Alta Exports International Ltd. won the first permits for the export of cattle to Russia and Kazakhstan from Canada in 2007. They have since exported over 10,000 head of live cattle and over 8,000 beef embryos to Russia. They have also exported more than 1,500 head of cattle to Kazakhstan.
Davis-Rairdan Embryo Transfer Ltd. is presently the largest beef cattle embryo transfer company in Canada. The Davis-Rairdan team has been providing domestic bovine embryo transfer services to beef cattle producers across Western Canada for more than 30 years. The Davis-Rairdan team is certified by the Canadian Embryo Transfer Association and approved by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to produce bovine embryos for export from Canada. To date, in excess of 60,000 embryos have been exported to more than 30 countries around the world, including Russia. The president, Dr. Roger Davis worked with Alta Exports International on several large scale beef embryo transfer projects in Russia which involved the production and implantation of more than 8,000 embryos. Dr. Davis is the Past President of the Canadian Embryo Transfer Association.

Gary D. Smith - Co-Owner and President, Alta Exports International Gary Smith has more than 40 years of international experience exporting livestock, embryos, and semen around the world. With a degree in livestock genetics and nutrition from the University of Alberta, Canada, Gary is successful purebred cattle breeder and rancher as well as a cattle exporter. Recognized for his knowledge of beef cattle confirmation, Gary has worked as a judge at many exhibitions in Canada, the USA, Mexico, Columbia, and Australia. Working as Alta Genetics International Marketing Director from 1993 to 2000, Gary has a broad and deep knowledge of livestock genetics around the world, including pioneering work in China, Columbia, Russia and Kazakhstan assessing and recommending crossbreeding programs to increase both milk and meat production. Gary has also been active in many industry associations, including President of Alberta Canada All Breeds Association and Board Member of the Alberta Beef Producers and Canadian Beef Breeds Council. Together with co-owner Kate Kolstad, Alta Exports International was established in 2000 with a focus on exporting quality Canadian genetics for beef and dairy cattle.
Dr. Roger L. Davis DVM Dr. Roger L. Davis is the President and co-founder of Davis-Rairdan Embryo Transplants Ltd. and its international marketing arm, Davis-Rairdan International. Dr. Davis graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1979. Complementing this education is an extensive background in the purebred and commercial beef cattle industry. Dr. Davis was raised in a family actively involved in the purebred Angus and Polled Hereford cattle business. The family also owned a large feedlot. From 1983 to 1989, Dr. Davis independently owned and managed a purebred beef cattle operation. He served as president of the Alberta Hereford Association and has been sought after as a judge for major beef cattle shows in North America and abroad. Dr. Davis has traveled extensively in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Colombia, China, Brazil, Russia and Hungary. Visits involved implanting Canadian embryos, in conjunction with training veterinarians in the respective countries in the field of embryo transfer. Davis-Rairdan is one of the most recognized companies,internationally and domestically, in the beef cattle embryo transfer industry. He served as President of the Canadian Embryo Transfer Association from 1997-1999 and as a director from 1994-2003 & 2006-2009. Dr. Davis is a member of the International Embryo Transfer Society (IETS)and was a reviewing author of the IETS Embryo Transfer Manual.
Kate S. Kolstad - Co-Owner and Vice President, Alta Exports International ., Embryologist Kate Kolstad has more than 25 years of international experience exporting livestock, embryos, and semen around the world. Growing up on a 12,000 acre cattle ranch in Southern Alberta, Canada, Kate graduated from Olds College in 1984 with a diploma in Animal Health Technology. She began her export career working for Davis Rairdan Embryo Transfer as an Embryo Technician. From 1994 to 2000, Kate managed many large international projects for embryo production and transfer for cattle, sheep and goats while employed by Alta Genetics Inc. Together with co-owner Gary Smith, Alta Exports International was established in 2000 with a focus on exporting quality Canadian genetics for beef and dairy cattle.
