Capsule Reviews … New Rating System - A “Fix" is recommended with a rating between 6 and 10! a “No Fix” with ratings of 1 to 5 isn’t. http://dailyfilmfix.com/
FUBAR: Season 2 (June 12) – Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as Luke Brunner, whose retirement from the CIA is delayed when he discovers that his daughter, Emma (Monica Barbaro), is also a secret agent. “The Matrix” star Carrie-Anne Moss joins the cast, playing a former East German spy who may have a romantic past with Luke. Other returning cast members include comedian Fortune Feimster, Travis Van Winkle, Jay Baruchel, and Tom Arnold (who shared the screen with Arnold in “True Lies”). This wacky series is ridiculous by diverting entertainment.
Squid Game: Season 3 (June 27) – More games are teased in the final season of the Korean worldwide sensation, “Squid Game.” After failing to succeed in his rebellion in season 2, Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) returns to battle the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) for control of the game. Expect more challenges, both psychological and bloody physical, as the blockbuster series reaches the end of its epic run.
Stick (new episodes weekly) - – l Fix Rating 6/10 – Owen Wilson gives this lowkey comedy drama some much-needed everyman charisma by playing Pryce “Stick” Cahill, an affable former golf pro looking for a second career as a coach and manager. When Stick notices Santi Wheeler (Peter Dager) hitting balls at a local driving range, he can’t believe the boy’s talent. Determined to pull himself out of a downward spiral, Stick approaches Santi and his mother, Elena (Mariana Treviño), about going on the road to qualify for the tour. But Santi’s past struggles might threaten Stick’s plan. This show is fun (especially for golfers) and features a winning cast, including Marc Maron as Stick’s former caddie. HBO Max (formerly HBO Go, HBO Now, HBO Max, and Max):
Cleaner (June 13) – This familiar-looking actioner stars Daisy Ridley (Rey from the “Star Wars” films) and Clive Owen. From the trailers, “Cleaner” appears to be
another “Die Hard” imitation, as Ridley’s ex-soldier turned hi-rise window cleaner attempts to thwart the efforts of hijackers who disrupt a gala event in a skyscraper. Clive Owen is the villain frustrated by Ridley’s poison pill. Martin Campbell (see “Casino Royale”) directs.
Jaws (June 15) – l Fix Rating 10/10 – To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film that created the concept of the summer blockbuster, Peacock is giving subscribers all four “Jaws” films. Of course, the first two are the only ones of note, with the second one lacking Steven Spielberg’s dedicated direction. It’s hard to believe that “Jaws” is 50 years old, but regardless, it is one of the best films of the 1970s and might crack top 25 lists of the best films of all time. Scary, funny, and rawly entertaining, few movies other than this one can lay a clear claim to being the definitive summer thrill ride that is consistently rewatchable.
Drive-Away Dolls (June 12) – l NO Fix Rating 4/10 – In my long-form review, I said, “The mildly amiable farce is thankfully short, but this failure doesn’t bode well for other standalone Ethan Coen productions.” I’m in no mood to revisit this one, but for those that might plan on seeing “Honey Don’t” in August, you might want to check “Dolls” out because it is part of a series referred to as the “lesbian B-movie trilogy.” The whole B-movie designation is a way of blunting some of the criticism that “Dolls” received, but just because a movie is a B-movie (not a prestige offering and made with a small budget) doesn’t mean it has to be a bad film. And “Dolls” just isn’t very good, regardless of its A, B, Z, or other distinctions.
I saw it in the PAPER … Jonathan Hickman’s Streaming
Ironheart (series premiere June 24) – The MCU continues to mine its content for other characters to showcase in standalone outings. “Ironheart” focuses on Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), who we met in
2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” In addition to creating a device that could detect vibranium, Riri, a super-smart MIT student, also built an Iron Man-like suit. In “Ironheart,” we follow this genius inventor as she plies her clever talents (and builds the ultimate suit of armor) against Parker Robbins, aka The Hood (played by Anthony Ramos).
Look for Jonathan’s July Streaming Recommendations in our next issue. It might include …
• The Sandman: Season 2 • Bachelor in Paradise: Season 7
• Ballard • It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 17 • South Park
• Big Brother: Season 27 • Dexter: Resurrection
• Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Season 3 • Acapulco
• Big Brother: Unlocked • Twisted Metal: Season 2 or somethings else!
I feel like I should start this column with a “good morning” or “good afternoon” or something. It’s June 9th as I write this. In a few hours, we are, as they say in our world, “going to press.”
And with that said, it’s probaby a good time to address the elephant in the room. If you are reading this and think to yourself that something seems different, you are not going crazy.
Welcome to the new version of The Paper. This is the third and by far most notable change, And our other publication, The Coweta Shopper, is getting the same makeover. More on that in a minute.
Since starting The Paper more than 10 years ago, the publication always had a more rectangular look, taller than it was wide. Now, it’s pretty much square. So what brought on the change?
Economic uncertainty seems to be the buzzword these days and amply applies in this case. The printing company that, well, printed and delivered our newspapers, jacked up our rates by more than 35 percent.
I guess you could say they just didn’t want our business any more and despite trying to work something out, we couldn’t. And so we went with a new printer.
Newspaper presses come in all shapes and sizes and most important, configurations. The press company we are now with has a more traditional setup - thus the more square look of The Paper. It’s basically a sheet of newsprint folded in half.
I want to thank our team of Joey Howard and Ruth Doyal, who have spent the last two weeks completely changing everything we do. Each ad had to be resized. And I mean every single ad, whether we built it or it came directly from our clients.
They did an amazing job.
We have one other big change coming up, because if you are going to change, might as well do it all at once.
The Coweta Shopper has been around since 1989. Up until now, it was a zoned publication that went to a different part of the county each week. We had three small Shoppers that went out the second, third and fourth weeks. All that is changing.
The Coweta Shopper will now be a “super” Shopper - we are combining the three publications into one larger one.
The Paper will continue to go out the first week of the month. The bigger Shopper will go out the third week of the month. About half of each will be mailed, with the rest distributed to more than 125 locations throughout the county and surrounding areas. Both publications will start with 10,000 circulation.
There are a couple of advantages with this new schedule. We can cover the entire county every other week rather than taking a month. We can also increase circulation much more cost effectively. The biggest expense with printing is getting the press set up. Once it is running, the cost starts to drop significantly as we are only paying for ink and newsprint.
Change is inevitable. We were not ready for this drastic of a change, but our team has pulled it together. Our commitment to our readers and advertisers has not change - just the look.
And so, welcome to the new Paper and Coweta Shoppers
Until next time.

Everyone in Coweta County knows there are great options when it comes to Mexican food. But who has the best? The large popular restaurants tend to overshadow the smaller taquerias and restaurants where you will find the best and most authentic tacos and other mouthwatering fare.
Five years ago, we moved to Newnan from a small rural town in Connecticut. As self-proclaimed connoisseurs of tacos, we were pretty excited to find Coweta County full of hole-in-the wall taquerias and Mexican restaurants that in our past, would have required a long drive.
Traveling the country we have tried more tacos than we can count and quickly realized we could find some of the best we’ve ever had right down the road. We enjoy incorporating a stop at one of these fine establishments on our typical afternoon Harley ride, and before long we found ourselves with a ranking list of all the taco spots in Georgia that we have been to, as a quick reference guide for future rides.
When it comes to tacos, we have some pretty strong opinions, so while we could talk about the best tacos from Valdosta to Blue Ridge, here are some places you may love without going far.
Our favorites:
La Casa Del Taco, 173 SR-85, Senoia, GA
This taqueria ran out of a food truck with a great covered outdoor seating area, full-service staff, and an extensive menu. Here you will find some amazing authentic tacos with homemade tortillas, chicken and pork tamales, and Mexican street corn. We also appreciate that they give a variety of salsas with their tacos as well.
Tacos Mi Veracruz, 21 Bullsboro Dr., Newnan, GA
This restaurant stands out for their authentic style food and delicious menu options. It has a quiet atmosphere and is smaller than others you will find in Newnan. Wonderful service with attention to detail on their food makes it a great choice for lunch or dinner. Also, large margarita and ice-cold Mexican beers to cheers with friends or for a relaxing family night out.
Juquilta 2, 272 Greenville St S, Newnan , GA
Just south of downtown you will find four taquerias, all on route 27 that are very good, but this one stands out as the best. This small taqueria built into a grocery store offers very flavorful tacos with many choices of meat options, along with other authentic Mexican options. Our favorite tacos here are their steak (Asada) tacos!
Do not forget to do your own exploring around Coweta to see if you agree with us or find your own favorites!
Life is short, eat tacos!

Summer is peeking around the corner which is so exciting. Whether you are at the beach or on your front porch, a good book is the best way to celebrate summer!
I have a few book recommendations for the summer:
• One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune. This is a perfect summer book as you can tell by the title! This is the second title in the Barry Bay’s series. It was nice to revisit some of the characters from Every Summer After. This book focuses on Charlie and Alice. Alice spends the summer in Barry’s Bay with her grandmother who is recovering from a fall. Alice took a photo of Charlie when they were teens that became very well-known but the two have never met until now. This is a story of a summer at the lake, family, and romance.
• Retreat by Krysten Ritter. This is a suspenseful thriller set in a Mexican villa. Liz is a con artist, and she has found not only the perfect con but a great opportunity to spend time in a fabulous location. However, Liz might have jumped into a situation without all the information. This was a twisty and delightful thriller about wealthy people and a main character who is bold and forges ahead into situations without thinking them through.
• The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick. This was a wonderful historical fiction book. It follows a group of four women as they struggle with marriage, family, and navigating the complex time of the 1960s. I couldn’t put this book down. It was so beautifully written and compelling.
• The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits by Jennifer Weiner. This book is about two estranged sisters who used to be famous musicians, The Griffin Sisters. The story was really fascinating and told from multiple points of view and timelines. This was a story of complicated family issues, music and forgiveness.
Another exciting thing about summer is the children and teen summer programs at the Carnegie. These programs are fully funded by the Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation and Newnan Kiwanis Club. We are excited to welcome back Beatin’ Path Percussion, Zoo Pro Adventures, Dr. Donald White, and Barry Mitchell. New performers and programs will include Christy Johns, Newnan Theatre Company improv, Brian Robert Magic, painting, and STEM. The complete summer schedule’s at newnancarnegie.com/summer-programs
Mayor Brady’s Summer Reading Challenge returns in 2025! We will have reading challenge logs available online and at the Carnegie. The challenge ends on July 26th with the Mayor’s End of Summer Reading Celebration.
Summer is a fantastic time to visit the library whether you are looking for books or programs. Any of our librarians are happy to give you book recommendations to keep your bookshelves full during the summer. We hope to see you soon!

Hmm. Pretty, pretty sure some women did amazing things 100 years ago this month.
Hats Off to everyone who made this event a huge success.
Our 2025 Hats and Hooves Fundraiser, presented by Blue Alpha, was a great success! Despite the weather, the community showed up for a wonderful night. It was a tremendous evening of fun, music, food, auctions and of course, the Derby!
While we all had a great time, it is important to understand that this event has a greater purpose: raising money to allow ELEVATE to support students in our community.
We are projected to serve more than 2,000 students this year and over 500 caseload students with staff on campuses at Ruth Hill and Welch elementary schools, Smokey Road Middle School, and East Coweta and Newnan High schools. We are excited to share that we expect a 92% graduation rate for our senior caseload students. We have also increased our mentorship program to over 300 volunteer mentors throughout the district, and created awareness of career opportunities for ELEVATE students by taking tours of local businesses.
Beyond providing basic needs for students, we have been able to conduct reading programs at Ruth Hill and Welch and, in partnership with Southern States Bank, offer a financial literacy program for select ELEVATE middle school students at Smokey Road. We have also provided Christmas presents and assisted with many daily school functions, prom, graduation, and more.
We’d like to thank all our sponsors, volunteers, and the community for all you do in support of ELEVATE Coweta Students.
As the population of aging veterans continues to grow across the nation, many families face challenges in finding personalized care solutions. Financial considerations can often be a significant hurdle in securing the support their loved ones need.
Many veterans of the U.S. military—including those who served in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, or Coast Guard— may not realize they could qualify for in-home care benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Your loved one may qualify for financial assistance to cover in-home personal care if they meet certain requirements:
• They served in active duty in the military, naval, or air service and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable.
• Members of the Reserves or National Guard may also qualify if they were called to active duty by a federal order (not for training purposes) and completed the full term of their service.
Veterans may be eligible for benefits
under the VA’s Community Care Network (CCN) program or the Aid and Attendance program.
Through the CCN program, veterans may receive coverage for home-health care services. This service can provide a variety of personal care needs, such as bathing and dressing, in addition to home maker needs, like cooking and housekeeping. A service care coordinator is assigned to assess the veteran’s care needs and determine the number of hours of care required each week. They will then contact a VA authorized agency, like Home Helpers, who will provide you with qualified caregivers. Payments for CCN services are made directly from the VA to the authorized care provider.
This program is available to veterans receiving a VA pension who require assistance with daily living activities. Eligibility criteria include:
• Needing help with tasks like dressing, bathing, or eating.
• Being confined to bed due to illness or injury.
• Residing in a nursing home.
• Having limited vision.
• Requiring supervision due to dementia or other cognitive diseases.
For veterans unable to leave their homes because of a permanent disability, the VA may provide additional “Housebound” benefits. These funds are typically added to the veteran’s monthly pension.
Families can apply for these benefits by completing VA Form 10-10EZ and submitting it to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Additional steps include:
• Visiting a local VA center to speak with a service coordinator, case manager, or social worker.
• Gathering documentation, including proof of military service, identification, financial records, and medical information, as required.
A VA service representative can guide you through the process and provide details on the documents needed.
It’s advisable to begin the application process as soon as possible—even before in-home care is required. Processing times can be lengthy, and early application can help avoid out-of-pocket expenses while waiting for approval.
Home Helpers is proud to assist veterans who wish to age in place by offering professional in-home care services. Our caregivers provide support with:
• Personal care tasks, such as bathing, grooming, and dressing.
• Household chores, including light cleaning, laundry and meal preparation.
• Assistance with mobility and toileting needs.
We’re here to help you navigate your loved one’s care options, including determining eligibility for VA benefits. Contact us today to schedule a free consultation and learn how our personalized care services can support your family and the veteran in your life. Call 678-876-5118 to set up a free consultation or visit our website at homehelpershomecare.com/newnan-ga.

With many diseases or illnesses, symptoms don’t occur until later stages – often when they create much more serious health issues and are more difficult to treat.
In light of Men’s Health Month in June, health care providers are issuing a call-to-action- to prioritize regular screenings and physicals to catch chronic diseases before they occur.
According to a 2022 Cleveland Clinic survey, men are significantly less likely than women to see a doctor or report symptoms to a health care provider. Only 60 percent of men get an annual physical or checkup, and 40 percent men report not going to a medical provider until something is wrong. Because of this, men are more likely to develop a chronic disease and illness than women.
“Men tend to sweep everything underneath the rug until something terrible happens,” said Sang Ha Shin, M.D., Internal Medicine, Piedmont Primary Care at Arbor Springs. “Patients should not have that misconception that if nothing is wrong, that they should not go in for a physical. You’re going in for a physical to make sure that you are not at an increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, etc. And the way we do that is to start off with measuring your height, your weight, your blood pressure, your pulse. You can tell a lot from just a patient’s vital signs.”
In addition to an annual physical, here are some top men’s health screenings doctors recommend:
• Prostate screening. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men in the United States. At your annual physical, you and your provider can discuss when you should schedule your first prostate screening based on your age and personal risk factors.
• Colorectal screening. The American Cancer Society recommends that people at average risk of colorectal cancer start regular screening at age 45. At your annual physical, you and your provider can discuss when you should schedule your first colorectal screening based on your personal risk factors.
• Lung cancer screening. Screening is recommended annually for adults aged 50 to 80 years who have a 20 pack-year smoking history and currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years.
Dr. Shin, who recently moved to the new Arbor Springs Primary Care location from Senoia, also recommends annual mental health screenings, which can typically be initiated via questionnaires during a primary care provider visit. Regular skin cancer exams and additional screenings may be recommended by physicians for various conditions based on certain risk factors, such as family history and lifestyle choices. A Primary Care Physician can help you determine what screenings are best for your long-term health.

June is National Cancer Survivors Month, and Piedmont Newnan is proud to recognize the strength, resilience and courage of cancer survivors in our local communities. It is a time to celebrate their journey, honor their stories and reaffirm Piedmont’s commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality care to all those affected by cancer.
To mark the month, Piedmont Newnan’s Thomas. F. Chapman Family Cancer Wellness Center hosted a Cancer Survivor Celebration at the hospital on Wednesday, June 4 to celebrate survivors and connect with the community. Nearly 40 cancer survivors attended the event and enjoyed a fiesta themed lunch and music from Pete Fodero.
The event, which was held on the Bistro patio at the hospital, brought cancer survivors together for an afternoon to reflect on their journey, share their experiences with other survivors, and thank those who have supported them along the way.
“We are very grateful to have had all these survivors together to celebrate their lives,” Jennifer H. Palmer, BS, JD, Program Coordinator, Thomas. F. Chapman Family Cancer Wellness. “Through all of our classes
and events, the patients and instructors have really become a family in Cancer Wellness. This event gave us an opportunity to all get together at once to eat, dance and talk in a fun setting. It is one of the highlights of the year and a great way to celebrate Cancer Survivor Month!”
The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation defines a survivor as anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life. According to the American Cancer Society, there are more than 480,000 cancer survivors in Georgia.
The Thomas F. Chapman Cancer Wellness program at Piedmont Newnan offers a variety of free support services and programs such as cooking demonstrations, yoga and support groups for patients undergoing treatment, as well as survivors.
As a not-for-profit hospital, Piedmont Newnan relies on the generosity of donors to offer many programs and advanced medical technology to the community. For more information about the cancer services provided by the hospital or to make a donation in support of the Cancer Wellness program, visit piedmont.org.
