Bridging the Gap FREE Summer Lunch Program
The BTG FREE Summer Lunch Program is available to any child 18 and under. Our goal is to make sure that all children have access to food even when school is not in session. As school doors close for the summer, the need for reliable meals continues for many children across our community. BTG Community Outreach is committed to ensuring that no child goes hungry by expanding its Summer Lunch Program to seven locations this year.
This program provides nutritious, ready-to-eat meals to children who may otherwise lack consistent access to food during the summer months. For many families, this support is not just helpful — it is essential.
Community support is critical to sustaining this effort. A contribution of $50 provides 10 summer lunch meals, directly impacting a child in need.

Elizabeth Banks is an actress whose character meets a nice young man and they decide to have an adult sleepover. Purpose of said sleepover is to see if they like each other enough to maybe have breakfast, or another sleepover.
Unfortunately, Banks’ character gets locked out of the apartment for some reason I cannot recall. I do recall her car keys and wallet are inside her new friend’s apartment. Call him!! everyone says in unison.
Oops. Phone is in the apartment as well. The movie is called Walk of Shame, and yes, the movie is exactly about that. By the way, “Do The Google” on Miss Banks. She is one of those actresses where you go, “oh yeah, I remember her.” Hint - Hunger Games.
So, Miss Banks’ car is in the parking lot. She has no keys. She has no wallet and she has no phone. Oh, and she has a potential life-changing job interview in the morning. On the other side of Los Angeles. (The movie is set in Los Angeles, by the way.)
A long way to get to the lede (yes, that is spelled correctly) of this column: And that is: You have a life-changing interview in Atlanta. You have no car, no wallet and more importantly, no phone. What are you going to do?
I was hanging out with some of the other cool folks who work in downtown Newnan at 15 Perry Street (drop by and check it out) and this came up. What would you do without your phone?
Let’s start with this: You know by heart your spouse’s number; the number of your old house where you grew up; and …?
I know Corby’s number, my old lake house number, the switchboard number of the company I worked at for 25 years and mine. For the record, I only know mine because everyone always asks for it.
I never call it. Because I am very worried I might actually answer and … that would just be weird.
I do not know my parents’ numbers, nor my three sons or my favorite daughter-in-law’s (I only have one by the way, as she repeatedly points out. Still my favorite as of today). I have them all on speed dial, but hell no, I could not remember their number with a gun to my head.
And, I am guessing, neither do you. It’s okay. I feel your pain. I used to know 100 plus numbers, now it is five. Maybe. We have created a device that we literally could not live without. And no, you do not get to go and say “get on your laptop, look up your contacts and use the voice app to call them!!”
That is missing the point.
Technology is awesome. Until it is not. My phone lets me know that the incoming call is Spam. This creates a hell of a dilemma.
If I answer … okay, let’s all laugh out loud. If I ignore it … the phone keeps ringing and no one is happy. If I cancel it, the spam goes straight to my mailbox, which will soon max out. I am getting more than 60 such calls a day. One time, I got 3 in under 8 minutes.
I am now forced to keep my phone on mute. And go in every few hours and delete all the bankers who tell me my loan is approved and I just need to answer a couple of questions to finalize.
And I appreciate Google or whomever showing me some collection of photos that I might want to save. But not really. Go match all my socks, that would be more helpful.
And “Google” AI is impressed with my dog as my screen saver. Yeah, we are safe. And finally … do you go to the bathroom without your phone? Ever?

Piedmont Newnan Department of Volunteers Awards Scholarships to Students of Hospital Employees
The Piedmont Newnan Hospital Department of Volunteers recently awarded $10,000 in scholarships to students who are children or dependents of full-time and part-time Piedmont Newnan Hospital employees.
“It is an honor to be able to assist the children and dependents of our hospital employees with their education costs,” said Jeannie Johns, Piedmont Newnan volunteer coordinator and a member of the scholarship selection committee. “We receive numerous applications each year and it is a joy to read about the goals these young adults have and ways they will impact our communities in the future.”
The Piedmont Newnan Hospital Department of Volunteers Scholarship is funded by proceeds from the Poplar Shop gift shop and sales from events throughout the year and awarded to students pursing post high school education.
This year, five recipients were each awarded a $2,000 scholarship. The winners included:
• Omolade Adeniyi, daughter of Abimbola Adeniyi, 7 Med/Surg, attends the University of West Georgia and is pursuing a degree as a registered nurse.
• Mayson Glover, daughter of Chris Glover, lead medical laboratory scientist at Piedmont Newnan, attends The University of Georgia and is pursuing a degree to become a veterinarian.
• Mary Hollis Kidd, daughter of Missy Kidd, supervisor of Oncology Navigation, just graduated from Newnan High School and will attend Ole Miss in the fall. She is pursuing a degree to become a nurse anesthetist.
• Rhea Patel, daughter of Mayur Patel, M.D., a pulmonary critical care physician at Piedmont Newnan, just graduated from Newnan High School and will attend Georgia Institute of Technology this fall. She is pursuing a degree to become an orthopedic surgeon.
• Addison Schriks, daughter of Michael Schriks, Oncology Director at Piedmont Newnan, just graduated from Trinity Christian School and will attend the University of Georgia in the fall. She is pursuing a degree in biological sciences with a career path in medicine.
“Congratulations to all of our scholarship winners,” said Johns. “We wish you much success in your future education and hope this scholarship makes a positive difference in your lives.”

In honor of May being American Stroke Awareness Month, Piedmont held education events in the community and at the hospital to inform staff, visitors and community members of the risks of strokes and warning signs, including the BE FAST acronym, which stands for Balance problems, Eye or vision changes, Face drooping, Arm or leg weakness, Speech difficulty and Time to call 911. Identifying both risk factors and warning signs is critical for prevention and rapid response. Piedmont Newnan is a Primary Stroke Center, providing high quality stroke care to our community.

In honor of Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month in April, Piedmont Newnan hosted two events to help educate the community about head and neck cancers. A free screening, held in partnership with Mark El-Deiry, M.D., surgical oncologist, and ENTs Mark McClinton, M.D. and James Burson, M.D. welcomed by nearly 90 people. Attendees were able to learn if they had any health concerns that needed follow-up care.
In addition, Dr. El-Deiry led the April Walk with a Doc to promote awareness and prevention, while also discussing the latest in surgical innovations and treatments offered at Piedmont.
On April 15, 2026, Piedmont Newnan held a ribbon cutting for their new Piedmont Physicians Obstetrics & Gynecology Newnan at Piedmont Medical Plaza II practice, located at 795 Poplar Road, Suite 201. The opening of this office is part of Piedmont’s investment in growing OBGYN services to better serve our community. Over the past year, Piedmont Physicians welcomed six new OBGYN providers, including Erica Morris, M.D., Brianna Miles, M.D., Mishal Khan, M.D., Cynthia Nater Tzilianos, M.D., Ornogeah Wurah, M.D., and LaToya Stephens, M.D. In addition, last October, Piedmont Newnan Hospital added a 4-bed Obstetrics ED, providing 24 hour emergency obstetrics care in our Emergency Department. Piedmont Newnan hospital delivers about 1,000 babies a year and is equipped to provide specialized care if needed in our Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Childrens Connect Museum Kicks Off Fundraising Campaign
The ChildrenConnect Museum officially kicked off its inaugural fundraising campaign.
The museum, located on Temple Avenue in downtown Newnan, is a hands-on, play-based museum for children up to age 12, focusing on creativity, exploration, and learning through interactive exhibits and STEM activities.
The Giving Tree mural has spaces for donors to give funds, which are recognized as variously covered leaves, birdhouses and butterflies.
Special recognition was given to Pamela Prange,
founder of the museum; Georgia Shapiro, who was instrumental in saving the historical building; Alyssa Hale from Newnan High School, who painted the mural; and Dr. Ben Popple, for his contributions to the museum.
“Each of these individuals has made it possible for this museum to continue for future generations,” said Maryann Kuhn, museum director.

What To Expect –Sales Contract Process and Timeline
It is easy for Realtors to take for granted what we do every day. We know the general process and timeline for each transaction, though there is variation in every deal. A good Realtor considers their client’s point of view to educate them regarding both what is likely to transpire and what could potentially transpire. This article will cover the timelines of a contract from the seller’s point of view.
When a seller seems very surprised about something that happened in a real estate transaction, their agent should think “did I properly prepare my client?
During the first consultation, a Realtor should set expectations for their client, including timelines. Of course, things like value and commission should be discussed, but timelines are important as well. How long will it take the property to receive a contract? How long will it take for that contract to close? What about due diligence and appraisal periods?
Your agent can look at days on market, or how long it took for comparable properties to receive a contract. Depending on the property, this may be only a few days or several months. Knowing this sets expectations.
Once you an accept an offer, many sellers wonder now what? In our area, it is common for the buyer to have a due diligence period for a home inspection, an appraisal period for an opinion of the value of the home and a period for the buyer’s loan to be approved. There may be other timelines as well. For example, if the buyer has a home to sell, they may have a contingency period for their home to sell before purchasing yours.
It is common right now, for a due diligence period to be between 7-14 days depending on the buyer’s situation. An appraisal contingency is typically 7-25 days. There is a larger deviation here due to where the buyer may be in the loan process as well as how capable and efficient a lender is. It is wise to know as much as about the buyer and lender when considering a contract. The contingency for the loan approval is typically 14-30 days. Again, a wide range here is due to the many variables of both the buyer’s and lender’s situation.
When all is said and done, most contracts take 30-60 days to close. The closing attorney typically needs at least a week to run a title search on the property to investigate if there are any liens, title issues, etc. Knowing the timelines and what to expect ensure a smoother transaction for everyone.

June starts the summer streaming season with a familiar paradox: the platforms promise fresh heat while mostly serving the stars, brands and franchises subscribers already know. That does not make the month empty. It means the question is whether safe bets can still feel dangerous.
Netflix opens June with a high-profile rom com and a courtroom documentary timed against one of the year’s biggest pop-culture reclamation projects.
Office Romance (June 5) — Jennifer Lopez returns to romantic comedy mode opposite “Ted Lasso” breakout Brett Goldstein, who also co-wrote the film with Joe Kelly. The premise — a powerful CEO falling for a new employee — sounds like oldschool star machinery with a workplace-comedy engine. Netflix often uses celebrity casting as a substitute for theatrical sparkle, and Lopez remains one of the few performers who can make a streaming premiere feel like an event.
Michael Jackson: The Verdict (June 3) — As “Michael” continues its theatrical effort to reshape the King of Pop’s legacy, Netflix counters with a three-part documentary revisiting Jackson’s 2005 criminal trial. The series uses courtroom insiders and trial participants to reconsider a case that was legally decisive but culturally unresolved.
Apple gives subscribers prestige productions with grown-up casts, literary roots and just enough genre weirdness to keep things from feeling too tidy.
Cape Fear (June 5) — John D. MacDonald’s story, filmed in 1962 and reimagined by Martin Scorsese in 1991, gets another pass, this time as a limited series. Javier Bardem steps into Max Cady’s menace, with Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson as the Bowdens. Steven Spielberg and Scorsese are among the executive producers. The risk is stretching a pressure-cooker thriller into series form. The upside is a cast capable of turning domestic dread into appointment viewing.
Sugar (June 19) — Colin Farrell returns as John Sugar for a second season of Apple’s modern noir, a show that began as a Los Angeles detective story and then swerved into stranger territory. Farrell’s bruised elegance is still the hook, but the appeal now is whether the series can balance private-eye melancholy with its more fantastical elements.
HBO Max brings dragons, presidential sketch history and the kind of brand confidence that comes from knowing subscribers still associate HBO with Sunday-night television.
House of the Dragon (June 21) — After the smaller “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” HBO returns to the massive end of Westeros with season three of “House of the Dragon.” Season two often felt like a long fuse. Season three appears ready to light it. Expect the civil war to widen, the dragon math to get bloodier, and the Targaryen family tree to keep doubling as a crime scene.
Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness (June 26) — Larry David returns to HBO with a seven-episode comedy/history hybrid executive produced with Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground. The pairing with the Obamas sounds like a joke Larry David’s fictional self would reject as too broad, which is exactly why it has curiosity value.
Peacock’s June strategy is simple: keep viewers checking back, preferably every day.
Love Island USA (June 2) — Season eight brings Ariana Madix back as host and keeps leaning into the show’s daily-release rhythm. In an era when streamers keep debating binge drops versus weekly releases, “Love Island” has settled on something closer to summer sports: nightly habit, instant reaction, endless social churn.
Strung (June 26) — Malcolm D. Lee (see 2017’s “Girl’s Trip”) directs this Peacock psychological thriller starring Chloe Bailey and Coco Jones, with Blumhouse and Tyler Perry Studios behind it. Bailey plays a violinist pulled into the orbit of a wealthy Los Angeles family, which sounds like the kind of polished, pulpy mid-budget thriller streaming was built to absorb.
The Bear (June 25) — Hulu’s big June event is the fifth and final season of FX’s “The Bear,” arriving with all eight episodes available at launch. The Emmy-winning restaurant series helped make Jeremy Allen White a star and turned kitchen panic into prestige television. The final season has to make all that anxiety add up to something. After several seasons of heat, noise and beautifully plated dread, the question is whether the show can stick the landing without overcooking the order.
Disney+ continues to mine the MCU and the “Star Wars” universe, but the platform’s biggest June event is the streaming debut of James Cameron’s divisive blockbuster “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”
Avatar: Fire and Ash (June 18) – l NO Fix Rating 5/10 – Cameron’s latest return to Pandora once again proves that nobody working in mainstream filmmaking can match his command of large-scale visual spectacle. The immersive imagery and richly detailed world-building remain astonishing. But as the “Avatar” franchise grows bigger, the storytelling has become increasingly cluttered and emotionally distant.
The latest installment throws countless subplots, characters, and conflicts at the audience, often at the expense of coherent dramatic momentum. Cameron’s screenplay strains to connect the moving parts, and the result frequently feels overstuffed rather than epic.
Bottom Line:
June’s streaming slate is not especially reckless, but it is strategically sturdy. Netflix has stars and scandal. Apple has polished prestige. HBO Max has dragons and Larry David. Hundreds of local residents showed up at four “pop-up” petition drives across the county to voice opposition to a planned data center.
Put on by Citizens for Rural Coweta, the group is trying to get enough votes to void a 3-2 vote by the Coweta County commissioners to approve redevolpment of 800 acres in rural Coweta to build a massive date center larger than downtown Newnan. The proposal is known as Project Sail.
Come see cars and trucks from bygone days at the 3rd Annual 4th of July Car Show at the History Center’s McRitchie-Hollis Museum parking lot! The event opens at 9:30 a.m., just after the 4th of July parade in downtown Newnan. Be sure to stop by before 1 when the cars will zoom away! Owners will be on hand to discuss their unique vehicles and answer questions.
Please park in the UWG-Newnan parking lot and walk the short distance to the History Center’s back lot.
Though this is a FREE event please consider making a donation to benefit the History Center!
