Anything Fried
By the way, the top 10 craziest fair foods are; Funnel Cake; The Classic Corn Dog; Hot Toasted Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich; Deep Fried Cookie Dough; Beer Battered Cheese Curds; Fried Mac and Cheese; Fried Pickles; Frito Pie; Deep Fried Mashed Potatoes on a Stick; Turkey Legs.

Q: With colder weather on the way, what can I do now to make sure my home is ready for winter?
A: As we get closer to the fall and winter seasons, it is a great time to start thinking about getting your home ready for the colder temps and winter weather. Taking time now to prepare your home can save time and money later by avoiding costly repairs. It will also help save on heating bills. As we look at the potential issues, always remember some of these items should be left to professionals. Safety first!
Clean out your gutters and remove any debris which will limit water flow and create ice dams. This can lead to water around the foundation or roof leaks. Also, check for rusty or failing gutters and repair as needed.
Repair or apply weather stripping around doors and windows. You can also use expandable foam or caulk to prevent air flow if you have large openings. Place draft guards on the bottom of doors and apply window insulation film over windowpanes to keep heat from escaping.
Check areas where pipes enter exterior walls and make sure holes are filled with insulation. Insulate water pipes in uninsulated areas of house that are exposed to outdoor temperatures. This includes basements, attics, and crawlspaces.
Drip pipes during freezing temperatures and open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air around pipes to prevent freezing.
Disconnect and drain water hoses from outside spigots and place an insulated faucet cover to to prevent water from freezing in hoses and pipes. This includes outdoor lawn sprinkler systems.
If you have an older heating system, consider getting it professionally inspected to make sure it is running efficiently and properly. Change out filters as needed. Clean systems run more efficiently. They also improve air quality in our homes.
If you have a wood burning unit or fireplace, have it serviced and inspected yearly by a professional to make sure there is not a buildup in the chimney which can cause a chimney fire. Also make sure carbon monoxide is being vented properly.
Do not significantly lower the heat or turn it off completely to save money. This can cause pipes to freeze.
Check batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Replace as needed.
Never run generators or propane heaters in closed spaces, such as attics or garages. They also need to be run a safe distance from windows and doors. Carbon monoxide gas is easily pulled inside homes, and it can be fatal.
Prepare for winter storms by stocking up on extra canned goods, ready-to-eat meal items and batteries while out shopping. If you prepare an emergency stockpile slowly, it can be much more affordable. With a little preparation and work, you and your home can be ready for any weather that may be coming this winter. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”- Benjamin Franklin. bar, bonus room, and a half bath that could be finished into a full bath. There is plenty of storage and lots of built-in shelving in the hallway, and hidden storage under the stairs. Out back you can enjoy the deck, or head down to the lakefront pool. Come and see all this home has to offer!
You may have heard about the development in downtown Newnan at the old Brown Steel location. I have heard many different things regarding this property and its development; a conference center, a hotel, apartments, retail, restaurants, etc. In the rest of the article, I will share what is happening there. It is an exciting time for downtown Newnan!
57 E. Broad St. has attracted significant attention the last several years. The property, formerly the site for the business Caldwell Tanks, is located adjacent to the railroad tracks on 57 E. Broad St. and directly across from the historic train depot in downtown Newnan. The total size of the property is 5.59 acres. The city of Newnan purchased the property on March 12th, 2021, from the Broad Street Forum for $3,676,302, per the county tax records. A demolition permit was pulled on December 7th, 2021. Before the demolition, the property had many large industrial buildings in poor condition. These buildings had become eyesores and dangerous due to their poor state over the years. Now the property is cleared, vacant and ready for development. The city spent substantial money on 57 E. Broad St. since its purchase, with reports of as much as $7,000,000, including the purchase price, demolition, and development costs.
There were numerous interested parties in this location since the city purchased the property. On May 27th, 2025, the Newnan City Council approved conceptual plans for 57 E. Broad St. The plan includes a hotel, restaurant, offices, food hall, mixed use, parking, as well as access from Salbide Ave. On July 22nd, 2025, the City Council approved the sale of 57 E. Broad St. to Red Hills Hospitality Management LLC and Caldwell Development Industries LLC. As part of the deal, a 125-room Marriott Hotel is to be constructed.
This is a little recent history regarding the site. It will be interesting to see what unfolds. Reception has been mostly positive from what I have heard. This development should provide more amenities for downtown Newnan, as well as more housing, office space and much-needed additional parking. There is a demand for a hotel in downtown Newnan, and this should help the local merchants with their revenue and foot traffic.

West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) is gaining national recognition for its campus safety efforts thanks to the expertise and leadership of Police Chief James Perry. Earlier this year, Chief Perry was invited to write an article for Campus Safety Magazine highlighting WGTC’s implementation of the CENTEGIX mobile panic alert system. he system allows employees to press a wearable panic button, which instantly notifies campus police of the employee’s name and location.

People are so quick (eager?) to misunderstand each other these days that we can no longer simply say what we mean, we also have to say what we don’t mean if we don’t feel like overly clarifying ourselves after people are already offended.

Thanksgiving is a season of gratitude, togetherness, and family. But for many of our neighbors, the holiday can bring more stress than joy as they struggle to put a meal on the table. At Bridging the Gap, we believe every family deserves to experience the warmth of a holiday meal shared with loved ones.
In 2024, a Thanksgiving box cost just $62, enough to provide a full holiday meal for a family. But as prices continue to rise, that same box now costs nearly $77 in 2025. Inflation may have increased the cost, but it hasn’t changed our mission—to make sure no family in our community goes without a Thanksgiving dinner.
Each Thanksgiving box includes a turkey or ham, seasonal sides, vegetables, dessert, and pantry staples. It’s more than just food—it’s hope, dignity, and the reminder that our community cares.
This year, we invite you to partner with us through Operation: Gobble Gobble to make Thanksgiving possible for hundreds of families across Coweta County and beyond. Whether through financial sponsorship or in-kind donations, your support helps us place these meals directly into the hands of families who need them most. Together, we can feed, serve, and restore hope this holiday season.
Every gift helps us put Thanksgiving on the table for families in need. Join us in Operation: Gobble Gobble and choose the sponsorship level that best fits your ability to give:
$1,000 Harvest Helper → Feeds 13 families
$2,500 Table Setter → Feeds 32 families
$5,000 Gratitude Giver → Feeds 65 families
$7,500 Community Feast Builder → Feeds 97 families
$10,000 Cornucopia Champion → Feeds 129 families
$15,000 Blessings Bearer → Feeds 194 families
$20,000 Thanksgiving Hero → Feeds 258 families
Local Impact: Every dollar and donation stays in Coweta and surrounding counties.
Efficiency: Over 95¢ of every dollar goes directly into our mission.
Community Recognition: Sponsors will be highlighted on our website, social media, and Thanksgiving distribution event materials.
Together, we can ensure families experience the joy, dignity, and togetherness of a true Thanksgiving meal. Let’s Bridge the Gap this Thanksgiving.
Not every gift has to be financial. We also rely on food donations to help fill our Thanksgiving boxes. We are seeking:

Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corporation (YMMC) and DHL Supply Chain are progressing with studies, permitting, and filings that could lead to the construction of a new, state-of-the-art distribution facility on YMMC’s Newnan, Georgia campus.
The proposed 784,700-square-foot facility, representing an estimated $60–90 million investment, would be solely dedicated to YMMC operations.
If approved, the new facility is expected to improve efficiency while also benefitting the community. Currently, freight traffic flows between YMMC’s main plant and off- site distribution centers, contributing to congestion along Highway 34 and surrounding intersections. By potentially consolidating logistics operations on the YMMC campus, the facility could reduce truck traffic on local roads, easing congestion and improving safety – with no added cost to taxpayers.

Don’t
We all have those “someday” trips in our heads — you know the ones we imagine saving for retirement, or when our calendars are clear and we can finally take our time.
But after spending 23 days bouncing through five countries last month, here’s what I can tell you: someday isn’t promised. And if you wait too long, you might not have the health, the energy, or even the chance to make it happen.
We just got back from Europe, and let me tell you, it was equal parts breathtaking, chaotic, exhausting and hilarious. Picture postcard-perfect views, a few misadventures I’ll be laughing about forever, and more pasta and gelato than my waistline will forgive. But underneath it all was this big, flashing neon reminder: don’t keep putting off the things you dream about. If we had waited for life to be “perfect,” this trip would have never happened. Here’s what the journey taught me:
1. Travel isn’t always smooth – but it’s always worth it.
We crammed onto a fast train from Rome to Venice (picture ants with luggage stampeding to the platform), got pulled over in Paris when our Uber driver was arrested — yes, really, and we were briefly detained, too. We hopped on the wrong water taxi in Venice only to end up right back where we started, and just in time for the rain to start. None of it was ideal in the moment, but every single “oops” became a story I’ll tell forever.
2. The world is alive right now – go see it.
The ruins of Herculaneum, the grandeur of St. Peter’s Basilica, Rome’s fountains, Tuscany’s hills rolling like patchwork quilts — history and beauty don’t wait. Venice dared us to master its bridges (we would have preferred it not to be in the rain, though that was part of the charm). The Venice Film Festival was happening while we were slogging through flooded alleyways. George Clooney may have had champagne on the red carpet, but honestly, I wouldn’t trade our umbrella march for anything.
3. Age, ability matter more than you think. Climbing endless cathedral steps, lugging
with BETH DOW, Geriatric Care Manager
suitcases across cobblestones, or heaving them into a water taxi may be easy when you’re 30. In your late 60s, though, you realize just how quickly those things could become impossible if you wait another decade. This trip was a gift and a reminder: go while you can.
4. The souvenirs that matter aren’t the ones you pack.
Sure, we brought home Murano glass, a bottle of wine (from the Dow vineyard—how cool is that?), canned sardines (the store actually had a sardine tasting room), and more gelato calories than I care to admit. But the real keepsakes? Laughing at our mishaps. Eating dinner under the stars in Rome. Standing in front of art I discovered I actually like. Feeling tiny in the shadow of buildings that have stood for centuries. Those are the souvenirs that last.
5. Life’s too short for “someday.”
Every city, every meal, every moment of wonder whispered the same message: don’t wait. Book the trip. Order the pasta. Take the blurry photo. Let your feet ache. Let the rain ruin your hair. Because someday, you won’t get the chance.
Travel doesn’t have to be 23 days and five countries. It can be a weekend drive, a short flight, or a quick cruise. What matters isn’t the scale – it’s choosing now over “someday.”
Don’t wait for the perfect time. I remind my husband often: we’re not getting any younger, and travel isn’t getting any cheaper. So why not go now? September marks National Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Awareness Month. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), AFib is an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), a condition where the heart beats in an irregular, often fast, way. When a heart is in AFib, it may not be pumping enough oxygen-rich blood out to the body, which can led to other heart-related complications.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) it is estimated that 12.1 million people in the U.S. will have AFib in 2030. While it is the most common type of arrhythmia, many people do not know they have AFib until they are at a routine doctor’s appointment or they are hospitalized for complications caused by AFib. Compared to people without, those with AFib, even without symptoms, have a fivetimes-greater risk of stroke, three-times-greater risk of heart failure and two-times-greater risk of dementia.
Board-certified electrophysiologist and cardiologist Aaron Cole Richardson, D.O., says it is important for residents to increase their awareness of atrial fibrillation and other common conditions treated by electrophysiology, because without treatment, AFib can lead to blood clots, stroke, and heart failure.
Symptoms can include:
• Rapid or irregular heartbeat or pulse
• Skipped heartbeats
• Chest palpitations (common)
• Lightheadedness or fainting
• Confusion
• Extreme fatigue
• Shortness of breath
• Chest pain, or angina (seek immediate medical attention at an emergency room)
Dr. Richardson cautions patients not to overlook the more subtle symptoms, such as fatigue, if they do not experience palpitations, as they may or may not be present.
“Different patients have different symptoms. Some describe AFib as feeling like skipped heartbeats; some as an erratic heartbeat, strong heart palpitations, or simply a rapid heartbeat; while for others it feels like a fluttering, butterflies or even a flopping fish in their chest; while some patients don’t have any symptoms at all,” says Dr. Richardson. “If you suspect you may have this condition or another cardiac issue, he recommends scheduling an appointment with a cardiologist as soon as possible.”
Dr. Richardson also recommends seeing your primary care physician (PCP) annually and to be aware of any factors that may increase your risk of AFib, including high blood pressure, a prior heart attack or heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea, and prior heart surgery. Controlling these risk factors may prevent AFib from developing.
In addition to regular check-ups with your PCP, Dr. Richardson recommends self-monitoring your heart at home, and checking it on a daily basis.
Piedmont celebrated the opening of Piedmont Primary Care at Arbor Springs, located at 9 Arbor Springs Terrace, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 20 to mark this milestone in bringing expanded access to primary care in Newnan. With three primary care providers now accepting new patients, and soon a pediatrician, the Arbor Springs location brings more convenient, personalized care to the community. This new clinic offers same-day appointments, online scheduling, and video visits, making it easier than ever for patients to connect with trusted providers. To schedule an appointment, call 770.400.7270 or visit piedmont.org
“If you notice your heartrate is greater than 110bpm at rest and/or irregular, it’s probably time to visit and talk with your doctor about it,” explains Dr. Richardson.
While AFib is serious, Dr. Richardson says that early detection and management are key.
“People can live long, healthy and active lives with AFib. Controlling your risk factors for heart disease, stroke and knowing what can trigger your AFib will help improve your long-term management of AFib. The most important thing you can do is work with your doctor or other health care professionals to make sure you’re doing all you can to prevent complications that could occur as a result of AFib,” says Dr. Richardson.
Dr. Richardson is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. He specializes in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders ranging from atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, heart block, bradycardia, atrial flutter, premature ventricular contractions, and ventricular tachycardia, with a special interest in the treatment and management of atrial fibrillation, leadless pacing, and cardiac resynchronization therapy.
Available at Piedmont Heart Institute in Newnan and Fayetteville, Dr. Richardson welcomes new patients and accepts most insurance plans. To schedule an appointment, visit piedmont.org

By potentially consolidating logistics operations on the YMMC campus, the facility could reduce truck traffic on local roads, easing congestion and improving safety – with no added cost to taxpayers.
“This opportunity is about more than logistics,” said Bob Brown, President of YMMC. “It’s about strengthening our supply chain while also being a good neighbor. We are working carefully through the necessary studies and permitting to ensure this project would benefit both Yamaha and the community for years to come.”
Key potential benefits of the DHL Supply Chain facility include:
• A dedicated, world-class logistics hub to support Yamaha’s manufacturing operations
• The reduced truck traffic on local roads by consolidating operations on campus
• Thoughtful site design to maintain the character of the surrounding area • The project would invest in roadway improvements such as new turn lanes and upgraded intersections to improve traffic flow and safety
• Sustainable features including stormwater management systems, tree buffers, and pervious surfaces to reduce environmental impact
Pending successful completion of studies and required approvals, construction could begin as early as 2026, with operations potentially starting the first quarter of 2028.
“As North America’s leading contract logistics provider, DHL Supply Chain is committed to delivering integrated, end-to-end solutions that drive efficiency and resilience for our partners. We’re proud to collaborate with Yamaha on a project that not only enhances supply chain performance but also supports infrastructure improvements that benefit the Newnan community. Together, we’re building smarter, more sustainable logistics that enable long-term growth and shared success.,” said Dave Rumler, President of Automotive Engineering and Manufacturing at DHL Supply Chain North America.
