Welcome to the 7th Annual Edie Creek Angus 2-Year Old Bull Sale! We appreciate your interest in our program and hope that what we produce can make your farm more profitable by producing more live calves and a more efficient cowherd. We have 30 great bulls available this year with multiple traits that will add value to your cowherd. Some of you likely had a very successful year of feed-crops and calf production, while for others there was excess moisture and still others had a drought! We have had a dry year but with the opportunity to bale some extra straw bales, we’re going to be able to stretch our feed supplies ‘til grass time, as long as this mountain of snow melts at a reasonable time! We hope that you have enough feed, bedding, and shelter for your cattle this amazingly cold winter! Our environment continues to encourage us to keep only the cows that thrive with minimal inputs! Hopefully each of you can take advantage of the rising cattle prices. With the Canadian Dollar moving downwards, we are finally starting to see some optimism on this side of the border, despite record-low cattle numbers continent-wide. The industry needs to have enough profit in it to get more young folks involved, as it has been a tough sell up ‘til now. Having an efficient, functional, maternal cowherd will make you more money in the long-run, and we have the genetics to help take you in that direction. We have been growing our Red Angus herd in response to customer demands, and have been continuously improving our genetics through A.I., Embryo Transfer, and purchasing the best quality cattle available. This past year we purchased another 8 Red Angus Females and 7 Black Angus Females including some future additions to our Embryo Donor program. We had good success harvesting embryos from 2 top cows this past fall, with 38 embryos collected this past year from these good old donor cows. Earlier embryo transfer calves from the OCC Karen 759N cow sell in the sale as lots 1-3 and they are phenomenal! We also had the fortunate opportunity to acquire the semen inventory of one of our mentors in the Angus industry, John Setrakov of Hillfire Angus, breeder of our foundational “Legacy 518R” bull. We are very confident that we now have the building blocks to keep on producing top-quality Angus cattle for many years to come! We have grown our herd so that we will have an additional 10 bulls on offer at next years’ sale, including 5 red bulls. Bull Development These bulls have been raised on their mothers’ milk and grass. Once they were weaned, they went out and Grazed until early November. They were then brought in and fed Alfalfa silage with 2lbs of Barley and free choice oat straw. In June they were turned out to pasture, where they grew well until the beginning of November 2013. At this time, they came home and received a Grass-Alfalfa silage ration with 5 lbs of barley and 2 lbs Sunflower screenings, plus free choice hay. They have not been pushed with hard feed so that they will breed longer for you. Bull Program Bulls can be kept at Edie Creek Angus for $2/day until May 1st. After that, the cost will be $3/day. Free delivery available to Ashern Auction Mart. If you haul your bull on Sale day we will give you a $50 discount on each bull. Bulls MUST be insured if they are to be kept on our farm.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS The terms of sale are by cash or cheque. Settlement to be made immediately after the completion of the sale. The right of property will not pass until after settlement is made. Bulls will not be released until settlement is made. Cheques to be made payable to BOUW FARMS LTD. Bids: Every animal entering the sale ring will be sold to the highest bidder subject to a minimum/reserve bid. Disputes: In case of disputes, bidding will be re-opened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on all disputes is final. Announcements and Changes: All announcements and changes made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in this catalogue. All bulls have been evaluated for breeding soundness and semen quality by Dr. Claus Leppelman of Beausejour Animal Hospital. We guarantee to provide you with a sound, fertile bull at the point of sale. Should your bull fail to be a satisfactory breeder, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value or a credit will be given towards the purchase of another bull. We will not provide the replacement or credit for a bull that is physically injured or mismanaged. It is the responsibility of the buyer to insure their bulls.

Udder Rating: Based on the quality of the dam's udder structure and teat shape and size. Rated between "1" - "5", a score of "3" would be an average, functional udder, while a score of "5" would be a perfectly level udder with small, shapely teats.
Forage Rating: Designed to predict the ability of the bull's offspring to thrive in a forage-only environment. The forage rating is also a suitable indicator of the bull's own ability to stay in good flesh on a low-energy ration ("easy-keeping-ness"). Rated between "1" - "5", a score of "3" would be moderately easy fleshing, while a score of "5" would be very easy fleshing and his offspring would finish on forages alone.
