WHAT’S NEW FOR 2022? Gill Sherry

Traditionally, interior design was something only professionals were entrusted with. People would pay a premium for expert advice when it came to transforming their homes and, in turn, impressing their friends. But, thanks to the power of technology, more and more home owners are trying their hand at the art and science of interior enhancement.

Black Accents

The number of interior design and home renovation accounts has increased considerably on Instagram and with step-by-step tutorials available on YouTube, it’s no wonder savvy home owners are choosing to carry out their own home styling and improvement rather than paying someone else to do it for them.

Textures

Unsurprisingly, the demand for office-related paraphernalia rose dramatically in 2021 with many people choosing to work from home and, therefore, adapting their living space accordingly. Bedrooms were converted into studies, lofts into studios and garages into meeting rooms. As a result, the biggest trends when it came to interior design were versatile spaces, natural lighting and ‘Japandi’ simplicity (a combination of Japanese minimalist style with Scandinavian tones).

So what is predicted for 2022? House Plants

Indoor plants are known to have a calming effect and, as a result, have a positive influence of our wellbeing. From a prickly cactus to a glossy rubber tree, these evergreen air purifiers are a must-have for 2022. Alternatively, you could take the easy option and go for faux! Fake plants are built to last and will never outgrow their living space. Plus, you’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference!

Living Room Bars

These have always been popular in Kuwait but it seems the rest of the world has finally caught on! Whether readymade and free-standing or purpose-built and fitted into an alcove, home bars are ideal when it comes to entertaining. Clever use of mirrors can add to the appeal, reflecting light and adding sparkle to bottles and glasses. Add a quirky ice-bucket for fun!

Used correctly, black accents can really accentuate a room, adding a touch of understated elegance. But choose wisely and don’t go overboard! A black trim on a natural rug or a single black lamp shade in a neutral lounge should be all you need. Add an ebony vase or an onyx plant pot and you’ll create a chic and classy contrast. Attention to detail is key when it comes to interior design and textures are one of the most important details of all. Sherpa, velvet and boucles are the next big thing in fabrics and guaranteed to add a touch of luxury to your home. Add velvet cushions to your couch, a sherpa fringe to your ottoman, or invest in a cozy boucles throw for your favourite chair. A trip to the fabric souq could be imminent!

Vintage

Supply chains are predicted to be problematic in the coming months so certain items may be hard to come by. Buying secondhand may not be everyone’s preference but there’s a lot to be said for recycling and upcycling. Besides, second-hand is such an outdated expression! Vintage items are to be celebrated and finding that one-off, unique piece of furniture can be really satisfying. What will your one-of-a-kind find be?

Natural Materials

If vintage is really not your thing, buy for longevity instead. Timeless pieces that are made to last are the next best thing so opt for natural wood over cheaper alternatives. Natural stone like granite and marble are tipped to be on trend in 2022 along with seagrass, shells and feathers for those all-important finishing touches.

Green

Did you know, green is the new grey? Grey has been an interior design favourite for far too long and has finally been knocked off its perch by its green cousin. Green is associated with nature and, therefore, represents calmness and contentment. Whether you choose olive green for your walls or racing green for your kitchen units, green is the colour for 2022! So, are you ready to transform your home into a more aesthetically pleasing environment? Interior design can be so much fun and seeing the end result is extremely rewarding. With a little planning and research, you can achieve the look that will be the envy of your neighbours! Go on, give it a try! www.cpmagazine.net

VAIL TRAVEL GUIDE

WHERE TO STAY, WHAT TO EAT, AND MORE Latifah Al-Hazza

There’s something about Vail that is unique and distinct from any other winter destination in the United States. Vail, located in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, is known for having one of the longest ski seasons on the continent. With a top elevation of 3500 meters, it’s no surprise that people from all over the world travel to experience the adventure and beauty of Vail. Get the most out of your Vail vacation with our guide. 14

DECEMBER 2021

WHERE TO STAY IN VAIL When selecting a place to stay in Vail, you want to keep in mind a variety of questions, such as; Does the hotel have activities? Does the hotel have an on-site ski rental facility? What restaurants are available at the hotel? Vail is a small village, and you may not be inclined to venture out every moment of the day, so you’ll want to be sure the hotel you choose has everything under one roof. Therefore, we recommend the Grand Hyatt Vail.

Grand Hyatt Vail

Nestled at the base of Vail Mountain and along picturesque Gore Creek, Grand Hyatt Vail’s ski-in/ski-out resort with Vail’s only resort-side chair lift makes it an ideal place for skiers and snowboarders. Chair 20 at Grand Hyatt Vail is located on-site, just steps away from the resort’s ski rental, valet, and concierge services. In the lobby of this welcoming resort, guests can help themselves to hot cocoa and fresh-baked cookies. Beyond the resort’s convenient skiing and snowboarding facilities, it offers an array of amenities and activities for skiers and non-skiers alike. The resort is home to its own Cascade Village Square, which features an ice rink, a food truck, and outdoor fire pits for daily s’mores roasting. Guest also have access to the heated creekside infinity-edge pool and two outdoor hot tubs. The resort features a spa, restaurant (in addition to a pop-up restaurant), lounge, and a café. Grand Hyatt Vail completed a multi-million-dollar renovation in 2018, recreating the space to showcase incredible artwork and design. Featuring wood, stone, and leather textures, the design is influenced by the surrounding mountains and history. The local artisan artwork around the hotel pays homage to the Southern Ute Native American tribe. •Nearest airport: Eagle County Airport •Time: 37 minutes via car •Distance: 54.5 kilometers

Activities at Grand Hyatt Vail Yurt: This chic and cozy winter haven is available to rent and includes

two private fire pits, a s’mores kit, and a house-made charcuterie spread. The yurt can accommodate up to ten guests. Topgolf Swing Suites: Guests are treated to comfort food and beverages while enjoying virtual golf or other interactive games such as soccer, zombie dodgeball, and hockey. Each Topgolf Swing Suite accommodates parties up to twelve people, with inviting lounge seating. Wellness Studio: This wellness studio offers fitness classes such as sunrise yoga, restorative yoga (ideal for pre-and-post skiing), and barre classes. Guests also have access to compression boots from Theragun, providing decompression of weary limbs after a long day on the mountain. Axe Throwing: Test your hand and arm strength, and coordination, by throwing an axe at a wooden plank target. Yoshimi Pop-Up Restaurant: New this December, guests can enjoy an exclusive sushi pop-up. Highlights include signature Maki rolls and specialty handmade Nigiri. www.cpmagazine.net

GETTING TO AND AROUND VAIL Arriving at Vail usually requires a flight and a bit of driving. Vail is also a stop on some Amtrak routes. We’ve listed the best options for getting to and around Vail.

• Eagle Regional Airport (EGE): Eagle Regional Airport is located 48 kilometers west of Vail and is around a 40-minute drive. Shuttles are available at the airport to transport you to your hotel. • Denver International Airport (DIA): Denver International Airport is located 193 kilometers east of Vail and is around a two-hour drive. If flying into DIA, we recommend taking a bus (approximately 2.5 hours) or renting a vehicle. If you find yourself in Vail without a vehicle, the best way to get around the village is via the village shuttle service – a reliable, timely, and free option.

WHERE TO EAT IN VAIL Fireside Lounge (American) Located within the Grand Hyatt Vail, the lounge offers inventive everyday food with live entertainment from local musicians. Their Bavarian pretzel bites and burrata and corn salad are not to be missed! La Tour Restaurant (French) Showcasing classic French entrees from black truffle-miso marinated Alaskan halibut to seared duck breast. And for dessert, Crème Brûlée Flambé. Matsuhisa (Japanese) From the same chef as world-renowned Nobu restaurants, Chef Nobu’s specialties at Matsuhisa include yellowtail tataki and sea bass with black truffle. Leonora (Tapas)

Inspired by the French Alps, Spanish Pyrenees, and the Rockies, Leonora boasts enticing tapas and creative entrees. Flavorful dishes such as bone marrow and elk are prepared with locally sourced, alpine ingredients.

La Nonna Vail Ristorante (Italian) La Nonna is Italian for grandmother and the name reflects the restaurant’s passion for food and making memories with family and friends. Menu highlights include homemade potato dumplings with meat ragú and homemade mushroom ravioli with white truffle oil.

FormerlyMe.com presents “On The Go: Bahamas Cruise”

WHAT IS FORMERLYME?

Jim West

FormerlyMe is an online movement to motivate and inspire people to become the best version of themselves by showing them my journey and experience in trying a new workout and lifestyle regime every 30 days. Every post, update, and video is ‘formerly me’ as I endeavor to become the best version of myself and become FormerlyMe. Each month CP Magazine will showcase a part of my journey to becoming the best version of myself. I hope that in turn this inspires and motivates you to start your own journey as well. For this month’s story we will focus on the “On The Go: Bahamas Cruise” days of my journey. 20

DECEMBER 2021

It had been a long time since cruise ship were allowed to set sail again due to the pandemic, and now with regulations opening up for them to operate again I decided it was time to stretch my sea legs. In previous years of cruises I always ate the buffets and watched all the shows. Yet never before did I ever step into their gym. This cruise would be different and I was now a different person. Being on the go doesn't mean you neglect your health. You have to choose your health everyday. What I found is with so many activities I was able to get my workouts in and still enjoy shows and eat the buffets with choosing the healthier options.

I had a wonderful time in some of the world's bluest and clear waters. Traveling during the fall season is best as the temperatures are in the 80's. The gym on the ship had everything you need to get in a good workout. Treadmills, elliptical machines, bikes, free weights, and machines to workout every muscle group. Whether you are traveling for pleasure or work, there is always a way to take your fitness with you on the go.

Follow my journey online at FormerlyMe.com and on the YouTube channel. Next month I will cover my more unique experiences I had in 2021. Until next time that has been FormerlyMe! facebook.com/FormerlyMe twitter.com/MeFormerly instagram.com/formerlymeofficial www.cpmagazine.net

Please introduce yourself to our readers. Ciao a tutti! It is indeed a privilege to introduce myself to your readers. I am an Italian national, married to an amazing wife and proud father of one daughter and one son. My Family is my treasure. I enjoyed cooking, practicing sports, and listening to music.

Tell us about your education. I have studied hotel management in different campuses within Italy, UK, and USA.

Why motivated did you decide to work in hospitality industry? As a child, I was very curious which is something that remains to these days. My love towards different cultures and meeting new people from all around the world are the main reasons why I developed a passion for hospitality in the first place.

Tell us about your journey so far? My career started by covering line level positions in the F&B division in different hotels. 24

DECEMBER 2021

I then covered managerial roles in various department to finally become a General Manger. I have been very lucky to meet individuals who believed in me, empowered me to allow me to be the best I can be. I have an extensive and matured international luxury hotel experience with close to 40 years in the industry across Europe, Asia, the UK, and the Middle East.

What do think it takes to succeed in this industry?

Hospitality is a people-focused industry, whether they are our guests, our colleagues, our partners, or our owners. Therefore, you have to be very people’ focused. You have to be authentic and real to gain trust and inspire success. You also need to be very creative to push your product and services to the best level.

What do you enjoy the most about the hospitality industry?

The world of hospitality is vibrant, lively, and always interesting. It’s very dynamic and ever changing as it challenges you to be visionary and to work on your development. It remains one of the few

industries where an individual can start as a line level employee to become CEO of a large company.

What is your biggest achievement so far? My biggest achievement so far was the way I led the team during COVID-19 crisis. As a leader, I have a team which follows and trusts me. Since people look to me for leadership, I must act as a role model, regardless of whether I am in a crisis or not. Especially in times of crisis and when hotels must furlough or let go of staff, my main concern was to manage staff effectively and compassionately. After all, sending great team members into unemployment is the last thing any leader wants to do. My team and I have always found different ways to manage and maintain business profitable during the crisis without having to fire any of our colleagues.

What attracts you to Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa the most? The stunning sandy beach, the magnificent outdoor areas, and landscapes, with many award-winning restaurants to dine in, I consider Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa one of the most beautiful properties I have managed so far.

What are the most challenging issues you are facing currently? The biggest challenge we were facing like other businesses, is the ability to recruit new talents where visas were on hold for almost 18 months. We are now fully engaged in strengthening, and rebuilding our team to have the best service and to deliver even more memorable experiences to our guests in 2022.

If you had to describe the Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa experience in a sentence. Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa is an Idyllic resort where pure luxury hospitality is delivered with generosity, flair, and glamour where you will be pampered and delighted.

At work, what puts smile on your face? Basically, seeing the smiles on our guest's faces, knowing that we have exceeded their expectations. Additionally, seeing my colleagues growing and achieving their career ambitions is something that makes me very happy.

What has been the effect of COVID-19 on business? The COVID- 19 virus pandemic has affected the entire world economy, especially the industries where the service is the dominant segment. According to the latest business reviews, the hotel industry sector has

We look forward to welcoming our international guests from around the world and continue to care for our local guests and to make Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa Kuwait's most favourite destination. lost 2 trillions during COVID pandemic. Therefore, we suffered an “economic blow” by the fact that all hotels in Kuwait were closed for a long period last year. At Jumeirah, we were very keen to implement the safety precautions and approached the crisis not from a defence position but on an attack position brining improvements to all our services and facilities, this allows us to whether the storm better than other hotels in the country. I want to take a moment to thank the Kuwaiti community for the support and patronage they afforded us making Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa the preferred address for staycation in Kuwait.

Every crisis has its leanings for the industry. What are yours?

The most important lesson we have learnt out of this crisis is to remain focused on your unique competitive advantage and how to exceed our guests’ expectations. By continuing to improve what you are offering, you can better compete and surpass your competitors.

What are most of the trends you see impacting the hospitality industry? The usage of smartphones applications is reshaping the hotel industry, as these applications are becoming central to hotel guests’ experiences. Prospective hotel guests want to make use of their own gadget for room reservation, check-in, and check-out, ordering for room service and keyless entry. To respond to these guests’ demand, technological innovation is the key to enable hotel operators to stand out from the competition.

www.cpmagazine.net

25

Learning about guests via digital interactions will also be a key to create bespoke service. No touch is not necessarily no service.

What are your favourite places in Kuwait that you would recommend your guests to visit?

I would suggest visiting Cornish to capture the best views of Kuwait skyline and the sea . Also, Souk Al Mubarakya, as one of the oldest Souqs in Kuwait as well as Shuwaikh Industrial Area where a lot of independent shops are there selling the best crafts and fashionable items.

If you have only one weekend in Kuwait as first- time visitor, in this limited time, what are the best things you suggest doing around the hotel? I would suggest visiting Talise Spa, the most prestigious Spa in Kuwait, featuring female and male sections with 19 treatment rooms and a lot of relaxing facilities designed to create the perfect environment for a tranquil wellness experience. The hotel also offers guests an inimitable range of leisure activities. Whether for adults, teens or children, the hotel takes care of each guest’s desire to experience the gifts of sun, sand, and sea to the fullest. Our countless facilities include Tennis Court, outdoor pools, water sports activities as well as a wonderful sandy private beach and much more. For foodies, we are offering an array of dining options including but not limited to our award-winning Pepper Steakhouse and Olio Trattoria Italiana. For guests to enjoy light shopping or attend to some personal grooming requirements, the hotel has many shops that offering exquisite jewellery, top brand perfumes and other attractive souvenir items as well as the finest hair grooming service for men.

Where else do you see the luxury hospitality sector venturing into the near future?

Today’s luxury explores crave places with a personality that embraces their surroundings or tell a story. As guests’ taste in design and art becomes more sophisticated, they seek out enclaves fashioned by celebrated designers or those with unique elements that truly push the needle when it comes to fusing comfort, space, and sense of place with a big dose of character. Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts is known for their cutting-edge architecture and bold aesthetics, our properties around the world continue to be at the forefront of luxury hotel design. We are one of the luxury brands which is committed to really picking the right destinations. The new builds, 26

I consider Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa one of the most beautiful properties I have managed so far. strategic conversions, and adaptive reuses of historic buildings have helped fuel the brand’s growth. With each new property, Jumeirah’s goal is to always operate in the destinations where our guests want to be, in the very best locations.

What are the most looking forward as travel continuous to return? We look forward to welcoming our international guests from around the world and continue to care for our local guests and to make Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel & Spa Kuwait's most favourite destination.

Personally, what have been your learning from this crisis?

To be prepared and expect the unexpected and not to allow yourself to be worried by anything outside of your control. Appreciate what you have, recognize, and celebrate even the smallest gain or win, only worry about what you can influence, learn from your mistakes as much as you do from your wins, give your team a voice and be prepared to walk the walk.

What advice would you offer to those who aspire to become a GM in the hotel industry someday? The key to succeeding in this industry is being patient and learning from the negatives as much as you do from the positives. Listen to your team members, remain humble and lead by example. Be passionate and enjoy what you do.

Your message for us at CP magazine.

I would like to thank you for such amazing interview and for giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts with your readers. I am a new reader of your magazine but honestly, I am very happy with the quality and variety of content presented. Keep up the good work and I wish you and your team best of luck in your future endeavours.

San Sebastian, also called Donostia in Basque, is the graceful, sophisticated centre of the Basque Country, bringing a touch of glamour to Spain's northern coast. The elegant architecture of the city is simply beautiful, and its airy plazas make the perfect place to stop and watch the world go by with a delicious pintxo -the Basque version of tapas- in hand. And Arbaso is the perfect place to stay in, just in the heart of the city, next to Buen Pastor Cathedral. The impressive building from the XIX follows a neoclassic style influenced by eclectic shapes and a beautiful sandstone façade. FIARK ARQUITECTOS, led Iñigo Garate, were the responsables of the design of this new hotel sensation in San Sebastian, meeting point for the donostiarras. The reception, right at the main entrance of the building, resembles the essence of a living room; a large walnut wooden table where guests are welcomed and the sofás near the fireplace convey the warmth of a home. The boutique hotel is divided in 5 floors with a total of 50 rooms. Simplicity in decoration, natural products, cutting-edge technology, high-end design and services for a 'premium' client. Every room is styled with space-maximising minimalism, and has at least one window that floods the room with natural light.

30

DECEMBER 2021

Dark colours dominate the corridors and reception, in contrast to the oak wood floors. The rooms play with these tones and with green (for the brightest) and white for those with less natural light. The 3.30 meters hight of the ceilings helps to generate a feeling of spaciousness. As for decoration, the Arbaso concept revolves around fine materials, the wood being one of the main characters, together with the rock, the iron, and an environment of colours like white and greet, that symbolize the forest, the rural brought to the very heart of San Sebastián. A minimal simplicity dominates a decoration with noble materials: leather headboards, linen curtains, French walnut tables by Mosel / Arkaia, chairs by Carl Hansen, Seinberg taps and Duravit toilets, wall lights designed by Norman Foster from the firm Flos, lamps by Santa & Cole, Dyson hair dryers… key details for a premium experience. In fact, Arbaso aims above all to open the Basque culture among the world, to work as much as possible with local suppliers, encouraging the cultural, social and economical richness in the Basque Country. And luxury is all about experiences. The property, in collaboration with Basque Destination, has developed 23 experiences available for guests. Some of the experiences include bonito fishing or surf masterclass with the Surfing World Champion. Of course, not forgetting a walk through the old part of the city and eatin some pintxos.

BUT THE BEST IS YET TO COME If Arbaso is a perfect getaway for the most epicurean traveler. You still don’t know the jewel in the Crown. BA-SA-LO-RE. Remember this: BASALORE. Basalore is a “baserri”, a estate house in Basque language, of more than 27 hectares. And it is also the Royal Suite of Arbaso. Yes. Believe me. This is probably the largest Royal Suite in the world. 27.000 metres of nature, wildlife, design, luxury and privacy. The estate is perfect for those looking for privacy in a pleasant environment. Hidden among the trees in the Jaizkibel hill, overlooking Bahía de Txingudito Biarritz with the Bidasoa River at its feet, Basalore is 20 minutes far from Arbaso, and just 5 minutes drive from San Sebastián Airport. It is the perfect location for an unforgettable holiday. Is this the epitomy of luxuy? Absolutly. Because luxury is not only fine materials, a team of butlers willing to satisfy any extravagant request or all that bling bling that some like so much. The true luxury is privacy, the pleasant sensation of waking up without haste, in a magical environment surrounded by nature where the bells of the wagyus that are around are heard. The luxury is being able to enjoy a simple and appetizing breakfast before going for a walk through those 27 hectares that await you. Describing Basalore is one of the most difficult tasks this travel writer has ever experienced. Because you have to feel it, you have to live it. It is one of those very few places that is difficult to explain. Arriving at Basalore is to enter a paradise in the mountains that you do not want to leave. Its 5 rooms are fully equipped, and the master room has two balconies from which neighboring France can be seen. Perfect to disconnect but also to enjoy a nice wagyu barbecue. In the lush green pastures of this Royal Suite, numerous wagyu pups are raised, which can also be tasted at the neighboring Asador Trinquete Borda where the incredible Iñaki will show you the stables, the Basque fronton and fill you with his overflowing energy. Guests will be able to enjoy genuine market cuisine with the best flavours of the acclaimed Narru Restaurant and its prestigious chef Iñigo Peña. 32

TYLER ELLIS We love a stylish collaboration and the latest joint venture to come across our radar is between luxury handbag designer Tyler Ellis and Emirati couturier, Hamda Al Fahim.

Tyler Ellis, the daughter of revered fashion designer Perry Ellis, began her eponymous handbag line in 2011, quickly becoming the most carried designer on Hollywood’s red carpets. Brought to life in a father/son owned and operated atelier in Le Sieci, Italy, Tyler Ellis represents an ardent commitment to couture and quality craftsmanship – a return to true luxury. Tyler’s designs look equally at home on the red carpet as well as in everyday life and are carried by influential women worldwide. As a personal homage to Tyler’s father, Perry Ellis’ handwriting appears as the company logo; and most dear to Tyler, he is a part of everything she creates. She has teamed up with the UAE couturier Hamda Al Fahim to create a limited-edition capsule collection. Hamda’s journey into the world of fashion started at a very young age. She graduated from the College of Art and Science and embarked on her career as an interior designer. But her heart was marching to its own beat. Her sartorial talent expressed itself in her childhood, sketching innovative dress designs and bringing them to life herself at the young age of 12. Over the years, Hamda has evolved into a fashion designer specializing in glamorous evening wear and bridal couture. Their limited-edition ‘Love and Romance’ bespoke clutch capsule collection offers a selection of Tyler’s timeless silhouettes adorned with Hamda’s intricately embellished textiles. The fabrics used for each piece are entirely embroidered by hand at Hamda’s atelier in Abu Dhabi and then sent directly to Tyler’s factory in Italy, where the bags are handcrafted to perfection by highly skilled indigenous artisans. Versatile for all seasons and occasions, the capsule collection features handmade pieces highlighting Tyler’s most popular silhouettes including the signature Lee Pouchet, Perry and Lily Clutches and Meme Pouch, each designed in a variety of rich fabrics and embroidery accents. The Perry in Silver Diamond features a lustrous platinum satin encrusted with radiant crystals, while the Perry in Bee Mine showcases a glistening black satin back, woven with delicate beaded Bumble Bees, adding an extra flutter to any ensemble. The Lily Clutch in Yours Truly personifies Tyler’s lighthearted spirit with a luxurious pink satin decorated with feminine floral embellishments. The collection also highlights Tyler’s much-loved Lee Pouchet in Everlasting Fantasy, a sleek black satin classic embroidered with a kaleidoscope of sparkling sequins. And finally, The Meme in Black Diamond showcases whimsical ebony feathers – the flawless finishing touch to the pouches shimmering crystal frame, perfect for an elegant evening out on the town. 36

Talent Radar Words: José Berrocoso

“We are thrilled to celebrate the collaboration of two women from different cultures joining forces to create unique works of art. We are entrepreneurial designers of the same age, brought up on the opposite sides of the world, Hamda in Abu Dhabi and me in Los Angeles, who built independent, female-owned brands, focusing on craftsmanship, true luxury, and timeless designs” www.cpmagazine.net

37

CityPages Magazine: How did the collaboration come about? Tyler Ellis: I was traveling in the Middle East for work and was introduced to Hamda’s beautiful gowns. I was immediately drawn to her intricate details and striking silhouettes. I discovered we were the same age and are both independent entrepreneurs designing amazing luxury gowns and handbags. We were connected through mutual acquaintances and hit it off instantly. CPM: What was the process like creating the collection? TE: We designed the entire capsule over Zoom, phone calls and emails. We chose four of my clutches that we felt would best highlight Hamda’s embroideries and went back and forth honing in on the perfect layouts for each of the embellishments on the different silhouettes. Samples were shipped to back and forth for final tweaks before going into production. We are currently in the exciting stage of photographing the clutches with Hamda’s collection that they were inspired by. I can’t wait to see the final images! CPM: Where did you get the inspiration behind the collaboration? TE: The collaboration was inspired by our desire to create a limited-edition capsule of genuine couture clutches. We chose embroideries from Hamda’s ‘Love and Romance’ collection and paired them with a selection of my signature clutches. The fabric used for the designs are hand embroidered at Hamda’s atelier in Abu Dhabi and then sent to my factory in Le Seici, Italy where each piece is handcrafted by highly skilled local artisans. CPM: How do you decide on each season's designs and collections? TE: My collections are all named after places that inspire me, so travel plays a large role when creating new designs. I have not been able to travel because of Covid, so my latest collection, ‘Casino de Monte-Carole’ was inspired by memories I have and hopes of traveling again soon. Pay attention to Mother Nature and the world around you – inspiration is everywhere! CPM: What's your all-time favourite Middle East memory? TE: My Husband and I came to Dubai for the New Year holiday and stayed at One & Only The Palm – which was spectacular! On New Years Eve the hotel threw an incredibly elegant dinner party with deliciously decadent food and live music and entertainment that made you want to get up and dance the night away. We then moved down to the waterfront to Lounge 101, with endless views of Dubai’s skyline to ring in the New Year. At home, I’m used to a couple minutes of illuminating fireworks to commence the year, but I was in for a something I had never experienced before! As the clock struck midnight fireworks went off in every direction I turned. 360-degree views of colorful glitter filled the night’s sky, which continued for what seemed to be 15 minutes of magic! Watched the memorizing show – a wonderful memory that will stay with my husband and me forever. CPM: What is in the future for Tyler Ellis and do you have any exciting new launches in the pipeline? TE: I recently partnered with California based artist, Matthew Rogers, to create a limited-edition capsule of one-of-a-kind bags. He hand painted his iconic, colorful ‘Palm Trees’ on five of my LJ Handbag silhouettes, which we are debuting at Surface Magazine’s pop-up in Miami for Art Basel. They are super chic, unique works of art that will bring a smile to your face! I’m also working with Hamda on another exciting capsule – think wedding bells…please stay tuned! 38

DECEMBER 2021

Please introduce yourself.

I am a fashion designer, creative director and founder of Melwani Couture Fashion House. Originally from Moldova, I moved to Dubai in 2008, have been married for eight years and have two beautiful girls, who are my number one priority. I’ve always had a creative nature, so I established Melwani Couture in 2015, positioning ourselves as creators of couture. Since I married into the Indian culture, I am always inspired by the creativity and beauty of Indian textiles and embroideries.

Tell us about your education.

I completed my Business Administration degree at Middlesex University Dubai, with First– Class Honours. Simultaneously, I took courses in Fashion Design at Esmod University and internationally at the London College of Fashion. At Middlesex University, Dubai, I am one of the Alumni students; hence I was recently asked to be a participating member of their Fashion Design Advisory Board. It is a tremendous honour for me. I think it is important always to educate ourselves. I continuously take business and self-growth courses to help me with my growth.

What sparked your interest in fashion?

My love for creativity comes from a young age. I always remember drawing and making dresses for my toys. My mom is a very creative person. During her free time, she was teaching students at our school painting and how to make ikebanas for which she received international awards. Later, she took me to Arts School in Cahul, Moldova, where I went religiously every day after school for four years. During this time, I received many national and international painting awards. I always knew I wanted to become a fashion designer and own my own business. For me, fashion is a very powerful phenomenon. The clothes that a person wears can empower and make them more confident and attractive. I find it amazing how wearing the right outfit can ultimately even change people’s perceptions about you. I was always fascinated by beautiful dresses, and now I am able to create these dresses that people love and are so happy wearing is genuinely the most satisfying job to have. To empower the wearer and focus on accentuating the beauty of the feminine form is what keeps my interest in fashion so alive.

Are you self-taught, or did you study fashion design?

Although I completed short-courses in fashion design, most of what I truly learned is through the people I employed. I invest in my people as I believe the final product and the success of the company are fully dependent on the team. I employed people that study fashion and that worked for prominent ateliers in Europe and Moscow. I ask my team what the work process in their company was, what is the design process; how do they approach each step. I always design each piece myself, but also work closely with my embroidery team, consider their input and how the embroidery should look. As a creative, it’s ok to be self-taught as it always comes from within.

When was your brand established, and how has your work evolved since? I opened my brand in Dubai in November 2015, beginning with a very simple pret-a-porter collection. Although my interest was always couture, I took a year to understand the business truly, created a supplier list, and learnt everything there is to know about creating a couture collection. It’s very important to start small, and enjoy the journey and the learning process.

What influences the design details in your collection? What’s the inspiration behind each of those designs?

I draw my inspiration from various sources. For the “A Million Dreams” collection, The Royal Russian House (end of the 19th century, beginning of the 20th century) served as an extraordinary source of inspiration. The exquisite fashion of that time, as well as the fine jewellery and crowns, inspired the gowns and the style of the hand embroidery. Also, the Phoenix bird, often cited in Russian folklore stories, is predominant in some of the gown embroideries, gently blending with the baroque-inspired themes. www.cpmagazine.net

49

I always get inspired by the fabrics I use. In this collection, we utilized extraordinary meshes such as Italian and French laces, crepes, Italian silks and silk chiffons.

What’s the creative process of creating a new collection?

A lot of time is spent perfecting a collection and ensuring that each garment is created with care and flawless construction techniques. Although it is always advisable to first identify the trends for the next season, in my case, I prefer to make our own trends. That’s why I love my job so much; it allows us to be more creative. We begin with a mood board. Mood boards usually create a visual of the direction we want to take in our collection, and it gives us an idea of the textiles and textures we need to utilize in the collection. Based on our mood board, we then create our sketches. Then we select and approve the sketches that go into the finalized collection. Even though the model of the dress can still change in the process, as each fabric falls differently when draped on the mannequins, we may decide along the way that a certain garment style doesn’t necessarily suit the fabric we intend to use. It can be a long process as we may decide to remove certain dresses from the collection.

How is your work received internationally?

In general, I think fashion that is inspired from the Middle Eastern and Eastern cultures are becoming more popular among Western and Russian communities. While catering to the Middle Eastern market, many of my European and Russian clients appreciate this style. We have a growing clientele worldwide buying our pieces. Therefore, I am thrilled that, although we target and cater to the Middle Eastern market, we have such a wide range of clients for our designs.

How would you define fashion?

I will answer this by quoting Ralph Lauren: “Fashion is about something that comes from within you.” I think fashion is an expression of oneself. You use fashion to express emotions, feelings, a lifestyle. It represents life, making us feel empowered and confident. It has the power to change perceptions, making people more interesting, alive and present. Fashion can be so many things: art, functionality, expression. It is also very personal, real and raw. It can make you powerful, beautiful and in control.

How would you describe your style?

I strive to wear timeless pieces. During the day, I opt for high-waisted jeans or classic trousers with a classic long-sleeved silk shirt. For evening, I opt for uncluttered and sophisticated styles, usually centred around classic and elegant pieces. Classic elegance is key to any wardrobe. Furthermore, I like modest fashion. Long sleeves, high necks and calf-length skirts are predominant in my wardrobe.

Where do you get the inspiration for your designs?

From various cultures, but mostly from Indian and Middle Eastern cultures.

Your plans for the future?

My dream is to open my store in London and expand the brand to the European and Asian markets. We are also looking to start a pret-a-porter line shortly. How did the pandemic affect your business? The pandemic has been very difficult for all of us, more so at the beginning. However, It gave us time to reflect, and work on a new collection. We were able to use the time to develop new styles and a ready to wear line. From November 2020 onwards, our atelier got very busy, as I found that many of my existing clients refrained from traveling, and there was an influx of new people from Europe and Russia to the UAE. Our customers increased significantly and it actually contributed to more business compared to previous years. I always like to say that we are very blessed to live in this country.

What new skill did you learn during the lockdown?

During the lockdown I took the time to do online courses such as Business 50

DECEMBER 2021

www.cpmagazine.net

51

Freedom Blueprint and Becoming Focused. I also took the time to read more and exercise. I learned to be more present with my children and my family. In many ways the lockdown was a blessing for me, as I took this time to reflect on many things in my life, and make the necessary changes.

Three things that make you happy? My family, work, and religion.

Do you have any advice on staying happy and healthy?

I always have a routine during the week. I start my day by dropping my children to school. In the car, we still practice gratitude. I like to remind my girls how blessed we are to have each other, be healthy and have so many blessings in life. I think by doing this, we keep a happy and optimistic attitude. I also start our day on a positive note. For my health, I ensure I sleep eight hours a day and exercise at least three times a week. On a personal note, I don’t eat meat.

Tell us about your participation in the NY fashion show?

During the New York Fashion Show we presented our couture collection in collaboration with Flying Solo. The fashion show took place on Soho Rooftop against the dazzling backdrop of Manhattan Skyline. It was a beautiful fashion Show and I was so happy that many of my friends living in New York could attend.

How did you feel not being able to attend the show yourself?

The decision no to attend was made few days before the show. My daughters started a new school, and both me and my husband felt it is important to be there for them. However I had a friend in New York that I could trust that took over for me and helped me with everything behind the scenes. I was however able to see everything live as it happened. I feel one has to prioritize family, especially children over work, therefore I feel I have made the right decision to stay and be with them.

What is the best advice that you got and from who? The book “The Surrender Experiment” by M. Singer was suggested to me. It is such a wonderful book, and it resonated with many things in my life. I feel we should trust God in every situation, rather than resisting change. I have learned not to worry or panic as much if things might not go as plan. Especially in my business where we have so many deadlines to fulfill and work with different clients. There will always be a solution, or something better will always come. Therefore, learning to surrender and trust that everything happens for a greater good, is something I learned recently.

Your favourite quote?

I love this Bible Verse from 2 Timothy 1:7 For God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness; but of power and love and discipline. In life many of us tend not to live our dreams, because we might feel scared, insecure or have self doubt, therefore I remember this verse every time I want to accomplish something. I feel if we put our trust in God, and do what we love, do the necessary work on our dreams with discipline and commitment, God will always deliver.

What advice would you give to young fashion designers?

In this competitive market, being a fashion designer and owning your brand is not easy. It is essential to learn more about the business side of fashion. Before starting your brand, be prepared and clear about your strategy, brand vision and business plan. Passion and patience are critical in this industry. My advice for budding fashion designers is to take one year for planning, research the market, get the right suppliers, and research various distribution channels. Furthermore, work for an established company to get an idea of how the business works. And staying true to yourself in your creations is essential as doing what truly makes you happy will keep you motivated.

Your motto in life?

Winston Churchill said: “Never give up on something that you can’t go a day without thinking about.” 52

Why Privacy Matters by Neil Richards

The Women I Love: A Novel

by Francesco Pacifico, Elizabeth Harris

The Sleep Fix: Practical, Proven, and Surprising Solutions for Insomnia, Snoring, Shift Work, and More by Diane Macedo

Everywhere we look, companies and governments are spying on us--seeking information about us and everyone we know. Ad networks monitor our web-surfing to send us more relevant ads. The NSA screens our communications for signs of radicalism. Schools track students' emails to stop school shootings. Cameras guard every street corner and traffic light, and drones fly in our skies. Databases of human information are assembled for purposes of training artificial intelligence programs designed to predict everything from traffic patterns to the location of undocumented migrants. We're even tracking ourselves, using personal electronics like Apple watches, Fitbits, and other gadgets that have made the quantified self a realistic possibility. As Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg once put it, the Age of Privacy is over. But Zuckerberg and others who say privacy is dead are wrong. In Why Privacy Matters, Neil Richards explains that privacy isn't dead, but rather up for grabs.

Marcello, an editor and poet, is on the brink of his forties. Like everyone in his life, including his sister-in-law, he's writing a novel. This novel. This novel will be about women. Love. Growing older. Maybe even taking responsibility. But unfortunately for Marcello, the women in his life resist definition. They flit and flicker constantly between archetype and actuality: sirens and saviors, subordinates and savants, vixens and villains. So Marcello cannot write plainly about love. Instead, he tries to write into the complexities of his many relationships: Eleonora, the junior editor, his former protege and sometime lover; Barbara, his claustrophobic girlfriend; his estranged gay sister; his elegant mother.

Agent Sniper: The Cold War Superagent

The Death of My Father the Pope:

and the Ruthless Head of the CIA

by Tim Tate Michal Goleniewski, cover name Sniper, was one of the most important spies of the early Cold War. For almost three years, as a Lieutenant Colonel at the top of Poland’s espionage service, he smuggled thousands of top-secret Soviet bloc intelligence and military documents, as well as 160 rolls of microfilm, from behind the Iron Curtain. Then, in January 1961, he abandoned his wife and children to make a dramatic defection across divided Berlin with his East German mistress to the safety of American territory. There, he exposed more than 1,600 Soviet bloc agents operating undercover in the West—more than any single spy in history. The CIA called Goleniewski “one of the West’s most valuable counterintelligence sources,” but in late 1963, he was abandoned by the US government because of a split inside the agency, and over questions about his mental stability and his trustworthiness. Goleniewski bears some of the blame for his troubled legacy: He made baseless assertions about his record, notably that he was the first to expose Kim Philby. He also bizarrely claimed to be Tsarevich Aleksei Romanoff, heir to the Russian Throne who had miraculously survived the 1918 massacre of his family.

DECEMBER 2021

A Memoir

by Obed Silva Weaving between the preparations for his father's funeral and memories of life on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, Obed Silva chronicles his father's lifelong battle with alcoholism and the havoc it wreaked on his family. Silva and his mother had come north across the border to escape his father's violent, drunken rages. His father had followed and danced dangerously in and out of the family's life until he was arrested and deported back to Mexico, where he drank himself to death, one Carta Blanca at a time, at the age of forty-eight. Told with a wry cynicism, a profane, profound anger, an antic, brutally honest voice, and a hard-won classical frame of reference, Silva channels the heartbreak of mourning while wrestling with the resentment and frustration caused by addiction. The Death of My Father the Pope is a fluid and dynamic combination of memoir and an examination of the power of language--and the introduction of a unique and powerful literary voice.

Roughly thirty percent of the population is estimated to be living with insomnia, while many more suffer from other sleep disorders. ABC anchor/correspondent Diane Macedo—a former insomniac herself—understands the struggle. Now, in The Sleep Fix, Macedo presents perspective-shifting research and easy-toimplement solutions to help millions of people finally get the shut-eye they need. Macedo's mission is crucial to our health and well-being. Everything from our heart health to our mental acuity to our blood pressure is influenced by how much—or little—we sleep. As an early morning reporter and an overnight news anchor, Macedo learned this the hard way, struggling for years to get the sleep she so desperately needed, and watching her health deteriorate along the way. But Macedo found the more she embraced typical sleep tips, the worse she slept. So she decided to attack the problem from the ground up, interviewing sleep experts from all over the world to get to the bottom of what really keeps us from sleeping—and the various ways to fix it.

Mothe A Killer by Design: Murderers, Mindhunters, and My Quest to Decipher the Criminal Mind

by Ann Wolbert Burgess, Steven Constantine Lurking beneath the progressive activism and sex positivity in the 1970-80s, a dark undercurrent of violence rippled across the American landscape. With reported cases of sexual assault and homicide on the rise, the FBI created a specialized team— the “Mindhunters” better known as the Behavioral Science Unit—to track down the country's most dangerous criminals. And yet narrowing down a seemingly infinite list of potential suspects seemed daunting at best and impossible at worst— until Dr. Ann Wolbert Burgess stepped on the scene. In A Killer By Design, Burgess reveals how her pioneering research on sexual assault and trauma caught the attention of the FBI, and steered her right into the middle of a chilling serial murder investigation in Nebraska.

Out of Office: The Big Problem and Bigger The Churchill Sisters: The Extraordinary Promise of Working from Home

by Charlie Warzel, Anne Helen Petersen A future-looking, game-changing book from two leading culture reporters about the radical and transformational potential of working from home, offering a path toward a new kind of work-life balance that can improve our lives and strengthen our communities If you think you've been working from home during the pandemic, Charlie Warzel and Anne Helen Petersen are here to tell you otherwise. What we've been doing is something else entirely, a jury-rigged compromise made under the duress of a national crisis that's satisfactory for neither the worker nor the employer. For Warzel and Petersen, the past year has revealed that there may be another path forward for work, one that doesn't involve hellish daily commutes and the demands of jam-packed work schedules that no longer make sense.

Lives of Winston and Clementine's Daughters

by Rachel Trethewey Bright, attractive and well-connected, in any other family the Churchill girls – Diana, Sarah, Marigold and Mary – would have shone. But they were not in another family, they were Churchills, and neither they nor anyone else could ever forget it. From their father – ‘the greatest Englishman’ – to their brother, golden boy Randolph, to their eccentric and exciting cousins, the Mitford Girls, they were surrounded by a clan of largerthan-life characters which often saw them overlooked. While Marigold died too young to achieve her potential, the other daughters lived lives full of passion, drama and tragedy. Diana, intense and diffident; Sarah, glamorous and stubborn; Mary, dependable yet determined – each so different but each imbued with a sense of responsibility toward each other and their country. Far from being cosseted debutantes, these women were eyewitnesses at some of the most important events in world history, at Tehran, Yalta and Potsdam. Yet this is not a story set on the battlefields or in Parliament; it is an intimate saga that sheds light on the complex dynamics of family set against the backdrop of a tumultuous century.

Directed by: Cary Joji Fukunaga Written by: Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, Cary Joji Fukunaga, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge

Connery, Moore, Brosnan, and now solidified as perhaps the best is Craig. Daniel Craig has brought to the big screen a series of Bond films that dive deeper into the character often known for being just a ladies man with a gun. This level of depth has worked well since Casino Royale (2006). For 15 years Daniel Craig has delivered solid film after film, and breathed new life into a aging franchise. This 25th Bond film in this franchise is his last to don a tux, drive a Aston Martin, and save the day. What a ride this has been!r.

Here comes the spoilers.

Four writers on this film. The standout is easily Phoebe Waller-Bridge. She is most known for her phenomenal BBC show Fleabag. I wonder what parts of this film were her contributions? With her work on another series, Killing Eve, she obviously has a great sense of action and comedy. This film opens with a retaliatory killing of the wife of a hitman who murdered his own family. A young girl, Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux), shoots the killer in the face, but he survives to find her running across a frozen lake. She falls in and under the ice and he rescues her. We jump to present day. She is with James Bond as they move town to town to stay ahead of people who want Bond dead. As he visits a tomb of a past love he is ambushed and attacked by assassins. Believing she has betrayed him he takes her to a train station and says goodbye. Five years later, Bond is retired in Jamaica, and gets contacted by CIA agent Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) to find a scientist who got kidnapped along with a bio-weapon named Hercules. At first he declines, but after realizing this was the work of MI6, he agrees to help Felix much to the dismay of MI6.

Bond meets with another CIA agent to intercept the scientist at a Spectre meeting in Cuba, but instead is a trap for Bond as Stavro Blofeld (Christoph Waltz) orders his people to kill Bond with the bioweapon. Instead of killing Bond, the nano-wepaon which targets a persons DNA kills everyone else instead in the room but Bond. Several double crosses ensue in the chaos, and Bond is back in London working again with MI6 to try to get Blofeld to talk. Bond meets Swann as she is Blofeld's psychiatrist, but before this meeting a man from her past visits her and tells her to infect Blofeld with Hercules. The man is Lyutsifer Safin (Rami Malek), and his plans are to kill millions of people. Yet the motives are never clearly understood. This is the point where the films loses some steam. Safir doesn't appear to be manic or wants to see the world burn. His care of the little girl shows he has empathy. This is the point of the film we needed a clear motive of what his vision was for the world. Just about everything else fit story-wise and works. Yet this one major point of unleashing this bio-weapon on the world wasn't driven by greed or hatred it seems. Safir needed more development. Rami Malek needed more to work with as an actor. More insight to who he is would have been key to understanding his motives. That is where a writer needed to show us some insight into his madness or his vision. Let us empathize with the villain to a degree. With four writers this seems to have fallen through the cracks. The devil is in the details and the devil of Safir definitely needed more details. Overall this is a fitting film to end the 15 years of Daniel Craig suiting up as Bond. I welcome what's next for this long running franchise, and expect they will continue to keep things shaken not stirred. Thanks for reading Writing Movie ‘WRONGS’. www.cpmagazine.net

Sharpened Design and Innovative Technologies for the Flagship:

The Enhanced Audi A8

With sharpened design, particularly in the front and rear, and innovative technologies, Audi is ensuring the increased presence and sporty elegance of the A8. For that reason, the company with the four rings is even more intensively working out the confident and progressive character of the active luxury sedan. The new high-end headlights and taillights inspire innovative functions and form the apex of the A8’s established technology portfolio. The flagship of the brand thereby creates a contemporary and user-oriented experience – whether for passengers or drivers.

Even more prestige and authority: the exterior design

The Audi A8 is a sedan that represents status and exudes authority – now that it has been reworked, its exterior is even more representative, confident, and athletic. The base of the Singleframe grill is now wider and chrome angles that increase in size from bottom to top adorn its grid. The side air intakes are more upright and just as freshly styled as the headlights, whose lower edge on the outside creates a distinctive contour. To summarize, the newly designed and precisely orchestrated design elements in the front area significantly increase the A8’s presence and authority and sharpen the profile of the brand’s top model. Digital Matrix LED headlights and OLED rear lights The Digital Matrix LED headlights use DMD (digital micromirror device) technology. Each headlight has approximately 1.3 million micromirrors that break down the light into tiny pixels. This allows it to be controlled with maximum precision. One new function that this makes possible is lane and orientation lights for highways. Here, the headlights emit a carpet of light that illuminates the driver’s own lane particularly brightly. Above all, this orientation light helps drivers intuitively stay in their lane at road construction sites. The digital Matrix LED headlights can generate dynamic coming home/leaving home functions upon unlocking and getting out of the car. They shine like projections on the ground or a wall. The enhanced A8 comes with digital OLED rear lights (OLED = organic light-emitting diode) as a standard feature. When ordering the car, there are two rear light signatures to choose from – three with the S8. When the “dynamic” Audi drive select mode is chosen, the lights change to a wider signature that is only available in that mode. Additional functions include dynamic turn signals as well as coming home and leaving home sequences.

Reduction as a design medium

The interior of the A8 is comparable with a spacious, widely tailored lounge – it offers open, feel-good space. Its architecture is strictly horizontally oriented to emphasise its width. The high-quality workmanship underscores the A8 interior’s workshop character. That goes for the precise perforations in the seat covers, the electrically opening and closing decorative trim, the air vent doors, or the velvety leather in the comfort headrests. The seats are upholstered with Valetta leather as a standard feature. Alternatively, Valcona leather is also available as an option with the possibility of choosing the new colour cognac brown. Newly introduced, is the sustainable microfiber material Dinamica for the door panels, which can also be used for the pillar trim or the roof lining as an option. Another characteristic of the enhanced A8 is the wide selection of interior configurations. They include an Audi design selection in pastel silver and the S line interior in black, merlot red, or cognac. Several leather packages and leather equipment from Audi exclusive round out the selection. 64

INFINITI PRESENTS EXQUISITE MODERN JAPANESE LUXURY AT THE #NOFILTERDXB WITH THE ALL-NEW QX55, AND NEXT GENERATION QX60 PREMIUM SUVS INFINITI Middle East exhibited its two newest premium SUVs – the all-new QX55 and next-generation QX60 – in a Japanese lifestyle-themed concept during the rebranded Dubai International Motor Show, #NOFILTERDXB. Taking place at the Dubai Harbour from 24 to 27 November 2021, every element of the INFINITI display aimed at expressing ‘omotenashi’, a concept of Japanese hospitality, which means “to wholeheartedly look after guests”. Guests were greeted with a subtle, yet striking conceptual representation of the cherry blossom tree centerpiece - a delicate steel and LED-light fixture, blooming with hanging origami. The Japanese art of origami is a special inspiration and key component to the brand. It can be seen in the iconic grilles of INFINITI models and is also one of the artistic components used in the next-generation QX60 as part of its reimagined and premium design language. In honour of the United Arab Emirates’ 50th National Day, INFINITI highlighted the opportunities that the UAE has provided to all those who have experienced it. In symbolism, the cherry blossom represents revival and rebirth, and visitors were invited to anonymously write down their figurative experiences of revival or rebirth in the UAE on origami paper, and craft a piece of art to hang on the tree. At sunset, visitors to the INFINITI display were treated to the urban musical stylings of DJ Tala Samman, highlighting the stylish, provocative and youthful personality of the daring all-new QX55.

INFINITI QX55

Making its official Middle East debut a day ahead of #NOFILTERDXB, the INFINITI QX55 is the spiritual successor to brand’s iconic FX series and latest addition to the automaker’s line-up. With a provocative and refined design, the QX55 inserts INFINITI back into a category it helped to create, featuring its signature double-arch grille with origami-inspired mesh pattern and flanked by standard LED headlights that mimic the human eye, as well as elegant and flowing lines reach from the hood across the doors to the rear, with standard twenty-inch wheels which assert the SUV’s dynamic presence. The rear of the QX55 is an interpretation of Japanese minimalism highlighted by digital “piano key” taillights that combine 45 separate LEDs to create an elegant light signature. The all-new QX55 features INFINITI’s dual-screen, InTouchTM infotainment system with Apple CarPlay® and Android AutoTM compatibility, and multiple USB inputs for charging, as well as an available Bose® series audio system providing a concert-like acoustic experience. Leatherette, leather, or semi-aniline leather appointments for the seats adorn the vehicle’s spacious interior, and its sliding second-row seats provide flexible cargo capacity or increased legroom, depending on need. The crossover is powered by INFINITI’s award-winning and innovative Variable Compression Turbo four-cylinder engine that outputs 268 horsepower and delivers enhanced efficiency or on-demand power, based on the driver’s needs. That power is shifted through a confident Continuously Variable Transmission with manual shift mode and delivered to INFINITI’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, which is standard on all QX55 models.

INFINITI QX60

The all-new 2022 INFINITI QX60 three-row SUV packs a raft of INFINITI’s intuitive technology features that make it the automaker’s most dynamic premium SUV, all paired to a carefully crafted interior and sleek exterior. Globally unveiled in the UAE as one of three markets in the world, the reveal featured a short film starring award-winning actress Kate Hudson, and directed by Zack Snyder. The all-new model is reimagined to deliver luxury that should be lived in, and ushers in a refined, modern look for INFINITI with details inspired by Japanese artistry: kimono folds in the headlamps, the signature origami in the grille, and the aesthetic of ripples on a pond interpreted in the leather-appointed seats. An understated character line runs the length of the QX60, bisecting its equally appealing, available two-tone black roof from its lower body. At the rear, digital piano key lighting creates an unmistakable look at night that echoes the distinctive front LED headlamp display. The family-focused crossover features a new INFINITI InTouch™ 12.3-inch Interactive Display touchscreen with Apple CarPlay® and Android AutoTM. An available INFINITI 12.3-inch Dynamic Meter Display in front of the driver renders key vehicle information, and can be paired with a sharp 10.8-inch head-up display. Premium Bose® Performance series 17-speaker sound system is available for an immersive audio experience. www.cpmagazine.net

Underlining the brand’s mission to provide consumers with an unrivalled moviegoing experience following the success of Cinescape 360, Cinescape Al Assima Mall features a 290-premium seat Dolby Cinema. Powered by Dolby Vision technology, this cinema experience delivers high dynamic range with enhanced colour technology and a superior contrast ratio, resulting in a dramatically different viewing experience that presents strikingly vivid and realistic images, making viewers feel like they are inside the movie's world. In addition, Cinescape introduces for the first time in the Middle East 4DX Screen where both 4DX and Screen X meet in one auditorium. The new venue has an 84seat 4DX theatre, featuring the world's first multi-projection system that provides a 270-degree panoramic film viewing experience within a theatre setting, expanding the reach of the 4DX experience to four screens in Kuwait. Complementing the renowned experiences, the new cinema’s mezzanine floor is dedicated to 4 VIP screens offering a total of 185 seats, a VIP lounge and balcony overlooking Assima Mall. One of the VIP screens has its own exclusive lobby area and stage for events, allowing for private or large-scale corporate events to take place in such an auditorium. Furthermore, the Barco laser projection, incorporated in the venue’s seven standard screens is environmentally friendly with industry-leading efficiency and flawless imagery, complemented by Dolby 7.1 surround sound to deliver the most advanced cinema experience in Kuwait. Celebrating the opening, Mr. Naser B. Al-Rowdan, KNCC CEO, said: “Our newest venue in Al Assima Mall reinforces our commitment to provide our customers with the very best cinema entertainment. We pride ourselves in listening to our audiences and this new offering caters to all preferences of cinema goers in Kuwait,”.

OMEGA’s reveal of the new watch shows the timepiece being worn by Kaia Gerber – a notable face of the Trésor collection and one of the world’s most in-demand models. Her classic yet youthful spirit is the perfect match for this modern ladies’ collection. To further distinguish the watch design, OMEGA has given the malachite dials their own Roman numeral hour-markers and diamond-polished hands in 18K Moonshine Gold. This exclusive alloy is one of OMEGA’s most astonishing creations. Inspired by the shining moonlight in a dark blue sky, Moonshine Gold is a lighter tone than traditional yellow gold and also offers a high resistance to the fading of colour and lustre over time. For both of the new Trésor timepieces, the 36 mm cases are crafted in 18K Moonshine Gold, with the signature addition of 38 full-cut diamonds, which elegantly curve along the sides. As well as a single diamond placed in the crown, surrounded by an OMEGA flower in red liquid ceramic, the timepiece also features a metallised caseback with a mirror effect. To complete the incredible design, two options are available around the wrist. These include a beautiful mesh bracelet in 18K Moonshine Gold with a silk-like pattern, or a shimmering green leather strap. The new Trésor models are driven by the OMEGA Calibre 4061, and in keeping with OMEGA’s exceptional standards of quality, are offered with the brand’s full 5-year warranty. www.cpmagazine.net
