be able to perform at such a prestigious national landmark. The performance was a last minute arrangement that really put all my skills to the test and I’m very proud to have been able to achieve it in a timely manner.

What is your biggest fear?

Burning out. I’ve always been hugely self-driven. I hope I never lose that spark to keep pushing and keep going. I think that drive will always be there, the destinations and trajectories will naturally change with time.

My name is Zahra, but everyone calls me Zouz. I’m a visual artist, a writer, and a filmmaker. I create cultural productions with a philosophical backdrop, but I value silliness and nonsensical content over everything.

Tell us about your education.

I have a degree in English Literature, so my background is in philosophy and cultural studies.

Tell us about your career journey.

I’ve always been a tinkerer and an artist. The first art activity I participated in was with the Out of Kuwait Residency in 2012, which led to another art show extension in London the following year. My work on Instagram developed a very good following and I slowly became part of several active creative communities in Kuwait and the GCC region. My ‘doodles’ have expanded into different types of graphic narratives, animated clips, short films and music videos.

After getting to know other artists, I’ve come to realize that creative ideas are almost worthless without communities to execute them. Much like any innovative idea from any discipline or field of knowledge, it takes a community.

Another issue that every cultural producer faces is that of representation. I’ve had to accept that I would never produce artwork or a film that does all social groups justice, or represent anything accurately.

The mistake I made was trying to represent certain issues accurately. It made my work better because I learned to produce work that is more porous and accepting of a wide array of interpretation.

What have been the biggest challenges you’ve faced during your career?

Discipline, working with other people and jokes.

As cliché as it may sound, it’s having others pay attention to a certain idea I have without having to advertise it in a particular way. Most of the time it’s not how good or valuable an idea is, it’s how the idea is packaged and sold. I’ve come to acknowledge, accept, and be fairly skilled at advertising ideas that are worth selling and, even more so, worth buying.

ASRAR MOHAMMAD “Time management is a constant struggle.”

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

I’m a corporate girl by day and I moonlight as an avid traveller. By profession, I’m the Senior Corporate Communication Executive at Equate Petrochemical Company. However, with every chance I get you’ll find me headed to a new country or city to explore.

Tell us about your education.

I have a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Organ State University with focus on processes control and data management. I also did a double minor in math and chemistry. Meanwhile, I have an MBA in finance from the American University of the Middle East, where I managed to graduate as Valedictorian in my class, while working full time.

Tell us about your career journey.

Upon completing my undergrad studies, I heard so much how it was difficult to work as female on the oil rig. Therefore, I made it my mission to attain that position in an oil service company in Kuwait. During that time, I spent many weeks away from home working with my bare hands on the oil rig. Following that, I also took an opportunity to work in an engineering company in the UK. There, I was introduced to the concept of waste plant and environment. As my interest on the subject of environment grew, it led me to work in a global engineering organization between Houston and Kuwait, working as a process/environment engineer where I was designing world class refineries and petrochemical complexes. After three years, I wanted to move from design to actual operations, which led me to my current organization where I started off as the environmental expert for Equate Petrochemical Company. Eleven years later, I currently hold the position of Senior Corporate Communication Executive where I’m in charge of the implementation of the corporate communication strategy and the coordinator for the implementation of the sustainability strategy globally.

How do you manage your time?

Honestly, time management is a constant struggle.

However, prioritizing and making to-do lists has helped me out.

I would say communication is one of my major strengths and I see myself as a people person.

Being part of the launch of the Elevate Program at Equate. This program is aimed at empowering women and providing them with equal opportunities to elevate their career.

What is your biggest fear?

The fear of going to bed at night and feeling that there is no added value to my day.

What is your favorite quote?

There’s an idiom that I heard from a friend ten years ago that I always refer to, which is: ‫مو كل سلطة فيها طماط‬ That translates to ‘not every salad has tomatoes’. I like it because it reflects on the reality of how people can think and act in different ways. Understanding the differences in us makes you see the bigger picture and makes you more tolerant towards others.

Working in the petrochemical sector, women are generally considered a minority and glass ceilings are evident. Therefore, we see a low percentage of women in leadership positions. I would like to work towards seeing myself breaking those barriers.

What advice would you give to young women starting out in their career?

They need to believe in themselves that they have the capabilities to achieve anything they want to achieve. Believe in yourself and don’t let gender specific jobs discourage you. The world is your oyster.

How does it feel to be a CP Woman of Substance?

I’m very proud to see recognition of women in various roles and I feel honored for the recognition.

I am Dr. Alaa Abul. I’m 32 years old, a wife and a mother of three children. I’m a senior registrar family physician and a lactation consultant at Alsaqer Clinic.

Tell us about your education.

I graduated from Kuwait University medical school in 2010 and finished my fellowship in family medicine (MRCGP international) in 2016. I then did the IBCLC exam and got certified as an international breastfeeding consultant in 2018.

Tell us about your career journey.

I worked as a trainee in Amiri Hospital for a year then transferred to the primary health care. Being on the family medicine board means I had to move to many clinics. When I finished my fellowship I settled as a senior family physician in Alsaqer Clinic in 2017.

I took an interest towards children’s and women’s health and breastfeeding so I established the breastfeeding clinic as part of the well baby clinic.

I manage my time with my phone and my dairy. I plan out every day, week and month. Being a doctor and a mother of three young children isn’t easy but it can be easily managed if you’re organized. Right now my average day is basically looking after my two-month-old but prior to that I used to take my children to school, go to work, pick my children up, have lunch, then spend time reading with my sixyear-old (bed time is always at 7.30). I hate changing my kids’ schedule since I know the consequence is a cranky child the next day. Now I have a new baby my daily routine keeps changing while I try to keep the routine stable for my other two kids.

Name one item in life you can’t do without?

Graduating from the family medicine board. I still remember the moment I saw the green pass on the webpage. I’m also proud of my account and how mothers who I have never met before come up to me and tell me how much I have helped and supported them through their motherhood and breastfeeding journey.

Death.

My name is Essra Al-Bloushi, I am a marketing/PR Consultant.

My first degree is in Chemical Engineering, my second degree is in Marketing/PR and my third is in Parenting and Health.

I started work in labs at KISR (Kuwait institute of Scientific Research) as a water analyst in Doha Desalination Centre. Then after my second degree I headed towards marketing and PR work along with my side hobbies as a freelancer and fashion designer. Which led me to freelancing in different companies and I became a Marketing/PR Consultant along with my main job as Head of HR of the Passport Centres at MOI Kuwait. After having children, I started taking online/offline courses towards parenting and leading a healthier family lifestyle, which led to the birth of my side business @papayaspace which is very dear to my heart.

My time is always packed. I head to my HR job and work during my breaks on my freelance. After work I usually pick my children up from school and spend time with them. Even when I have meetings after school hours, the kids are usually with me and witness a lot of the work that I do. 6:30-7pm they’re put to bed and I have enough time to attend to my unfinished work. My weekends are packed and balanced between friends, events and work. As you can see, I am a workaholic and I wouldn’t have it any other way. No risk, no Ferrari!

Have you made any mistakes that have made you stronger?

I’ve made some wrong decisions but I learned to be who I am right now.

My entire journey was full of difficulties, especially as the sport is not supported by the government. I had to work very hard to let my country and people know me and had to practice in private stables and the desert, training for long hours. It was very difficult to manage time between my job and my horse riding training. Alhamdulillah, I overcame all of these difficulties and won many regional and international races. I am now an international rider having participated all over the world.

I have faced many challenges like riding for long distances (eg.100km, 120km, 160 km). In addition, most endurance horse riders in Kuwait are men so being a woman in this field is so hard. There is no support from the competent authorities.

How do you stay motivated during challenging times?

By winning the race and representing my country.

What do you do to relax?

Horseback riding.

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

I am someone who loves his job and works hard on my reputation in the hotel and in the country. I am very competitive when it comes to gaining more market share and exposure in Kuwait.

Tell us about your education.

I hold a Hotels and Restaurants Management Diploma from Francel College, Lebanon and a Hospitality Management Diploma from American Hotels and Motels Association.

Why did you decide to work in hospitality?

Actually it was by coincidence. I didn’t plan to be a hotelier. However, when I started, I started as a waiter around 23 years ago. Since then I felt the challenge to grow to where I am now.

Tell us about your journey so far.

As I mentioned, I started as a waiter and then gradually moved up working in different capacities at various restaurants in Beirut and have been working with the InterContinental group since 1997. I worked with the group in Doha, UAE, Bahrain and Jordan at different positions and joined as the General Manager at Holiday Inn Kuwait Downtown in 2014. I have been working as the Area General Manager IHG Kuwait since 2016.

What have you always enjoyed about the hospitality industry?

Actually, the competition. That’s what I look at every day. I watch carefully what the competition is doing, I follow the market trends and the new things in the city. I identify things that we can do and others are not doing or thinking of. If you don’t move faster, others will overtake you. So, if you remain agile and move quickly, then you are ahead of the game.

What attracted you to the hotel the most?

The potential. I felt that this hotel has a lot of potential. Not only about the location but also about the people who work here. Really, since the time I joined, we have had a transformation. Today the entire team, including our owners and the company, is proud of this achievement.

What is unique about your hotel’s location?

We have two different brands in one location with two different guest experiences to offer. We are running a property of 550 rooms which is unique in itself. We have one of the biggest convention facilities in terms of ballrooms and meeting rooms. SPA Aquatonic is another iconic feature and is a unique concept as there are only 11 in the world.

We house the biggest gym in town which is open 24/7 with around 3,100 members.

What were the latest and most important conventions that took place at your hotel in the past year?

2018 was full of mega events at the hotel. The biggest one was the Rebuild Iraq where none of the competitors were able to compete with us. So, we took it on board just 10 days before the event where we had 2500 people in the Baraka Ballroom and the hotel was booked to full capacity. The event went very smoothly and was well managed without anyone realizing such a large scale event was going on. We have also done several launches and important celebrations.

Just to mention, we host around 400 weddings a year between both the properties.

What are the most challenging issues you are facing currently?

We are dealing with people every day and as much as it is a pleasure dealing with people, it is also a challenge. By people I mean our team members and our guests. We are a team of around 900 in the hotel.

It is a challenge but we also enjoy it by turning it out to a happy outcome.

Beside the hotel, what are your favourite places in Kuwait that you would recommend your guests to visit?

The closest to us are the malls. The Avenues and 360 Mall are just

From Paris with Love Abir Achkar

Paris Fashion Week marked the grand finale of a jam-packed month of fashion preceded by New York, London and Milan.

The Fall 2019 runway show marked the end of an era. Paris Fashion Week/Fall 2019 was full of poetry and emotion. Paris was overflowing with tributes to Chanel’s creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, who died on February 19 aged 86.

Karl’s final collection for Chanel took place in an Alpine ski village complete with a snow-filled runway and skis. It was a snow covered set and an emotional tribute to the iconic designer. The set was epic, but there was certainly an anticipation of sadness in the air.

Just before the models hit the runway, Penelope Cruz, the most recent face of Chanel, took a turn in all-white holding a single white rose in the designer's memory.

The Chanel collection was a kind of a memoire to Karl who went back to the classic elegant styles that Lagerfeld had loved. Beautiful plush knits in Fair Isle patterns and stripes were used for sweaters, midi-length skirts and cardigans. Later in the show, the neutral palette gave way to bright fuchsias, deep teals and dark orange shades.

Black and white tweeds were the main focus of the collection along with frilled chiffon and silk blouses which added a layer of lightness to the heavy fabrics. Look du jour was my favourite with puffer jackets and vests and high-waisted leather pants for a casual chic look. The evening wear included feathery skirts with metallic embellishments.

There were also lots of hair accessories which gave us a hint that hair accessories aren’t going anywhere for Fall 2019, this time taking shape as a bow clip anchored by a giant camellia.

A couple of years ago, we had the pleasure of test driving the first generation Porsche Panamera. And this year, we got to relive that excitement all over again.

The second generation Porsche Panamera has always been ready for us to take a Porsche masterpiece out for a spin.

Porsche Centre Kuwait, Behbehani Motors Company spoiled us with three incredible days to make the most of the Panamera. Once we’d finished admiring it from the outside, it was time to jump in and put it to the test.

For this drive, we wanted a bit of everything – everyday roads, long open roads, and a touch of adventure. So we drove through Kuwait City, along coastal roads, and for the final test, we headed to the desert.

Staying connected The Porsche Connect system makes it easier to take the road less travelled. The real time traffic information helps you take the fastest route, making your journey quicker, and taking the stress out of navigation.

Porsche have recognised that nowadays, we don’t go anywhere without our phones, and so they’ve actually included a LTE phone as a standard on all Panamera models.

The phone is stored underneath the armrest, out of sight and out of mind until you need it. The smart Porshe Connect system gives you peace of mind, it monitors your vehicle, and if it detects an emergency it will automatically call for help.

But for the most part, Porsche Connect will be your driving assistant, navigating your journeys, providing great audio, and giving you weather and news updates.

Thanks to the wireless hotspot, you and your passengers can enjoy on board internet too. .

In-car entertainment at its finest At the centre of the dashboard you’ll find a 12-inch touch screen – the control hub for your car’s infotainment system. From here, you can control everything from navigation to music.

The Panamera has plenty of audio options, from Apple CarPlay to digital radio. You can choose your own tunes, or discover new ones with the help of Porsche Connect Plus.

Music is often what makes a drive memorable. Nothing beats road tripping with your favourite playlist beating through a top quality sound system. And the Porsche Panamera sound system is definitely impressive.

But if you want to be fully blown away by the ultimate sound system, you can always choose the added option of the 21-speaker Burmester sound system.

As for the passenger experience, there are several USB charging ports around the cabin, so charging devices like phones and tablets is possible in both the front and back. But the in-car entertainment doesn’t stop there.

A popular add-on for families is the back-seat entertainment package.

You can choose to have screens on the back of the front seats, so rear passengers can watch or game on long journeys. You can also add fold-down tables to the back of the

front seats, giving those in the back an airplane-like experience. .

Pushing boundaries As an avid driving enthusiast, what interested me even more than the luxury of the interior, or the sportiness of the build, was the performance.

During our few days with the Panamera, we really put this Porsche to the test.

The twin-turbo engine had a real kick, and within a few seconds, we were up to flying speeds. The Panamera had the acceleration of an impressive sports car, thank to the 8-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung.

Despite its large size, it feels surprisingly light and nippy to drive, thanks to the aluminium shell. This also means braking is smooth and easy. Whilst it feels light enough to throw around corners, it still has a substantial and secure feel. The car utilises every ounce of power by feeding it to each of the wheels, giving you a sturdy ride and a fabulous growling engine.

The Porsche Active Suspension Management System adjusted the dampening force on each wheel, ensuring a smooth ride regardless of speed or road surface.

When we ventured out of the city, and into the desert, the Panamera coped well with the sand and bumpy surfaces. It’s a car that pushes boundaries, blending the sporty with the practical. It can cope with every-day city driving, or if you want to unleash its full power, it’s best driven on long open roads. But as we discovered in desert, it's also equipped for adventure.

Perfecting your Porsche There are several different Porsche Panamera models to choose from now, and each comes with a range of optional add-on features. You can create your very own extraordinary car.

Our Panamara was a beautiful burgundy red, a metallic colour option.

But depending on what Panamera model you choose, you’ll be able to choose between 12 different colour options. There are standard colours, metallic colours and special colours to choose from. You can also customise the interior by choosing the colour scheme and seat material. The front seats can be either 8-way electric seats (the standard option) or 14-way electric seats with memory.

To add even more luxury to this magnificent Porsche, you can add heated seats, or even heated massage seats. There’s even a heated steering wheel option!

Our Panamera verdict There wasn’t a single member of the team who wasn’t impressed with the Panamera. The design has come on leaps and bounds since we test drove the previous model.

It impresses from afar, but once you’ve sat inside, you’ll want to own one instantly. It’s so much more than just a vehicle. You feel more like a pilot than a driver, with so many control options, and features that make long journeys not just bearable, but desirable.

It’s a vehicle that inspires travel and success. And if you’re looking for a family car, it doesn’t just get you from A to B, it makes that journey an exciting family experience.

Ferrari celebrates its 25 years Anniversary in the United Arab Emirates with the International Cavalcade

The Ferrari F8 Tributo: a celebration of excellence An homage to the most powerful V8 in Ferrari history

Ferrari has revealed the first official photographs of the F8 Tributo, the new midrear engined sports car that represents the highest expression of the company’s classic two-seater berlinetta. The name is an homage to both the model’s uncompromising layout and to the engine that powers it – with a massive 720 cv and a record specific power output of 185 cv/l, it is the most powerful V8 in Prancing Horse history for a non-special series car and sets the benchmark not just for turbos, but for engines across the board. The 3902 cc V8 won “Best Engine” in the International Engine of the Year awards three years running in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and, in addition, in 2018, was awarded the title of the best engine of the last two decades.

As these prestigious awards demonstrate, in the automotive world, Ferrari’s V8 engine is seen as the very epitome of sportiness and driving pleasure. This is particularly the case when it is mid-rear-mounted in a two-seater. Ferrari has been honing the scope of abilities of this architecture, which creates an optimal weight balance, to perfection for over four decades. The result is the F8 Tributo, which is one of the fastest, most thrilling and communicative supercars ever.

The new car replaces the 488 GTB, with improvements across the board, providing even better control on the limit along with greater on-board comfort. The F8 Tributo punches out 50 cv more than the car it replaces, is lighter and benefits from a 10% improvement in aerodynamic efficiency along with the latest version of the Side Slip Angle Control, now in 6.1 guise. So while the F8 Tributo offers the highest levels of performance of any car in the current range, that performance is also very usable.

A 25-year friendship deserves a big celebration. To mark the anniversary of its arrival in the United Arab Emirates in fitting style, Ferrari organised the first International Cavalcade in the region, bringing together nearly 100 cars with clients from over 20 different countries.

The Cavalcade International - now on its third outing - is a unique opportunity to enjoy the pleasure of driving a Ferrari on routes meticulously planned to ensure owners get to enjoy their cars’ performance to the utmost. In other words, a spectacular travelling showcase, starring these exclusive models.

The 1,200 kilometre long itinerary, which was driven over three days, touched some of the most symbolic and beautiful areas of the Emirates. Starting from Dubai, the Ferraris tackled a series of fascinating roads that wound their way through the desert and up the hairpins of Jebel Jais mountain, making their way back for a special display at the foot of Burj Khalifa by Emaar, which was lit in the renowned red for the occasion.

The vehicles also drove along the Gulf coast, heading to Abu Dhabi to visit the Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque. There was plenty of fun and adrenaline too at the Dubai Autodrome, where the drivers got to unleash their cars’ huge potential, and at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the region’s largest theme park which takes its inspiration from the emotions synonymous with the Italian brand.

Tissot Lovely Square, Power 2 Style

The F8 Tributo delivers its 720 cv without the slightest hint of turbo lag and produces an evocative soundtrack. Instantaneous power is matched by exceptional handling thanks to advanced vehicle dynamics solutions. These include a new version of the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer (FDE+) which can be activated in the manettino’s RACE position for the first time, a move designed to make performance on the limit easier to reach and control for an even greater number of drivers. The steering wheel rim is also smaller in diameter to enhance the level of tactility and make the car feel even more agile. In addition, weight reduction measures have cut the car’s dry weight by 40 kg compared to the 488 GTB, further enhancing both responsiveness and driving pleasure without impinging on interior comfort.

State-of-the-art aerodynamic solutions incorporated into the car’s body help ensure that the extraordinarily powerful engine can be fully exploited. As with the 488 Pista, the F8 Tributo’s aero package is directly evolved from the track and it adopts several features from the 488 Pista designed to help manage engine heat, including, for instance, the rearward-angled front radiators and the dynamic engine air intakes positioned either side of the spoiler instead of on the rear flanks.

Designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre, the F8 Tributo is essentially a bridge to a new design language that will continue to emphasise Ferrari’s key characteristics of high performance and extreme aerodynamic efficiency.

The front of the car is characterised by the S-Duct, a solution that made its debut on the 488 Pista, but which has been redesigned to suit the extensive modifications made to this area of the car. The result is that the S-Duct alone contributes an impressive 15% to the overall increase in downforce compared to the 488 GTB. The new, more compact, horizontal LED headlights allowed Ferrari’s aerodynamicists to incorporate new brake cooling intakes in combination with those on the outside of the bumper, the aim being to improve air flow throughout the entire wheelarch and thereby avoid having to increase the size of the braking system to cope with the car’s greater speed.

Porsche Centre Kuwait welcomes the new Macan

Following a comprehensive upgrade, one of Porsche’s most popular models, the Macan, is now available in Kuwait. With performance credentials that underline the model’s position as the true sports car in its segment, the latest generation was showcased to guests at a special event held by Porsche Centre Kuwait, Behbehani Motors Company at the showroom. The brand’s compact SUV has evolved in terms of comfort and driving dynamics, with two engine versions, the Macan and the more powerful Macan S Commenting on the arrival of the new model, Hany Marie, Brand Manager of Porsche Centre Kuwait, said: “The Macan has been one of our most successful series in Kuwait and with the new generation combining even more pronounced Porsche DNA, greater performance and comfort, I am confident that the success story is sure to continue. The Macan comes to the starting line with an enhanced 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 252 hp and delivering a maximum torque of 370 Nm. The Levante Trofeo is equipped with one of the most powerful engines ever fitted in a Maserati road car. This is the 3.8 litre Twin Turbo V8, calibrated to mate perfectly with the Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, providing it with a new crankcase design, specific crankshaft assembly, new oil pump and auxiliary belt and a different wiring layout.
