LUCY’S 1st Full Album “Childhood” Childhood, which means freedom, innocence, and pure heart, is a word that contains LUCY's motto, identity, and original intent that they do not want to lose.

In this album, they express freedom and energy through various attempts that are not limited or defined by genre, and their own unaffected, realistic and warm lyrics support this.

Through a truly full album filled with 15 new songs only after 2 years of debut, they showed off their solid production ability and the lyric writing, composition, and singing skills of all the members.

LUCY, a band that has already established itself as a performing band in solo concerts and various festivals, plans to showcase more diverse stages and performances through its first full-length album.

Q: Did you intend anything in specific when it comes down to compositions of the song ‘Play’?

Q: If you were a character from a cartoon, what would be your role and what would be the setting?

Won Sang: When it comes down to <Play>, if you take the lyrics out of the song the song is not exactly the most entertaining compared to the other tracks. I thought it was not the kind of song that people would come back for often, so I wanted to give meaningful and interesting feelings through the lyrics, and I wanted this to have the deepest meaning behind, so I kept the melody and rhythm easy to listen to. But when it comes down to the lyrics, I focused on leaving a clear impression on people and I wanted people to enjoy listening to this song.

Ye Chan: I think I would have tis lightening super power because when you think of lightening, it’s fast and lightening related character have really cool hair, so I think I would be a God of Lightening.

Q: What did you dream of doing when you become an adult as a kid and how does it feel now to be an adult?

Gwang Il: It was something so small, like I wanted to be able to travel alone.

Being free to go anywhere?

I think those are the things I dreamed of. I always wanted to travel a lot ever since I was a kid and now I can go travel anywhere with no restrictions, so I think I’m doing well.

Sang Yeop: I would be a guy in a neighborhood.

Gwang Il: There is a character called Atom. It’s an old character, but I wanted to become Atom once. When I watched Atom.

Won Sang: I thought about this once, but I feel a bit embarrassed. I don’t want to say it.

Q: What’s each member of LUCY’s treasure? When would this sailing end?

GwangIl: I would say “walwalE’ (fans). If we didn’t have our fans, we wouldn’t be here The unconditional love is something very difficult, and I know how much they do for us, so I feel grateful for that.

Ye Chan: I think our treasure is each other. Would we be here without each other? In between our times together we would meet a storm, but we will make it through, and I would love to be together for a long time.

Sang Yeop: My treasure would be my voice. I’m only here because of my voice, so my sail won’t stop as long as I can sing.

Won Sang: I think all 4 of us would want different treasures. We wouldn’t be able to find the treasure in one place all together, but until all of us find the treasure we will sail together.

For all 4 treasures, all 4 of us will sail together. Even if it’s not my treasure, we will be together. And if we find the treasure, I’m not sure if the sailing would continue, but I’m sure we all have the same mind.

Gwang Il: My comment for our album ‘Childhood’ is that everything that happened to us is a part of our childhood, so even if you make mistakes, don’t be disappointed; and I want you to life your confidently.

It’s a time where my friends and I would play outside, get sweaty and dirty, get roughed up, then wash up in time for dinner with my family. It’s a mindset of having fun and being in the moment, never wishing to be older or wanting more.

-Gabe 3. What is your greatest memory from your childhood?

I remember our family vacations very vividly, like when we were watching the 2012 Olympics from our hotel room TV in Atlanta while we were visiting my uncle. We went to the Coca Cola factory and had so much fun exploring. I also love our hiking trips to national parks and the pictures we would take for our Christmas cards.

-Olivia To me, my greatest childhood memory will always be the times when I was playing Pokemon or

Mario Kart on the DS with my friends back in elementary school.

-Anonymous A I can’t remember important events (birthdays, holidays, firsts), but more so random “insignificant” parts?

It’s not the greatest, since everything is so hazy, but I remember during a road trip we stopped at a hotel. The room was so bright and sunny. My grandpa was sitting on fancy couch chair while I was at this low table cutting banana slices, and then I put 3 cheerios on it like a little flower and served it to my grandpa like I was a little chef.

-Anonymous B I used to catch and rehabilitate feral cats with my grandfather, especially during the colder months where they would’ve frozen to death without proper shelter. It makes me feel good to know that I saved some cats’ lives and got them into good home, and I’m glad I got to bond with my grandfather.

4. When you were a child, how did you image your adult self? How is it different from yourself now?

I thought I would be more put together and fully grown up by my 20s, but I realized 20 is still so young and I have so much to learn and grow from.

-Elise As a child, I imagined myself to be a happy adult who would work as a teacher. Now, even though I am happy, I also have stresses.

I have also decided to go on a different career path.

-Jen I honestly didn’t imagine it much different to who I am now, but I would say I thought my childlike tendencies

would disappear but if anything they are as prevalent as ever but I think this is valuable. I am able to find joy in very mundane environments and I lean towards a more humorous and cherished life.

-Anonymous A I imagined myself as a teacher, still doing all of the hobbies as I did as a child, like gymnastics, piano, violin, knitting, etc. I am now a healthcare major and in Philadelphia, not in New York. I still love gymnastics and music but no longer practice it like how I used to, and I have found my passion in healthcare while still practicing teaching by tutoring.

I thought I’d be anything I want to be. Well, I’m gonna be an adult next year, and I still have no idea what to do with my life.

Ye Chan When we were young, everyone grew up in a childhood of unstained innocence. Right now, we experienced a lot of things. As I went through it, I think we lost the pretty hearts we had when we were young. I hope we can find those innocent hearts we lost through our album “Childhood.”

Sang Yeop The wounds received from someone as a child who didn’t know how to respond flexibly to wounds are remembered for quite some time.

But when we think about it, even if the adults admire and envy have those big and small childhood scars, regardless of their age and occupation, we often make them our object of admiration.

Like this, even if you have a scar that is not healed yet, for someone, you’ll be a big adult, too.

Relatively, we tend to forget ourselves, and that’s what I think ‘Childhood’ is.

Won Sang We worked hard making this album thinking every song is the title track.

In all of the tracks have the keyword “Childhood” that LUCY wants to talk about, just like a series without an order, you can listen to it however you want.

In the album ‘Childhood,’ rather than simply saying ‘Let’s find childhood innocence!’ I wanted to say, ‘We are already in our childhood so if there is something you want to do regardless of age, challenge yourself. Don’t blame yourself for being stupid. It’s okay to make mistakes.’

It contains various stories like the comfort that LUCY wanted to give with <Knowhow>, starting from <MP3>, that opened up the door for us to remember our childhood, for the people lost their joy after wanting to become adults soon and reminded by their childhood with <Play>, young love story with <You & Me>, looking back after being responsible for a relationship or a decision for the first time in <Foul>, etc.

Everyone, when you listen to LUCY’s ‘Childhood,’ I hope you can enjoy it thinking of <Play> to live a happier life.

Gwang Il I think you can say that this album ‘Childhood’ is LUCY’s first mindset. I like to think that all the past that has passed bu and continues to [ass by is my ‘Childhood.” So I didn’t limit my songs to one topic and as I kept writing more songs, various topics came put. I this album, we wanted to warm your heart and comfort you with lyrics and music about things we’ve experienced.

I think it will be good if you listen to the album while imagining what your personal ‘Childhood’ was like.

s adults we know when we have spent too much time on screens. We stay up too late scrolling through our feeds or watching Netflix. When we wake up in the middle of the night, we check our phones and then can’t get back to sleep. We waste hours looking at Facebook, jealously eying pictures of other people’s vacations, wondering what ever happened to some old friend (or, more dangerously, old flame). We go down rabbit holes, shopping for products, trying to find a YouTube video someone sent us last year, comparing home prices on Zillow. We often mindlessly consume content simply because it happens to come across our path, not because we think it’s worthwhile.

But at least somewhere in the back of our minds we are aware of the pleasures of life off-screen.

Those of us who are over the age of, say, thirty-five can recall a time when we played outside for hours (till the streetlights came on) without thinking for a moment whether someone was trying to contact us.

Our only concerns were the other kids playing capture the flag or kickball. The feeling of total freedom to wander from one backyard to another, the complete concentration on winning the game—the

immediacy of these experiences is hard for children today to recapture.

If it is not their friends trying to contact them, or writing things about them while they are away from the screen, it is their mother or father wanting to know where they are and when they’ll be back.

Adults can remember what it is like to plant themselves on a couch and read a novel in one afternoon because it was just that good or maybe because there was nothing else to do. They remember what it was like to actually read entire pages of books, not just scan them like we do a web article. They remember what it was like not to worry about the time flying by or the buzzing device next to them on the couch. Or what it was like to not know (and not care) what their friends were up to at that

very moment. Though those days may seem far in the past, the fact that we can still conjure up these memories and feelings puts us at a distinct advantage today: We know an alternative to digital life. If being able to focus for long periods of time on books or face-to-face conversation is a virtue, then at least we have been at some point habituated to it. Many of our children have not.

A Pew survey last year reports that 54 percent of teens say they spend too much time on their cell phone, and 41 percent say they spend too much time on social media. They are even conscious enough of the problem that many have tried to cut back. More than half have said they have tried to reduce their cell phone use, their time on social media, and the hours spent playing video games.

We don’t yet fully know how deep the problem goes, but a growing body of research—for example the work of psychologist Jean Twenge—is pointing us toward the conclusion that the rising rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide in teenagers are correlated with the amount of time they spend with their devices. Some perhaps just say there’s a problem because they’re getting guilt-tripped by their parents—but more likely, they realize their parents are right.

hat children and teens lack, though, is alternatives. Can they remember a time before phones and tablets consumed their attention? When they had no GPS attached to their backpacks?

Do they recall experiences in their lives when they weren’t having to stop what they were doing to have their picture taken for Instagram or when they did not have in the back of their minds the constant hum of their friends talking to and about each other on social media? Do they remember when it was easy to get their parents’ attention—without asking them to put a device down?

Sadly, many do not.

Parents are often told that life lived on screens is the one our kids have to get used to, and this is, unfortunately, largely true. But our goal should be to put off our children’s entry into that phase as long as possible. The point of doing so is not to deny the inevitable—they will most likely have personal and professional lives that will demand they carry a powerful computer in their pockets someday—but rather to create as many experiences as possible without screens so that they can later remember what those experiences were like. Without those memories it’s hard to imagine alternatives to life on screens. In

particular, without memories of good face-to-face conversation, it’s hard to form habits of civil discourse online, or to know how to respond when people say things on social media that they would never say in person.

Of course, we can’t stop other kids from getting phones and social media accounts, and that will inevitably affect our own children’s social lives—though it would be useful to find other families who are adopting the same kind of delay tactics. But we can still give our own children space outside of life online. Sometimes kids are happy when their parents give them excuses to not do things that their peers are doing. Answering texts at all hours of the night, taking the perfect selfie, posting the funniest videos—it’s a lot of pressure, and “my annoying parents won’t let me on Instagram” can be a way out.

Imagine an extra year or two of the freedom from that kind of pressure.

Imagine the number of times your children could sit uninterrupted with a novel or go for a bicycle ride or stay up talking to friends at a sleepover without having to check a phone to see whether they are missing out on some other experience, or what other people are saying about the experience they are having right now.

Forming these habits when our children are young is the only way to make sure they will know what is going awry whenever they do eventually join social media and observe how people talk to each other, and to understand how to adjust their own lives accordingly.

And it is the best way to guarantee that we have more of the kind of meaningful, in-person interactions that social media tends to shortcircuit. Online communication thrives on the quick reaction, the snarky comeback, the parodying of people on the other side of the conversation for the entertainment of a larger audience. If we want to improve our personal interactions, both private and public, we need more experiences in person and fewer online.

Many teens and young adults have a feeling that something is missing in their daily lives, a certain calm that comes from time away from screens, but they are not quite sure how to create it and what to do when they put down their phones. Our devices provide us with a simulation of direct human interaction, the ability to seem as though we are intellectually or socially engaged with people in front of us. But if we want to fix our national dialogue, we will need to remember how to do the real thing.

"Childhood and Philosophy" Paola Marrati There is nothing “childish” about childhood events; they are awfully serious. True psychoanalysis, the social sciences, and anxious parents (like myself) seem to know quite well how those events are important, bound to shape much of children’s future lives. But this is not exactly, or not only, what Cavell is saying.

What he emphasizes is that childhood events are event of the life of mind: they are intellectually powerful, as serious as any adventure of the mind can be. And if this is the case, it is because they face the daunting task of understanding “what the world is, what its things and persons are to expect of each other.” Stanley could not have said more plainly that what is at stake in childhood’s events is “nothing more and nothing less” than what is at stake in philosophy itself–at least in a non professionalized conception of philosophy, which leaves the question open of what “becoming professional” does to philosophy and to those who make of it their job, of what measure of faithfulness or betrayal can be achieved, or tolerated: all important issues for Cavell in Little Did I Know and elsewhere that I leave gladly on the side for today. To happen to us should not come as a surprise to readers of Cavell, nor should the question of what image of reason, or thought, the essential connection between philosophy and childhood brings to the fore. As for the first point, I will only recall that it is precisely from the perspective of the child who is initiated into language that Cavell interprets the Philosophical Investigations, and that it is from the perspective of my (adult) conversation with a child that he develops his marvelous analyses of what it means to learn words and project them in always new contexts in the Claim of Reason. Not to mention the insistent, almost haunting, presence in Little Did I Know of Augustine’s recounting learning to speak in Confessions. It is by taking seriously the point of view of the child that Cavell can say, as he does in Must We Mean What We Say that “…we learn language and learn the world together…they become elaborated and distorted together, and in the same places.” Or, as he does in the Claim of Reason: When you say “I love my love” the child learns the meaning of the word “love” and what love is. That (what you do) will be love in the child’s world; and if it is mixed with resentment and

intimidation, then love is a mixture of resentment and intimidation, and when love is sought that will be sought. When you say “I’ll take you tomorrow, I promise”, the child begins to learn what temporal durations are, and what trust is, and what you do will show worth of trust.

Of course the person, growing, will learn other things about these concepts and “objects” also. They will grow gradually as the child’s world grows.

But all he or she knows about them is what he or she has learned, and all they have learned will be part of what they are.

And what will the day be like when the person “realizes” what he ”believed” about what love and trust and authority are?

And how will he stop believing it? What we learn is not just what we have studied; and what we have been taught is not just what we were intended to learn. What we have in our memories is not just what we have memorized.

As these passages and many other suggest, it is because we come into life as children that philosophy happens to us and will not leave us alone-like others, like ourselves: no matter how hard we try, we can’t escape from such dangerous encounters avoidance is a mode, and a fateful one, of dealing with these encounters and not a way of setting them aside. Such a possibility is not open to us. And then we can understand why Cavell defines philosophy, in its more explicit form, as the education of grown-ups.
