hat a packed issue! As I thought about what I wanted to say in my editorial, I thought about what is the most important thing in all of our lives? Yes, family, our faith, our beliefs are all very important and dear to our lives, but when it comes right down to it, one of the most important things that we all have is our health. Without our health, we can’t enjoy any of the things that we love. So as we are about to embark on 2014, we at CIS Magazine have decided to dedicate the year to fitness! We are going to get in the best shape of our lives in 2014 and we hope you will all join us. As I was interviewing one of my favorite country music artists, Susie McEntire-Eaton, sister of Reba McEntire, I was inspired by her sense of fitness and keeping herself in shape. As she stated in the article, “ I just want to be able to play with the grand kids and run up the stairs with luggage. It feels so good to be able to move fast and do what we want to do because we can. So many my age can’t.” Both her and her husband Mark Eaton, are a great example to all of us. As we venture on this journey of fitness, we hope that you will join us in getting healthy. Even if you don’t have pounds to lose, getting regular exercise will only lengthen our lives. Our motto for 2014 is getting Cowgirl Fit! We want to become not only Cowgirls In Style, but Cowgirls In Shape. Won’t you all join us on our endeavor! Go to www.facebook.com/cowgirlfit and “Like” our page to begin your journey. Until next time.

Country Singles Online is a GRated Singles site that has been around since 1998.

ooking to lasso your Country Sweetheart? Well, look no further. Country Singles Online is a website dedicated to not only finding love, but so that you are not finding love in all the wrong places! Country Singles Online was the first Country Singles website to hit the internet back in the 1990’s. In fact, TIME Magazine contacted them about one of their success stories. CSO says, “We were the first thing like it on the internet and everyone was wanting to know what we were all about.”

16 | Cowgirls In Style | winter 2014

Athough many websites have copied the idea of Country Singles Online, many don’t have the same morals and values that CSO stress that they have. “We are proud to say that we have always kept our website wholesome. It’s something that has been very important to us. There are so many of the other type of sites, that we wanted to keep ours wholesome which seems to be refreshing to those online.” Country Singles Online has also branched out into other network sites, such as Rodeo Singles, Country Music Singles, Christian Country Singles and Horsen’ Around Singles. All of which are G-Rated. If you’re looking for love, who knows? You could find the cowboy of your dreams online. Check them out at: www.CountrySinglesOnline.com

Spirit of a Cowgirl

By Genevieve Marie

Q&A with Montana Cowgirl and Entrepreneur, Darcy Ostermiller

Meet the beautiful and talented Darcy Ostermiller: Cowgirl Entrepreneur, Wife, and Mother of Two Cowgirls In Style Magazine visited with Darcy and her family to learn more about Rodeo Envy and the woman behind it all. What

was

your

inspiration

for

starting

Rodeo

Envy?

My love of cowgirl fashion and my desire to stay at home to take care of my two beautiful daughters. I grew up on a cattle ranch in northeast Montana and have barrel raced and team roped for many years of my life. My daughters and I love horses and like to ride in style! What was it like being raised on a ranch in Montana? Growing up on a cattle ranch was great. Of course, back then, I probably didn’t appreciate the valuable lessons I was learning, but I do now. I loved the days we had to ride horses to round up or move cattle. There is something about riding your horse across the pasture at a gallop, trying to chase down some cows that are out of place. It makes my adrenaline rise just thinking about it! That was always my favorite thing about barrel racing and team roping too. The speed of it all – having trust in your horse, and having a blast being the best you could be, together! 34 | Cowgirls In Style | Winter 2014

How did this influence your love of cowgirl fashion? When I grew up we didn’t have so many options with what we wore. I remember wearing men’s Wrangler’s because I liked the lower rise in the men’s jeans and a white Hanes V-neck t-shirt because I didn’t want to wear a collared button up shirt. These days, I love the variety of options there are. With boots alone there are so many different styles, colors, and inlay designs. Cowboy hats now have a variety of designs as well and some have rhinestones. There are so many styles of jeans! The thing about cowgirl fashion these days is that everyone can wear it. You see it everywhere – even if it’s just a belt, or jeans with sparkle, or a cadet cap with bling. Do your daughters help you with Rodeo Envy? Yes! They enjoy being a part of the business. I ask for their input on color combinations and for the jewelry. They love to help me package orders going out. They get excited when I tell them we have an order! I often find them in my office placing jewels on conchos or stringing their own necklaces. They recently designed and created flower headbands for little girls. They designed them all and I just did the work. It was fun and they can’t wait to sell them at our booth at the Wrangler Team Roping Championship in Billings, MT. The motto of Rodeo Envy is B Different B Unique, B Envied. What does this mean to you? When people visit my site I want them to find clothing and accessories that are unique and fun. People take notice of what people wear. It’s human nature to do so. Individuality is what distinguishes you from everyone else. You can ask yourself each day: Do I want to look like everyone else or do I want to express my own style? I say don’t be afraid to rock your own look. Be a leader and allow yourself the opportunity to B Envied! You hold the power to help change the world. You just have to believe in yourself and it starts with expressing your individuality. Once you can be yourself, you can inspire others. God designed us to be different, but united. We should celebrate our differences and learn what each one of us has to offer. Tell us about your handmade line of cowgirl jewelry Rodeo Rocks. My husband Justin and I put a lot of love and care into each piece we make. The leather is hand cut, hand stained, and hand distressed by us. Necklaces are hand strung and conchos are decorated by us. Each chunky necklace is one-of-a-kind. I even make the leather cords used for concho necklaces without beads. I have started to wholesale our line of jewelry and have filled orders for different boutiques around the U.S. All of our jewelry is and will always be proudly handmade in Montana. We have a Christmas special this season too. You can purchase a chunky cowgirl necklace and leather cuff for $55 (includes shipping). Check out the Rodeo Rocks page of our website. We can also custom make a set with the colors and concho you want. Email sales@rodeoenvy.com for all custom orders.

You have a men’s line as well! Yes, we have our own Urban Western Wear line of Rodeo Envy shirts and caps for men. Justin designs the line. He will only sell something that he will wear himself and comfort is definitely the focus. We have a variety of long sleeve comfort soft thermal shirts for men available in different colors and styles. What are some of your favorite looks and pieces for the fall/winter seasons? My favorite look for the fall are skinny jeans or leggings worn inside your favorite cowboy boots paired with “Peekaboo Lace for Boots” that we have in a variety of colors. They were very popular this summer and are a super cute way to add a pop of color to your look. I also like to wear the new wide style belts over my long sweaters, long sleeve burnout shirts, and dresses. I love all the fringe accessories too. Colors deepen for fall and winter season so you will see that in my Rodeo Rocks jewelry as well. What’s the best way for CIS reader’s to connect with Rodeo Envy?

Carly and Brownie Photo by Robin Clark

arly Lemmons, 21 of Oakdale, CA learned how to barrel race on an old rope horse named Brownie when she was 10. Her step dad’s retired horse still had a lot of heart and they became inseparable even winning checks in local jackpots. The bond between the two of them has always been strong. After suffering a choke on an alfalfa cube in early October his prognosis was not good and in this photo Carly thought she was saying good-bye. Happily it wasn’t good bye and our family is doing everything possible to nurse him back to good health~

The Western Wanderer Wandering the Arizona Strip Written By: Cort Flynn

Probably the most remote place in US, it is an area north of the Grand Canyon and south of the Utah border.

S

ome of my first wanderings were sparked by a professor in my freshman year of college, when I was 18 years old. One day he got up and said that we ought not waste our lives sitting around on the weekends when there was a great big beautiful world to discover. So my roommate and I, who happened to be in the same class, went up after class and asked him where we should go. He gave us a list of great adventures that we proceeded to travel to the rest of the year

house which is usually open and full of antiques and pictures of the students that once studied there. One of the best was the Arizona Strip. Probably the most remote place in US, it is an area north of the Grand Canyon and south of the Utah border. We headed out in my roommate’s 1963 Mercury Meteor to one of the most rugged and beautiful places on earth--with no people and and one of the coldest nights I have lived through. Recently I decided to retrace my steps. I picked up my oldest son Casey who lives in St. George and we headed out. You headed straight south on River Road in St. George . When the pavement ends you have crossed onto the Arizona Strip. One hundred or so miles later you will come to a remote section of the Grand Canyon. Unlike the touristy areas, you will stand on the edge and look straight down 3000 feet to the Colorado River. Spectacular! Your trip in between will also be filled with lots of fun. First there is the little old mostly-ghost town of Mt. Trumble. Stop at the restored old school house which is usually open and full of antiques and pictures of the students that once studied there. You will pass through some fairly high mountain areas up in the ponderosa pines and if you have time you might want to hike the trail to the summit of Mt. Trumble, the mountain. A short side trip to some Indian petroglyphs is also an option. We stopped at an old ranch where a family was having their annual family reunion, and had traveled from all over the country. It was the old great grandparent homestead and the family had held onto it for this very reason. During our travels we came across a 22 year old French tourist walking along the road. His car had broken down, but he was still trying to get to the canyon. We gave him a ride to the overlook and dropped him off and he said he didn’t want a ride back. I hope he made it out OK. We took a different road out and ended up in Kanab, Utah for dinner. If you go, take lots of water, food and snacks...just in case! Happy Wanderings.

Cowgirl Getaway

The Cowgirls

Cowgirls Getaway Left to Right: Susan and Decanie

Cali to NYC What We Did...

W

hat a few weeks we had, from New York City to San Diego, CA! We had the opportunity to be in NYC for Fashion Week. A week of fashions and styles that are envied all over the world. We actually had to pinch ourselves to realize it was not a dream. But a favorite site was “Macey’s Department store on 34th street. Touring NYC on a double decker bus, to viewing the wonderful city from the top of the Empire State building. New York City was quite the memory and we enjoyed every minute. We were even lucky enough to see a horse! Yes, a horse drawn carriage traveling along the outskirts of Central Park. All the hustle and bustle of the largest city in the nation and we were able to see a horse drawn carriage. Fast forward New York City to San Diego, CA. Even though we have been to San Diego numerous times, we never get tired of the fun that you will find there. From the beach, to the seafood, to a good ole’ America’s favorite pass time of baseball to the wonderful,. sunny weather. You can’t beat it.

Location: San Diego, CA and NYC, NY The Getaway:Traveling from NYC, NY to

San Diego, CA within a matter of a week. What We Learned: We loved all of the sites and people that we met. But when it comes right down to it, we’re glad we’re from a small town and country born and bred!

Favorite Site? “We loved it all, but the 9/11 Site, Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty were awesome!

We loved flying SkyWest! The best connecting flight ever!
