These are interesting times in Middle East’s construction ecosystem, including of course the world of construction equipment, which is the foundational block of that ecosystem. With the region remaining at the centre of global geopolitics, in which it has been these past few months, what looked like a promising upswing in construction activity around this time last year has been somewhat arrested and is looking to kick start again.
My experience in chronicling the industry over several years tells me that when clouds of uncertainty hover in the skies above us, the industry battens down its hatches and tries to ride it out. Yet, this time, it’s different.
And we saw this at the Construction Machinery Middle East Awards 2026 in June – the presence of the entire regional equipment industry in large numbers at CMME’s annual awards was testimony that hope remains high and we are already treating the events that began on February 28th as a temporary hiccup.
CMME has long been the publication of record the Middle East’s equipment sector, and our awards – the only one of its kind in the region - have sought to uphold and acknowledge the best that the industry offers. It is a testimony to how well our awards have been received over the years that not only was the turnout high this year, but that we were inundated with nominations in almost all the categories, and our team had a tough time sifting through over a hundred to arrive at the winners.
We dedicate this issue to those winners and bring you details about the manpower, machines, makers and milestones that shone brightly at our awards this year.
Despite the pressures of recent times, we were extremely heartened by the response from the industry, and we take it as vindication of our efforts to uphold a standard of excellence at CMME in the way we serve the industry as its regional mouthpieceand as the first and only award of its kind in the region.
The summer is usually soporific in the Middle East, with operators and equipment both going into forced hibernations due to the heat – but in other parts of the world with more salubrious climes, summer is the season for renewal. Such as with Bobcat at its EMEA headquarters near Prague, or with Volvo CE at its global HQ in Eskilstuna, Sweden. Elsewhere in this issue, we bring you highlights from the brand showcases of these two companies as they went about displaying their prowess at Demo Days and Volvo Days respectively, with new models and technologies that are positioned as the winners of tomorrow.
But it’s the winners of today that the centre stage belongs to now. We thank the industry for supporting the CMME Awards this year as we look forward to the next one. And to all award recipients, many congratulations!

Saudi Readymix has become the first company in Saudi Arabia to deploy a fully battery-electric wheel loader, marking a milestone in the Kingdom’s transition towards lower-emission construction equipment and demonstrating the growing viability of electric heavy machinery in demanding operating conditions.
Supplied by XCMG Saudi Arabia, the electric wheel loader has been operating successfully at Saudi Readymix facilities, where it has been tested in some of the region’s harshest working environments. According to XCMG, the machine has maintained reliable performance through the 2025 and 2026 summer seasons, withstanding temperatures exceeding 50°C while meeting the productivity requirements of ready-mix concrete operations.
The deployment is significant because it provides one of the first real-world demonstrations of battery-electric
construction equipment operating under the extreme climatic conditions typical of Saudi Arabia. Concerns over battery performance, reliability and operating efficiency in high temperatures have often been cited as barriers to wider adoption of electric machinery in the region.
XCMG said the wheel loader has helped reduce fuel consumption and maintenance costs compared with conventional dieselpowered machines, while maintaining the performance required for daily operations. The company added that the lower operating costs contribute to a more competitive total cost of ownership and a stronger return on investment for customers considering electric equipment.
The successful operation of the machine is expected to strengthen confidence in battery-electric construction equipment as contractors and fleet operators across the Kingdom seek to reduce emissions while improving efficiency.

POWER THAT PAYS
The redevelopment of 1 Victoria Street is transforming the site of a former 1960s office building into a modern, sustainable, low-carbon workplace in the heart of Westminster. A defining feature of the project is the retention of around 52 percent of the existing structure and foundations, eliminating the need for new piling and significantly reducing embodied carbon.
This sustainable approach, however, created an unusual engineering challenge: WOLFF tower cranes had to be installed at basement level on foundations more than 60 years old. The crane concept spans several construction phases and includes a total of nine WOLFF cranes.

The project began with demolition works by Keltbray, supported by a WOLFF 355 B luffing jib crane. Its compact design and high lifting capacity made it ideal for the confined site, handling heavy equipment including excavators, tracked loaders, dumpers, generators and structural steel.
Following demolition, Mace Construct began the next phase using four additional WOLFF cranes - one WOLFF 166 B and three WOLFF 355 Bs. These were installed at basement level to support construction of the concrete core and the early superstructure.
The five cranes also played a vital role in the slipforming process, which requires continuous concrete placement only made possible by precise coordination.
Installing the cranes on the existing foundations demanded careful planning.
Because the demolition crane remained in service longer than expected, one crane was initially erected at reduced height before later being climbed to its full 50-metre working height.
As new foundations could not be constructed, each crane had to be positioned directly above existing support points, with configurations adapted to the original structural layout. To achieve this, WOLFFKRAN used its flexible cross-frame system, which allows each support leg to be individually adjusted between 6 metres and 10m.
On one crane, four different leg lengths were required within a single base to align with the available
support points, demonstrating the system’s ability to adapt to complex legacy structures.
The final challenge will come during dismantling. As the basement slabs are cast around the crane bases, conventional mobile cranes cannot be used. Instead, ceiling hoists, low-level forklifts and skating systems will remove the ballast and cross-frames before all components are transported out of the building.
In late 2026, four further WOLFF luffing jib cranes will be installed on the roof to support construction of the upper floors, façade and building services.
The development is scheduled for completion in early 2028 and stands as one of WOLFFKRAN’s most technically demanding projects in central London.

Compact equipment may occupy less space on a job-site than larger counterparts, but its importance to modern construction continues to grow. From urban infrastructure and utilities to landscaping, road building and material handling, contractors increasingly rely on compact machines that combine versatility, productivity and low operating costs.
Against this backdrop, Bobcat welcomed customers, dealers and media from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa to its annual Demo Days event at the company’s regional headquarters in Dobris, Czechia. Now in its 15th year, the event has evolved from a product demonstration into a major customer engagement programme, allowing visitors to operate machines under realistic working conditions.
This year’s event shifted focus from the mini excavator range, which featured prominently in 2025, to the latest developments across Bobcat’s loader
portfolio. More than 90 machines, supported by over 250 attachments and accessories, were available for demonstrations covering construction, demolition, agriculture, forestry, landscaping, grading, earthmoving and material handling.
“It has been 15 years since we started Demo Days and they have proved to be must-visit events for our Bobcat dealers and their customers to try out a wide selection of machines and different types of attachments in working conditions. They continue to provide the ideal occasions for Bobcat and its customers from all around EMEA to build even closer relationships,” said Katinka Kincses, Bobcat Product Manager for Loaders.
The headline announcement at Demo Days 2026 was the new R-Series Evolution compact loaders, representing the next stage in one of Bobcat’s most successful product families.
Rather than completely redesigning its loader range, Bobcat has focused on continuous evolution, introducing improvements in performance, operator

comfort, digital technology and durability while retaining the characteristics that have made its compact loaders popular around the world.
The range includes three skid-steer loaders – the S66-2, S76-2 and S86-2 – and three compact track loaders – the T662, T76-2 and T86-2. The “-2” designation reflects a new development approach that will allow technologies and performance upgrades to be introduced more frequently.
Among the major upgrades is a new 115hp engine for the flagship S86-2 and T862 models, delivering additional capability for heavy material handling, site preparation and attachment-intensive applications.
The new generation also introduces an 8-inch touchscreen display combining machine settings, diagnostics and integrated technologies in a more intuitive interface. Four selectable drive modes allow operators to tailor machine response to different tasks.
Selected models now offer lift heights of up to 3.7 metres, while improvements in durability and uptime address the growing demands placed on compact equipment.
Compact loaders have evolved significantly. Machines once considered support equipment are now expected to perform demanding roles on construction sites. Their ability to work in confined spaces, transport materials, power hydraulic

attachments and undertake multiple tasks with one machine has made them essential across many sectors.
That versatility remains central to Bobcat’s offering. With more than 250 compatible attachments demonstrated during Demo Days, visitors could see how one loader can perform duties ranging from trenching and grading to sweeping, demolition, lifting and forestry operations.
The Bob-Tach attachment mounting system continues to support this approach, allowing operators to change attachments quickly while maintaining compatibility
“It has been 15 years since we started Demo Days and they have proved to be must-visit events”

across much of the Bobcat range. For Middle East contractors, where utilisation is often a key investment factor, the ability to complete multiple tasks with one carrier remains a significant advantage for commercial operations.
Alongside the R-Series Evolution models, Bobcat introduced the T650 compact track loader to European Stage V markets. Manufactured at Dobris, the T650 has been developed to meet emissions requirements while retaining the simplicity and reliability expected by customers. Powered by a 2.4-litre Bobcat engine producing 74hp, it achieves Stage V compliance without requiring AdBlue, reducing complexity for operators and fleet managers.
The T650 offers a rated operating capacity of 1,192kg and a vertical lift path suited to truck loading, pallet handling and general construction duties. Durability features include a robust steel frame, efficient cooling package, optional highflow hydraulics and Machine IQ telematics as standard. The system enables contractors to monitor machine location, utilisation and maintenance requirements.
Bobcat also launched the MT120 mini track loader atthe event, extending its presence in a segment driven by demand from landscaping, construction and ground maintenance professionals.
Despite its compact size, the MT120 delivers a maximum tipping load of 1,573kg and breakout forces suited to everyday applications. Measuring 91cm wide, it can access narrow spaces while operating with low ground pressure.
With a lift height of 2.24 metres and reach of 56cm, the machine bridges the gap between pedestrian equipment and larger compact loaders. Its integrated operator platform improves visibility, while intuitive controls support precision during loading and material handling. A diesel particulate filter-free engine, direct-drive system and maintenance-free rollers and bushings help reduce servicing requirements. Compatibility with more than 20 attachment categories further increases versatility.
Bobcat is increasingly integrating digital technologies into its machines, recognising that fleet management has become as important as machine performance. Machine IQ telematics provides owners with operational data including location, utilisation, service intervals and maintenance alerts. As contractors manage larger fleets across multiple sites, access to this information can help reduce downtime and improve maintenance planning.
The touchscreen displays and enhanced controls on the R-Series Evolution models reflect the growing influence of digital interfaces in construction equipment, giving operators simpler access to machine functions while supporting more efficient fleet management.
The continued success of Demo Days reflects a simple philosophy: equipment performs best when customers can experience it under realistic working conditions. Unlike conventional exhibitions where machines are often displayed behind barriers, Demo Days allows visitors to operate equipment across dedicated demonstration areas designed to replicate real-world applications.
The approach is particularly valuable in compact equipment, where balance, hydraulic response, visibility and operator comfort can influence purchasing decisions as much as specifications.
The event also provides Bobcat with direct feedback from operators, contractors and fleet owners across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Engineers, product specialists and dealers use these discussions to understand how machines perform in different applications.
Bobcat’s Dobříš facility is both its EMEA headquarters and a major manufacturing centre, producing compact loaders and other equipment for international markets. Demonstrating products at the factory highlights the company’s regional manufacturing capabilities. Although many machines unveiled at Demo Days

attachments allows contractors to maximise utilisation while reducing investment in specialist equipment.
Bobcat’s focus on operator comfort, digital connectivity and simplified maintenance also reflects changing priorities in the region. Contractors increasingly seek machines that reduce costs, improve productivity and address shortages of experienced operators. Rather than pursuing radical redesigns, Bobcat’s continuous evolution strategy focuses on practical improvements. Gains in engine performance, hydraulic efficiency, operator interfaces and serviceability contribute to lower ownership costs and improved productivity over the lifecycle of the machine.
“(The Demo Days) continue to provide the ideal occasions for Bobcat and its customers”
were developed for European Stage V requirements, the technologies introduced are relevant to contractors across the Middle East.
Compact equipment continues to grow in importance as GCC markets invest in urban regeneration, transport infrastructure, utilities and mixed-use developments. Where access is restricted or multiple trades operate simultaneously, compact loaders provide flexibility that larger machines cannot.

Rather than radical redesigns, Bobcat’s continuous evolution strategy focuses on practical improvements for lower ownership costs and improved productivity over the lifecycle of the machine.
Building on a strong legacy Demo Days 2026 demonstrated that Bobcat remains focused on the compact equipment segment that has defined the company for more than six decades. The introduction of the R-Series Evolution loaders, T650 compact track loader and MT120 mini track loader illustrates a strategy centred on practical innovation rather than technology for its own sake.
Combined with investment in manufacturing, digital technologies and customer engagement, Bobcat aims to meet changing contractor expectations for productivity, connectivity and reliability.
After several years, Demo Days has become more than an annual product launch. It represents Bobcat’s wider strategy of combining engineering development with customer collaboration and a clear understanding of how compact equipment is changing modern construction across global construction markets today.
The headline launch at Demo Days 2026 was the Bobcat R-Series Evolution loader family, representing the next stage in the development of skid-steer and compact track loaders. Bobcat has refined six models – the S66-2, S76-2 and S862 skid-steer loaders together with the T66-2, T76-2 and T86-2 compact track loaders –through continuous engineering improvements. The S86-2 and T86-2 feature a 115hp engine, providing additional performance
for demanding attachments and heavy-duty material handling. Lift heights of up to 3.7 metres further expand their versatility.
A new 8-inch touchscreen display gives operators easier access to machine settings, diagnostics and integrated technologies, while four drive modes allow performance to be adjusted for different conditions.
For Middle East contractors, the R-Series Evolution range addresses key requirements: high utilisation, reduced
downtime, operator comfort and flexibility. Combined with Bobcat’s attachment range and Bob-Tach™ system, the loaders are designed for construction, infrastructure, landscaping and municipal applications. Rather than reinventing the compact loader, Bobcat has refined it, delivering improvements in performance, technology and productivity while retaining the versatility that has made its machines a benchmark in the sector.

For Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), Volvo Days has always been more than a product showcase. Held in Eskilstuna, Sweden, the company’s flagship customer and media event provides an opportunity to demonstrate not only its latest machines but also the strategic direction underpinning the business.
This year’s event was the biggest in Volvo Days’ history, welcoming
a record number of customers, dealers, rental partners and journalists from around the world. Under the theme “Smarter Solutions. Driven by You”., Volvo CE presented a business that is evolving from a traditional equipment manufacturer into a provider of integrated solutions that combine machines, digital technologies, electrification and customer support.
That message was evident throughout the demonstrations. Alongside a wide range of new excavators, articulated haulers, compact
machines and electric equipment, visitors were introduced to Volvo CE’s expanding Site Solutions portfolio, enhanced service offering and significant investments in manufacturing and retail operations.
The common thread running through every announcement was customer proximity.
“Volvo Days is about showing, not telling,” said Melker Jernberg, President of Volvo CE. “In an increasingly complex world, we have made clear choices about where to focus and invest. What we are demonstrating here is how those decisions

VOLVO CE USES VOLVO DAYS 2026 TO DEMONSTRATE THAT ITS TRANSFORMATION EXTENDS BEYOND NEW MACHINES, HIGHLIGHTING HOW IT IS USING DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES AND ELECTRIFICATION TO RESHAPE THE EQUIPMENT LANDSCAPE
translate into real impact for our customers, as we move closer to their operations, respond faster, and strengthen resilience in an uncertain environment.”
Construction equipment manufacturers are increasingly judged on far more than the performance of individual machines. Fleet uptime, digital connectivity, predictive maintenance, financing, operator support and sustainability have become central purchasing considerations.
Volvo CE’s strategy reflects this shift. Rather than presenting individual products in isolation, the company positioned its latest launches as components of a wider ecosystem designed to improve productivity, reduce operating costs and simplify fleet management.
Site Solutions occupied a prominent place on the Volvo Days agenda for the first time, illustrating how connected machines, telematics and data analytics are becoming integral to modern construction projects. By combining machine data
with operational insights, contractors can monitor utilisation, optimise fuel consumption, improve maintenance planning and make more informed decisions across entire worksites.
This increasingly integrated approach is particularly relevant for large contractors managing complex infrastructure, quarrying and mining operations, where equipment performance must be measured across the whole production cycle rather than on individual machine efficiency alone.
Volvo CE has also sharpened its focus on industry-specific applications, recognising that customer requirements differ significantly between construction, quarrying, aggregates and mining. Tailoring machines, attachments, digital services and support packages to these individual sectors allows customers to optimise productivity while reducing total cost of ownership.
Hanna Ihnatovich, Head of Region International, comments: “Across international markets, our customers face very different realities. Our role is to be a trusted partner, helping them navigate change with the right mix of machines, technologies, and services.”
That message resonates strongly in regions such as the Middle East, where contractors often operate across diverse applications ranging from major infrastructure developments and urban expansion to large-scale quarrying and mining projects.
Perhaps the most visible evidence of Volvo CE’s transformation is the scale of its product renewal programme.
The company says it has introduced around 80 new or updated machine models in recent years, alongside a 50% refresh of its service portfolio. Nearly 16,000 examples of its latest-generation machines are now operating worldwide, delivering
“In an increasingly complex world, we have made clear choices about where to focus and invest”

improvements in productivity, efficiency and operating costs.
Volvo Days provided the stage for several important European debuts. Among the highlights were the ECR255 and ECR355 shortswing crawler excavators, designed to deliver the performance of conventional excavators while offering improved manoeuvrability on space-constrained jobsites. They were joined by the compact ECR90, EC65 and EW65, while the larger EC560 crawler excavator demonstrated Volvo’s continuing focus on heavy-duty earthmoving applications.

breadth of the display reflected Volvo CE’s intention to serve customers across the full construction spectrum, from compact urban projects through to large infrastructure developments and extractive industries such as mining..
Electrification also featured prominently. Visitors saw the A40 Electric articulated hauler, now entering serial production alongside the A30 Electric, demonstrating how battery-electric technology is beginning to move beyond compact equipment into heavier applications. The EWR150 Electric wheeled excavator further highlighted Volvo CE’s growing portfolio of zero-emission machines.
While battery-electric equipment is likely to see its fastest adoption in urban construction and environmentally sensitive sites, Volvo CE recognises that different regions will transition at different speeds. For many Middle East customers, dieselpowered machines remain essential, but electrification is increasingly becoming an option for selected applications where emissions, noise and operating costs are key considerations.
Rather than promoting electrification as a universal solution, Volvo CE presented it as one element within a broader technology strategy that allows customers to choose the most appropriate solution for their operations and purposes.
The announcements at Volvo Days extended well beyond new equipment. Volvo CE revealed how significant investments in manufacturing and retail operations are intended to improve resilience, reduce lead times and strengthen customer support.
The company’s SEK9.2 billion investment programme across Europe includes SEK702 million for a new excavator assembly facility in Eskilstuna, scheduled to begin production in 2028. Once fully operational, the plant will manufacture up to 3,500 excavators annually, marking the first time Volvo CE has built excavators in Sweden.
The investment reflects a wider industry trend towards regional manufacturing, helping reduce supply chain risk while bringing production closer to customers.
Carl Slotte, Head of Region Europe, said: “Eskilstuna is a powerful symbol of our commitment to Europe. By investing closer to our customers, we are strengthening our ability to respond faster, collaborate more closely, and support them in staying competitive in a rapidly changing market.”
Equally significant is Volvo CE’s acquisition of Swecon, one of its largest dealer organisations. Bringing around 70% of its European retail operations under direct ownership gives Volvo CE closer control of customer relationships, aftermarket support and service delivery.
For contractors, the implications extend beyond equipment sales. Closer integration between manufacturing, distribution and aftersales support has the potential to improve parts availability, accelerate service response times and strengthen lifecycle support.
The construction equipment market remains highly competitive, with manufacturers investing heavily in new technologies while navigating economic uncertainty, supply chain challenges and evolving sustainability requirements.
Against that backdrop, Volvo Days 2026 suggested that Volvo CE’s competitive advantage will depend as much on its ability to integrate products, services and customer support as on the capabilities of individual machines.
The company is betting that customers increasingly value complete solutions that improve fleet productivity, simplify operations and reduce ownership costs over the entire machine lifecycle.
That strategy appears particularly relevant for international markets, where customers face different regulatory environments, labour shortages and infrastructure demands.
By combining new-generation machines with digital services, enhanced retail capability and expanded manufacturing capacity, Volvo CE said that it is positioning itself to respond more quickly to those changing requirements.
Volvo Days 2026 was all about Volvo demonstrating how strategic investments were beginning to deliver in the form of individual products and tangible technologies that work for customer requirements.
From investment to impact
Volvo Days 2026 was ultimately less about announcing individual products than demonstrating how years of strategic investment are beginning to deliver tangible results.
The event illustrated a company that is investing simultaneously in manufacturing capacity, dealer networks, connected technologies, electrification and customer relationships. Together, these initiatives represent a broader transformation in how Volvo CE intends to compete over the coming decade.
For customers, the message was clear: productivity will increasingly depend not only on the machine itself, but on the ecosystem of digital services, lifecycle support and operational expertise surrounding it.
As Jernberg noted at the opening of the event, Volvo Days was about “showing, not telling”. Judging by the breadth of announcements in Eskilstuna, Volvo CE believes it has moved beyond outlining its strategy to demonstrating how that strategy is already taking shape on jobsites around the world.

One of the standout machines making its European debut at Volvo Days 2026 was the Volvo ECR255 short-swing crawler excavator, designed to deliver high performance where working space is limited.
The ECR255 combines a reduced tail swing with the lifting capability and digging performance expected from a conventional 25-tonne excavator. This makes it particularly well suited to urban infrastructure, road construction, utilities and confined quarry operations, where operators frequently work close to buildings, traffic or existing structures.
Compared with the previous generation, Volvo CE says the machine offers improved lifting performance, lower fuel consumption and enhanced operator comfort. A redesigned hydraulic system provides smoother, faster operation while helping reduce fuel use, supporting lower operating costs over the machine’s lifecycle.
The excavator also incorporates Volvo’s latest digital technologies, including advanced telematics and machine connectivity, enabling fleet managers to monitor utilisation, maintenance requirements and operating efficiency remotely.
Inside the cab, operators benefit from improved visibility, a quieter working environment and an updated user interface designed to reduce fatigue during long shifts.
For the Middle East, where infrastructure development, utilities and urban expansion continue to generate demand for versatile earthmovers, the ECR255 can offer a balance between compact dimensions and heavy capability. Its efficiency in restricted spaces without sacrificing productivity reflects the growing demand for machines with greater flexibility across a wider applications.

DESIGNED FOR INCREASED TRACTION, POWER AND PAYLOAD, WITH NEW KOMATSU DBA127 ENGINE FOR EXCEPTIONAL POWER, TORQUE AND FUEL EFFICIENCY
Komatsu has introduced the HM460-6 articulated haul truck, a next-generation model designed to improve productivity, efficiency and control in demanding quarry, construction, mining and infrastructure applications.
Replacing the HM400-5, the HM460-6 has been developed around customer feedback, with a focus on higher payload capacity, improved fuel efficiency and consistent performance across challenging terrain. The truck can carry up to 46. 3tons, compared with 44.2t for its predecessor, allowing move more material per cycle and reduced cost per tonne.
Power comes from Komatsu’s new DBA127 engine, which produces 518 gross horsepower at 1,700/rpm. Equipped with a two-stage turbocharger system, the engine is designed to deliver strong low-speed torque, improved acceleration and better hill-climbing
capability while reducing fuel consumption. The engine also eliminates the need for an exhaust gas recirculation system and supports longer service intervals. It is paired with a new nine-speed Komatsu transmission featuring intelligent gear control to optimise performance and efficiency.
A key feature of the HM460-6 is the Komatsu Traction Control System, which works with cross-axle and inter-axle differential locks to maintain grip on soft, uneven and muddy ground. By monitoring wheel slip and automatically applying brake force when required, the system helps reduce tyre wear, minimise material spillage and maintain steady travel on difficult haul roads.
The truck’s redesigned operator cab improves visibility and comfort, with a fourpillar design increasing glass area by 16% and reducing blind spots by 43% compared with the HM400-5. Updated controls, an 8-inch machine monitor and a 10-inch sub-monitor provide operators with easier access to payload information, machine data and camera views. Operator-assist features include cruise control, automatic retard speed control, hillstart assist and a rollover prevention system designed to improve safety on steep grades.

The operator or maintenance staff should visually inspect all tyres on the equipment daily before starting work for the day. Check the condition of valve stems and valve caps. Look for cuts, cracks, and irregular wear on both the tread and tyre shoulders. It’s important to find issues early, as lesscostly repairs may be possible at this time rather than using a tyre with issues. A major problem may result, requiring replacement.

MAINTAIN PROPER PRESSURE
Incorrect tyre pressure will slow your equipment down in its work cycle. On loaders, low front tyre pressures promote excessive side-to-side motion as the boom is raised, leading to slower cycle times. Higher-thanrequired rear tyre pressures contribute to poor fore-aft stability and slow cycle times. On dumpers, low tyre pressure will increase the contact patch area, leading to more wear and tear, as well as higher fuel consumption.
For wheeled loaders, tell operators to use the hydraulics to crowd material when filling the bucket. Relying mainly on the machine’s forward motion to fill the bucket increases the likelihood of losing traction and spinning tyres for faster wear.
03 02
The default tyre pressures in your operator’s manual may not be right for the material you’re loading. Refer to your tyre manufacturer’s load/pressure tables or contact your equipment dealer for proper inflation pressure by application. Proper inflation provides a high level of traction and longer tyre life by maintaining the optimal contact area between the tyre and ground.

05 08
Removing water from operating surfaces can be tough to accomplish but limiting the amount of water your loaders or dumpers run in can improve tyre life. Water acts as a lubricant that makes it easier for objects to cut or puncture tyres. Try to limit using your wheeled equipment in wet conditions, or where that is not possible, try to set up a job-site where water drains away and does not accumulate.

Slowing down may seem counterproductive, but speed can negatively affect tyre life. The faster you go the higher the toll on tyres, especially under load. Like water, higher internal tyre temperatures from fast running between work areas can make tyres more susceptible to damage from obstacles and tread separation. Slower speeds also allow the operator more time to see and avoid obstacles.
Planning operations on a site properly can do a lot to preserve tyres and machines. Minimise transport distances between work areas and reduce the need to make sharp turns. Keep roadways on the job-site groomed to benefit tyre life.

AVOID OBSTACLES
It’s important for operators to understand that even though they’re running a large machine designed for work in quarries and mines, the tyres are not invulnerable to debris and sharp objects. Tyre chains can provide significant protection against damagecausing obstacles, but the chains themselves will cause some tyre wear, require maintenance and add weight to the machine that increase drivetrain load.

07 09 06
Differential locks can greatly increase traction when one wheel encounters a slippery surface or momentarily loses contact with the ground, increasing tyre life by reducing wheel spin. However, locked differentials can contribute to tyre wear during turns. Engage differential locks as requirements arise.

10
Today’s telematics products can help manage tyres remotely. Most OTR tyre makers have their own monitoring systems to keep constant tabs on tyre pressure via an Internet interface or mobile app. Tyre temperature, differential lock and spin control utilisation can be viewed, too. Use this technology to monitor tyres and conditions to prolong tyre life.

EURO AUCTIONS JUNE SALE
WITH EQUIPMENT
RECORD
The first Euro Auctions Abu Dhabi sale of 2026, and the first since December 2025, has underlined the continued strength and resilience of the Middle East used construction equipment market, delivering strong demand, record attendance, and a sale total of approximately $8 million.
The June auction generated $7.9 million in total sales, with $4.7 million achieved from on-site bidders and a further $3.2 million secured online. The result closely matches the December 2025 performance, reinforcing the consistency of demand for quality used machinery in the region.
A total of 97 vendors consigned equipment to the sale, including 61 from the UAE, while 717 buyers registered to bid. Of these, 184 were first-time Euro Auctions customers, reflecting the continued expansion of the company’s buyer base across the Middle East and beyond. UAE buyers accounted for $6.4 million of total purchases, with additional bidding interest coming from the Netherlands, Oman, Georgia, Uganda, and Iraq. Strong competition was also seen from buyers in the UK, India, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. Despite ongoing regional challenges and logistical disruption, the June sale delivered what is widely regarded as the strongest Abu Dhabi turnout to date, reinforcing confidence in the resilience of the market.
Attendance and buyer engagement
Commenting on the June sale, Richard Sweatt, General Manager of Euro Auctions Abu Dhabi, says: “There was a real sense of positivity throughout the sale. Our customers were pleased to see Euro Auctions back operating live auctions. Demand for machinery remains strong, and that was reflected in both the quality of equipment on offer and the competitive bidding seen throughout the auction.
“We’ve not held a sale in Abu Dhabi since December 2025 due to the conflict in the region, so while we’re not completely back to normal yet, we’re pleased to see consignors once again sending machinery into the UAE for auction. The market remains buoyant, driven by major infrastructure projects and limited availability of new equipment.
As a result, late-model, low-hour used machines continue to attract significant buyer interest.
“The June sale saw the largest attendance in Euro Auctions history in the Middle East. We had to increase seating capacity, and even then the sales arena was packed, with spectators were standing four deep around the ring. The turnout was exceptional. The popularity of the live auction format continues to be a key differentiator for the business.
“Buyers still enjoy seeing equipment in person and competing in real time. We are currently the only major auction company operating live auctions in the Middle East, and that continues to attract buyers from across the region and beyond.”
“The ongoing geopolitical situation in the region continues to present logistical challenges, particularly with shipping disruptions affecting key routes. With disruption affecting movements through the Strait of Hormuz, we’re working closely with consignors and using every available transport route to ensure machinery reaches our Abu Dhabi site,” says Sweatt. “We’re bringing equipment overland where possible and using every option available to support our customers.”
“Euro Auctions is also expanding its international sourcing network to meet growing demand. We’re working closely with suppliers in China and Indonesia, and I’m personally spending time in the Far East building relationships and securing future stock. We’re also transferring machines from our established operations in the UK and Germany to satisfy demand in the UAE market.
“Analysis of bidding activity highlighted particularly strong competition across several core sectors, including backhoe loaders, large excavators, telehandlers, and Caterpillar bulldozers. Late-model CAT D8 bulldozers saw extremely competitive bidding,” said Sweatt.
“We also had strong interest in concrete pump trucks and CAT 349 excavators, which remain in very high demand. CAT D6 and D7 machines also performed exceptionally well, with buyers competing aggressively throughout the auction.
“Euro Auctions is now actively seeking additional consignments to meet sustained demand. We need more CAT motor graders, late-model CAT D8 bulldozers, 30-tonne-plus excavators, telehandlers, and access platforms. Demand remains particularly strong from buyers in the UAE
A total of 97 vendors consigned equipment to the sale, including 61 from the UAE, while 717 buyers registered to bid. Of these, 184 were
and across Africa, where infrastructure development continues to drive requirements. Telehandlers, in particular, remain difficult to source.”
New format and outlook
“Following successful trials in 2025, Euro Auctions has introduced a revised two-day auction structure in Abu Dhabi. Thursday now hosts the traditional live auction, while Friday operates as a timed online sale. This format works extremely well for both buyers and consignors.”
Looking ahead, Euro Auctions plans to expand its auction calendar further, with five sales planned for 2027, the outlook remains very positive. We have a strong team, solid consignor relationships, and growing sourcing networks across Europe and Asia.
The message from Abu Dhabi is clear: demand remains strong, confidence is returning, and Euro Auctions is well positioned for continued growth across the Middle East. The next phase, moving into 2027, is going to be very exciting.

“The market remains buoyant, driven by major infrastructure projects and limited availability of new equipment”
Saudi Crane Services (SCS) has completed a comprehensive refurbishment programme for its entire fleet of 28 Grove mobile cranes, giving machines that have been working for decades a new lease of life and reinforcing the company’s long-term approach to fleet management.
Using 100% genuine OEM components supplied through Manitowoc’s aftersales support team, the Jeddahbased lifting specialist has revitalised every crane in its fleet, ensuring they are ready to continue operating reliably and efficiently on demanding projects across Saudi Arabia. The refurbishment covered SCS’s predominantly Grove rough-terrain fleet, together with its GMK4080 all-terrain crane. The fleet’s newest machines are nine RT765E-2 cranes, manufactured between 2011 and 2012, while the oldest, an RT522, has remained in service since 1990. The fleet also includes eight RT760E cranes, four RT890E cranes, four RT880E cranes, and one RT9130E crane.
Rather than replacing proven equipment, SCS chose to invest in extending the service life of its existing fleet—a strategy that reflects both sound asset management and confidence in the durability of Grove cranes.
“We typically operate our Grove cranes for around 15 to 20 years before considering resale or trade-in, depending on condition and workload,” explains Richard Gandar, General Manager of Saudi Crane Services. “Because genuine spare parts remain readily available for all our Grove models, a full parts refresh made strong financial sense.”
The extensive refurbishment programme involved replacing or upgrading a broad range of critical components, including hydraulic systems, control systems, structural elements, booms, air-conditioning units and cab interiors. Depending on the scope of work required, each crane spent between 5-10 weeks
undergoing refurbishment before returning to service. The programme not only restores reliability but also ensures the cranes continue to meet the demanding performance expectations of customers working in construction, oil and gas, industrial maintenance and infrastructure projects throughout the Kingdom.
“This initiative has significantly extended our cranes’ operational lifespan while improving lifting precision, reducing downtime, and enhancing fuel efficiency,” Gandar continues. “Our operators have always praised the comfort, control, and robust performance of the Grove cranes, and these upgrades have made them even better.”
Since its establishment in 2007, SCS has built its fleet around Grove rough-terrain cranes, which have consistently demonstrated their durability in Saudi Arabia’s harsh desert conditions. High temperatures, dust and intensive operating schedules place exceptional demands on lifting equipment, making reliability and ease of maintenance critical factors for fleet operators.
The cranes’ combination of lifting capacity, off-road mobility and dependable performance enables SCS to support a wide range of applications, from machinery installation and structural steel erection to module lifting and industrial shutdown work across the region.
A key element of the programme has been the continued availability of genuine Grove parts, backed by Manitowoc’s aftersales organisation and supported locally by Kanoo Machinery. Alongside parts supply, the long-standing partnership includes regular operator and maintenance training programmes, helping SCS maximise equipment performance and maintain high standards of safety and reliability throughout the fleet.
“This project demonstrates how proper parts support and planned maintenance can extend equipment life far beyond expectations,” Gandar concludes. “Our Grove cranes are now ready to deliver many more years of safe, efficient lifting performance.”

A combination of lifting capacity, off-road mobility and dependable performance enables the Grove cranes to support wide-ranging applications for SCS.

The new Cat 707 has been engineered to minimise maintenance costs throughout its operating life. Its reinforced chassis and fully integrated powertrain are designed for durability and future rebuilding, allowing customers to extend machine life while reducing long-term ownership costs. When combined with flexible Cat Customer Value Agreements (CVAs), operators can maximise planned maintenance, improve uptime and help maintain reliable mechanical performance through a second service life.
Maintenance has also been simplified through grouped service points that reduce inspection and servicing time. A ground-level engine shut-off switch allows operators to safely stop fuel flow during servicing or emergencies, while LED lighting provides brighter illumination, reduced power consumption and increased resistance to vibration and moisture.
The truck also shares key components with other Cat machines, including the C13 engine, CX31RT transmission and common cab, helping customers simplify fleet maintenance, improve parts availability and reduce inventory requirements. The new Cat 707 wide body truck is available in select markets with either US EPA Tier 3 equivalent or China Nonroad Stage IV emissions configurations.

Work has officially begun on Volvo Construction Equipment’s (Volvo CE) new excavator factory in Eskilstuna, Sweden, with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch marking the occasion by taking the controls of electric 23-ton excavators for a symbolic first dig.
The new factory, due for completion in 2028, represents a SEK 700 million investment and reinforces Volvo CE’s long-term commitment to Swedish manufacturing. The company says the facility will strengthen its competitiveness, create jobs in the region and support Europe’s industrial and innovation capacity.

“It really feels like coming home.

just an economic issue. It is about independence, resilience and the ability to build our future with our own resources. Today, Volvo CE is writing the next chapter in Sweden’s industrial history – one that inspires and looks firmly to the future,” said Ebba Busch, Minister for Energy, Business and Industry. Eskilstuna already hosts Volvo CE’s global headquarters, its largest research and development centre, the sales organisation for Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Oceania, and a component factory. The new facility means Volvo CE will manufacture all its key products in Sweden, alongside articulated haulers in Braås, wheel loaders in Arvika and cabs in Hallsberg.
I’m incredibly pleased to be here today and show how this proud heritage is being carried forward. I strongly believe in the close dialogue between business and politics that we have in Sweden – keep up the good work!” said Ulf Kristersson, Prime Minister of Sweden, who himself grew up in Eskilstuna.
“These yellow machines have quite literally built this country – from roads and mines to cities. At a time of increasing uncertainty, competitiveness is not
“Sweden has been a natural part of Volvo CE’s industrial journey for nearly two centuries, and we are proud to continue making major investments...By investing in new excavator production in Eskilstuna, we are strengthening our global competitiveness while creating jobs, developing technology, and reinforcing our strong industrial base in Sweden,” said Melker Jernberg, President of Volvo CE. The 30,000m² factory will produce electric and combustion-engine crawler excavators from 14 to 50 tonnes, with annual capacity of up to 3,500 machines.
