Gerade einmal 160 km von Wien entfernt, offeriert das im Dreiländereck Österreich-Deutschland-Tschechien gelegene Resort Svatá Kateřina Ayurveda-Kuren, wie sie sonst nur in Kerala angeboten werden. Wer hierherkommt, genießt die altindische Heilslehre jedoch ganz ohne Jetlag und Flugscham – dafür aber mit der Aussicht auf die Wälder und Wiesen des Böhmisch-Mährischen Berglandes. Just 160 km from Vienna, the resort Svatá Kateřina, located in the border triangle of Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic, offers Ayurveda treatments that are otherwise only available in Kerala. Those who choose to come here, however, can enjoy ancient Indian healing techniques without the jet lag and flight shame – and with a view of the forests and meadows of the Bohemian-Moravian Mountains.
Schon die Anreise entspannt. Statt zum Airport zu hetzen und eingepfercht um den halben Erdball zu fliegen, führt der Weg durch kleine Dörfer und sanfte Hügellandschaften. So entschleunigt in Poˇcátky angekommen, hat auch der eigene Wagen zunächst einmal Pause. Das von einem 30 Hektar großen Privatpark umgebene Resort Svatá Kateˇrina ist nämlich autofrei. Vom eingezäunten Parkplatz im Ort verkehrt im Halbstundentakt – oder wann immer man es will – ein Shuttlebus. Hingucker gleich nach der Ankunft ist der spektakuläre Ayurveda-Pavillon, der über einer Lichtung zu schweben scheint und 2019 von einer Fachjury zum „besten neuen Gebäude in der Tschechischen Republik“ gewählt wurde. Dies ist jedoch nicht der einzige Award: So freut man sich seit letztem Jahr u.a. auch über die vom Luxusreisemagazin Connoisseur Circle verliehene Auszeichnung als eine der „100 besten SpaAdressen Europas“. „Unser größter Stolz sind aber die Gäste, die nach einer Kur wieder gesund und erholt nach Hause fahren“, erklärt Ayurveda-Ärztin Dr. Nimi. So wie alle Mediziner, Therapeuten und Köche im Resort wurde sie jahrelang am renommierten Kairali-Institut im indischen Kerala ausgebildet und auf ihren Einsatz im Ausland vorbereitet. „Ob Rückenleiden, Übergewicht, Hauterkrankungen oder chronische Stress- und Erschöpfungszustände – viele unserer zumeist sieben- bis vierzehntägigen Packages wurden eigens für die klassischen Zivilisationsleiden im Westen konzipiert. Darüber hinaus lassen sich bei uns aber auch Ayurveda-Kurzaufenthalte oder bis zu dreiwöchige Panchakarma-Kuren buchen.“

Even the journey is relaxing. Instead of rushing to the airport and flying halfway around the world, the route leads through quaint villages and rolling hills. Arriving in Poˇcátky in such a decelerated state, your own car will even be able to relax. The Svatá Kateˇrina resort, surrounded by a 30-hectare private park, is car-free. A shuttle bus runs from the fenced car park to the village every half hour – or whenever you want. The spectacular Ayurveda pavilion, which seems to float above a clearing and was voted “Best New Building in the Czech Republic” by a jury of experts in 2019, is the first eye-catcher. However, this is not the only recognition received: as of last year, the hotel has been honored as one of the “100 Best Spa Addresses in Europe” by the luxury travel magazine Connoisseur Circle. “Our greatest pride, however, are the guests who go home healthy and refreshed after a cure,” explains Ayurveda doctor

Yoga-Klassen finden im Resort Svatá Kateřina täglich statt – mitunter sogar mehrmals. Yoga classes are held daily at the Svatá Kateřina resort – sometimes even several times a day.
Wofür man sich auch entscheidet, am Anfang steht die ausführliche ärztliche Konsultation, auf deren Basis individuelle Therapie- und Ernährungspläne erstellt werden. Die verordneten Massagen, Ölgüsse, Schwitzbäder und sonstigen Therapien finden dann in eigens dafür konzipierten Ayurveda-Suiten statt. Die köstlichen Ayurveda-Mahlzeiten werden hingegen – mit Blick auf einen kleinen Waldsee – im Resort-Restaurant serviert. Dass dessen Wasser aus der eigenen Heilquelle stammt und auch in den Zimmern aus den Leitungen sprudelt, sei nur am Rande erwähnt. So wie auch die Tatsache, dass Svatá Kateˇrina im frühen 20. Jahrhundert als beliebte Sommerfrische der feinen Wiener Gesellschaft galt. Ein prachtvolles, im harmonischen Kontrast zum neuen Ayurveda-Pavillon stehendes Jugendstil-Salettl erinnert bis heute an diese Zeiten. Mitunter wird es auch für Hochzeiten oder andere Veranstaltungen genutzt. Wohlfühlen kann man sich im Resort Svatá Kateˇrina nämlich auf den unterschiedlichsten Ebenen. Wer nicht zum Ayurveda kommt, kann vor Ort nämlich auch diverse andere Wellnesseinrichtungen nutzen, auf Tschechiens höchstgelegener Driving Range abschlagen, feine böhmische Cuisine genießen, mit den resorteigenen Pferden ausreiten oder im Winter mit Schneeschuhen und im Sommer mit Mountainbikes die tiefen Wälder erkunden. Warum also in die Ferne schweifen, wenn der ganz nahe Osten quasi vor der Tür liegt …

Bei der klassischen Shirodhara-Behandlung fließt warmes Kräuteröl über die Stirn – perfekt bei Verspannungen, Kopfschmerzen und Schlafstörungen. During the classic Shirodhara treatment, warm herbal oil flows over the forehead – perfect for addressing tension, headaches and insomnia.

Just like all the doctors, therapists and cooks at the resort, she was trained for years at the renowned Kairali Institute in Kerala, India, and prepared for her work abroad. “Whether back problems, obesity, skin diseases or chronic stress and exhaustion – many of our mostly seven to fourteen-day packages have been specially designed for the classic western civilization ailments. In addition, we also offer shorter Ayurveda stays or up to three-week Panchakarma cures. Whatever you choose, the first step is a detailed medical consultation on the basis of which individual therapy and nutrition plans are drawn up. The prescribed massages, oil baths, sweat baths and other therapies then take place in specially designed Ayurveda suites. Delicious Ayurveda meals are served in the resort restaurant – with a view of a small forest lake. The fact that its water comes from the resort’s own healing spring and also bubbles out of the pipes in the rooms should also be mentioned. Just like the fact that Svatá Kateˇrina was a popular summer resort for Viennese society in the early 20th century. A magnificent Art Nouveau pavilion, which stands in harmonious contrast to the new Ayurveda pavilion, is a reminder of past glory. It is sometimes used for weddings or other events. You can feel good at the Svatá Kateˇrina resort on many different levels. Those who don’t come for Ayurveda can also use various other wellness facilities, tee off on the Czech Republic’s highest-altitude driving range, enjoy fine Czech cuisine, go horseback riding on the resort’s own horses or explore the deep forests with snowshoes in winter and mountain bikes in summer. So why go further afield when the very near East is virtually at your doorstep…
