With the way events have panned out for the Middle East in the last six months, our region seems to be caught between a rock and a hard place – especially where the world of logistics is concerned. On the one hand, ongoing disturbances in the Strait of Hormuz have taken this global lifeline of a waterway almost out of commercial maritime considerations, with the result that the ports it serves – such as Dubai’s Jebel Ali or Saudi’s King Abdelaziz Port in Dammam or Qatar’s Hamad Port – are now left high and dry where cargo flow is concerned. On the other, the two ports that have emerged as the main maritime gateways for the region in the midst of the ongoing conflict – Jeddah in KSA and Oman’s Salalah – are located in such places where simply accessing them from Dubai or Doha adds to the complexities that have suddenly increased manifold for the region’s logistics sector. Chief among these complexities is availability of trucks – or lack thereof. And, consequently, cost. With a little over a thousand kilometres to one from Dubai, and a shade under 2,000 to the other, bringing your shipment from these ports to your Dubai warehouse is not as simple as the typical Jebal Ali, KEZAD or
Fujairah port runs. These are long-haul routes that take time to traverse, and since no one is doing these runs every day, it needs to be ensured that whenever a run happens, the load being taken or brought back is maximised. This is the domain of the long-haul, heavy transport truck. Enter Al-Futtaim Famco. With their new Famco Approved certified used Volvo trucks, the company couldn’t have come up with a better time for a major push in the used trucks market. Under the new logistical paradigm of the Middle East, long-haul trucks are in great demand, and T&FME has learnt that rental prices have shot through the roof while availability has fallen through the floor. There is no better time to either expand your trucking business or to step into the domain. But doing either takes money, as long-haul trucks are no trinkets to buy. Opt for a used truck, however, and you can still mange that fleet expansion within budget. And with Al-Futtaim Famco’s certified used trucks offering, that budget-friendly truck also comes with the peace of mind of the Volvo brand name and a big local house’s backing. Seizing one of the few opportunities presented by these troubled times has just been made easier!

related emissions, promote clean mobility solutions and advance its Net Zero 2050 goals. The fleet comprises a mix of 16-, 23- and 31-seat buses, each featuring lowfloor access, wheelchair accessibility and space for standing passengers. OMODA 4 HEADS FOR UAE FOLLOWING GLOBAL AI SHOWCASE IN INDONESIA AI OMODA & JAECOO has previewed a new generation of artificial intelligence-powered vehicle technologies destined for the Middle East, with the all-new OMODA 4 scheduled to arrive in the UAE later this year. The technology was showcased during the OMODA SUPER AI NIGHT event in Jakarta, Indonesia, which brought together dealers,
media representatives and industry stakeholders from Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The event highlighted the brand’s latest developments in intelligent mobility, combining advanced AI systems with electrified powertrains. A key highlight was the Southeast Asian debut of the OMODA 4, a compact SUV aimed at younger, technologyfocused buyers. Expected to
join the UAE line-up before year-end, it will further expand OMODA & JAECOO’s presence in one of its fastestgrowing regional markets. The company also introduced its new AI Smart Cockpit, developed using ByteDance’s Seed large language model (LLM), integrating navigation, entertainment, etc. through multiple intelligent agents working together.
CHERY TO BRING SUPER INTELLIGENT PARKING TECHNOLOGY TO THE UAE MOBILITY
Chery is preparing to introduce its Super Intelligent Parking (SIP) technology to the UAE, as the Chinese automaker expands its intelligent mobility offering in international markets. The technology was showcased during Chery first User Co-Creation event for the Super Intelligent Parking function, where Aaron Zheng, Executive Deputy General Manager of CHERY International Marketing Center, presented the system’s capabilities, technology platform and potential applications. Chery said the UAE introduction will form part of its wider global rollout of smart driving solutions. The company claims the system represents the first overseas mass-production application by a Chinese automaker of an end-to-end, large-model-driven intelligent parking technology. The system is designed around two key functions: “One Tap Departure” and “One Step Home”. Through a mobile application, users can summon the vehicle from a parking space, allowing it to autonomously exit and drive to a designated pick-up point. On arrival, drivers can leave the vehicle at a parking entrance, with the car then navigating the facility, identifying an available space and parking itself.

The new model will be represented in the UAE by AGMC, the official distributor for Lotus Cars in the country. Positioned as the most powerful and lightweight Emira to date, the 420 Sport is the latest model to carry Lotus’ Sport designation, following previous performance focused variants including the Esprit Sport 300, Elise Sport 220, Exige Sport 380 and Evora GT410 Sport.
10 JULY – AUGUST 2026
Dr. Andreas Schaaf, Group Director, Albatha Group, said: “The UAE has a highly knowledgeable community of performance-car enthusiasts who value engineering, individuality and an authentic connection between driver and machine. The Emira 420 Sport brings those qualities together in their purest form, offering more power, less weight, sharper aerodynamics and the usability to be enjoyed beyond the circuit. “As we begin this new chapter for Lotus with AGMC, it is an exciting demonstration of what this iconic marque stands for and what UAE customers can expect.”
Power is supplied by a 2.0 litre turbocharged in line four cylinder engine producing 416bhp (310kW / 421PS) and 500Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an eight-speed dual clutch transmission featuring revised calibration for faster gear changes, sending power to the rear wheels. The Emira 420 Sport accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, reaches 200km/h in 12.47 seconds and has a top speed of 300km/h, making it the world’s fastest four cylinder production car. FOLLOWING GLOBAL DEBUT IN MUMBAI, AL MASAOOD AUTOMOBILES SAYS THE NEW MODEL WILL BROADEN NISSAN’S OFFERING IN THE UAE’S GROWING MID-SIZE SUV SEGMENT Nissan has expanded its global SUV portfolio with the introduction of the all-new Tekton, a model that recently made its world premiere in Mumbai. The launch forms part of the manufacturer’s wider strategy to strengthen its presence in one of the automotive industry’s fastestgrowing segments by offering customers a broader range of SUV options. Commenting on the new vehicle, Bachir Gemayel, Sales & Marketing Director at Al Masaood Automobiles, the authorised distributor for Nissan and INFINITI in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, said the Tekton reinforces Nissan’s focus on combining technology, design and everyday practicality. “The Tekton is a significant addition to Nissan’s global SUV line-up, and one that reflects the brand’s broader vision of Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life – a commitment to making smart, innovative, and customer-focused mobility more accessible to drivers around the world. Seeing the vehicle in person, it is clear that Nissan has approached this with real intention, delivering a product that is as capable as it is refined. The design is commanding, the craftsmanship is evident, (as is) the level of technology on offer.”
Gemayel noted that SUVs continue to be a popular choice among motorists in the UAE, with customers placing increasing importance on design, technology and everyday usability. “In our market, the demand for SUVs has always been strong, and our customers have consistently demonstrated that they value quality, design, and a driving experience that suits both the demands of daily life and the character of our region. The Nissan Tekton brings a fresh perspective to the segment that cements the reliability and performance Nissan is known for. The Tekton is powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, with Nissan positioning the model as a balance of performance, efficiency and everyday driving comfort. CHERY ENTERS
PICK-UP TERRITORY
Chinese brand’s first UAE pick-up marks a significant expansion into a market where workhorse capability and lifestyle appeal increasingly overlap
C
hery has entered the UAE pick-up market with the HIMAVA, making its first foray into a vehicle segment where work, recreation and off-road capability increasingly overlap. For Chery, the arrival of the HIMAVA in the UAE is more significant than the addition of another model to its growing range. The pick-up marks the Chinese manufacturer’s first entry into the local pick-up segment, giving it a foothold in a category shaped by commercial users, outdoor enthusiasts and buyers looking

for a vehicle that can combine everyday practicality with off-road ability. The new truck has been introduced by Chery UAE, represented by AWR Automotive, a division of AWR Group. Its arrival comes as the UAE offers fertile ground for pickups, serving construction, site support, desert recreation and family transport. The HIMAVA tests Chery’s ability to translate its passenger-car presence into a more utilitarian market. The company has positioned the pick-up around durability and versatility, with a specification intended to cope with the UAE’s combination of heat,

sand, rough terrain and long road journeys. Its exterior is deliberately rugged, centred on a large polygonal grille and honeycombpatterned detailing. More importantly, the structure uses up to 52.2% high-strength steel, while nearly 48% of the body is made from galvanised steel, intended to improve corrosion resistance and durability. Under the skin, Chery is offering two distinct configurations. The Comfort version uses a 2.4-litre petrol engine producing 158hp, paired with a five-speed manual transmission and four-wheel drive. The Luxury version truckandfleetme.com

moves to a 2.3-litre turbo-diesel producing 160hp, with an eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. The choice is noteworthy because it gives the UAE market both a straightforward petrol/manual configuration and a diesel/automatic alternative more closely aligned with the requirements of drivers who spend extended periods working or travelling away from paved roads. Both versions are designed around four-wheel-drive capability, while the HIMAVA can tow up to three tonnes. Chery says its adaptive four-wheel-drive system is intended to provide traction and control on steep slopes and difficult surfaces, attributes that will be particularly relevant in a market where desert driving is part of the pick-up proposition. Yet the truck has not been developed as a bare-bones workhorse. The cabin combines practical equipment with features expected by modern UAE buyers, including a six-way adjustable driver’s seat and a 12.3inch central touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available through both wired and wireless connections. The cargo bed provides the practical advantage, whether the vehicle is being used for equipment, materials or leisure gear. That dual-purpose character could be one of the HIMAVA’s more important selling points as pick-up buyers increasingly expect commercial usefulness without giving up cabin comfort. Safety and driver assistance are also central to the specification. The HIMAVA offers up to four airbags, an electronic parking brake and braking and stability systems including ABS, EBD, BAS and ASR. Hill-start assist is designed to help on inclines, while a reversing camera and rear parking radar support manoeuvring in confined areas.
while reasserting our commitment to putting people first through safety-focused engineering and ongoing innovation. With this truck, we are matching the rhythm of life here: resilient, dependable and ready for both work and off-road escapes.” Chery’s challenge as it expands beyond passenger cars is that a pick-up is judged differently from a conventional SUV or sedan. Buyers scrutinise payload and towing capability, drivetrain performance,
We are matching the rhythm of life here”
durability, service support and operating costs, particularly when the vehicle is intended for commercial use. That places the HIMAVA in a competitive environment where established Japanese, American and other Chinese manufacturers already have strong positions. Chery’s opportunity is to use its technology and equipment levels to appeal to buyers who want traditional pick-up capability alongside the comfort and connectivity associated with newer passenger vehicles. The UAE is a logical place to begin that push. The country’s mix of urban development, logistics, construction, tourism and outdoor recreation creates a wide range of potential pick-up applications. A truck capable of moving equipment during the week and handling desert trails at the weekend can address two sides of the same local market. Chery’s partner gives the launch an established foundation. The brand entered the UAE in 2023 through its official sole distributor, AW Rostamani Group, a business group with more than seven decades of experience in the country. That relationship gives Chery access to local market knowledge and an existing retail platform as it broadens its portfolio. With the UAE launch, Chery has brought its first pick-up into a market where capability is tested in some of the region’s toughest conditions. How the HIMAVA performs with fleets, professionals and private owners will help determine whether this new chapter becomes a lasting part of Chery’s regional strategy.
Chery’s new ambitions
For Chery UAE, however, the bigger story is what the pick-up says about the brand’s ambitions. Explaining this, Zaher Sabbagh, Director of Chery UAE, says: “The launch of the HIMAVA pick-up truck reflects Chery’s strength in designing vehicles that respond to customers’ needs, cater to different lifestyles, and adapt to the UAE’s unique driving conditions. “The HIMAVA represents a natural evolution of our portfolio, featuring a captivating, next-generation design that maintains convenience and practicality, truckandfleetme.com
EVERYDAY PRACTICALITY, OFF-ROAD ABILITY With plush and stylish interiors (top), and a sturdy, robust build, the new Chery HIMAVA aims to cater for both the workday grind and the weekend getaway in the desert.

NISSAN’S NEW
PICK-UP PLAY
The Navara PRO is heading for the Middle East as Nissan targets a pick-up market where fleet and lifestyle appeal increasingly converge
W
ith Nissan’s Navara having carved out a legendary status as a workhorse in the Middle East’s pick-up truck market, the Japanese giant is now building on the model’s now more-thantwo-decades of history in the region to introduce its latest iteration – the Navara PRO, which will be the first Nissan vehicle manufactured in China in the Middle East. For Nissan, the Navara PRO is not simply a pick-up. It is a new move in a segment where durability, versatility and brand trust remain critical. In the Middle East, the Navara is 14 JULY – AUGUST 2026
already a name that gives Nissan the scope to strategise into the future. That strategy is prompting Nissan to look more closely at products developed and manufactured in China as it broadens its regional offering. While large SUVs remain a major priority, the pick-up segment provides another route to growth, particularly because the same vehicle can serve commercial fleets during the working week and private customers looking for a capable vehicle for recreation. “The Navara PRO combines Nissan’s decades-long history as a pick-up leader with the latest advanced powertrain and tech innovations. It will deliver efficient, effortless performance with the quality and intrepid

spirit that has been infused in Nissan pick-ups for nearly 100 years,” says Richard Candler, Corporate Executive, Family, Product & Components Strategy, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. For the Middle East, that combination is important. Pick-ups occupy a distinctive position in the region, spanning construction, utilities, logistics and other demanding applications, while also playing a prominent role in outdoor and family-oriented motoring. A model that can bridge those uses gives Nissan an opportunity to address a broader customer base without abandoning the qualities that have traditionally defined the Navara. Thierry Sabbagh, Divisional Vice President, President Middle East, KSA, CIS & India - Nissan, INFINITI, says: “By introducing the all-new Navara PRO - our first vehicle from China for this region, we are directly addressing the demand for versatile, rugged, and high-performance pick-ups. With its deep-rooted legacy in our markets and its reputation for reliability, the Navara PRO is engineered to excel in our unique environment, ensuring our fleet as well as retail customers enjoy a seamless transition between demanding workdays and off-road adventures.” The launch also fits into a wider Nissan product push in the Middle East. Over the past year, the company has expanded its portfolio with the new Patrol, including the Patrol PRO-4X and Patrol NISMO, while the Magnite and KICKS have extended its reach into smaller SUV and crossover segments. The Navara PRO therefore arrives as part of a broader attempt to refresh Nissan’s regional line-up and reach different types of buyers. For the pick-up market, however, the stakes are particularly interesting. Established Japanese brands face increasing competition from Chinese manufacturers offering feature-rich trucks at competitive prices, making product differentiation and local suitability increasingly important. region) Chairperson, says: “The Middle East is a cornerstone of Nissan’s global strategy. We are investing in bold, innovative products as part of a product offensive in the region which will continue to build our brand and meet the high expectations of our customers. The all-new Navara PRO will be a key pillar in our growth ambitions in the Middle East.” Built around a “Rugged Tech” design concept, the new pick-up combines a muscular exterior with a more modern cabin. The objective is to preserve the toughness expected of a work-oriented vehicle while making it suitable for customers who may spend long hours behind the wheel or use it as a family vehicle. truckandfleetme.com
The Navara PRO will be offered with two internal-combustion engine variants, giving Nissan flexibility to address different operating requirements. Full Middle East specifications will be announced later, but the company says the vehicle is designed to deliver robust performance while maintaining the versatility needed for commercial and recreational use. That dual-purpose positioning could be central to its appeal. Fleet operators generally prioritise uptime, durability, operating efficiency and practical capability, while retail buyers increasingly expect safety, connectivity and cabin refinement. The Navara PRO is intended to sit between those requirements rather than choosing one over the other.
The all-new Navara PRO will be a key pillar in our growth ambitions in the Middle East”
Nissan is seeking to answer that challenge with a familiar nameplate developed through a new manufacturing route. The Navara PRO is a product of Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile Co., Ltd, Nissan’s joint venture in China. It represents the first pick-up trucks designed, developed and manufactured in China by the company for global export. The company has yet to disclose the full Middle East specification or launch timing. What is already clear is the strategic intent. With its established Navara heritage, regional validation and dual-purpose positioning, the PRO is being brought to a market where pick-ups remain essential working tools but increasingly double as lifestyle vehicles. For Nissan, that makes the Middle East a natural proving ground for this next-generation approach to the pickup. The success of the Navara PRO will ultimately depend not only on what it offers on paper, but on how convincingly it can combine commercial toughness with the refinement and flexibility demanded by today’s regional buyers. A
s logistics, construction and industrial activity continue to expand across the UAE and wider GCC, fleet operators are facing a familiar challenge: how to increase transport capacity while maintaining control over capital expenditure and operating costs. For many businesses, the decision is no longer simply between buying new or delaying expansion. Increasingly, certified pre-owned commercial vehicles are emerging as a practical solution for companies seeking reliable equipment, faster deployment and improved financial flexibility. Recognising this market shift, AlFuttaim Famco Used has introduced the Famco Approved programme, offering certified pre-owned Volvo trucks designed to deliver the reliability and performance expected from one of the world’s leading truck manufacturers,
while providing customers with a more accessible ownership proposition. Through the programme, customers can acquire Volvo FH series tractor units that have undergone a comprehensive inspection and preparation process carried out by Al-Futtaim Famco’s factory-trained Volvo technicians. Supported by warranty coverage, preventive maintenance and RTA-ready compliance, the programme is designed to remove many of the uncertainties traditionally associated with purchasing used commercial vehicles. “Businesses today are under constant pressure to improve efficiency while managing investment carefully,” says Ramez Hamdan, Managing Director, Al-Futtaim Industrial Equipment. “Fleet operators need vehicles that can generate revenue quickly, but they also need confidence that those assets will perform reliably over the long term. This is where a certified used truck programme provides real value.”
Smarter fleet expansion
Famco Approved gives customers access to a proven product, a transparent process and the support of a trusted partner”
The commercial vehicle market has evolved significantly in recent years. While new trucks remain an important part of fleet renewal strategies, many operators are increasingly looking at lifecycle value, acquisition costs and return on investment when making purchasing decisions. For logistics companies operating in competitive markets, every vehicle represents a balance between earning potential and ownership cost. A truck that spends unnecessary time off the road can directly impact customer commitments, delivery schedules and profitability. “The conversation with customers is increasingly moving beyond the purchase price of a truck,” explains Hamdan. “They are looking at uptime, reliability, maintenance costs and the support available after the vehicle enters service. A lower initial investment only makes sense if the truck continues to deliver

performance and productivity. The objective behind Famco Approved is to give customers the confidence of buying a used truck without the uncertainty that often comes with the pre-owned market. Every vehicle carrying the Famco Approved badge has gone through a structured process, and customers receive documentation, warranty support and the backing of Al-Futtaim Famco.” The programme is built around Volvo FH tractor units, a platform widely recognised across the Middle East for long-haul transport applications. Designed for demanding freight operations, Volvo FH trucks are commonly deployed across GCC transport corridors, port logistics, construction material haulage and industrial supply chains. Certified and approved
One of the biggest differentiators of the Famco Approved programme is the level of inspection and preparation each vehicle receives before delivery. Unlike conventional used vehicle sales, where customers may have limited visibility into a truck’s previous operating history, Famco Approved vehicles undergo a multi-point mechanical inspection carried out by certified Volvo technicians. For full transparency into the condition and history of the vehicle, and for the satisfaction of the buyer, the odometer is checked and certified for the number of kilometres that it has already run. The inspection process also includes reviewing service history, completing preventive maintenance, verifying road compliance and carrying out final quality checks before the vehicle is made available. “Buying a used truck should not mean accepting unknown risks,” says Hamdan. “The entire purpose of Famco Approved is to bring transparency and confidence into the process. Customers need to know what they are buying, what condition the vehicle is in and what support they will receive after delivery. “The trucks are inspected by technicians who understand Volvo products and who know what to look for. This is not simply a visual check or a basic used-vehicle assessment. “It is a detailed evaluation based on technical expertise and operational requirements, including checking how much the truck has already truckandfleetme.com

run, and certifying the kilometres shown on the odometer.” Each Famco Approved Volvo truck is also prepared for immediate deployment, ensuring customers can put the vehicle into operation without waiting for additional servicing or repairs. Preventive maintenance is completed before delivery, creating a clear maintenance baseline for operators. This approach is particularly valuable for businesses where vehicle availability directly impacts revenue generation. “Transport companies do not buy trucks to keep them parked,” Hamdan points out. “They buy trucks because they need them working. The faster
a vehicle can move into operation, the faster it begins contributing to the customer’s business.” Volvo reliability, Famco support
For many operators, the appeal of the Famco Approved programme lies not only in the Volvo badge but also in the support structure behind it. Volvo FH trucks have built a strong reputation globally for reliability, efficiency and driver-focused design. In the GCC, where vehicles operate across long distances, demanding routes and challenging climatic conditions, durability and uptime remain critical considerations. Hamdan says the JULY – AUGUST 2026 21

combination of Volvo engineering and Al-Futtaim Famco’s support network creates a stronger ownership proposition. “Volvo has earned its reputation over decades because customers know the product delivers. But the vehicle itself is only one part of the ownership experience. The support behind that vehicle is equally important.” “Al-Futtaim Famco has invested heavily in its service capabilities, technical expertise and parts availability. When customers purchase a Famco Approved truck, they are not just buying a vehicle; they are gaining access to a complete support ecosystem.” The programme includes an extended driveline warranty, helping customers manage ownership costs and reduce exposure to unexpected mechanical expenses. For fleet managers, this predictability is increasingly important when planning operating budgets. “Predictable costs are becoming a major priority for fleet operators,” Hamdan points out. “They want to understand their commitments and avoid unexpected interruptions. Warranty coverage and preventive maintenance provide additional confidence because customers know they have support if they need it.” To further help in this process of uninterrupted uptime, Al-Futtaim Famco also offers Volvo Connect – Volvo’s telematics platform – on all trucks under the Famco Approved programme. This telematics suite on the approved trucks is exactly the same as the one available with Volvo’s new truck deliveries - and serves the same purpose of increasing uptime and helping in more economical and safer running of the vehicles. This is done through digital connectiveuty and data gathering for predictive maintenance, and monitoring driver behaviour, fuel consumption and other key parameters that impact customer bottom lines. Flexible ownership
While reliability and certification are central to the Famco Approved proposition, Al-Futtaim Famco is also addressing another major consideration for fleet operators: financing. The current offer enables customers to purchase Famco Approved Volvo 22 JULY – AUGUST 2026

trucks through 0% interest finance with 12-month instalment plans, allowing businesses to spread investment costs while deploying vehicles immediately. For transport companies looking to expand capacity, replace ageing vehicles or enter new markets, this approach can provide greater flexibility. “Cash flow is a critical consideration for every business,” says Hamdan. “A company may have new contracts and growth opportunities, but it also needs to manage its working capital carefully. Flexible finance options allow customers to add productive assets without placing unnecessary pressure on their cash flow. “This is especially relevant for growing logistics operators and smaller businesses that may not want to commit to the full capital requirement of purchasing new trucks. With Famco Approved, they can access premium Volvo equipment with a structured ownership model.” The programme is designed to support a wide range of applications, including long-haul freight, port and container logistics, construction material transportation, refrigerated transport, industrial logistics and fleet replacement requirements.
Buying a used truck should not mean accepting risks”
to provide a route to reliable vehicle ownership, with growing fleet operators able to add certified trucks without committing to the full cost of new vehicle acquisition, while replacement buyers can transition away from ageing assets with vehicles that are already inspected, serviced and ready for operation. For fleet managers and procurement teams, the certification process provides the documentation and assurance required when making investment decisions.
Hamdan explains that through this comprehensive process combining inspection, certification and guaranteed after-sales support, Famco Approved takes away the risk of buying used trucks while maximising its gains. “The needs of customers are different depending on where they are in their business journey. Some are expanding, some are replacing older vehicles and some are starting new operations. What they all have in common is the need for dependable trucks and confidence in their investment. Famco Approved gives customers access to a proven product, a transparent process and the support of a trusted partner. That combination is what creates value,” Hamdan explains. With limited stock available under the current offer, Al-Futtaim Famco Used is positioning the Famco Approved programme as a practical solution for businesses seeking to strengthen their fleets while maintaining financial flexibility. As logistics demand continues to grow across the UAE and GCC, the ability to deploy reliable trucks quickly and efficiently will remain a key competitive advantage. Through certified pre-owned Volvo trucks, warranty protection and dealer-backed support, Al-Futtaim Famco aims to make fleet expansion a more confident and sustainable decision. VECO has set out its longterm vision for the future of commercial mobility at IVECO Experience 2026, a four-day event held at the historic Officine Grandi Riparazioni (OGR) complex in Turin, Italy. Bringing together more than 2,000 customers, dealers, suppliers, media representatives and employees, the event marked an important milestone in the manufacturer’s evolution following its 50th anniversary celebrations in 2025. Rather than focusing solely on new products, the event was designed to demonstrate how IVECO intends to develop as a premium mobility partner by combining vehicles, digital services, financing solutions and customer support into a more integrated ecosystem. The company’s renewed brand ambition is captured by the phrase “Spirito in Movimento” (Spirit in Motion), which reflects IVECO’s intention to move beyond its traditional role as a manufacturer of commercial vehicles. The strategy places greater emphasis on helping transport operators improve efficiency, reduce operating costs and simplify fleet management throughout the ownership cycle. Company executives used the event to explain how this repositioning will influence everything from vehicle design and engineering to customer service, digital connectivity and aftersales support. The unveiling also coincided with the introduction of the new Model Year 2026 (MY26) vehicle portfolio, which spans both conventional and electric commercial vehicles. According to IVECO, the latest range has been developed to deliver greater reliability, consistency and long-term value while supporting customers facing increasingly demanding operating conditions and tighter sustainability requirements. Three-pillar future strategy
The centrepiece of the event was a plenary session led by Olof Persson, CEO of Iveco Group, alongside Luca Sra, President of the Truck Business Unit, Marco Liccardo, Chief Technology & Digital Officer, and Domenico Nucera, Chief Quality & Operations Officer. Together, they outlined the three strategic pillars that underpin the company’s renewed direction: Motion by Design, Motion through Experience and Motion as Family. truckandfleetme.com
JULY – AUGUST 2026 25
INDUSTRY EVENT
The first pillar, Motion by Design, focuses on developing vehicles with the end user in mind. Rather than concentrating solely on appearance, IVECO says design encompasses ergonomics, functionality and operational efficiency. At the Turin venue, visitors explored displays featuring front grille concepts, sectioned vehicle cabs and engineering exhibits illustrating how driver comfort, vehicle performance and missionspecific customisation are incorporated into the development process. The approach reflects wider trends within the commercial vehicle sector, where manufacturers are increasingly prioritising driver wellbeing, ease of operation and digital integration alongside payload capacity and fuel efficiency. The second pillar, Motion through Experience, concentrates on the customer journey before, during and after vehicle purchase. IVECO demonstrated how connected technologies and digital services can simplify fleet management, reduce administrative complexity and improve operational decision-making. Among the solutions presented were the company’s Total Cost of Ownership Calculator, designed to help operators evaluate lifecycle costs, alongside the IVECO ON digital platform, which connects vehicles, fleet

managers and service networks through real-time data and remote monitoring. As commercial vehicle operators continue to manage rising fuel costs, changing emissions legislation and increasing pressure to improve fleet utilisation, digital fleet management tools are becoming an increasingly important part of vehicle ownership. The third pillar, Motion as Family, reflects IVECO’s emphasis on long-term relationships with customers, dealers, service partners and drivers. Rather than
viewing customer support as a post-sale function, the company aims to integrate assistance throughout the vehicle lifecycle. Examples presented during the event included the Customer Uptime Center, which monitors vehicle performance to minimise downtime, and Mobile Workshops capable of carrying out servicing and repairs closer to customer operations. Speaking during the presentation, Luca Sra, President, Truck Business Unit, Iveco Group, said: “Spirito in Movimento is not just a tagline. It is IVECO in action. It builds on over 50 years of history and points clearly to what comes next. From product design to services, from engineering to daily operations, everything we do is guided by our commitment to stand with our customers through a practical, passionate and human spirit. “Rooted in our Italian DNA, this spirit takes shape in the new MY26 range. With it, we are setting a new standard — one where quality acts as a unifying thread, and closeness and community are strengthened as core elements that define IVECO.” Celebrating Italian heritage
Beyond the product displays, IVECO Experience 2026 was also designed to reinforce the company’s Italian heritage. The event departed from the manufacturer’s traditional corporate blue colour palette, instead adopting warmer colours throughout the venue to reflect the evolution of the brand identity while maintaining continuity with its history. Across the four-day programme, visitors participated in a range of networking opportunities, product demonstrations and interactive experiences intended to showcase Italian creativity, hospitality and engineering. The final day was reserved exclusively for IVECO employees, underlining the company’s belief that successful brand transformation begins internally before extending to customers and business partners. By involving employees directly in the launch of the new positioning, IVECO aims to ensure that the principles behind “Spirito in Movimento” are reflected consistently throughout its global organisation. As the commercial vehicle industry continues to evolve through electrification, digitalisation and changing customer expectations, manufacturers are increasingly truckandfleetme.com

seeking to differentiate themselves through services and long-term partnerships as much as through vehicle specifications. IVECO’s Experience 2026 event illustrates this broader shift. While the MY26 range introduces the latest developments across the company’s diesel and electric vehicle portfolio, the wider message focuses on creating a more integrated customer experience that combines products, digital technologies and support services into a single offering. With its renewed brand ambition now formally unveiled, IVECO has signalled that its future strategy will centre on strengthening relationships with customers while continuing to invest in innovation, operational reliability and connected mobility solutions as the commercial transport sector enters its next phase of development. truckandfleetme.com

H
annover will once again become a global centre of the commercial vehicle industry this September as IAA Transportation 2026 brings manufacturers, fleets, technology suppliers and transport professionals together for a close look at where road freight is heading. Yet this year’s event promises something more immediate than a conventional exhibition: visitors will be able to climb aboard, drive new trucks and experience the technology for themselves. The event runs from September 15 to 20, with the organisers placing hands-on experience at the heart of the show. Hall 11 will be particularly important, with MAN Truck & Bus and Volvo Trucks offering test drives directly from their stands. The South Entrance will also open to improve access. For fleets weighing up major investments, that opportunity to compare technologies in real operating conditions could prove more valuable than any specification sheet. Experiencing the driving seat
The expanded test-drive programme reflects a commercial vehicle market that is becoming increasingly diverse. Battery electric trucks are moving into more applications, gas remains relevant, diesel powertrains continue to improve, and hydrogen is being developed for demanding long-haul operations. IAA’s two test routes will reflect that variety. Production vehicles can use public roads, while a roughly two-kilometre closed circuit on the exhibition grounds will allow prototypes to be driven where they are not yet road legal. MAN arrives with one of the broadest electric portfolios on display. Its eTGL, eTGM, eTGS and eTGX families cover 12 to 50 tonnes, giving the manufacturer an electric answer for applications ranging from urban distribution and municipal work to construction and long-distance haulage. The eTGX can already offer up to 570 kilometres without intermediate charging in a typical long-haul semitrailer combination. with charging, energy management and digital services designed around uptime and operating cost. Conventional power is not being left behind. MAN says its new D30 PowerLion powertrain can reduce fuel consumption by up to five per cent compared with its predecessor, while the latest GPS-supported EfficientCruise system with PredictiveDrive can deliver energy or fuel savings of up to 5.5 per cent, rising to as much as nine per cent in challenging terrain. Automatic map updates over the air should further reduce workshop dependence. The message is clear: efficiency is being pursued across the entire fleet, regardless of drivetrain. Safety is another major strand of the MAN display. The latest Emergency Brake Assist Advanced, driver monitoring for distraction and fatigue, enhanced protection for pedestrians and cyclists, blind-spot monitoring and an expanded OptiView digital mirror system all target the twin priorities of protecting road users and limiting costly incidents. MAN is also marking ten years of the TGE van with new personalisation and connectivity features, including Lifetime Connectivity at no additional cost and a new app linking driver and vehicle. Volvo broadens technology choice
Volvo Trucks is taking a similarly broad approach, with eight trucks on display and seven more available for test drives. The headline attraction is the FH Aero Electric with extended range, capable of up to 700 kilometres, while visitors can also drive the new, more fuelefficient D13 engine and a test truck using a hydrogen-powered combustion engine planned for launch before 2030. The line-up underlines Volvo’s argument that decarbonisation will not follow a single route for every fleet. The wider Volvo offering stretches from battery electric through gas to diesel, with the company positioning driveline choice alongside financing, service contracts, digital uptime tools and charging or fuelling infrastructure. More than 2,500 certified workshops and dealers form part of that support network. For operators, the emphasis is therefore on the complete business case: selecting the appropriate JULY – AUGUST 2026 29

power source while maintaining productivity, uptime and driver safety. Volvo also has some substantial milestones to put behind its latest products. It has been Europe’s heavytruck market leader for two consecutive years, in 2024 and 2025, while more than 70,000 FH Aero trucks have been sold. Its battery-electric trucks have collectively passed 450 million kilometres, providing an increasingly large real-world base of operating
experience. The company also points to five-star Euro NCAP safety ratings for all seven of its trucks tested so far. For Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, the value of the Hannover event is the opportunity to move the conversation beyond static displays. “With the test-driving track right by our stand, we want to show our new trucks and drivelines at their best – on the road!” That approach is particularly relevant to fleets that need to assess

how alternative powertrains fit existing routes, payload requirements and operational patterns rather than simply comparing headline range figures. Mercedes-Benz’s electric and hydrogen depth

with either two or three LFP battery packs, it is aimed at high-volume transport where a low fifth-wheel height allows the use of mega trailers and maximises interior loading space. The eActros 400 Lowliner has 414kWh of installed battery capacity, while the eActros 600 Lowliner offers 621kWh. The manufacturer is also using the show as the launch point for an unusual demonstration of electric longhaul capability. Content creator and professional truck driver Tobias Wagner, known as Elektrotrucker, plans to begin an approximately 45,000-kilometre journey around the world in a modified eActros 600. The expedition is expected to cross more than 35 countries with a maximum of 80 charging stops, highlighting both the potential of batteryelectric transport and the infrastructure gaps that still need to be addressed. Hydrogen will provide another strand of the Mercedes-Benz story. The NextGenH2 Truck is designed for longhaul work with liquid hydrogen, a fuel-cell system and a claimed range of more than 1,000 kilometres. Around 100 vehicles are planned for customer operation from the end of 2026, with Dachser set to become the first customer. MercedesBenz will also show developments in diesel power and intersection safety, reinforcing the message that the transition will involve several technologies operating alongside one another. Responsibility and opportunity
Achim Puchert, CEO of MercedesBenz Trucks, says the company sees the event as a responsibility as well as an opportunity: “130 years of trucks mean responsibility to actively shape the future of transport.” That ambition will be tested against the more practical questions facing fleets: range, payload, charging, refuelling, safety and total operating cost. For IAA itself, however, the strongest message may be the decision to put trucks into motion. With MAN and Volvo starting test drives directly from Hall 11, and additional manufacturers using other exhibition-ground routes, the show will give operators a chance to judge technology through experience. That is increasingly important as the industry moves from debating the future of transport to making investment decisions about it. truckandfleetme.com

MAN Truck & Bus has reported an increase in global sales during the first half of 2026, driven by growth across its truck, bus, van and engine businesses, while demand for battery-electric vehicles continued to gain momentum. The company sold around 51,000 units globally during the first six months of the year, representing an 8% increase compared with the same period in 2025. Truck sales reached approximately 32,000 units, up 10%, while bus deliveries rose by 2% to around 3,300 units. Van sales increased by 6% to just under 16,000 units. MAN’s engine business also recorded growth, with sales increasing by 17% to nearly 6,000 units. While demand improved across several European markets, the company noted that Germany, traditionally one of its key markets, remained comparatively weaker. The strongest growth came from EVs, with sales increasing 37% to around 1,100 units, including approximately 600 electric trucks and more than 500 electric buses, reflecting growing customer interest in zero-emission transport solutions. “The sales trend shows that our broad product range is holding its own in a challenging market environment. At the same time, battery-electric vehicles are becoming increasingly important to our customers,” said Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN, which will keep expanding its battery-electric offering in H2 2026, completing its EV portfolio across urban distribution, regional transport and long-haul applications.

The first UAE appearance of the new Zeekr 9X took centre stage throughout the event. The new flagship SUV is positioned as a technology-led luxury model and combines a pure electric architecture with a superhybrid powertrain delivering more than 1,400hp. Zeekr says the vehicle offers a combined driving range exceeding 1,250km and can recharge from 20% to 80% capacity in around nine minutes. “Zeekr Dynamic is how we bring our community together to celebrate everything the brand stands for,” said Ms. Nicole Huang, Head of User Operations at Zeekr. “Five years in, having more than 200 owners with us at Yas Marina Circuit says everything about the strength of Zeekr in this region.” JULY – AUGUST 2026 33
ASSEMBLY
MAN BACK IN MOTION
IN ALGERIA
MAN is reviving local truck assembly in Algeria with long-standing partner Maghreb Truck Company, targeting 1,500 vehicles a year as it strengthens its North African footprint
M
AN Truck & Bus has returned to local production in Algeria in a move it says is about more than reopening an assembly line. It represents a renewed push into one of North Africa’s most strategically important commercial vehicle markets, combining local manufacturing with an established distribution and service network. The German manufacturer has restarted Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) production at the Blida plant in partnership with Maghreb Truck Company (MTC), its 34 JULY – AUGUST 2026
long-standing Algerian partner. The move gives MAN greater flexibility to respond to local demand while strengthening its position in a market where construction, infrastructure development and logistics are creating opportunities for heavy commercial vehicles. The relationship between MAN and MTC stretches back more than two decades. MTC has been the official and exclusive importer for MAN in Algeria since 2003 and has continued to maintain the existing CKD facility even during periods when production was temporarily suspended. That continuity has provided MAN with a ready-made foundation for the

restart. The Blida facility can produce up to eight vehicles per day and incorporates two parallel assembly lines, allowing production to be adjusted according to demand. The facility can assemble both truck and bus chassis, although the current emphasis is on MAN TGS trucks in 4x2, 6x4 and 8x4 configurations, primarily aimed at long-haul applications. The scale of the ambition is clear. MAN is targeting approximately 1,500 vehicles annually in the Algerian market in the medium term, providing a significant step up in local activity while giving the manufacturer a platform for further expansion. truckandfleetme.com
ASSEMBLY
For MAN, local assembly also reinforces a position it has held for decades. The company was the first European commercial vehicle manufacturer to import CKD kits into Algeria and assemble them locally. Restarting production therefore reconnects the current business with an established part of its history in the country, while giving the operation a new role within its wider international growth strategy. “The restart of CKD production in Algeria together with our partner Maghreb Truck Company is an important step in further strengthening our international footprint. By combining our global expertise with strong local partnerships, we are bringing our products closer to our customers and responding even more flexibly to local requirements,” says Friedrich Baumann, Member of the Executive Board for Sales & Customer Solutions, MAN Truck & Bus. The emphasis on flexibility is particularly relevant as fleet operators across North Africa face increasingly varied requirements. The ability to assemble different configurations on two production lines allows the Blida operation to adjust its output according to market conditions rather than relying entirely on imported, fully built vehicles. It also brings the manufacturer closer to its customers. CKD production allows vehicles to be shipped as individual components before being assembled in the destination market, providing potential economic and regulatory benefits while supporting greater local value creation.
We are well positioned to serve the Algerian market with locally assembled, highquality vehicles tailored to customer needs”
as an important growth region for commercial vehicle manufacturers, with demand being driven by infrastructure investment, logistics activity and construction projects. Restarting production in Blida is therefore being accompanied by investment beyond the assembly operation itself. MAN has introduced targeted improvements in infrastructure and production processes, while also conducting technical training for local employees. The objective is to ensure that vehicles assembled in Algeria meet MAN’s global quality requirements while developing a deeper pool of local manufacturing expertise. That combination of international standards and local skills is central to the company’s strategy. For customers, local assembly can offer greater responsiveness, while for the wider market it can support employment, technical development and regional value creation. MTC provides another important part of that equation. With around 250 employees, including a dedicated 50-person team at the Blida CKD facility, the company has an established operational base from which to support the production restart. Its presence extends well beyond manufacturing. MTC operates its headquarters and main workshop in Algiers, supported by service facilities in Oran, Sétif and Laghouat. The network gives MAN coverage across
key parts of the country and provides an established aftersales infrastructure for fleets operating in demanding applications. “We are proud to further strengthen our long-standing partnership with MAN through the restart of CKD production in Blida. Building on more than 20 years of successful collaboration, we are well positioned to serve the Algerian market with locally assembled, high-quality vehicles tailored to customer needs,” said Nabil Salhi, CEO of Maghreb Truck Company. The return to CKD production also reflects a broader shift in the commercial vehicle industry. As manufacturers expand internationally, simply exporting vehicles is increasingly being complemented by local assembly, technical training and partnerships designed to create a longer-term presence. For MAN, the Blida restart brings those elements together. The company now has a production facility capable of adapting to demand, a partner with more than 20 years of market experience and a service network covering major Algerian regions. The immediate target is 1,500 vehicles a year. The longer-term objective, however, is broader: to turn local production into a foundation for sustainable growth in Algeria and strengthen MAN’s position across a North African market where demand for trucks and buses is expected to continue evolving.
Local production ecosystem
For MAN, the CKD model is increasingly being used as a way of combining global manufacturing expertise with local capabilities. Rather than treating assembly as an isolated manufacturing activity, the company sees local production as part of a broader ecosystem involving partners, employees, service networks and customers. MAN currently operates a global network of CKD facilities and works with local partners in markets including Algeria, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Morocco, Kenya and Uzbekistan. The approach allows the company to establish a physical presence in markets where local production can support long-term commercial development. Algeria is particularly significant because of the scale of its transport, construction and infrastructure sectors. North Africa is emerging truckandfleetme.com

WHAT UAE RIDE-HAILERS
REALLY WANT
Convenience, reliability and transparency are now defining ride-hailing, with technology helping operators meet the evolving expectations of UAE commuters, says Yango Ride
R
ide-hailing has become part of everyday movement across the UAE, supporting journeys to offices, airports, shopping destinations and public transport hubs. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority reported that public transport, shared mobility and taxis served 802.1 million riders in 2025, showing the scale of demand for connected urban transport. That scale has raised

passenger expectations, and they judge a ride before the vehicle arrives. Yango Ride, the ride-hailing service and part of global tech company Yango Group, identifies the five key expectations that influence ride-booking decisions across the UAE. Reliability and convenience when time is limited

connecting with public transport need accurate arrival estimates and routes that respond to changing road conditions. Yango Ride uses AI to process road layouts, traffic patterns and predicted congestion, helping calculate efficient routes and improve estimates as more trips are completed. The technology also supports smarter order distribution, which can reduce the distance drivers travel without passengers and improve vehicle availability. scheduling or adding an intermediate stop without restarting the booking. When each stage connects clearly, the passenger spends less time managing the booking and more time focusing on the journey. Service that understands local needs
Car options that reflect different journeys
The UAE’s diverse population brings equally varied transport needs, shaped by family size, daily routines and personal preferences. A parent travelling with a young child may look for an appropriate car seat, while larger families or airport passengers may need more room for people and luggage. Environmental considerations are also influencing everyday choices, with some residents preferring hybrid or electric vehicles where available. Ride-hailing services can respond by offering clear car type options that help passengers choose according to the purpose of each journey. Yango Ride supports this through services such as its Kids category, which includes a child safety seat, while electric and hybrid vehicles account for 84% of its partner fleet in Dubai.
The UAE combines different emirates, transport systems and daily travel patterns within one highly connected market. A useful ride-hailing service must respond to local regulations and established transport networks instead of applying the same

model everywhere. Yango Ride works with local transportation providers and adapts its technology to each market’s operating environment. This also includes recognising airport travel patterns, peak commuting periods and the expectations attached to different ride categories. This approach can support suitable ride options, stronger integration with existing taxi services and booking features that reflect local routines. Residents ultimately value a service that feels familiar, dependable and designed around the cities where they live.
Transparent pricing with no unexpected changes
Price remains central to the booking decision, particularly for residents who use ride-hailing several times each week. Passengers want to see an expected fare before confirming and understand any factors that could affect the final amount. Clear pricing helps people compare available options and select a ride category that suits their budget. Transparency should continue after booking, especially when passengers add a stop or change their destination. A clear digital record of the journey and payment also makes expense tracking easier for personal and business travel.
LOCALISED MOBILITY NEEDS Ride hailers in the UAE are looking for services that are tailored to their needs and to the cities where they live, besides being dependable and transparent.
A smooth customer experience from booking to arrival
Residents expect the app experience to reduce effort at every stage. The pick-up point should be easy to confirm, the driver’s arrival should be visible, and communication should remain straightforward. Payment and trip records should also be available without requiring additional steps after arrival. A well-designed service anticipates common difficulties, such as locating a driver in a crowded mall entrance or arranging transport for another person. Drone home deliveries to take off in Dubai as Sobha Realty and Keeta Drone tell Jason Saundalkar how they are teaming up to roll out aerial services within Sobha’s communities
A
s air delivery ecosystems inch forward from planning to execution across several cities globally, this modern logistics breakthrough is picking up pace in Dubai. Global luxury developer and one of the biggest names in the regional real estate sector, Sobha Realty, has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Keeta Drone, the green air delivery arm of the popular home delivery app. The MoU aims to introduce nextgeneration air delivery across Sobha’s integrated communities and was signed between the two parties in the presence of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA). It’s aim: to mark a significant step forward in redefining how logistics and mobility are seamlessly integrated within premium residential environments. 38 JULY – AUGUST 2026
Through the partnership, Sobha Realty became Keeta Drone’s first official Smart Community partner in the UAE, a move which is expected to reinforce the developer’s focus on embedding future-ready infrastructure and sustainable technologies into its developments. Sobha Realty said that the collaboration will be implemented in phases, with all activations operating within governmentapproved frameworks, underscoring both organisations’ commitment to safety, compliance and responsible innovation. Both Keeta Drone and Sobha Realty have stated that they plan to explore opportunities beyond the UAE as Keeta Drone’s deployment roadmap grows and Sobha Realty continues its international expansion. delivery service in Shenzhen, China, in 2021. By December 2024 the company was operating 53 routes in major Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Guangzhou, and had completed over 400,000 deliveries. The service has reportedly spanned a variety of locations, including offices, residential areas, tourist spots, parks, campuses and libraries, and offered customers a selection of over 90,000 products. The company’s drone logistics system includes autonomous aerial drones, an intelligent dispatch system, and an efficient operational framework, creating an urban low-altitude logistics solution adaptable to various scenarios and weather conditions, Keeta Drone says. design, engineering, construction, and delivery sit within one integrated ecosystem, we can evaluate how emerging technologies such as autonomous air delivery can be embedded thoughtfully into the community fabric, rather than retrofitted at a later stage. Across developments, the objective is to create adaptable, future-ready communities aligned with the UAE’s smart city ambitions. Any drone delivery infrastructure would be introduced progressively, subject to technical feasibility, resident value, and government-approved safety frameworks.
What was the driver for Sobha Realty to partner with Keeta Drone for air deliveries across its communities? Francis Alfred: The key driver was Sobha Realty’s ambition to move beyond traditional residential development and create futureready communities where infrastructure, technology, mobility, and resident convenience work together seamlessly. As cities become denser and resident expectations evolve, last-mile delivery is becoming an important part of how communities function day-to-day. Sobha sees autonomous air delivery as a natural extension of smart community living, supporting faster, more efficient and potentially lower-impact services within integrated residential environments. The partnership also aligns with Sobha’s long-term approach to value creation. Rather than treating technology as an add-on, Sobha aims to embed future-ready infrastructure into the community planning process itself. Sobha’s Backward Integration model gives the company greater control over design, infrastructure readiness, operational coordination and scalability, which is critical when introducing advanced systems such as drone-enabled logistics.

communities – will new community masterplans and building designs be adapted to allow for drone deliveries? FA: Yes, future-ready infrastructure is already
a key consideration in how we approach master planning, and drone-enabled logistics will be assessed as part of that broader smart community framework. At Sobha Realty, new masterplans and building designs are not developed only for current residential needs, but with the flexibility to accommodate future technologies as they evolve. This includes planning for infrastructure that can support smarter mobility, logistics, service access, safety requirements, and community operations over the long term. Our Backward Integration model gives us a clear advantage in this regard. Because

in the UAE or will this now be done in Sobha Hartland? Junwei Yang: We’ve been operating commercially in Dubai since December 2024, when we became the first operator to secure a Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) commercial licence from the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, the first such certification awarded in the UAE. Since then, we’ve run routes across Dubai Silicon Oasis and Nad Al Sheba regions of Dubai. Worldwide, we have completed 900,000+ flights. In Dubai, Sobha Hartland marks the next phase, where we are for the first time embedding this proven capability directly into a private residential community, as Sobha Realty becomes our first Smart Community partner in the UAE.
When is the anticipated rollout of this service in Sobha Hartland and other Sobha communities in the UAE? How many actual drones are expected to serve Sobha Hartland? FA: The rollout is expected to be introduced
in phases across Sobha Realty’s integrated communities in Dubai, with the first phase anticipated to begin in Sobha Hartland. This is because Sobha Hartland already has the scale, infrastructure readiness and operational ecosystem required to support autonomous air delivery integration, serving a growing resident population of approximately 20,000. At this stage, the number of drones allocated to Sobha Hartland has not been confirmed. This will likely be determined as part of the phased implementation plan, in coordination with Keeta Drone and within government-approved frameworks. The priority is to ensure the service is introduced responsibly, with safety, compliance, resident experience and operational readiness guiding the rollout. truckandfleetme.com

T
oyota Motor Corporation, Volvo Group, Daimler Truck AG and cellcentric have signed a binding agreement for Toyota to join the fuel cell specialist as an equal partner and shareholder. Subject to regulatory approvals, each company will hold a one-third stake, with completion expected around the end of 2026 or early 2027. The agreement formalises a non-binding deal announced in March and marks a significant step in the partners’ strategy to scale fuel cell technology for commercial vehicles and other demanding applications. By combining Toyota’s fuel cell expertise with the commercial vehicle experience of Volvo Group and Daimler Truck, the companies aim to strengthen cellcentric’s technological position, industrial scale and competitiveness. Founded in 2021 as a joint venture between Daimler Truck and Volvo Group, cellcentric
will remain an independent and autonomous company following the transaction. It will continue developing, producing and commercialising fuel cell systems for heavy-duty on-road and offroad transport, while also targeting applications including coaches, marine, rail, stationary power generation and heavy off-highway equipment. The partners also intend to work with industry associations and companies across the hydrogen value chain to support the development of hydrogen supply and refuelling infrastructure. The aim is to help build the wider ecosystem required to make hydrogen-powered transport commercially viable at scale. Cellcentric currently employs more than 560 people across facilities in Germany and Canada and holds roughly 700 individual patents related to fuel cell technology. The company aims to become a global manufacturer and Tier 1 supplier of fuel cell systems, contributing to
the decarbonisation of heavy-duty transport. While the three shareholders will collaborate through cellcentric, they will continue to compete independently across their respective businesses outside the joint venture. The formal agreement comes as manufacturers face growing pressure to develop zero-emission solutions capable of meeting the range, payload and operational demands of heavy-duty transport. Fuel cells are being positioned alongside batteryelectric drivetrains as a potential pathway for applications where long operating ranges, rapid refuelling and high utilisation are critical. With Toyota’s entry still subject to regulatory clearance, the expanded partnership is expected to provide cellcentric with greater technological depth and resources as it works to industrialise fuel cell systems for a broader global market across increasingly demanding regional and global operating environments.
