Welcome to the Annual Lazy RC Ranch Long Yearling Bull Sale! This year 2013 will go down in the record books as a hard snowy winter that seemed to hang on late into the spring and stay until May, as there were snow banks in coulees when we started to calve in May. Moisture was on the lighter side and hay crops were less then past years but farmers had bumper crops, calf prices rose this fall and they continue to rise with cow numbers decreasing. We have been selling bulls for 13 years and are excited to again to have a video sale in our yard with DLMS. We have on offer some new exciting sire groups that offer fresh genetics into our herd. The bulls are long, stout and structurally correct – they are bulls that will go out and work. This year once again, we are selling Long Yearling Bulls; these bulls are 20+ months of age by sale time and 2 years of age when they go out to pasture to breed. Every year we go through the same strict culling program – if they don’t work for us, they don’t work for you. This is the top 50% of the bulls out of our 120 bulls at weaning. These bulls are sound and full of red meat. We have cow bulls and heifer bulls to meet your needs. At weaning time these bulls are back grounded on a grass hay and silage ration to gain 1 – 1.5lbs/day to grow out naturally. They are on feed until May at which time we turn them out on a crested wheat grass and native pasture. The bulls this year were brought home September 5, 2013, and fed hay with a 12% protein pellet. On September 15, 2013, we started to feed a hay and silage ration plus the pellets – note, they are never given any more than 12 lbs of pellets. These bulls are fed for longevity, soundness and correctness. They are a thick, stout, correct and moderate group of bulls that will go out and work in your program.These are ALL VIRGIN BuLLS and all bulls have been semen tested by Southwest Animal Clinic before the sale and come FuLLY GuARANTEED! GUIDE FOR USING EPD’S

The bull is merely a delivery system for the genetics he passes on. Performing this job requires them to be sound, fertile and athletic. However, it is the reliability of their genetic predictions that ultimately bear out their true value to producers’ bottom line. Remember, the market you seek to participate in is just as much a part of your environment as rainfall and available feed stuffs. Target your market and work backwards to find the right bulls. Performing this task can well be summarized in these three steps: 1. Know the markets you wish to hit feeder calves, yearling, replacement females. 2. Have a true appraisal of how close your cow herd is to that target, understanding your cows have to continue to live and reproduce in your environment. 3. Identify bulls whose EPD’s predict the abiity to move your cow herd in the right direction for the traits required to hit your market end point. Example - suppose your old herd bull has a Yearling Weight EPD of +45. You buy a new bull with a Yearling Weight EPD of +65. How much will the new bull boost your calves’ yearling weights? The answer, “Who knows?” We cannot predict how much performance will change from one year to the next because of varying environmental conditions (rainfall, temperature, available feed, etc.). However, we do know this: the calves raised in the same contemporary group sired by the new bull will have the genetics to weigh an average of 20 pounds more at 365 days of age than calves sired by the old bulls.

EPD’s are one of several tools that should be used together in order to ensure that you find the best bulls for your needs and long term goals. EPD’s do not indicate how any pounds will be added to a herd’s average by using a particular bull. Only the differences among bulls are relevant. EPD’s can, and probably will, change on a bull as more information is added. In fact, every bull evaluated will get a new set of EPD’s the next time the association conducts genetic evaluation. EPD’s cannot be compared across breeds. BIRTH WEIGHT (BW): Expressed in pounds. Best estimate of differences in birth weight. Higher EPD’s mean higher birth weights. WEANING WEIGHTS (WW): Expressed in pounds. Best estimate of overall growth. Higher EPD’s mean more yearling weight. MILK: The genetic ability of a sire’s daughters to produce milk. Expressed in pounds of weaning weight. TOTAL MATERNAL (TM): A value combing growth and milk information. A prediction of the weaning weight performance of calves from a sire’s daughters. The calves are vaccinated at between one and two months of age and again at weaning with a modified live viral vaccine including bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR), bovine viral diarrhea (BVD Type I and II), bovine parinfluenza-3 (PI3) and bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV). At the same time, the calves are also vaccinated for Haemophilus somnus, Pasteurella haemolytica (pneumonia pathogens) and an eight-way Clostridial vaccine and receive an injectable ivermectin in the spring and a pour-on ivermectin in the fall for external and internal parasite control. The extensive vaccine protocol utilized by the Lazy RC Ranch ensures a high level of health and low pathogen load in both breeding and replacement stock.

Terms & Conditions TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at Beechy, SK. The right of property shall not pass until settlement is made. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. BIDS - Every animal entering the sale ring will be sold to the highest bidder A floor price will apply to each animal consigned. DISPUTES - In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. ANNOUNCEMENTS - Errors discovered in the catalogue will be corrected by announcements from the Auction Stand at sale time and such corrections will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY - A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement is made. BREEDER’S GUARANTEE - Lazy RC Ranch has done everything possible to assure you, the buyer, that every bull in this sale will be a breeder. A certified veterinarian will have semen tested and physically evaluated every bull. In the unlikely event of a dispute, regular terms & conditions standard with the Canadian Angus Association shall apply.
