NEW BEGINNINGS

Over the last several years, we have grown accustomed to hearing that electrification of the equipment industry is the future, that zero-emission job-sites are not only a possibility but a soon-to-happen reality. That possibility has already become a reality in some parts of the world and is soon to hit home in the Middle East as well. The electrified job-site – or at least some electric equipment – is no longer the future. It is a here-and-now reality. Bringing the electrified future home to us in the UAE are LiuGong and its dealer Gargash General Trading – and with the most improbable of machines: the electric dump truck. While we may not have been surprised with the introduction of electrification in the small and compact machines segment, unleashing massive mining trucks in their electric avatar on the UAE’s job-sites is surely something that we did not suspect would happen anytime soon.

But, as Gargash tell us in this issue, LiuGong has the hardware to make electric dump trucks a reality in the UAE, right here and right now. After having been tested and proven all around the world, these electric dumpers are now hitting our shores, bringing not just clean and zero-emission operations but also substantial savings in terms of energy and fuel costs, as the LiuGong dealer reveals in our cover story.

This marks a new beginning for sustainability and emission free job-sites in the UAE, and by extension in the wider region. It is a beginning that is more substantial than the odd electric mini excavator or skid-steer loader that some

local fleets have inducted as a token nod to sustainability. This is because, not only has LiuGong made the massive dumpers green, it has also hit upon a way to improve operators’ bottom lines in the process, thus removing the expense excuse for not going electric.

Elsewhere in this issue, we shed light on another new beginning: JCB’s foray into the heavy excavator segment with its biggest digger yet – the 52-tonne 520X. Already among the market favourites south of the 50-tonne capacity mark with its medium excavators and backhoes, this step marks the next phase of the popular British brand’s journey.

A personal journey also comes full circle for yours truly this month – and with it comes a new beginning. Four years ago, I wrote my last editorial for CMME as I moved on to other roles after helming the title for six years and making it the industry favourite with your support. This editorial marks my return and signals the beginning of a new journey of raising it to even greater heights.

It’s great to be back!

LIEBHERR CRANES REACH THE CLOUDS TO ASSEMBLE WORLD’S TALLEST WIND TURBINE

Three Liebherr 800-tonne cranes have assembled the tallest onshore wind turbines in the world at a German wind farm. An LG 1800-1.0 from rental company Nolte and one LR 1800-1.0 each from Neeb and Hofmann erected ten Nordex N175/6.X turbines at the Mahlsdorf wind farm end of 2025.

Large rotor diameters, hub heights and component masses placed high demands on the cranes, which were masterfully handled by the HSL4 boom system, VarioTray and V-Frame. Short conversion times, well-planned logistics and Liebherr’s reliable service were further factors contributing to the success.

The site impressively demonstrated that modern 800-tonne cranes are a key success factor for the assembly of the next generation of wind turbines, especially when time frames are tight and wind conditions are challenging.

Larger rotor diameters on wind turbines allow for higher yields, especially in low-wind areas. Taller turbines also increase effectiveness, as the rotor is further away from the boundary layer near the

ground and thus experiences higher wind speeds.

The Nordex Group has now launched a new wind turbine as part of its Delta4000 series, the N175/6.X. As the name suggests, it has a rotor diameter of 175 metres. UKA and Nordex built the first wind farm with ten of these new turbines, each with a capacity of 6.8 MW, in Mahlsdorf, Brandenburg, Germany. With a hub height of 179 metres, these turbines are among the tallest onshore turbines in the world.

As the turbines get bigger, so do the demands on the cranes. At the end of 2025, three 800-tonne Liebherr cranes were in use on the construction site: an LG 1800-1.0, and two LR 1800-1.0. All auxiliary cranes were also Liebherr machines, meaning that a total of nine cranes from Ehingen worked together.

The powerful 800-tonne cranes are the smallest cranes that can handle these tall and heavy structures: the gearbox is the heaviest single component, weighing in at 83 tonnes net. To this end, all three cranes were equipped with the HSL4 boom system, a 174m main boom plus an 18m fixed jib. For the lifts, 170 tonnes of upper carriage ballast

and 100 tonnes of suspended ballast were loaded. A total of around 400 tonnes of suspended ballast is required to erect the mast. With the help of the VarioTray, the large pallet weighing 300 tonnes can be disconnected from the smaller pallet with the remaining 100 tonnes and set down within minutes. This saves time and effort during erection and setting down. This was useful at the Mahlsdorf wind farm in that it made it possible to make good use of a weather window of only two days. The V-Frame also saves time: rotor blades stored further away could be picked up with a large ballast radius and mounted with a smaller radius without having to stack ballast.

A key factor in optimising construction costs is minimising crane conversion times, both within and between different wind farms. Hofmann used SPMTs so that the crane did not have to be completely dismantled. Ingo Klees, a member of the technical field service team, explains: “This achievement was only possible thanks to an excellently coordinated team and a well-thoughtout assembly and transport concept.”

“This achievement was only possible thanks to an excellently coordinated team and a well-thoughtout assembly and transport concept”

CONSTRUCTION BLUEPRINT 2026: SMARTER, GREENER, FASTER

MOHAMED AMER, MANAGING DIRECTOR, ICC MENA, DELVES INTO THE SEVEN TRENDS THAT ARE DRIVING THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR FORWARD IN 2026 AND INTO THE FUTURE

As the construction sector advances through 2025, it is setting the foundation for a pivotal transformation in 2026.

Across the GCC, sustainability, climate-resilient design, and advanced technology are evolving from emerging priorities into industry standards.

The choices made today will determine how effectively the region’s built environment can respond to climate challenges, meet decarbonization targets, and support long-term economic growth.

Key trends and predictions for the construction industry in 2026 point to a sector increasingly shaped by sustainability, climate-resilient design, and advanced technology. Widespread adoption of green building standards, innovative approaches that strengthen climate resilience, and AI-driven automation transforming codecompliance processes are expected to define the next phase of development.

1. From traditional concrete to next-gen lowcarbon materials

Concrete has long been the backbone of construction across the GCC. While its

performance and durability remain essential, its environmental impact has driven significant innovation in recent years. Throughout 2025, the industry made measurable progress in reducing embodied carbon through the use of alternative cements and improved production methods. By 2026, low-carbon materials are expected to move beyond early adoption toward broader standardisation. Advanced concrete admixtures that enhance strength, longevity, and performance will increasingly be paired with alternative binders to reduce emissions without compromising either safety or quality.

As sustainability benchmarks tighten, material

innovation will remain a critical enabler of low-carbon construction.

2. Designing for extreme climates: Smarter, more efficient buildings

The GCC’s extreme climate continues to influence how buildings are designed and operated. In 2025, passive cooling strategies, high-performance insulation, and energy-efficient envelopes gained traction as effective tools to reduce cooling demand. Looking ahead to 2026, these solutions are expected to become integral to mainstream design rather than optional enhancements. HVAC systems responsible for up to 70% of a

building’s energy use in the region will increasingly be optimized through smart controls and predictive technologies. This shift will result in buildings that consume less energy, operate more efficiently, and are better equipped to adapt to rising temperatures and climate volatility.

3. Faster, cleaner delivery through industrialised construction methods

Industrialized construction methods, including modular and prefabricated systems, continued to demonstrate their value in 2025 by reducing waste, improving build quality, and accelerating project delivery. In 2026, their adoption is expected to expand further as developers seek faster, more predictable, and more sustainable construction models.

Off-site fabrication enables parallel workflows, allowing site preparation and module production to occur simultaneously. This approach improves quality control, enhances inventory management, and minimizes material waste. The GCC particularly the UAE is also expected to maintain its global leadership in construction-scale 3D printing, with additive manufacturing playing a growing role in sustainable and efficient project delivery.

4. AI, Digital Twins, and the rise of intelligent buildings

Digital transformation is reshaping every stage of the construction lifecycle. Building Information Modeling (BIM) has already enabled more accurate planning and pre-construction simulations, and in 2026 its integration with artificial intelligence is expected to deliver even greater efficiencies.

Following project completion, IoT sensors will continue to generate vast amounts of real-time data, enabling the creation of increasingly sophisticated digital twins. Supported by AI, these systems can monitor performance, detect deviations, run simulations, and autonomously intervene for example, adjusting lighting and air conditioning when spaces are unoccupied. AI-driven tools are also expected to transform code-compliance processes, making them faster, more consistent, and more reliable.

5. Strengthening the framework: Policies, codes, and global alignment

While market forces and corporate responsibility have driven much of the sustainability progress to date, regulatory

frameworks are expected to play an even stronger role in shaping the construction sector in 2026. National strategies such as Saudi Vision 2030 and the UAE Net Zero 2050 initiative continue to influence construction practices through mandatory requirements and targeted incentives.

At the same time, international organizations such as the International Code Council (ICC) are becoming increasingly important in supporting globally recognized building codes and standards. These frameworks help ensure consistent benchmarks for safety, efficiency, and sustainability, supporting the GCC’s broader alignment with international best practices in green building and climate-resilient development.

6. Preparing the workforce for a low-carbon, high-tech future

The transition to low-carbon, technology-driven construction depends not only on innovation, but also on people. As the industry looks toward 2026, continuous training and education will be essential to ensure professionals can effectively implement new materials, digital tools, and evolving regulatory requirements.

ICC Training and ICC Credentialing programs help ensure that code officials, inspectors, and construction professionals remain up to date with the latest safety protocols and compliance standards. A well-trained workforce reduces errors, improves safety, and plays a vital role in translating sustainability goals into measurable outcomes.

7. Working together to deliver a safer, more sustainable built environment

Creating a safer and more sustainable built environment in the GCC requires collaboration across the entire construction ecosystem. As the region moves into 2026, sharing best practices, participating in regional initiatives, and aligning standards among industry peers, regulators, and stakeholders will be increasingly important. By working together to raise safety, efficiency, and sustainability benchmarks, the construction sector can help deliver a climate-resilient, low-carbon future one that supports economic growth while meeting the environmental and social needs of generations to come.

these new systems. This includes providing specialized high voltage training, dedicated digital tools, and other targeted support programs that help operators and technicians adapt to the requirements of electrified machinery.

Industrial machines run harder and longer than road vehicles — how does ZF support uptime?

MN: To ensure optimal uptime, we maintain an extensive network globally. Our partners are strategically positioned near our customers, enabling efficient and prompt troubleshooting and resolution of issues. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive portfolio of genuine parts necessary for product repairs. Furthermore, we are continuously developing advanced condition monitoring tools and innovative products such as the ZF Scan.

ZF enjoys a broad and well-spreadout industrial footprint. How does the customer experience that and benefit from it?

MN: When discussing our extensive reach, I want to highlight two main aspects. First, within the industrial sector, we operate across nearly all areas—ranging from agricultural and construction machinery to materials handling, rail, marine, and various specialty vehicles. This breadth gives us expertise across different segments, which ultimately benefits our customers.

Secondly, it’s important to mention that ZF Group is among the few suppliers worldwide serving passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and the industrial

segment. We gain advantages from developments in the passenger car sector and the commercial vehicle sector alike, where higher production volumes make it easier to transfer innovations to industrial applications.

Off-highway machines operate for decades. How do ZF repair solutions extend asset life?

MN: That’s a great question. We continue providing aftermarket solutions even for products that have been out of mass production for years. For instance, the

ZF

4W G65 transmission hasn’t been in serial production for several years, but there are still many of these transmissions in use, which keeps demand for aftermarket services high. As a result, we keep supporting our customers by repairing these transmissions and manufacturing necessary aftermarket parts.

How big is the opportunity for remanufacturing in heavy industries?

MN: The opportunity presented by remanufacturing is substantial. Extending the lifespan of products through Reman is particularly significant for machinery that has typically been in operation for extended periods. Additionally, Reman activities contribute to notable CO 2 reductions, which represents another major advantage. Furthermore, it is important to emphasize that Reman consistently delivers Original Equipment quality while offering a lower cost.

What message would you like to send to contractors and industrial operators in the Middle East?

MN: Our approach centers on strategic partnerships and establishing a strong local presence, which is essential both for our organization and our customers. To further support this objective, we are developing dedicated products tailored to the IMEA region. For instance, in early 2026, we plan to introduce a clutch range specifically designed for agricultural machinery in the IMEA market.

POWER THAT PAYS

CHARGING AHEAD

AS ELECTRIFICATION GATHERS PACE GLOBALLY, GARGASH GENERAL TRADING IS POSITIONING LIUGONG’S MINING TRUCKS AT THE INTERSECTION OF SUSTAINABILITY, EFFICIENCY, AND APPLICATION-LED ENGINEERING IN THE UAE

Picture this: you run a quarry site in the UAE’s northern emirates. Where others see rough and rocky hills in Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, you see enough gypsum and limestone to feed the ever-hungry cement ready-mix and batching plants of the UAE that are fuelling its construction boom. Your equipment, comprising drills, excavators, loaders, crushers and screeners, chips away at the mountains, attacking them from the top, cutting away bits of the rocks, then loading them onto mining and dump trucks and hauling them down the mountain to valley below. It’s a fuel-thirsty, resource-hungry endeavour, especially for the vital mining trucks. But it need not be – and LiuGong has the answer as to how.

What if you used LiuGong’s electric mining trucks that only consumed a little bit of energy while travelling unladen and empty uphill to the loading site, and then coming down with their load and using LiuGong’s regenerative technology to recover the energy that they expended going uphill, with the result that an entire week’s shift can be completed on only once charge?

It may sound too good to be true, but Mahmoud Darras, Head of Sales at

LiuGong’s UAE distributor Gargash General Trading, says not only is this happening in several quarries around the world, but LiuGong can soon make it happen in the UAE, too.

The haulage segment in the Middle East’s quarrying and mining ecosystem is at a point of inflection. With sustainability mandates tightening and cost pressures mounting, contractors are increasingly reassessing long-held assumptions around fleet composition. Into this evolving landscape steps Gargash, introducing LiuGong’s mining truck portfolio to the UAE with a clear emphasis on electrification and application-specific solutions.

For Darras, the shift is not just technological, it is structural. “The whole world is going more towards sustainable solutions. Electrification is becoming more common, and the development of electrical products, whether vehicles, trucks, or machines, is progressing very quickly,” he says.

Electrification takes centre stage

The decision to introduce LiuGong’s mining trucks, especially the electric ones, is rooted in both global trends and local opportunity. Darras frames it as an inevitability rather than an experiment.

“We are seeing better technology, better cooling systems, safer batteries, higher efficiency batteries. The same evolution we’ve seen in smaller devices is now being

“We don’t just sell a truck — we study the site. We look at slope, road condition, material type, and hauling distance, and then recommend the right solution. In many cases, customers are using rigid trucks simply because they are not aware of alternatives”

Gargash is introducing LiuGong’s electric dump trucks in the UAE, backed by full charging infrastructure support, and with the aim of reducing operating costs for quarry customers

applied on a much larger scale in trucks and heavy equipment.”

What makes the UAE particularly compelling for electric haulage, however, is not just policy direction but site dynamics. “A lot of the quarry sites here are loading downhill. When you climb uphill, you’re consuming power, but when you’re going downhill, especially with a load, LiuGong’s electric retarder regenerates energy back into the battery,” he explains.

This regenerative capability is not theoretical. Darras points to real-world performance data from operating sites: “On one site in China, three fully electric LiuGong dump trucks completed a full working week and still had around 75% battery charge left, without charging even once during the week.”

The implications for operating costs are significant. “At the end of the week, they only need one to two hours of DC charging to top up. That means zero diesel cost and minimal downtime for charging,” he adds.

Such efficiency gains are particularly relevant in the UAE, where quarry operations in mountainous regions naturally lend themselves to regenerative cycles. “In places like Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, material is being taken downhill after extraction. This makes electric trucks an excellent fit for many of these applications.”

Beyond performance, Darras positions

inroads into the UAE market’s electric mining truck segment. According to Mahmoud Darras, the model is expected to be “our best-selling product in the segment”

“The DR50C-E is a fully electric 50-ton rigid dump truck with a payload of up to 45 tons,” he says. “I don’t think anyone else has this solution. It’s a very unique product.”

Darras adds that the weight and capacity class that LiuGong has positioned the DR50C-E in makes it extremely versatile for quarry customers. “It is one dump truck that can fulfil various needs, given its size, payload and terrainability.”

The DR50C-E has a rated power output of 480kW and a heaped capacity of 30 cubic metres. Both figures are higher than its diesel equivalent, making the electric version more powerful and with higher capacity than the conventional model.

electrification as part of a broader ecosystem shift. “We always recommend that customers electrify their whole fleet, whether it’s electric loaders, excavators, and dump trucks, so they can create a fully sustainable site,” he says.

However, adoption is not without friction.

“There is still resistance. Fuel prices here are relatively low, and there is always battery anxiety. Operators worry about completing a full shift without interruption,” he admits.

“We guarantee that a fully charged machine can handle a full shift, but that concern is natural with any new technology.”

To counter this, Gargash has taken a hands-on approach. “The right way is to demonstrate proof of concept. We tested our electric wheel loader across multiple applications for over three months, and customers who saw it in action were convinced. Some placed orders immediately.”

Infrastructure, often cited as a barrier, is being addressed in parallel. “Unlike passenger vehicles, these machines operate in stationary environments, such as in mines, quarries and landfills, where you don’t need public charging networks,” Darras explains. “We provide the full solution: supply, installation, commissioning, and operation of EV chargers. Customers don’t need to depend on third parties.”

The wide body proposition

“When customers think mining equipment, I want them to think Gargash-LiuGong”

If electrification represents the future, the wide body dump truck is, in many ways, the present disruptor. Originally developed by Chinese manufacturers, the concept is gaining traction globally — and now, in the UAE.

“The wide body dump truck is based on a standard dump truck platform but adapted for off-road use through increased width, length, and payload capacity,” Darras explains.

Its appeal lies first and foremost in economics. “A conventional rigid dump truck consumes around 38 litres of fuel per hour. A LiuGong wide body truck consumes roughly 18 litres. That’s a massive reduction,” he says.

Capital expenditure tells a similar story.

“If you compare a 60-ton wide body truck to a 60-ton rigid dump truck, the wide body is about one-third of the cost as an initial investment,” Darras notes. “So, you have lower fuel consumption, lower upfront cost, and lower total cost of ownership.”

Maintenance advantages further strengthen the case. “Wide body trucks use standard truck tyres, which are significantly

cheaper. In rigid dump trucks, tyres are among the most expensive and fastestwearing components,” he adds.

The scalability of the concept also stands out. “Instead of investing in a 100-ton rigid dump truck, which is a huge investment and consumes 45 to 50 litres per hour, you can use an 80 or 90-ton wide body truck to achieve similar output at a much lower cost.”

However, Darras is quick to emphasise that the wide body truck is not a universal replacement. “It is not suitable for all terrains. It requires relatively flat surfaces or gentle slopes of ideally less than 10% incline,” he says. “If the terrain is too rocky or steep, then rigid dump trucks remain the better option.”

This is where Gargash’s consultative approach comes into play. “We don’t just sell a truck — we study the site. We look at slope, road condition, material type, and hauling distance, and then recommend the right solution. In many cases, customers are using rigid trucks simply because they are not aware of alternatives,” Darras observes.

The UAE’s quarry landscape offers a mix of both scenarios. “In areas like Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain, where surfaces are flatter, wide body trucks are very suitable. In Fujairah, where terrain is steeper and rougher, rigid trucks are still essential,” Darras notes. “So the reality is that most operations will use a combination of both.”

100 tons, and rigid dump trucks in 50-ton and 100-ton classes,” Darras explains. At the upper end, specialised solutions are also available. “There is a 150-ton rigid model with a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain for specific applications. It’s a customised solution rather than a standard offering in this market,” he adds.

Looking ahead, articulated dump trucks are set to complete the line-up. “They are currently being tested globally and are expected to reach the Middle East by early 2027,” he says. “They will be

particularly useful in confined or highly variable terrain conditions.”

Across the portfolio, both diesel and electric variants are being prioritised. “We are not limiting ourselves. We will offer electric and diesel, rigid and wide body. But our main focus will be on electric wide body trucks because they deliver the strongest value proposition today,” Darras states.

Beyond machines: a solutions mindset

Underlying Gargash’s market strategy is a deliberate shift away from transactional sales toward engineering-led engagement.

“Since day one, we have positioned ourselves as a solution provider. Our sales teams are engineers, and we have dedicated specialists for different industries, from mining to ready-mix to oil and gas,” Darras explains. “We approach customers as partners, not just suppliers.”

The growing acceptance of the concept is also reflected in competitive dynamics. “Even major global OEMs are now introducing wide body trucks. That validates the concept. It shows that this is the right solution for many applications,” he says.

Building out the range

Gargash’s current LiuGong offering spans both wide body and rigid configurations, with further expansion on the horizon. “We offer wide body dump trucks from 60 to

that Gargash expects will sell the most out of all models in its mining trucks range. The model has a payload of 70 tons, which is ideal for quarries in the UAE, says Mahmoud Darras.

“We spoke with a lot of quarry sites and found that when they use the wide body dump trucks, they load about 66-67 ton on each trip. So this is the perfect match for them. In UAE quarries, the DW105A is the most useful product. This is just what the market wants over here,” he says.

Darras also points out that since UAE customers are used to rigid dump trucks, if they ever think of going electric, the DW105A-E is also available as a uniquely useful electric upgrade. With a gross machine weight of 105t and a payload of 70t, the DW105A offers a heaped capacity of 43 cubic metres and its diesel engine puts out a rated power of 382kW.

This philosophy extends to aftersales, infrastructure, and lifecycle support. “We want customers to come back to us. That’s why we focus on reliability, using proven components like Allison transmissions, even if it increases cost slightly,” he says.

It also shapes the company’s long-term vision. “Within the next three years, we aim to have our mining trucks operating across multiple sites in the UAE, in different applications,” Darras reveals. “We will continue studying applications, introducing demo units, and building confidence in the market.”

Ultimately, the transition underway in the UAE’s quarry sector is not about choosing between diesel and electric, or rigid and wide body, it is about aligning equipment with application in a more intelligent way.

As Darras puts it: “Once customers test the machines and see the efficiency, the savings, and the performance for themselves, they become convinced. That’s when real change happens. When customers think mining equipment, I want them to think Gargash-LiuGong.”

NEW CAT 6015 MINING SHOVEL INCREASES OUTPUT AND UPTIME

WHY GET IT?

HIGHER UPTIME, OPERATING EFFICIENCY, DURABILITY AND SERVICEABILITY, FOR MORE SHOVEL OUTPUT WITH LOW COST-PER-TON OPERATION

With a versatile design offering efficient operation for a range of tasks, the new Cat 6015 hydraulic mining shovel boasts significant design enhancements that increase machine uptime, operating efficiency, and improve durability and serviceability, resulting in higher annual shovel output. The new flexible shovel design delivers low cost-per-ton operation. With its 14.6-tonne (16.1-ton) bucket payload, the shovel provides proven pass match efficiency with Cat 773, 775 and 777 haul trucks operating in the 55- to 90-tonne-class (61- to 100-ton-class) range. It delivers flexible and productive loading efficiency across a full spectrum of applications, including mining, quarry and aggregate, heavy construction, and industrial.

Meeting the needs of the global market, the shovel’s 615kW (824hp) Cat C27 engine delivers class-leading power and features

a new maintenance-free, non-selectivecatalytic-reduction aftertreatment solution that does not require diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) to meet US EPA Tier 4 Final/EU Stage V emissions standards. Two alternative engine configurations are available for regions with lower emission standards – one meeting China Nonroad Stage III standards (equivalent to US EPA Tier 2) and a second, fuel-consumption-optimised US EPA Tier 1 emissions equivalent.

Rather than delivering a fixed amount of oil at high idle, the shovel’s new generation pilot pump configuration offers variable, on-demand hydraulic oil flow based on control lever movements. In periods of simultaneous machine movements, the pump increases flow, and when joysticks are returned to neutral, oil flow decreases. This lowers system heat generation, reduces component wear and improves fuel efficiency by a minimum of 5.5%.

A new Cat Proportional Priority Pressure Compensating (PPPC) hydraulic system increases operator efficiency by varying hydraulic flow directly proportional to joystick movements for smooth, predictable operation.

LARGEST OUTWARD SHIPMENT IN THE HISTORY OF ABU

DHABI’S KHALIFA PORT SAW ENGINEERED HEAVY LIFT AND MOVING GIANT LOAD 24 GIGANTIC PAU AND PAR MODULES FOR MAJOR GAS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

Mammoet has safely completed the weighing, transport and loadout at Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Port of 24 made-inUAE modules for a gas project, some of which weighed in the thousands of tonnes and were tens of metres in dimensions.

The global leader in engineered heavy lifting and moving said the “monumental operation” at Abu Dhabi Ports’ flagship deepwater multi-purpose port was for 24 PAU and PAR modules for a major gas development project.

Fabricated by Quality International Co ltd FZC, among the leading module fabrication and assembly yards in the UAE, the modules were loaded out in a milestone operation that required seamless coordination with Khalifa Port operations, including adjustments to infrastructure to handle oversized cargo.

Mammoet said that its engineers thoroughly studied every stage of the operation to guarantee safe and efficient execution. The project also

marked the largest outward shipment in Khalifa Port’s history.

The modules were moved from the fabrication yard at Khalifa Port South Quay to the adjacent quayside, covering approximately 2.5 kilometres, before being loaded out and shipped in four consignments.

Mammoet’s scope included weighing the modules using twelve 300t and eighteen 150t jack and load cells, applied in different configurations depending on each module’s size and weight. For transport and loadout, Mammoet deployed 120 axle lines of self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) and four power pack units.

The heaviest and tallest unit – a Process Gas Cooling Module – weighed 2,464t and measured 38m long, 23m wide, and 32m high.

PULVERISING PERFORMANCE

MB CRUSHER SCORED HARD HITS ON RAZING AND CLEARANCE JOB-SITES GLOBALLY LAST YEAR, WITH SEVERAL INTERESTING PROJECTS EXECUTED WITH THE HELP OF ITS DEMOLITION GRAPPLES

Demolition isn’t just brute force. Quite the opposite, it’s about precision and control, strict schedules, and zero margin for error. That’s where the MB Crusher demolition pulverisers come into play: tools that, across job sites last year, proved what it truly means to demolish with method. With the year 2025 as their proving ground, MB Crusher equipment tackled historic city centres, urban regeneration projects, and tight spaces. Different job-sites in terms of context and complexity, yet all connected by a common thread — the demolition grapple used as a core working tool, not merely an attachment. This is where challenges turned into results while offering a glimpse of what is to come.

FRANCE – VILLENEUVE-SUR-LOT URBAN DECONSTRUCTION: ONE WEEK TO TRANSFORM A NEIGHBORHOOD

In Villeneuve-sur-Lot, in southern France, demolition formed a key part of the urban regeneration project in the Cieutat district. The goal: fast yet controlled demolition. Contractor Artebat chose a short-radius Doosan 235 LCR excavator paired with the MB-PT1650 — an ideal combination for working among historic buildings, narrow streets, and restricted spaces.

Here, demolition becomes an exercise in precision. The structure was dismantled element by element, minimising noise, vibration and dust. The MB Crusher pulveriser’s hydraulic system ensured consistent power management, while interchangeable kits allowed it to adapt to each phase of the job. In just a few days, the building was completely demolished, with minimal inconvenience to residents.

FRANCE – WINTER RENOVATIONS END OF A POOL, START OF A NEW PROJECT

In winter, job-sites in colder climates present unique challenges. In France, an old concrete swimming pool marked the starting point for a new renovation project. Mounted on a Doosan DX62, an MB-P380 demolition pulveriser proved ideal for tight spaces and sensitive environments.

The pool was dismantled piece by piece, following the irregular geometry of the structure and adapting to varying concrete thicknesses. The real strength of the MB-P380 lies in its control: the operator can precisely modulate power, gripping and demolishing material without transmitting unnecessary vibrations to surrounding structures. This is a key advantage when working close to existing buildings or systems that must remain intact.

FRANCE – VAUCLUSE HEAVY DEMOLITION, WITHOUT A SCRATCH

In Vaucluse, France, the challenge was evident from the start: demolish a two-storey industrial building attached to an inhabited house — without causing any damage to the adjacent property. Contractor Guillaume TP completed the task using an MB-PT1650. Each structural element was gripped and removed with millimetric precision, preventing unwanted stress on the neighbouring home. Once demolition was complete, the same excavator was used to crush the material on site. An approach that reduced transport, lowered costs, and limited emissions. One machine, multiple operations, and a more sustainable way of managing materials.

– SACRO CUORE URBAN REGENERATION

THREE FLOORS DOWN, TOTAL CONTROL

In Sassari on the Italian island of Sardinia, the urban regeneration of the Sacro Cuore area began with the demolition of a three-storey building on Via Mascagni. The site was located in a dense urban environment, surrounded by nearby buildings and requiring minimal disruption.

On site was a CAT 323 excavator fitted with an MB-PT1650 demolition pulveriser. The structure was dismantled from the top down, floor by floor, ensuring full control throughout every phase of the demolition.

From a technical standpoint, the MB-PT1650 proved particularly suitable thanks to a system that ensures consistent closing force sensitivity and a Hardox steel structure. The result: greater control and enhanced safety in an urban environment.

The evidence from the field is clear: modern demolition is about control, selectivity, and optimisation. MB Crusher demolition pulverisers are not just demolition tools — they’re working instruments designed for those who want to do the job properly, safely, and efficiently. With 2025 coming to a close on a pulverizing high for the Italian crusher attachment specialist, 2026 has begun with new challenges of new job-sites and new solutions.

VÖGELE PAVERS RESURFACE BRNO RACETRACK WITH SPECIAL ASPHALT FROM BENNINGHOVEN PLANT IN TIME FOR GRAND PRIX

RACING TIME TO PAVE A MOTO GP TRACK

International racetracks have particularly stringent requirements with regard to evenness, grip, homogeneous texture and other factors. The aim is to ensure maximum grip and consistent evenness of the surface to guarantee the safety of riders. The work on the 5.4km Masaryk Circuit in Brno in the Czech Republic involved the resurfacing of the entire racetrack: Three SUPER 1800-3i pavers and three MT 3000-2i Standard material feeders from Vögele paved a 2.5cm levelling course and a 4cm asphalt surface course over the entire track width of 15 to 17m.

Apart from precise specifications for both asphalt mix and paving process, the paving team managed by David Tejkal, Construction Manager at general contractor Strabag, faced another challenge: “We had a strict deadline: the track had to be handed over two months before the Grand Prix.”

The first step was to find the perfect material mix for the asphalt required to deliver an ideal track surface that would ensure better grip, allow higher speeds and provide greater safety. The special asphalt was produced in a Benninghoven BA 4000 asphalt mixing plant operated by Brnenska Obalovna / Strabag.

In order to fulfil the stringent quality requirements, the special asphalt had to be paved without interruptions and without any loss of temperature. This was taken care of by precisely coordinated logistics:

Total length, in km, of the resurfaced Masaryk Circuit 5.4

Thermally-insulated trucks delivered the asphalt mix directly to three Vögele MT 3000 2i Standard material feeders. They took on the load in the shortest possible time and continuously conveyed material to the Vögele pavers. In this process, the sensor-controlled conveyor belt heating of the material feeders ensured that the asphalt arrived at the pavers without any heat loss.

This meant a very short preparation period of just four weeks. It was also only possible to work during the day, so a team of 50 workers and five engineers had to be on the site every day.“The tight schedule demanded precise coordination between everyone involved - as well as absolutely reliable, high-performance machine technology,” says Tejkal.

Paving itself was realised with the hot-to-hot method to achieve a seamless surface. The high shear forces on the racetrack during races would otherwise very soon force open any seams or joints.

The three SUPER 1800 3i road pavers worked in parallel in a slightly staggered formation, paving strip to strip across the full track width of 15 to 17m.
