In just one short phrase, that is the entire philosophy of Makedonia Palace Hotel, which has remained intact throughout the years, before as well as after the hotel’s radical renovation. A lot has changed in the hotel’s look and aesthetic aspect, but the values of true hospitality have not only remained unshaken, but have taken even stronger root in the hotel’s foundations.

Makedonia Palace, now fully adjusted to its new “face”, welcomes both its new and its always loyal guests, ready to give them a tour of the renovated premises and to offer them new accommodation experiences. Since its first months of operation following the renovation, the hotel has hosted renowned members of the country’s political and religious leadership; their positive feedback has been the greatest reward and recognition

for all our efforts for the perfect outcome – but also, a great responsibility for us all.

MODEST & GENUINE One could easily call Maria Goncharova the “Iron Lady�, since for several years now, her strong personality and her step-by-step approach have rendered her an integral part of the Dimera Group alongside Ivan Savvidis. Today, she is talking to us about all the things we ignored on herself, her entrepreneurial activities, as well as the long-awaited renovation of Makedonia Palace Hotel.

You are the CEO of Makedonia Palace Hotel and the Managing Director of Dimera Group. Given that the business world is largely male-dominated, have you encountered difficulties in your career?

I would disagree about large domination of men.

And you know that it is a real global change going on right now. Honestly, i did not face any difficulty or tough competition in my career, at least not beacause of my sex. I just always wanted to contribute and be of help to all colleagues and partners of mine. Also I believe that wise combination of men’s and women’s best skills and capabilities leads to the winning strategy in business management.

The Dimera Group has invested in a broad range of business sectors (tourism, sports, media, etc.). What are the qualifications required for the simultaneous management of such disparate activities?

I would name – open mindset and broad life view. Life itself gives the answers to complicated problems if you have open eyes and mind to see them! Continuous updating and studying is required in all sectors, and decisions are taken under great time pressure. If you do not really love your job, everything gets harder day by day. It is the dedication to your job that gives you energy and the willingness to constantly try and improve.

Of course, all of this could not be done without the dedicated associates in every job, who give their 110% to achieve significant results.

What is the status of the investments in a country like Greece that for the past several years has been experiencing a severe economic recession, and to what extent can investments help the country recover?

Despite the fact that Greece has entered a phase of stability, I believe there is room for improvement in investment conditions such as legislation, permitting, financing. Nevertheless, in important sectors of the Greek economy there are important opportunities for private investment.

Such are the tourist and the agri-food sectors, because of both the geographical location of the country and global demand. Investments can make a significant contribution to the country's

economic recovery, starting with the first and most important part, that of creating new jobs.

The most important change in my opinion, unfortunately through great difficulties for Greek people, is that now investments and investors are conceived as part of a solution, not as a problem.

Greece in the past decades had opposite reflexes to enterpreneuring, and this was necessary to change.

Very little is known about you, since for many years you have maintained an exceptionally low profile. What would you like to communicate to the public, either about your personality, or about your business activities?

In general, I would say that I prefer not to attract attention. I am what they say a low-key. It is an element of my character and it comes out effortlessly. Also I prefer facts and deeds to speak instead of your voice. In any case, I do not pursue any visibility, or extroversion, mainly due to my professional activity. You know, I would never want the world to know me through my personal life.

You have been called the “Iron Lady” of PAOK FC. Are you familiar with soccer, or are you only concerned about the team’s financial management?

{Smiling} I hope that this evaluation has a positive input.

In any case, I estimate that it would not be feasible for me to be the financial manager of a football team, without having any knowledge on football. In every kind of business, I think this is a prerequisite. But I never dare to say that “ I know or I understand football”. It’s happen to be much more complicated industry that I

could imagine from outside. Surely, I need some specific knowledge for conducting my daily duties, so I have to go and get it. I study about sports management, sports marketing, the great success stories of big European clubs, meeting and contacting colleagues, etc. I am glad that I know today more football than yesterday, and I am certain that I know today less football than tomorrow!

Now that the large-scale, much-anticipated renovation of Makedonia Palace Hotel is completed, to what extent do you believe that it has helped the image of the hotel itself, and of the city in general?

Our investment for the total renovation of MAKEDONIA PALACE exceeded 20 million euros and contributed decisively to the overall upgrade of the hotel and consequently to its image. We are now talking about a strong competitive offer for the International Travel Account, combining uniquely the rich history with modern design in a context of simple luxury. We have created a reference point for Thessaloniki and the wider

region, which certainly enhances the attraction of visitors from all corners of the globe. We respected the history and symbolism of the hotel to Thessaloniki, and for our perspective, upgrading MAKEDONIA PALACE, means a lot for the upgrading of the cities status as well!

>>> To know us better Vasilis Paschalis was born in Thessaloniki in 1970; being from a family with a history in retail, he became involved in the sector himself from an early age. Under his father’s guidance, he acquired a lot of experience in logistics, negotiations, and human resources management while running his own company. His first contact with the hospitality business was through logistics, when he worked in a tourist establishment in Halkidiki in 1996. Since then, he established his own catering business that he maintained for 10 years. In 2013, after the hotel briefly ceased its operations due to a change in management, he was asked to become head of the hotel’s supplies department and subsequently its operation. In 2017, following a successful record and with the arrival of the new General Manager, he was promoted to Administrative Director.

ΑLWAYS ON DUTY! >>> The essentials Mr. Paschalis describes the basic characteristics that someone in his position must possess: “This job requires a spirit of collaboration, adaptability, responsibility and good communication skills, as well as organization and coordination skills, especially in respect to negotiations. I would have to say that the difficulties include the long hours, multiple responsibilities, and continued focus on everyday demands. The positive elements of this job are the constant communication with different people and the pleasant work environment.”

>>> Τhe duties Mr. Paschalis is in charge of the entire administration team. His role entails ensuring that the company’s strategy is faithfully implemented, and securing the necessary tools and supplies for the smooth and unimpeded operation of the hotel, its catering facilities and the Navona restaurant. Furthermore, he controls the key areas of supplies, negotiations, and deal-making with the group’s supplier companies.

Although his free time is very limited, Mr. Paschalis always tries to take advantage of it by going swimming, bike riding, and spending time with friends.

>>> The ideal cooperation Mr. Paschalis smiles when he speaks of the excellent collaboration between him and his colleagues: “With every colleague, old and new, we have a relationship based on respect and appreciation.I can say that these are the best associates I have ever had. Harmonious collaboration is a fundamental aspect when you work in a field that relies on proper communication. I consider myself very lucky!” >>> The next day We asked Mr. Paschalis his view about the changes to the hotel following the large-scale renovation.

“With the renovation, the hotel has undergone radical changes; all of them were significant since there is no spot that has remained the same. From the imposing lobby, the rooms, to the surrounding outdoor areas, nothing is reminiscent of the hotel’s old aspect. The combination of classic and modern elements, as well as the colour palette that was chosen for the new decorative scheme, are the “weapons”of its impeccable new image. I would say that the hotel’s interiors are now fully aligned with the exterior, creating a continuum in the guests’ eyes.”

It is a warm, comfortable area that has rightfully earned the title of the hotel’s meeting point. And, of course, I couldn’t leave out the veranda of Salonica restaurant, with the amazing view of Thermaikos Bay. Certainly, following the renovation, every area in the hotel has been upgraded, preserving an exceptional aesthetic feel.” >>> My wish “I wish for the renovated Makedonia Palace Hotel to always remain on top, because it deserves it!

Thanos Alexandros Deputy Head of the Regional Authority of Central Macedonia, in charge of Tourism and Culture “Thessaloniki must become a new cultural, gastronomic and tourist co-capital next to Athens, and establish its own brand name.”

The Deputy Head of the Regional Authority of Central Macedonia in charge of Tourism and Culture identifies our city’s “weak spots” and everything that still needs to be done for Thessaloniki to earn its rightful place on the global map.

You are the new Deputy Head of the Regional Authority, in charge of Tourism and Culture. Your studies in the disciplines of Theology and Sociology initially, and in Business Administration later, are quite representative of the city’s tourist profile as a cultural, religious and commercial destination. Was your involvement in politics, and particularly in your current post, a lifelong pursuit, or something that presented itself along the way?

Politics always presents itself; that is how things develop. In essence, it requires a passion for the city and the region, and that was already there. Formal knowledge always helps, but my involvement with politics is mainly due to my love for my city, to my desire for the city to spread its wings. And like most young people, I too wanted to make a small contribution to society. Because, instead of sitting around and complaining, we might as well do something.

Luck and circumstances brought me to this post and I am truly glad, because Tourism is a very interesting sector and very important not just for Thessaloniki, but for all of Greece.

Moving forward, my studies are helpful, but without the contribution of a team and the support of a collective, things cannot get done. Especially today, I believe that we are experiencing a positive moment for our city. I think that following a recession, not just economic, but in general following an overall socio-political rearrangement in Greece, the opportunity presents itself for a collective of young people, such as the Head of the Regional Authority of Central Macedonia, Apostolos Tzitsikostas, and his team, to step up and infuse new life into our city’s openness to the world.

As Deputy Head of the Regional Authority in charge of Tourism and Culture, what is the scope of your purview? And what are the first goals on your political agenda?

My duties involve promoting the Region of Central Macedonia as a tourist destination. The strategic goal of the Administration and of the Head of the Regional Authority is to promote our region as a world-renowned destination for 365 days a year. That is, our strategic goal is to extend the tourist season, to escape the traditional “sun and sea” branding and to promote our region not just as a tourist destination, but as an investment destination. This latter is extremely important, because without private initiative and investment in the tourism sector, we cannot formulate a good product.

Furthermore, culture is also directly related to tourism, and our region’s cultural attractions will be critical in achieving our goals. Thessaloniki is a large, multi-cultural city, with continuous history in Greece and with several archaeological sites that, even though they are only partly developed, are part of a concerted effort to increase their openness, so that we can utilize our cultural resources to propel us forward.

The port of Thessaloniki as a Balkan crossroads together with our production and manufacturing resources are guarantees for the city’s economic and cultural development, as you have rightly stated. Do you believe that, within the framework of our unfavourable economic reality, Thessaloniki will succeed in finding its rightful place, in becoming a tourist, commercial and cultural centre of attraction in Greece and abroad?

The port has essentially defined the city’s history. It was always the greatest commercial link between East and West, and promoting our port was always a necessity. Unfortunately, this was never among the country’s strategic priorities.

However, it appears that with the arrival of a strategic investor, the geopolitical importance of the port may finally emerge and it can be distinguished as a portal into north-eastern Europe from the East, as it always was. Besides, the port of Thessaloniki was always first, and Piraeus [the port of Athens] followed. Our port together with the airport and railway network that connect us with other countries form the basic infrastructure on which we our building the entire level of our development.

In fact, within the framework of the new PA (Partnership Agreement for Development Network), we have highlighted as a basic pillar of our strategy the port of Thessaloniki as a cruise-ship destination.

Thessaloniki is, unfortunately, isolated from the basic cruise routes of Eastern Europe, and we want to include it in this framework so that its port, in addition to the commercial character it has had for almost 2000 years, may also be utilized as a cruise destination, a development that we believe will help promote the entire region.

What is the city’s “strong suite” as a tourist and travel destination? What would you say is its unique offering to its visitors?

What is unique about Thessaloniki is that within a distance of about one hour from the city centre, a traveller can discover almost everything. The Region of Central Macedonia is like a whole country! It is home to the most famous mountain in the world, Mount Olympus; it has exceptional archaeological sites such as Vergina, Amphipolis, and Dion; it has unique ecosystems, lakes, the Axios River Estuary, the Mount Olympus National Park, Mount Paiko, the Halkidiki peninsula, Mount Athos [Holy Mount], and many, many more destinations that I could enumerate for hours. And the most important thing is that the city of Thessaloniki is strategically located at the centre of everything.

So you can understand that the city’s tourism product does not exist only within the urban fabric, but extends well beyond it. But what is essential is to unify this tourism offering, and for accommodation providers to utilize it. We are now at a time when we must escape the logic of only promoting tourism facilities, and start promoting the offering around such facilities. And this because the value chain of the tourism product includes, of course, accommodation, but it also includes services at every level.

What are the basic tourist infrastructures that the city is currently lacking, in order to implement the stages of the level of services that you mentioned, and to raise the value of the tourism product?

Upon first reflection, a resident of Thessaloniki might cite the subway. What else do you consider necessary, in order for Thessaloniki to justify its title as the capital of the Balkans?

Certainly, a city’s basic infrastructure includes the subway, as you said, transportation in general, which we hope to have realized in a few years. However, when someone travels abroad, the most fundamental points are infrastructures related to the airport and the port, and of course the city’s rail link with other countries.

These are the basic infrastructures that, in Central Europe and beyond, aid precisely in the development of the tourism product.

We are lagging in this respect. Unfortunately, Macedonia Airport is not what you would expect for a city of 1.5 million people, located in South-eastern Europe as the portal to the Balkans. There is a strategic investor, that the country is also invested in, whom we expect to make a difference. The same is true for our port and railways; the same is true for our basic transportation infrastructures because, as we said, the tourist experience is not built solely on hospitality and accommodation, but on the overall experience during a visitor’s stay. It is built on where visitors go, how they get there, how safe they feel, even the speed and ease of use of transportation; all of these are part of the tourist experience, which we need to upgrade if we want to upgrade our tourism product.

One of the reference points in every large city are, of course, its hotels. What is your view of the renovated Macedonia Palace Hotel?

Which are the points of reference in Thessaloniki that deserve to be promoted and widely publicized, domestically and abroad?

There is the multi-cultural nature of our monuments: Thessaloniki is home to fifteen UNESCO Cultural Heritage sites. There are also the city’s gastronomic experiences: for many people, Thessaloniki is the gastronomic capital of Greece. Furthermore, it is a destination that appeals equally to youths and to families. It is a destination that we must promote, in order to elevate Thessaloniki to the new cultural, gastronomic and touristic capital of Greece, next to Athens, and to establish the city’s unique brand name.

Thessaloniki is an all-around destination, and the only thing we haven’t succeeded in yet is to establish it as a multi-day destination for visitors, which combines offerings for every season of the year dynamically, equally and of course up to the level of the tourism product.

Macedonia Palace is a city landmark. It is a city feature. It essentially established the city’s tourism identity and I am truly happy that, after many years, it is once again a true gem for the city!

Makedonia Palace has elevated the city’s overall tourism offering, and that is something quite rare, that a tourist facility should elevate the entire destination!

So it is my belief that the renovated Macedonia Palace truly serves the purposes that inspired its creation, as envisioned by the late, great Konstantinos Karamanlis, whose goal was to upgrade the tourism offering of the entire country.

In fact, I also believe that, because the work accomplished has been exceptional both at the level of infrastructures and at the level of services, that the hotel now serves the city not just as a landmark, but also as an important venue for conference tourism, which is the champions league of the tourism sector!

Conference visitors, in addition to being true opinion makers, are also likely – due to their high socioeconomic level – to spend significant amounts of money in the city. And so I believe that Macedonia Palace is an establishment that offers true added value to the city at large.

To what extent do you believe that a hotel such as Macedonia Palace, with its high level of accommodation, catering and conference facilities, can help promote our city abroad?

Macedonia Palace is in and of itself a city sight.

And this is because it is the extension of the Thessaloniki waterfront, which is the first sight that is evaluated by most visitors to the city. In essence, Macedonia Palace “ties” the city’s waterfront together and is an integral part of it.

Makedonia Palace is a barometer of the kind of tourism we aspire to. We want tourism with high added value for the area, beyond the logic of mass tourism that actually devalues the region. By this I do not mean, of course, that we exclude other forms of tourism, but we always aim to quality tourism and quality services are a one-way street to achieving our goal.

The owners of Artion Galleries in Thessaloniki spoke to us about how the city’s public loves art, about the new generation of artists, and about their own favorite “art spots” in the city.

“Certainly the first institutions we will mention as “art spots” in Thessaloniki are the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, which is doing exceptional work, and the Teloglion Fine Arts Foundation. Another exceptional space is the Museum of Byzantine Culture. And of course we have to mention the Port of Thessaloniki, which is home to the Film Museum and the Photography Museum, and also hosts very interesting festivals and art events throughout the year. A multi-faceted personality, an exceptional artist and a very discrete human being – Evridiki magically combines different elements both in her personality and in her music. She spoke to us about her new album and her successful, 25-year music career!

Twenty five years in the music business – a truly significant milestone for your career that you recently celebrated with a sold-out concert at the Veakeio Theatre, together with other beloved artists and friends.

How would you describe with one word your course in the music business so far?

A colourful, melodic journey, full of passion and contradictions. That is why I love what I do; because through every step of this journey I have come to know myself better. So, a journey…

Speaking of a twenty-five year career, it certainly must include many special memories. Do any stand out especially for you? Is there an incident, whether at a concert, a recording, or even with one of your fans, that will remain unforgettable for you?

Live concerts, recordings, several participations in the Eurovision Song Contest, even the role of judge on a talent show. Your personal portfolio is full. Is there something in all of these that you enjoy more, or something that you think better expresses your personality?

There are many memories, special moments, amazing collaborations, small “surprises” by young fans who chose this way to express their love and admiration. After so many years it is difficult to pick just one, but I will mention the “first times” that I always recall with affection. The first meeting with Mr. Philippos Papatheodorou at EMI in the summer of 1989; that was when I signed my first contract. My joy was immense, just like the first time I heard one of my songs on the radio.

My first audition with [renowned Greek composer] Nikos Hatzinasios; my first big concerts at the Veakeio and Lycabetus theatres. My first musical theatre shows, and my collaborations with great artists that I have admired since I was little, and who have taught me so much – such as Vasilis Papakonstantinou and Kostas Tournas. And many, many, many more, for which I am proud and happy.

Every moment is unique, special, and has its own importance to me. In everything I do, I always invest 100% of myself. In any case, I only get involved in a project if it appeals to me, it gives me meaning and I care about it deeply. But something that I always found charming, but did not know in advance if I would be up to the challenge, was children’s theatre. Through children’s shows that I did, Kelly Stamoulaki saw me and asked me to star in a children’s musical; I accepted right away, because I have always had excellent chemistry with children, and I adore musicals. And I am truly glad I did it, because I discovered another part of me, which I also loved. The part that projected my joyful side and that freed the child inside me to come out and play!

Your constant involvement with many different things is also an aspect of your music; over the years, we have seen you move along pop, rock, and contemporary Greek musical paths, participating in concerts with Vasilis Papakonstantinou. Ultimately, which is the musical style that best defines you as an artist?

I don't like putting labels on my music, nor on the music that I listen to, because I listen to almost everything and I love almost everything. I don't distinguish music by “style”, but by its “truth”. So I could say that I am just a person, like any other, who wants to express herself. Sometimes I want to laugh and dance like a child, and then my joyful pop side comes out; other times I get sad or afraid or stressed or angry or in love, and so on stage you see all of these different aspects of me. It is not musical styles speaking, but everything I have hidden inside me, and all the artists that I grew up with and the images I have in my mind that have accompanied or haunted me since childhood.

You are an artist with a dynamic “artistic” presence and at the same time a low-key personality, and very discrete about your personal life. How easy is it to achieve this balance in show business?

I don't want to be provocative, I don't want to impose on others or to be imposed upon, but sometimes I like to share my joy. I believe that when you show respect for yourself and for those around you, others will respect you in return.

Despite your long and remarkable career in music, your name has never been involved in any “feud” with other artists. On the contrary, many of your peers were there at the Veakeio Theatre to celebrate with you your 25 years in music. Is it possible to have real friendships between artists?

It is possible to have real friendships, and it is possible to have relationships based on mutual appreciation, respect and affection. I admire many of my colleagues and feel affection for them, I have expressed this publicly many times, and I was happy to discover that many of my favourites feel the same way about me, which is why they honoured me with their presence at my concert “25 forever”, on September 13 at the Veakeio Theatre.

It was a magical evening that I will remember for many, many years to come, and I thank them all from the bottom of my heart.

At that concert, you also presented for the first time your new album, out now by Panic Records, which consists of adaptations of your first songs with Giorgos Theophanous. Can you tell us a little bit about this project? What should we expect from this album?

It is an amazing project, full of songs I love that were successfully rearranged by Kostis Pyrenis, Bob Katsionis and Victory in Rio. What makes this project special, in addition to the fresh sound of the songs, is that all of them are performed as duets with incredible female voices. So, you will hear “The only thing I remember” with Demy, “Hate me” with Paola, “How little you know me” with Georgia from the band Blue, “Go away” with Elena Paparizou, “I am human too” with Peggy Zina, and many other surprise covers with my good friends Kaiti Garbi, Sophia Vossou, Tamta, Despina Olympiou, Penny Baltatzi, Thomais Apergi, Charis Savva, and Melina Aslanidou. A group of women with unique voices, each one making her own special mark on my songs.

Of course, 25 forever appeals to all of us… an idea by our beloved Nikos Tagis, both the title and the concept of the entire project, and for that I thank him.

Thessaloniki is a city that you love and you always make a point of including it in your tours, but also visiting on your own time. Have you had the chance to visit the now renovated Macedonia Palace Hotel?

What did you think of the renovation and the new “look” of our city’s most historic hotel?

I love Thessaloniki. I have visited countless times in all the years that I have been in Greece, and I have one more reason to feel a special bond to the city because here I have beloved friends that are like family to me, and also my youngest godchild – another good reason to visit all the more often. I have stayed at Μakedonia Palace several times, and I always enjoyed my stay and the staff’s hospitality.

The renovation of the hotel’s premises has been amazing. The contemporary design together with the luxury touches, minimalist lines in furnishings, warm and earthy colours, the restaurant with a view of the sea and the White Tower, and the modern amenities, render the hotel the perfect choice for accommodation for both tourists and business travellers. That is why everyone considers Makedonia Palace a true gem for the city.

How important is the marketing strategy for a large enterprise?

One of the definitions of strategy has been provided by Michael Porter: “Strategy consists of doing different things than your competitors, or doing the same things differently.”

In a broader sense, a good strategy offers direction, assists decision-making, concentrates everyone’s efforts and coordinates activities, greatly reduces uncertainty, and defines a viable competitive advantage.

As the Marketing Manager of Mediterranean Cosmos, what do you enjoy most about your work, and which part would you describe as the most difficult?

What I most enjoy about my job is… my job!

I know it sounds cliché, but I feel especially lucky that throughout my career I have had the opportunity to develop successful strategies, based on creativity and innovation. The hardest, and at the same time the most interesting aspect of my job is communicating with people, because marketing is all about satisfying their needs, which is exceptionally hard to do, but also definitely something that makes you better, helps you improve as a professional and be capable of handling even the most challenging situation.

Why is Mediterranean Cosmos the ultimate shopping & entertainment destination for the public of Thessaloniki and beyond?

Some basic elements that an effective marketeer must possess are the following: First of all, an understanding of the customer. Getting to know the customer is the most important stage in the marketing process. The more accurate the information and knowledge obtained, the more effective the communication of the product.

Information will enable you to create an effective, well-structured and strategic marketing plan. As Dan Zarrella writes, “Marketing without information and data is like driving blindfolded.”

Together with getting to know the customer, a marketeer must follow the socio-political zeitgeist, both locally and globally.

Another important skill that a successful marketeer must possess is to be able to create clear messages and to invest in people. People are the most valuable resource.

The renovation of Makedonia Palace has brought new air to the hotel and to the city of Thessaloniki in general. What is your opinion of its new “face”?

Please tell us about the collaboration between Makedonia Palace and Mediterranean Cosmos, two important trademarks for Thessaloniki and Northern Greece.

Makedonia Palace is an exceptional hotel, a true “gem” and landmark for the city of Thessaloniki.

The completed renovation has restored all of its glory and it is certain that the city itself needed something like this.

I believe that a partnership between two large enterprises, such as Makedonia Palace and Mediterranean Cosmos, is almost intuitive, always towards the goal of improving our city’s image.

Tell us a little bit about your blog.

I started it about four and a half years ago with my friend Vasia, who has since left.

We admired bloggers from other countries and dreamed of doing the same one day.

Back then, blogging was just starting out in Greece.

Everybody is talking about your very distinct hair and amazing style. What are your most prominent characteristics?

I love to experiment and to be daring in my looks and my outfits. I have always loved change, so I couldn’t resist the urge to colour my hair in my favourite hue - pink!

At this point I think it has become my trademark, and I don't know how – and if – I am going to change it. Having pink hair makes me happier and more optimistic.

Do you see yourself evolving into a fulltime blogger, with this being your main activity?

That has already happened. I believe that, in order to succeed, at some point you need to devote yourself fully to something.

It takes a lot of work, a lot of time and energy, so going full-time is unavoidable.

Which piece should not be missing from any woman’s closet?

The piece that makes her feel beautiful and at ease. For one woman, it may be the little black dress that always makes her look great; for another, it may be the chunky sweater that makes her feel cool and relaxed. There are no rules!

Do you follow trends?

I use trends for inspiration, but I do not adopt them without first infusing them with my own personality and taste.

Which is the greatest style mistake that women make?

There are no style mistakes. Women should wear what makes them happy – and I say this in all honesty. Having said that, I don’t like to see women dress up solely to be appealing to men. If we treat our own bodies like pieces of meat, how do we expect to get along with ourselves and love ourselves? This is a big discussion…

Do you believe that style is something that we are born with, or something that can be “bought" along with the right clothes?

Money can buy you fashion and the latest trends. Style cannot be bought. It is innate, but it is also subjective.

Have you ever visited Macedonia Palace Hotel?

Yes, I have been to the hotel for photo shoots for work – it is an ideal venue for this purpose! It is exceptionally tasteful, minimal and elegant without unnecessary excesses.

What do you wish for the future?

To keep getting better at what I do, while remaining the same person I am today.

To travel more, combining travelling with blogging, and to ultimately accomplish all that I have dreamed of.

Tell us a little bit about your blog.

I started out as a beauty journalist seven years ago and I continue to this day, working as beauty editor at Marie Claire magazine and on the “Happy Day” TV show on Alpha channel. At some point, I decided to start my own YouTube channel and create a personal blog as auxiliary elements to my job. The enchantment of direct contact won me over, and now Souzana’s Beauty Secrets on YouTube and issuemagazine.gr are almost 2 years old.

What is beauty to you?

My passion, my job, my hobby, a makeup product, a face cream, a skincare product.

But mostly, it is authentic smiles, people with a natural glow and clear eyes. Which is why beauty nowadays is so rare, but also so real!

Which is the basic product that should not be missing from any beauty cabinet?

A very good face moisturizer. Moisturizing is the be-all and end-all of maintaining glowing, youthful skin, and an important anti-ageing measure. It is perhaps the only product that a woman will always apply, changing its action, composition and ingredients depending on her age and skin needs.

Which are your favourite new-season trends?

Smudged burgundy lips. The edge of the lip disappears and burgundy lipsticks are applied with the fingertips, to achieve the desired smudgy effect. I also love the return of glitter. What girl doesn’t want a little extract shine?

Which is the biggest mistake women make in their everyday beauty care?

Using the wrong foundation. And by this I don't just mean the wrong tone, but also product texture and application.

Foundation was not created to give a “fake” result, but to provide a uniform skin tone and to naturally cover any imperfections. Choose products that match your skin needs and your natural skin tone.

What is your daily beauty routine?

Good face cleansing with makeup-removal products and a cleansing foam, tonic lotion, serum, skin moisturizer and eye cream, and sunscreen every morning even if it’s snowing! In the wintertime, I use a night cream with richer texture and I try to apply cleaning masks 1-2 times a week.

Name three beauty tips for fall.

Always keep a bold-coloured lipstick in your purse; moisturize well; and don’t forget to clean your face properly.

Have you ever visited Macedonia Palace Hotel?

I visit Thessaloniki at least 2-3 times a year; I have often stayed at Makedonia Palace.

No matter how many years have passed, it remains the jewel of Thermaikos Bay! It has the best location, impeccable service, and beds so comfortable that I have never missed my own! (laughs) What are your plans for the future?

Establishing my own fashion brand with handmade, one-piece kimonos, “Unique Kimonos”, which you can find online at uniquekimonos.com.

Where was your first trip together, as truevoyagers?

In Croatia, with Dubrovnik as our first stop.

But the destination that really changed the way that we perceive travelling was Tokyo.

All the unique experiences we had, we needed to share with the world somehow.

We feel that no journey should seem like an unattainable dream and that with the right help, anyone can organise their own excursion. That is how we decided to start the blog.

In relation to other travel blogs, how does yours reflect your personalities?

We like beautiful images, and that is why we have focused on photographs; you can see there are plenty of them illustrating each of our travel stories. At the same time, we also wanted to make our own personal mark in our stories, by citing different places we have visited that are off the beaten path, so as to differentiate ourselves from typical travel guides.

In which country in the world could you live permanently?

Singapore was an amazing surprise to us, especially in how it combines the traditional with the modern. We could definitely live there, since it offers exceptional quality of life and it is a very multicultural country. Our only concern would be the excessive heat and humidity!

How do you pick your next destination?

The primary factors are airplane tickets, in combination with our desires. When we find a good offer on tickets for a destination that is on our wish list (and it is an extensive list!), then we take advantage of the opportunity and book our trip right away!

Which are the three most unique places that we should definitely visit in Greece?

The island we love the most is Tinos, because it combines traditional villages, a unique view of the Aegean, tasty local cuisine and welcoming people. For those who enjoy nature we recommend the Dadia region in Evros, with its rare biodiversity, the Silk Museum in Soufli, and the endangered black vultures. The towns of Kastoria and Xanthi are also lovely destinations that do not usually feature at the top of people’s preferences.

When you prepare for a trip, what do you always take with you?

Usually, we start with a little research on our destination. For sure, we always pack sunscreen and basic first aid supplies. Of course, we also include our electronic gear (camera, smartphone, action camera), to capture the best possible material for our blog!

What is your “lucky charm” before you take off for a new destination?

Our favourite motto is the one that also gave us the name for our blog, from “The Flowers of Evil” by Charles Baudelaire: “But the true voyagers are only those who leave/Just to be leaving; hearts light, like balloons,/ They never turn aside from their fatality/ And without knowing why they always say: “Let’s go!””

Have you ever visited Macedonia Palace Hotel?

Whenever we visit the city of Thessaloniki, we always make a point of enjoying a hearty breakfast with a view of the sea, and to have an aperitif at Navona before continuing on our walk along the New Waterfront.

What else are you working on right now?

We are working on a start-up in the tourism sector, with a focus on travellers visiting Greece, with the support of the ΕGG (Enter Grow Go) program from Eurobank and Corallia. Soon our readers will notice many changes to our site, since we will be incorporating tourist services and tour packages that are recommended by us and by other Greek start-ups. Stay tuned!

How do you manage to express your personality through pastry making?

I would say that, by now, my personality is pastry making! Having turned my favourite pastime into a profession, every aspect of Melina the person is now associated with that! I offer people around me a bit of sweetness when they are down; I “take it out” on baking when I am not at my best. I cook when I am happy…

So, as you see, everything revolves around that!

What were the main influences that led you to get involved with what you do?

Various Greek and foreign pastry makers and bloggers. I would watch their work and dedication and then one day I just said: “I think that is what I want to do.”

Where did your blog get its name from?

The blog’s name conceals a bittersweet story. The prefix, Meli- comes from my name or – for the most romantic among us – from the Greek word for honey. The second part, Soula, was my mother’s name; she passed away a few years ago.

Who is your audience? melisoula.gr is addressed to anyone who loves food, so basically to everyone! My main emphasis is always baking, with a focus on the cookies and cakes I make for everyone, but we also highlight good food. So a visitor to our site will discover ideas for quick and easy sweet and savoury recipes, features on people and places in Greece related to food and the good life, and they can view the gorgeous pictures we take of everything that we bake and eat!

Ultimately, is pastry making something that you “have” or a skill to be learned?

I believe it is a combination of both. If you don’t love what you do, if you’re not passionate about it – because to me, that is what it means to “have it” – then no matter how much you train, it will never work for you. Likewise, if you don't have at least some basic knowledge, no matter how much you love doing it most times things will not work out!

What else are you involved in?

My formal education was in information technology and I worked in the IT sector for a few years, so now I think I have combined everything I love: pastry making, communication, technology. So, in addition to making pastries for anyone who asks me and writing in my blog, I also help out various catering and other businesses with their communication.

FAVORITES: Ingredient: Cinnamon, bittersweet like all women!

Cookery book: I can’t pick just one, because all the cookbooks in my bookcase include things I love.

Perhaps, if I had to, I would choose Loxandra, who was a pioneer.

Recipe: I can’t resist stuffed tomatoes and peppers and anything that is typically Greek “mom” cooking!

Dessert: Ice cream, even though it is not exactly dessert.

The secret for a successful dish: You, too, must enjoy what you are making.

Motto: Love and care are always the first ingredients to any successful recipe!

What are the standout features of Makedonia Palace for you?

I think when the renovation is complete it will be amazing! The swimming pool and Navona restaurant have always been among my personal favourites.

Together, Infinity War and its sequel will cost 1 billion dollars, a record amount for

a film production. The two films are currently in production simultaneously, and they will be released in movie theaters on May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019, respectively. Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland, Anthony Mackie, Chris Pratt and Sebastian Stan hold the lead parts. We can’t wait!

House of Cards, the big finale In anticipation of the 6th and final season “House of Cards”, the global hit show, will come to an end in June of next year. After five super-successful seasons Netflix announced at the end of October that it is ending one of the public’s favorite shows due to the involvement of its protagonist, Kevin Spacey, in a scandal of sexual allegations. We can’t help but wonder, is Frank Underwood also going to be punished in the grand finale?

In addition to the opening of its museum, the Saint Laurent fashion house grabbed the limelight on the international fashion stage this season through its events, including the presentation of its SS18 collection under the Eiffel Tower.

Jake Gyllenhaal is the new face of the global campaign for Eternity, the fragrance by Calvin Klein.

The 36-year-old award-winning actor appears in the official campaign for the fragrance together with model Liya Kebede and little Leila, a super-sweet 4-year-old actress! The campaign was shot by famous photographer Willy Vanderperre.

The three protagonists also star in the TV spot, which focuses on the “fragrance’s timeless ideal of love, romance, intimacy and commitment”, as the company said.

Eternity was launched for the first time in 1988 by Calvin Klein. In 1989 it won the Most Successful Women’s Fragrance award at the FiFi Awards, and in 2003 it was inaugurated into the Fragrance Hall of Fame!

As part of the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of Centre Pompidou, Parisbased GGSV design studio has created an interactive installation dedicated to children. Like a journey of the imagination into the heart of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the event includes multimedia sculptures, inflated houses, and a performance by the famous Chinese artist Liu Bolin.

The result is a combination of bright colors and abstract structures, which reference artists such as René Magritte, Sol LeWitt, Karel Appel and Salvador Dali, whose works are on exhibit at Centre Pompidou.

Centre Pompidou was designed by Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano in 1977; since then, it has had more than 155,000,000 visitors.

““Till we see each other again”, those were the words we heard again and again on January 3rd. The image of the empty hotel lobby and 300 employees exchanging gifts and hugging each other goodbye will never be erased from our memories.

A strong mix of emotions, joy together with sadness, had flooded our hearts. For us, the rebranding project had just begun! Samples, vendors, files, new designs, these were our first and last thoughts every day for the next four months. At the same time, dust, noise and cold kept us company in our makeshift office in room 813. After that experience, any challenge is children’s play for us!”

In January 2017, the Sales Department moved to the 8th floor, suite 810. The amazing view of Thermaikos Bay and the city of Thessaloniki together with the noise and dust of the works and the snowfall during the first month of the year were a true challenge and unique experience for all of us. The excitement in the Sales Department about the hotel’s renovation was palpable, as day by day we watched the designs and mock-ups gradually come to life. Every day over four months we watched the changes to the hotel and tried to convey them to our customers, who were just as eagerly waiting to see the final outcome of the renovation. Four months, an unforgettable experience that brought our team even closer together.

“The most farcical event that I recall from the renovation period was the time when I was in room 817 (which was a wonderful substitute office for four months) getting ready to leave, the last person still on the floor, and with great surprise I realize that the door has no handle! So now I am locked inside this room, with no light, at minus four degrees Celsius! Lucky me, there were still some renovation employees around who discovered me… amazing feeling, being discovered!”

The hotel’s reception & lobby areas have been fully renovated, both aesthetically and functionally, offering a taste of what follows.

The heart of Makedonia Palace, the reception area, is now visually divided into two spaces. The hotel’s “face” on Megalou Alexandrou Avenue is the first warm welcome extended to guests, while the second area is accessible from the waterfront and marks the entrance to the Business Centre. Two “faces”, one aesthetic philosophy, one incomparable culture of hospitality.

Black marble from Melissochori interchanged with white Dionysus marble, wallpaper or mirror wall investments, the ceiling dressed in gold leaf, authentic brass used across the entire lobby, a unique front desk that creates reflections throughout the space… all elements that compose an environment of exceptional luxury, both distinguished and discreet, centred on guests.

RECEPTION & LOBBY The lobby area is light and vibrant, open yet still defined. The projected sense of balance and comfort is the ideal precursor to the experience guests can enjoy in their rooms or suites. A specially arranged area with a prominent bioethanol fireplace invites guests to relax on the large, comfortable couches against the backdrop of the lightfilled atrium with the impressive vertical garden. In the lobby guests will now also encounter a small shopping area, and for the first time a fully equipped hammam (steam bath) facility that has enriched the already unique services on offer.

In the hotel’s renovated rooms and suites, luxury meets comfort through classic design, and exclusive services combine warmth with elegance. Clean, timeless design, geometries, colour balance, and warm, earthy materials create an ambience of relaxation and unassuming luxury. The heavy furnishings and dark hues of old have been replaced with high-quality but more restful materials, colours and decorative elements. The high-tech features and automations installed in every room are quite impressive, since guests can now control the lighting and air conditioning in their rooms form their smartphones or tablets.

The plentiful natural light that streams into the rooms together with the bright colours and unimpeded view of the sea provide a sense of freedom. The Coco-Mat beds that have been installed in all rooms and suites provide absolute rest. The walls have been decorated with black and white prints by photographer Alexandra Prassa, featuring famous city landmarks and points of interest.

ROOMS & SUITES The fully refurbished bathrooms are equipped with all modern amenities, while the branded bathroom products will offer you enjoyable personal care moments.

Finally, Junior & Deluxe Suites include some additional amenities, such as tea and coffee service. It should be noted that on all renovated floors, some standard rooms have been linked to create a new type of accommodation, the connecting room, perfectly suited for family accommodation.

Makedonia Palace always was, and still remains renowned for the impeccable hosting of every type of conference or event. Today, following the hotel’s total renovation, an exclusive business section has been created that guarantees the success of every small business meeting or large demanding conference. It includes an upgraded conference hall, a 900 sq.m. ballroom, and a fully functional, 2,000 sq.m. conference centre. Although the conference halls maintain their now historic names, their form and layout has changed.

The Αristotelis and Alexandros halls have been merged to create one large ballroom that can accommodate up to 1,000 guests, and they can also be divided into four separate rooms thanks to small interventions. The natural light – a rarity in most conference halls, the exceptional view and the large verandas are additional elements that render the hotel’s conference areas unique. Finally, the new audio-visual equipment can meet every specialized requirement, completing the high-level facilities of the conference halls.

CONFERENCE HALLS Alexandros I is the larger conference hall. It is ideal for hosting large-scale conferences and meetings. With a capacity of 347 persons, it impresses with its natural light, private balcony, unique view of Thermaikos Bay, and technical equipment. Alexandros II also has a large capacity that can accommodate conferences.

The new aesthetic adopted in the conference halls is a continuation of the luxurious feel that is prevalent in all of the hotel’s areas, turning business into an enjoyable experience.

The Hammam Experience in Thessaloniki‌ The Way it Used to Be The revival of the traditional city baths that relax, purify and rejuvenate the body and spirit. A journey for the body and soul.

Well-being and holistic healing as the natural extension of the centuries-old tradition of communal bathing inspired the creation of a hammam [steam bath] at Makedonia Palace Hotel. Incorporating the Ottoman tradition of the city baths in Thessaloniki, the Hammam Baths is a facility devoted to the secrets of well-being and the beauty of the steam bath. The hammam is structured around the water element; beauty, well-being, and the balance of physical and mental health, which are aspects of bath philosophy in every culture, remain central to the process.

Escaping the daily grind into an oasis of beauty, warmth and serenity can start with our most popular service, the Ali-Mama Hammam. It starts with a steam bath to open skin pores and relax the

muscles. After about 30 minutes, our masseurs start the treatment with deep exfoliation using a special glove, followed by a full-body wash and muscle-relaxing massage with the foam from natural olive oil soap; the service is completed with a shampoo and scalp massage. The treatment offers a very special and enjoyable experience, intended to revive the childhood feelings of care when being bathed by our mothers. The renovation of Makedonia Palace Hotel is complete, and four members of its staff spoke to us about the hotel’s new image, their strongest memories from working here and the secrets for working together effectively, and shared their wishes for the now revived, greatest hotel in Northern Greece.

My position at Makedonia Palace Hotel is Front Office Manager, meaning I am in charge of the hotel’s reception services.

My relationship with Makedonia Palace started on June 1st, 2004, when I first came here to complete my internship as a student of the Tourism Professions School in Rhodes, Greece. I stayed on as a full-time employee and on January 1st, 2014, I became the hotel’s Front Office Manager.

My strongest memory from the hotel so far was when Makedonia Palace closed at the end of 2012 and reopened in March 2013. I remember the first day of being back in operation, when we were expecting the arrival of a large group. That was the moment when I realized that, for me, Macedonia Palace was not just a job, but a part of me.

Following the renovation, Makedonia Palace has undergone a radical change. It went from classic to modern, and the outcome shows that people have embraced the change. I think that overall the renovation was very successful.

Throughout all my years at Makedonia Palace, my relations with my colleagues have always been good. I believe that the secret to having good relationship is communication.

Whenever there is a problem, we must talk about it and work out a solution in a calm and civilised manner.

My wish for the renovated Makedonia Palace is for it to not only remain at the top in Thessaloniki, but to reach the top in Greece. That is my dream.

"I wish that both Makedonia Palace Hotel and the city of Thessaloniki will achieve the positioning My position is Conference and Events Manager. I handle and process requests pertaining to the organization of conferences, corporate and social events.

I started working at Makedonia Palace Hotel 10 years ago as a front desk employee, and two years later I was transferred to the sales department and specifically to events. Two years after that I left the hotel; when it reopened under its new management, I returned in the position that I hold to this day.

My strongest memory is this: One night, working at the front desk, I received a phone call from a colleague at another hotel in the city, saying that one of their guests wanted to talk to me; he was unhappy with his room and wanted an upgrade. Because we were almost fully booked at the time and he wanted a sea-view room, I informed him that all we had available was the presidential suite. He booked it on the spot and 15 minutes later I was checking in Colin Farrell!

The Makedonia Palace renovation has been truly amazing.

It has transformed the hotel into a contemporary, modern space while preserving the features that showcase its history.

Special emphasis has been paid both to leisure guests and to the specialised business clientele, with the corresponding arrangement of the common areas, while the creation of the spa and the 9th floor will increase the added value of the hotel’s services.

In our new conference centre, we now have a versatile ballroom that can host up to 1000 guests, a total of 11 different rooms and a large pre-function area. Combined with our 276 rooms and suites, we can now host conferences with global scope. All of our audio-visual equipment has been upgraded and in collaboration with the dedicated a/v department we can cover even the most demanding specifications.

Relations between colleagues are good, considering most of us have known each other and worked together for years.

Certainly there are momentary tensions, but the point is to always find solutions with respect to providing good service and satisfaction to our guests.

Mutual understanding in problems that may occur and respect for each other as a person is the secret for good collaboration. We are all cogs in a machine that needs every single one of us to work properly.

I wish that both Makedonia Palace Hotel and the city of Thessaloniki will achieve the positioning they deserve in international markets and will become sought-after destinations for international conferences and for top-tier guests.

I have been working at the hotel for the past four years; right before the renovation, I was promoted to Floor Supervisor.

Together with the housekeeping staff we ensure the smooth operation of the floors, proper care and cleanliness of all areas. We are the “eyes” of the front desk and, after them, the first people that come in contact with our guests on a daily basis, and so we are the recipients of their needs and requests.

If you want to do your job properly, regardless of your post, you must think like a guest: how would you like to find your room when you return? What wouldn’t you want to have to deal with during your stay? The entire Makedonia Palace Hotel staff consists of people who are consistent and considerate– possibly the two most important values for guests. Our collaboration is impeccable; I would say that we complete each other’s efforts. I get very attached to the people I work with; ever since I started working at the hotel, I felt a sense of warmth and security, that I can be myself on every level.

Something I will never forget is an American guest who wanted to give me a gift on my name-day, because we had developed a strong rapport during her stay at the hotel.

At the time I was working as a server at the hotel’s café – bar, and I knew just by looking at her when she wanted her coffee. It is wonderful to be on the receiving end of people’s trust. This special bond makes you feel complete.

After the renovation, Makedonia Palace has acquired a new aura. Now, the handsome and exceptionally functional facilities are in perfect alignment with the unique view of the waterfront. In respect to services there hasn’t been any change, since even before the renovation the hotel’s main goal was, and still remains, to meet and exceed every guest’s needs.

I believe that the best part of my job is my contact with people and the feeling of making a contribution. The hard part –if I could call it that – is the large amount of information a person in my position must manage. I think it is of paramount importance to be flexible and to not abdicate responsibility for anything that may go wrong. If you maintain a positive outlook, everything is eventually resolved.

I would like to wish for Makedonia Palace to always be fully booked, and for its people to be full of energy and zeal!

"Μy wish for Makedonia Palace has already come true with the renovation"

I work at the maintenance department of Makedonia Palace Hotel. My duties involve repair and maintenance for all of the hotel’s facilities, indoors and outdoors. Anything pertaining to construction and investment falls within the scope of my duties, including small repairs and maintenance to furnishings, wallpapers and carpeting.

I joined the hotel’s staff in February of 2014 and my course so far has been both positive and ascending; what I mean is that my work experiences on a daily basis provide me with important knowledge that helps me evolve in my chosen profession.

I could recount several different incidents that have become strong memories for me. However, the memory that holds the top spot for me is of the day when the renovation started, and specifically when the machinery showed up and started demolishing the lobby and reception area. An area that was vibrant and alive with people for decades was being demolished right before my eyes, to be replaced by something new, fresh and modern.

In my opinion, the renovation was necessary for Makedonia Palace. A hotel that was both a legend and an icon for the city appeared stuck in past eras. Now, a new line has been introduced in the decoration with an emphasis on a fresh, rich yet minimal look, and this has changed the aspect of the entire hotel. And, of course, this has also had a positive effect on all of us.

I believe that the work ethic I have demonstrated over the past four years has made me likeable to my colleagues and easy to work with.

In any case, the secret for successful collaboration, not just here but anywhere, is teamwork. Our common goal is to achieve the best possible result, always in respect to the guests. And I am happy that this attitude is prevalent in the maintenance department, where we complete each other’s efforts until we reach our goal.

I think that my wish for Makedonia Palace has already come true with the renovation. What I mean is, Makedonia Palace has regained its lost prestige and once again made its powerful mark in our beautiful city!

>>> To know us better Elias Tsikrikis’ first encounter with cooking came at an early age: in the summer months, he worked at a small taverna in Platamonas, Pieria, where he is from. He has since graduated from the Thessaloniki School of Tourism Professions and worked in several hotels in Greece, culminating in his collaboration with Mr. Zisis Kerameas, whom he considers his mentor.

As the Sous Chef, he is the Chef’s right-hand man and no. 2 in command in the kitchen. His role, as he revealed to us, requires great trust and dedication and an excellent understanding of the Chef’s way of thinking, as he is the link between the Chef and the kitchen staff.

>>> Smile is the answer Difficulties at work are a given, but Mr. Tsikrikis believes they can be overcome with a smile and the right “maneuvering”. The most pleasant part of a chef’s job comes from the smiles of satisfaction on the customers faces, their firm handshakes and the phrase “we will see you again soon”. Hardships exist in every job, and all you have to do is push past them and handle them correctly.

Speaking of the renovation, the hotel’s Sous Chef noted how important it is for a chef to be working in impeccable and fully equipped facilities where he has everything he needs to fully display his talent! He pointed out that the hotel’s kitchens have been completely refurbished and they meet all required specifications and adopt product safety and preparation guidelines according to the HACCP and ISO standards. In the main restaurant, Salonica, customers have a direct line of sight into the open kitchen and can watch the dishes being prepared. This makes Salonica a flavour destination in its own right and it also contributes to the showcasing of quality products made in the region of Macedonia and in Greece in general. The dishes that Mr. Tsikrikis recommends that we definitely try at Salonica include the “Octopus with sour cherry sauce and lemon mousse”, as well as the “Lamb in meatballs with roasted sweet peppers and smoked aubergine”, which are based on new techniques and ingredient combinations that the restaurant’s kitchen staff have been trying out! As he noted, even though Salonica has only been in operation for 5 months, the reviews have been excellent. For him, the highlight was when a patron said “Once again, we eat as well here as in the old ‘Porfyra' restaurant that used to be on the 9th floor!” >>> Put some soul in food Which is his favourite recipe? All of them! As he explains, he loves simple, fresh food, and his motto is a phrase from a famous foreign chef, who said this: “A recipe has no soul; you need to add the soul to the recipe.” >>> Favorites His favourite spot in the hotel is the 9th floor, since he finds the view enchanting. In his limited spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family. >>> Team for the win Speaking about collaboration in the kitchen, he considers it necessary for everyone working around him to be agreeable people who are eager to work. The Dragon’s Cave

Doltso

It is located on the north side of Kastoria, a few metres from the lakeshore. Wander around inside and admire the impressive stalactites, the 7 subterranean lakes, 10 halls and 5 tunnels. The Dragon’s Cave is also the sight of paleontological findings, including bones from Ursus Speleaus (cave bears), a species that went extinct 10,000 years ago.

Walk around the stone-paved streets of the old town of Kastoria, with the majestic mansions from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Many of these are now museums, while others have been converted to boutique guesthouses.

The Lake Settlement The Lake Settlement at Dispilio, a few kilometres outside Kastoria, is one of the oldest lake settlements in Europe, dating back to 5500BC. FLORINA At a distance of 159km from Thessaloniki, it lies at the north-western tip of Greece. The River Sakoulevas runs through the city from end to end.
