Thank you for viewing our sale catalogue. We feel that we have as good a set of 2 year old Limousin bulls as can be found in Canada.

This has not happened by accident, we have concentrated on producing top genetic, functional, low maintenance ranch cattle. These cattle basically take care of themselves while raising calves with excellent performance potential.

In 2002 we purchased half of TMF Landmark 601L (a $63,000 bull calf that sold at the International Limousin Conference). Landmark was without question one of the best Limousin bulls ever used (through AI and natural service) in Canada, he left a real impact on the breed. Practically every cow we own has Landmark influence in her pedigree. Since then we have continued to use the best genetics available through natural breeding as well as A.I.ing.

Our sale structure is pretty much the same as last year. With Kurt and Becky organizing the Angus end of this bull sale and Provost Livestock Exchange staff looking after their end of the sale, we are working with people who we very much respect and enjoy.

If you would like to view the bulls prior to the sale you are welcome to stop and see them in the pens. Whatever breed of cows you are keeping our bulls will help add structure, performance, yield and overall quality to your calves.

Murphy Ranch Our Program____________________________________ I have been in the commercial cattle business pretty much all of my life and ventured into the purebred business because of our family’s appreciation of top quality cattle. It was Diane, Quinn and Brian who bought the first purebred cows and through the family the purebred herd evolved to where it is today. The continued help and support from our kids and their spouses have enabled us to continue in the program. Our new granddaughter Julie adds not only the third generation but an amazing amount of fun.

Other than during breeding season, our purebred herd is handled the same as our commercial cows and mingles with the commercial cattle.

The cattle graze pastures of up to 1600 acres and at times with very little checking.

I so often get questions on the calving ability of the cattle. Our purebred cow herd calves beginning mid April (along with the commercial cows) on 200 acres of prairie grass and are checked twice daily. The first and second calvers (purebred and commercial) calve also beginning mid April on 80 acres of prairie next to the yard, they are checked 2 to 3 times daily with a follow up check if a calving is in progress. We don’t get up during the night and calve 60 first calf heifers every spring with this management.

There are a number of reasons that we left other breeds for Limousin and Calving Ease rates high in these reasons.

Delivery of Murphy Bulls_________________________ We can arrange delivery of bulls at no charge within 150 miles of Provost. These bulls will be delivered directly from Provost Livestock Exchange the week of the sale. We require bulls to be insured if we are transporting them. If you cannot accept delivery of bulls at this time talk to us and we will try to make other arrangements.

Bull Development________________________________ Our bulls will arrive at the sale as virgin, approaching 2 years old, and ready to go home with you to breed cows.

At weaning time these bulls come out of a 1600 acre prairie pasture where they are part of a group of 300 plus calves. Our weaning weights are forwarded to the Canadian Limousin Association who do a proper 205 day adjustment. The weights we use in this catalogue are the official adjusted 205 day weights - the same weights as are on the bulls registration papers.

They were born on prairie grass, wintered at the yard, summered on pasture, exposed to barb wire and electric fences, handled with horses and quads, and prepared for this sale on a whole oat/silage ration.

We market only 2 year old bulls and only at our sale.

Herd Health_____________________________________ We incorporate a complete vaccination program as recommended

by Border Veterinary Clinic of Provost, AB. We feel that we deal with an extremely informed and competent Veterinary Clinic and we totally take their advice on our vaccination and herd health program.

Terms & Conditions of Sale_______________________ terms of sale - Cash or cheque payable in Canadian funds. The right to property shall not pass until after settlement has been made. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before cattle will be released unless prior arrangements have been made with the seller.

Bulls are sold with a “responsible Breeder guarantee of satisfaction”.

In the unlikely event of a dispute, the regular terms and conditions standard with the applicable breed association shall apply. In any case, the seller is not responsible for more than what the bull sold for at the auction mart. purchasers risk - Each Animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Insurance will be available Sale Day. Liability - Purchasers must look to the seller of the animal for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations made hereunder. Landmark is a bull that has definitely left his mark in the breed. Used extensively across Canada through AI and siring many sale toppers that have gone into elite breeding programs throughout North America, he helped address the needs of the breed when he came onto the scene. He added volume, set his progeny a little closer to the ground, added thickness and depth of body to his offspring. His sons are tremendous and his daughters have phenomenal maternal traits. His calves have always turned out superior to their mothers. We are thrilled with his progeny.

Landmark walked our pasture for a number of years and we built a herd of cows around him - a herd we are very proud of. We will continue to use him in our A.I. program.

Although Landmark has no sons in this sale, most of the bulls are either grandsons or great grandsons and his influence is definitely evident.

Revolution has proven to be an excellent follow up on the Landmark daughters. His calves, like himself, have tremendous length and muscle expression. His daughters have well suspended udders, ideal teat size and an abundance of milk. He is a calving ease sire and our plans are to continue using him as an A.I. sire.

Most of his sons in this sale are double polled and will compliment your herd whether you are geared towards selling those heavy muscled Limousin steers or retaining functional maintenance free females.

We used Tow Truck quite heavily in our heifer A.I. program again. His calving ease, growth and carcass EPDs are extremely impressive. The bull, himself, is massive, heavy muscled, docile with an excellent coat of hair. He is being used more and more as an AI sire in many Canadian herds.

His sons in this sale are extremely heavy muscled.

They are thick, deep and display excellent volume. If you need a bull to breed a group of heifers without sacrificing quality and size on the calves at weaning, take a look at his sons, we are using a pair of his sons in our own commercial heifer breeding pasture.

1U is a bull from our own program - a product of a flush from WULFS KLINT and a cow we very much admired. He is bred for performance as well as displaying docility, excellent depth, length and muscle. Everyone who sees this bull is impressed.

You will notice his sons in the sale, although they are the young end of the bulls (being bred after the completion of the A.I. program), their extreme performance has them fitting right in with the other bulls.

We are very appreciative of our past, present and future customers; without you this would not be possible. Our true enjoyment of this industry is the people involved in it. A huge thank you also goes out to our families, neighbours, and friends that give us a hand throughout the year.

This is one of our favorite times of year – putting together things for the sale and calving season. With every new calf comes the anticipation of how they will develop and preform in the future. We have gone through one of the wettest summers for years and with strong cattle prices it’s an exciting time in the cattle industry.

We are very fortunate to put this sale on with great friends and cattlemen. The Murphy’s, Klatt’s, Randy Mcgowan, and the folks at PLE are all a real pleasure to work with.

We spend a lot of time selecting our cattle and searching for new and exciting genetics. We pride ourselves in strict selection and culling on udders and sound structure in our herd. Rest assured these bulls are from females that are sound. Bull calves are weaned in September and started slowly onto a silage based TMR. They are fed to go out and breed not for finish. These bulls are fully guaranteed.

We don’t pamper our cows; they run like our commercial herd, on grass as long as possible then bale grazing until calving. Our cows don’t get second chances, they raise a quality calf and come in bred on time or they go down the road. Our aim is to have cattle that are functional and sound for a very long time, easy doing cattle that convert feed into pounds while catching a grade. We use the best sires we can through both A.I. and natural service and use embryo transfer to increase our rate of genetic advancement. We work with Lloydminster Animal Hospital to provide a complete herd health program

Delivery of Pedersen Bulls_______________________ We will take the bulls home, feed, and deliver them free within 150 miles. We will start delivery around May 1st and work with you to get them to your yard or pastures. If you are unable to receive your bull at that time there will be a $2/day feed charge from that point on.

siRes We purchased this bull in 2008 from Rattrays, topping the Northern Select Sale. We are extremely happy with him and his calves. He was shown quite successfully – as a calf he was Bull Calf Champion, winning the Angus division and going on to being Reserve Champion “King of the Ring” at Stockade. As a yearling was Reserve Division Champion at Olds Fall Classic and Lloydminster Stockade. He has bred on the muscle expression and power that he exhibits. We think so highly of this bull that we have three full sisters in our herd as well as PED 148Z in our sale this year that is also a full sibling.

His sire is none other than the great SAV Net Worth and dam, SCA Lady Anne 03K. This pair of parents has more muscle, power, and overall dimension than almost any in the breed.

His sons will raise steers that will top the market. We have been very happy with the way he calves as consistently his bulls average 92 lbs and his heifers 83 lbs. His sire group led off our sale last year and was our high selling group. His daughters are coming into production this year and we are extremely excited for the next step of his impact in our herd.

We purchased Bando a few years back as a calf at Happyvale’s Dispersal. He was our high selling bull in our sale in 2011, selling as a four year old to Mitchell Farms.

We were lucky enough to use him on a handful of cows before he headed there, so this will be his last calf crop for us. This bull has been used to breed heifers every year and kicks them out at nice 75-85 pound birth weights.

His calves are built just like him, stout with a great foot and tons of hip. We have daughters of his now in production and they are beautiful, moderate framed cows with picture perfect udders and milk like a dream weaning off calves that are close to 70% their weight.

These Wired calves really have hair. He is also out of a heifer that came from Lyle and Doreen and I would say she has the nicest udder in the herd. The Bando females all have strong udder structure combined with a ton of milk. Notice also he is just a middle of March calf.
