This sale is the initiative of five Central Alberta Gelbvieh and Balancer breeders who each have lifelong experience raising cattle. We understand the challenges you have faced and the integrity, ingenuity and diligent work ethic it takes to be successful. Most of all we understand your commitment to producing high quality beef to feed the world. Our goal is to provide you with reliable, functional Gelbvieh and Balancer bulls with leading genetics for quality cattle production. The Common Ground breeders; Stone Gate Farm, Unger Land & Livestock, Cowlick Ranch, 7T Cattle and Dayspring Cattle, have in excess of one hundred & twenty years combined experience raising Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle. As Gelbvieh celebrates its 50th anniversary in Canada we are proud of the benefits that Gelbvieh have brought and the acceptance the breed has achieved. Some of us have connections that go back to when the first Gelbvieh bulls came to Canada fifty years ago. Some have grown up with Gelbvieh cattle and others bring a fresh new view into the mix. Dayspring Cattle is located west of the town of Sylvan Lake, AB. We are third generation farmers in Central Alberta and have raised Gelbvieh cattle since 1990. In 1998 we moved our calving to May/ June and have focused on forage based genetics. This year will be our third year entering bulls in the Olds College RFI (residual feed intake - feed efficiency) trials. Along with this we have our bulls ultrasound measured for carcass traits.

Cowlick Ranch is located just north of Olds, AB. We are a mixed farming operation made up of a father/son duo who are 4th and 5th generation farmers. We have used Gelbvieh and Balancer bulls in our commercial cow calf operation for over 20 years. The Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle have done so much to improve our cattle herd, creating functional, long lasting females that have amazing maternal instincts allowing them to wean off heavy calves every fall. These are just a few of the benefits we appreciate about the breed and we are excited to begin raising seed stock and sharing with fellow cattleman what this breed has to offer. We appreciate Loren Unger’s help in getting us started in the purebred industry and were very excited to purchase some embryos together with him. It is from these embryo transfers that the majority of these bulls we are offering come from. Welcome to the Innaugural Common Ground Bull Sale! Stone Gate Farm is comprised of Darrell, Leila, Avary, Kenzie and Mason Hickman of Sundre, Alberta. As a family, we are excited to be a part of this venture and bring our best foot forward. Gelbvieh roots run deep in our house, with our children being a third generation to raise and promote The Continental Breed of Choice. Our farm is not large in numbers, however we have built a solid foundation of cow families extending back several generations. We are proud to offer for your assessment several outstanding individuals, purebred flushmates, as well as the reigning 2021 Champion Balancer Bull from Farmfair. We, at Unger Land & Livestock, are excited to be working along with our friends and fellow Gelbvieh breeders in this first “Common Ground Bull Sale”. We farm east of Olds and our family has been part of this community for over 90 years. Cattle have always been a part of our operation. When the Gelbvieh breed was introduced to us, we were hooked. The maternal qualities of the first heifers we calved out were amazing. The calves were vigorous at birth and grew quickly. The temperament of cattle is important to us, as well as udder quality. Gelbvieh offered us both performance and calve ease. We did disperse our herd in 2009 when all our children finished school and had other career plans. Life without cattle didn’t last long, as many of you know! Since then, we’ve built a small quality herd relying on AI, herd sires and more recently, embryo transfer. We really appreciate Ryan Kary from CowLick Ranch, working closely with us in breeding bulls and females for today’s cattle industry. We are excited for the future! 7T Cattle is located on the southwest side of Sylvan Lake and east of Ponoka in the Chain Lakes area. I purchased my first Gelbvieh as a 4H project and I’ve been raising Gelbvieh since. Some of the herd’s genetics still go back to my first Gelbvieh heifer. I calve in May/June and concentrate on a grass/forage based operation. For two years I have entered bulls in the Olds College RFI trial. For the last seven years all of my yearling bulls and females have been ultrasound tested. Adam Nielsen

CLR 5J is a very unique bull. He is a moderate framed bull but he sure is a stout and thick made bull. He is definitely made the right way and this guy could be used on all sorts of cow types and could even be used on heifers! Here is the first of six sons out of the CK 71X cow. We were very excited to take this opportunity with Loren Unger on these embryos knowing that so many came from this great cow. CLR 7J is the kind of bull that I would love to use on my commercial cows, having a birth weight of 86lbs that translated into an actual weaning weight of 805lb! This guy will sire calves that get you that extra weight in the fall. He is a nice long bull that has an awesome middle, he’s deep ribbed and wide topped and carries it all on a big foot.

Dark red, tons of hair, great length and depth. Jagr is just a pure performance bull, with an actual weaning weight of 850lbs. He will definitely add pounds to your calves! The other thing this bull has going for him is a very unique genetic package, being sired by the high selling $30,000 Dragon bull. A bull that brings calving ease and still has performance; turn him in with your heifers or use him on your cows. This red bull is super stylish and has lots of hair with a great extension. This guy is not an embryo transfer calf but there is a reason he is in the sale - CLR 70J is just a straight up meat wagon. This bull has a massive rib and a natural thickness and muscle that carries right through from front to back. He’s had awesome growth numbers and he will be sure to add pounds to your calf crop. His sire, Crown Royal is a bull we have owned for a few years and has sired some awesome calves for us. Highwayman is a bull that we really liked from the day he hit the ground. He has a dark foot and pigment, plenty of thickness, great hair and is long bodied. His dam is a dark red homo polled female, ranked very high in our program. With a sire like Road Trip, he should produce some awesome replacement females and highly marketable steer calves. Note: this bull does have slight scurs. Polled We rarely have two year bulls to sell, but we thought highly of both of these Road Trip sons and kept them back to use on a select group of heifers and cows. Bulls will sell in a published sale order, with individual sequential closing times. This means you will not spend extra time waiting for the sale to end. Sign up for bid status updates via text and/or email. At closing, there is extended bidding with a two-minute countdown per lot. Use your “watch list” to monitor interested lots and bid on lots. Find your best available internet connection and cell phone service. Do not wait until the final seconds to bid. Use the “Max Bid” feature. This will automatically increase your bid by set increments until your maximum amount has been reached.
Bidding Close and Follow Up: Sale close out will begin at 7 PM and close out as per sale order. Following the competition of the sale, a member of the Common Ground Bull Sale/Rosehill Auction team will contact you to arrange your desired method of payment. Options include E transfer, cheque, cash, debit, direct deposit, or credit card. Your credit card on file will NOT be automatically processed for any purchases. GUARANTEE All bulls sell under the standard terms and conditions set forth by the Canadian Gelbvieh Association. All cattle sell with appropriate health requirements, current vaccinations and a current satisfactory breeding soundness exam. Bulls returning to the consignors farm must be insured. We stand behind the bulls we sell, if a bull fails to be a satisfactory breeder or unable to physically service cows or heifers we require him returned to us, and we will replace him with one of equal value or with a full credit minus salvage value in next year’s sale. DELIVERY Free delivery in a 300 KM radius and a shared cost to central points past 300 km, we will try our very best to deliver them right to your yard. Delivery date is at the seller’s convenience prior to May 1, and bulls staying after May 1 will be kept for the cost of current feed charges.
