The Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin celebrates the allure of instant photography with the exhibition "Polaroids", showcasing works by Helmut Newton alongside 60 contemporary artists. Watching and reading your previous interviews, I've noticed that you speak with the same enthusiasm about every lived experience. Do you believe that every single experience has shaped who Antigone is today?
In general, I'm enthusiastic about everything I do. I don't know if lived experiences have shaped the person Antigone is today or not. I do know that Antigone is full of enthusiasm about everything in her life – personal or professional. I think that enthusiasm helps me keep my childhood innocence and youthfulness.
Is this how you are raising Aggelos-Leonardo?
When it comes to my child, I'm trying to find the balance between great responsibility and all that the word "mom" carries. I think it's the most beautiful word I've ever heard in my life. I wasn't aware that when I called my mother – I still call her mom – this word encompassed so much love. That's how I raise him, but I also need to nurture a feeling of security, have in mind the responsibility I have as a mother, the fears and insecurities that I've never had before and now burst out of nowhere... Everything is a struggle to find inner balance.
What do you consider to be the most important lesson your child has taught you?
In the past, I used to think that every day is a new opportunity, but I had to make an effort in order to feel better. Despite believing that things would improve day by day, the feeling remained the same. Now, having a child, I realize that every day is a blessing. I don't need to make a great effort; I wake up feeling blessed because I acknowledge that every day is a gift.
People say that your child makes you feel revived and this is absolutely true. And the way you will make the most of this inner renewal is entirely up to you. The child adds to the feeling that your life starts anew. You have the opportunity to use past experiences, avoid repeating the same mistakes, and fix what needs fixing. You experience things anew through their eyes, and this gives you a whole new perspective. It's your chance to do something better. However, you need to be careful. You need to give the child the freedom to choose their own path, without foisting your dreams onto your child.
Do you feel motherhood has made you a better person?
I wouldn't use words like "better" or "worse." However, I'm not ashamed to say that when a woman carries a child, unique bonds and experiences are created, which cannot be easily expressed. I was born a woman – if I were born a man, perhaps I would speak differently – I got pregnant and carried a baby for nine months. This is how I experience it. I cannot deny it, I cannot overlook it; nor can I feel that my joy interferes with someone else's misfortune or sorrow. Because, after all, it's a matter of democracy. Just like you, I, too, want to express myself freely about what I feel, without interfering with your life choices.
I don't understand why we often focus more on regret, injustice, falsehood, or evil. Why aren't truth, joy, justice, and morality preferable? Or, if they are, why do we feel the need to constantly justify ourselves when we express something good? I don't know if this is all about my own guilt, which I am trying to get rid of, or if it is about society, which makes us feel we have to hide our joy, just in case somebody gets hurt.
Why shouldn’t I be able to say that my IVF was successful and I'm happy about it, when others have tried and haven't succeeded? Why should I feel guilty for a blessing that has come my way? In the end, every person has a purpose in life. Some are meant to become parents, others to discover the cure for cancer, or to look after animals. Why are we constantly comparing or competing with one another?
What do you resort to when you need to unwind?
Lately, I find myself bursting into tears. I never shy away from my emotions; when I'm not well, I don't try to hide it. However, after childbirth, whenever I feel under pressure or I'm caught between a rock and a hard place, I burst into tears. Wherever I am, I try to go out and take some time to walk in nature. I want to be near water, plants, trees – and ease my mind, which is constantly on thinking mode. The responsibilities and concerns we've been discussing often make me feel like I'm barely making ends meet or that I'm not good enough. I’m still not sure if I should embrace this part of me and say "It's okay", or if I should free myself from guilt...

Do you have people to help you in this respect?
In general, I'm a strong believer in people's energy. That's why I have a few good friends in my life. I choose them and I don't have the need for others – either because I feel protected, or because I feel I can protect them, or simply because that's as far as I go. I don't mind telling you that even social gatherings can get tiresome. I may be sociable and polite, but I enjoy my privacy, as well as my solitude. I want my home full of people I love.
I work in a world with a lot of "noise" and lots of people. I love my job and often spend hours with colleagues, but they are not my friends. They are people I respect and appreciate, with whom I can work, even if sometimes I don't particularly like them. And that's perfectly normal.
On television, this will be the fifth year you will "coexist" with Ioulia. You've said in the past that you get bored easily, but with the TV series "I Gi tis Elias", this is not the case...
Although it seems like it might be the end of my character by the end of each season, since season two, the script comes and overturns everything I thought of! The love that people show and the fact that I' m having a great time on set, are truly important to me. Work takes up a lot of time in the day, and I want to be somewhere I feel good. Even I, being quite bold and taking risks, have found comfort in spending my days in a pleasant, calm, and enjoyable manner. I redefine this habit every time, as I am creatively restless, and this is all a result of theater. The timing was right, and last winter we staged the comedy "Overruled", a play by George Bernard Shaw that hasn't been performed in Greece before, directed by Tasos Pyrgieris. The play was a great success; we'll tour Greece in the summer, and we'll be back in Athens next winter.
Now, in the series "I Gi tis Elias", Ioulia is changing and she's coming face to face with everyone and everything. I know that viewers do not often "welcome" change, but personally, I enjoy plot twists and the exploration of different mentalities. These challenges fascinate me and help me consistently evolve.
You've also been cast in the second season of the Netflix series "The Girl from Oslo". Can you describe this experience?
It was a wonderful experience. I've always worked abroad, having special relations with Italy, even to this day. However, when I returned to Greece, there was a decline in casting calls and auditions – it's only natural; I'm not as available as I used to be. It's nice, though, to be given opportunities. Greece has a small industry with regard to film and TV series production. Only our theater tradition has achieved global recognition. This affects us actors too. Nevertheless, there are people trying to promote the Greek film industry.

Ted Sarandos does a great deal to promote Greek directors and actors on Netflix. Another example is Christopher Papakaliatis with "Maestro in Blue" – a series on Netflix, filmed in Paxos, with Greek actors – who serves as an international ambassador for Greece, Greek actors, and Greek cinema in general. Also, Andreas Georgiou with "Famagusta" – filmed in Cyprus with Greek and Cypriot actors – which has been distinguished in international festivals and is also available on Netflix. "The Murderess" by Eva Nathena, a female director who used Greek actors, promoted our country, toured around the world and was nominated for an Oscar. Despite its small size, Greece has remarkable creative artists and professionals, from directors and actors to cameramen, editors, and photographers.
I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned Yorgos Lanthimos...
Yorgos Lanthimos is an exceptional director. His work is thrilling; I admire him and would truly love to work with him. However, he does not approach Greek actors in his films. He is a Greek director who became widely known with the film "Dogtooth", which has received festival awards and has been nominated for an Oscar. From then on, his subsequent works are English language films with English speaking actors. Lanthimos focuses on promoting his work as a director – and this must be respected – but he doesn't seem to actively promote the Greek film community or to support Greek actors. And I say this in the most loving way. I don't know if he intends to make a Greek film or collaborate with Greek artists in the future, nor do I know how he manages the projects he undertakes. I have read, though, that he had requested to shoot scenes at the Acropolis and his proposal was rejected... It’s a pity, whichever way you look at it.

I began my studies at IEK Le Monde, in 2011. That’s when I got into the hospitality industry. I worked in restaurants, catering, and hotels, mainly in Athens and Sifnos. In addition, for a short period of time, I found myself in catering establishments in Spetses, Bournemouth, and Dubai. I am part of the Coco-Mat Hotels team since November 2024.
DUTY CALLS
As the Chef at Coco-Mat Athens BC, my responsibilities primarily involve creating menus and ensuring food quality for our hotel guests. At the same time, I am responsible for managing the kitchen team, the inventory, suppliers, budget and costs, as well as organizing events and complying with hygiene standards.
What I enjoy most about my job is creating new culinary proposals for our guests. The greatest challenge for me is to ensure that all guests feel satisfied with the gastronomic experience provided byCoco-Mat Athens BC.

Personally, I enjoy going on excursions and travelling in my spare time, trying out recipes and new ingredients that will help me evolve. From my experience at Coco-Mat Hotels so far, one moment that has been most vividly etched in my memory is when a guest ordered a dish from our Christmas menu last year. As soon as he tasted it, he turned toward the kitchen using signs and gestures, showing how much he enjoyed our food. As for the future, I hope that there will be many more Coco-Mat Hotels, even in other countries, so that Greek gastronomy and hospitality can be promoted.

I’ve been in the hospitality industry since 2016 after completing my internship in the kitchen – my introduction to the world of hotel experience. In 2019, I joined the Coco-Mat Athens Jumelle team, where I gained substantial experience in guest service and attentiveness. Then, I joined Coco-Mat Athens BC, further enriching my knowledge of high-standard hotel operations. I hold the position of Maître at Coco-Mat Hotel Athens since 2024, a role that allows me to coordinate and create experiences ensuring quality and consistency.

Being a Maître requires exceptional communication and organizational skills, leadership, and attention to detail. As the Maître at Coco-Mat Hotel Athens, I am called upon to ensure an impeccable dining experience at the hotel restaurant. I coordinate the staff in order to deliver high quality service and handle orders, ensuring that each dish is excellent, and service is prompt. At the same time, I am always ready to cater to any guest’s particular needs, making sure that every moment throughout their stay is well cared for and pleasant. Other core responsibilities involve resolving complaints and guiding the team. My goal is to continue to improve the guest experience and enhance hotel service quality by offering innovative solutions. In addition, I pursue the training and empowerment of my team in order to enhance efficiency and the overall hospitality experience.

I am a reservations agent at Coco-Mat Hotel Nafsika. Some of my daily duties include organizing future bookings, updating the day's arrival plan, and checking room availability. At the same time, I seek to optimize room sales and the hotel's position, so that it stands out on online platforms.
My experience at the reservations department is a daily personal challenge in terms of how to achieve hotel goals, constantly improve existing knowledge, and offer the ideal accommodation to our guests. In my opinion, the long-standing hotel operation, its strategic location, and, primarily, the love of our guests are what make our hotel stand out.

For the fava:
Place the Santorini fava, carrot, onion, celery, thyme, and bay leaf in a pot with salted water.
Boil the fava until tender, almost mushy.
Drain and discard the thyme and bay leaf. Transfer in a food processor with the olive oil, salt, mango puree, and curry, and blend until smooth.
FOR THE FAVA:
100 g SANTORINI FAVA
1/2 CARROT
1/2 ONION
1/2 CELERY STICK
2 SPRIGS OF THYME
1 BAY LEAF
20 g MANGO PUREE
2 g CURRY
1 TBSP OLIVE OIL
SALT TO TASTE
FOR THE PICKLED
RED CABBAGE:
100 ml APPLE CIDER
VINEGAR
100 ml WATER
5 g SALT
20 g SUGAR
100 g RED CABBAGE
FOR THE KING OYSTER:
1 KING OYSTER MUSHROOM
2 TBSP OLIVE OIL FOR SAUTÉING
SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE
1 SPRIG OF THYME
1 CLOVE OF GARLIC
60 ml WHITE WINE
FOR THE MUSHROOM
TARTARE:
1 WHITE MUSHROOM (CHAMPIGNON)
20 g ONION
2-3 THYME LEAVES
1 tbsp OLIVE OIL
1 DROP OF TRUFFLE OIL SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE
For the mushroom tartare:
Cut the white mushroom and onion into small cubes, place in a bowl, add the remaining ingredients, and mix.

For the pickled red cabbage: Cut the red cabbage into thin strips and boil for 2 minutes in water, then drain and transfer to a bowl.
Combine apple cider vinegar, water, salt, and sugar in a saucepan to make the pickling liquid and heat until sugar is dissolved.
Remove the warm pickling liquid from the heat and add it to the bowl with the red cabbage. Let it cool and store it in the refrigerator.
Drain the liquid when serving the cabbage.
For the King oyster:
Cut the King oyster mushroom in half and carefully score in a cross-hatch pattern. Add olive oil, thyme, and garlic in a pan, and turn the heat on. Season the mushroom with salt and pepper; place it in the pan and sauté until golden brown on both sides; add the wine, cover the pan with a lid and let the mushroom steam. After 4-5 minutes, remove the lid and cook until the excess moisture has evaporated.
To serve, spread the fava on a dish, top with the pickled cabbage, the King oyster mushroom, and finish with the mushroom tartare.
Drizzle with olive oil and garnish with a few leaves of your preferred fresh herb.
