The Old Guard 2 (July 2) – In 2020, Netflix scored a hit with this adaptation of the Greg Rucka graphic novel series. It helped that this over-the-top action movie starred Charlize Theron, having cemented her action chops in the wildly successful “Mad Max: Fury Road.” In “The Old Guard” and this new sequel, Theron plays Andy, a nearly indestructible warrior who has rooted out injustice over the centuries. After defeating a maniacal pharmaceutical head who attempted to exploit Andy and her team’s powers in the first film, Andy, now mortal, must confront the evil Discord (Uma Thurman), the first of their kind.
Happy Gilmore 2 (July 25) – Adam Sandler’s 1996 “Happy Gilmore” came after the comedic actor’s successful “Billy Madison.” While it was a modest theatrical success, “Gilmore” became a cult classic, with cultural influence on the sport of golf. Who could forget Gilmore’s on-course tirades and his epic fistfight with none other than Bob Barker (“the price is wrong, b—-h!”). As part of Sandler’s ongoing mega-deal with the streamer, it was inevitable that a Gilmore sequel would be mounted. This time, Gilmore resumes golfing to raise money for his daughter’s ballet school. Christopher McDonald is confirmed to return to the role of pro-golfer Scooter McGavin.
Foundation (season 3 premieres July 11) – Despite appealing to a niche science fiction audience, Apple continues to pour money into this multi-season adaptation of the best-selling Isaac Asimov novels. In this installment, “Game of Thrones” star Pilou Asbæk takes over the iconic role of the Mule, the season’s chief adversary, whose telepathic abilities can affect the balance of power. Like many handsomely produced Apple series, “Foundation” is one of the best shows that no one is watching.
Sinners (July 4) – l Fix Rating 8/10 – Soulful Delta blues music leads Ryan Coogler’s beautiful and ambitious “Sinners.” By blending historical realism with supernatural elements, Coogler’s wholly original project is a remarkable success featuring themes that resonated earlier this year with a powerful theatrical run. The hit film is set in 1930s Mississippi. In an impressive dual role, Michael B. Jordan plays enterprising twin brothers Smoke and Stack, whose aim to run a nightclub is disrupted by an Irish vampire (Jack O’Connell) looking to expand his bloodthirsty clan.
Twisted Metal (season 2 premieres on July 31) – The second season of the post-apocalyptic video game-inspired series gets 12 episodes (two more than season one). Anthony Mackie (MCU’s new Captain America) returns to play driver John Doe, along with expert car thief Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz), to enter the dangerous Twisted Metal demolition derby tournament. “Barry” star Anthony Carrigan joins the cast as the competition host Calypso.
Suspicious Minds (series premiere July 10) –Set on the fictional Pacific tropical island of Isla Esperanza, this heist romantic thriller stars Silvia Alonso as a master thief named Amber. Her latest job has evolved over several years, during which she embedded herself as the governess for a wealthy Mexican Oil tycoon’s children. But Amber’s best-laid plans are upset when her former lover and partner, Rui (Álex González), shows up looking to poach her score. The trailers pitch this playful series in Spanish as a sexy and fun summer escape.
“Never mind, Jim and I figured it out,”
“That’s great hon,” I replied. “Wait, what?”
“‘Jim and I figured it out.”
Okay, so at this point, I got out of my chair to see who Jim was and why he was in my house. Oh, and also what in the heck he was helping Corby with.
“So where is this Jim?” I ask.
And the Little Black Dress looks at me like I am some kind of crackpot who needs to be in one of those homes for, well, crackpots.
“Gemini!!’” she says, pointing at her phone.
Oh yeah, Gemini, the guest who just installed itself on my phone and won’t go away. For you precious snowflakes who believe Apple is all that and a bag of chips, Gemini is the new and very NOT improved Android version of Siri.
I was very happy with my “Hey Google” voice before - a sexy Australian female.Called her Danielle, and I would press a button and she’d tell me good morning in her little Australian accent and then tell me what all I had going on that day.
Now we have Hal 2000 from the Space Odyssey. Can we change the voice? No. In fact, Jim or Gemini or whoever made it very clear … that would be a NO!
And Jim is sort of an idiot at times, such as: “Hey Google, call Corby.” Lots of twirling going on inside my phone and then I get the Data voice saying, “Do you want me to call Corby?” So I have to say “yes,” or it won’t call Corby. And then it (Jim/Gemini) proudly says, “Calling Corby.”
LIke it should get a participation trophy or something.
Another major headache - in the past, I would ask Danielle a question and she would find whatever I needed and say, again in that cool Australian accent, “here’s what I found.” And then I would see various options and choose one and read it.
But not Gemini. No, Gemini will go find the answer to my question and then read it to me in the horrible Hal 2000 computer voice.
For example, I wanted to know if penguins have knees. They do, which you probably didn’t know, but let’s see what The Dork says.
“Yes, penguins have knees, but they are hidden inside their bodies by feathers, giving them a short-legged appearance.”
Which is kind of like asking if humans have knees because they are hidden by long pants. “Yes, humans have knees,” according to Jim/ Gemini/Hal, who does not elaborate.
Apparently, there might be a way to change the voice. Working on that. Stay tuned. Until next time.

Just Flip the Dog came about one day while Winters was publisher of the Juneau Empire in Alaska more than 26 years ago. His graphics team came up against an issue they just could not solve.
It was coming up on deadline to print the newspaper and they still couldn’t fix the problem, which involved printing out all the ads. The issue was that every time they hit ‘print,’ the ads would come out backwards.
So Winters came down and everyone explained how you are supposed to do “X” with the computer. And Winters said, well, why don’t you try doing “Y? And everyone freaked out because you are supposed to do “X” with the computer (literally hitting a specific button).
“Is doing X working” he asked.
“No,” everyone said.
“Then do Y (Y being the exact opposite of X in this case). Total silence because no one was going to go “but X makes it …”
So they did Y, which was literally flipping an icon of a dog upside down on the computer … and the ads came out the way they should have. (Check out justflipthedog.com for the full story).
In one of his first posts on justflipthedog.com , Winters explained the concept: “sometimes what is supposed to work doesn’t, for whatever reason. Instead of beating your head against a wall, try attacking the problem in a completely different way.”
I loved this concept and wanted Winters to write a book about this philosophy. Unfortunately, Winters was, as he put it, “writing a book every day putting out a newspaper”
So, being the wonderful wife that I am, I started writing chapters myself. All these years later I still believe Just Flip the Dog is far bigger than just a motto or a catch phrase. Just Flip The Dog is a personal and professional mindset. It is a transformative and unconventional approach to work, marriage, family and the meaning of Life; I began incorporating what I wrote in my professional counseling, coaching and speaking. In what Winters calls, my jump starter book, I wrote about all kinds of ways we can improve our professional and personal life. From my perspective, regardless of what you come up against, I want you to have the tools you need to be successful and perform at your best as well as in your passion and purpose.
And one of my favorite chapters is: Anticipating Trains
None of us wake up in the morning thinking we need to worry about trains. But the reality is trains can make us stop or change direction. When we moved to Grand Island, Neb., I had never seen so many trains - trains that went right through the middle of town at all hours. Trains make you late for work, an important meeting or a special family event.
Real trains or metaphorical trains, can have a long-term impact on the direction of your life. There is a reason those red lights are flashing and sometimes we are so busy we overlook them.
Trains or problems can pop up out of nowhere. Sometimes we totally miss the warning signs in our workplace or marriage. Some people panic, some seek help, some put their head in the sand and some rally in the midst of a crisis.
My hope is you will dig into your tool box of life skills and pull out whatever tools you need to face those life issues. I hope the tools I share will help you be the kind of person that can face problems or set backs head-on with a successful outcome.
Learning to be intuitive, discerning, and sensitive to the world around us are critical skills. Being willing to do something that looks totally incongruent and wrong to others and being willing to do a complete 180 just may be the best thing you ever do.
Some business trends are timeless and others just need to be tossed out. You are never too old to learn new skills, to change and learn to do life differently and better. Learning to implement new ways to do life will keep you from being left behind in this fast paced ever changing world.
It often takes courage. Doing it differently than everyone expects isn’t always the easy road. Anticipating trains I believe is a great place to start.
I hope you will join the journey of Just Flip The Dog

If you have not noticed lately, the local real estate market is changing quickly. The number of listings is up, and buyer demand is down. Even prices are starting to come down. If you are a homeowner and need to sell or are thinking about selling, you may think now is not the time. But homes are still selling; the difficulty in doing so has just increased.
The biggest challenge that I see for sellers right now is realizing how much the market is changing. The market is cooling, and prices are decreasing. Many people do not realize that right now. A home that was worth $750,000 three years ago, may only be worth $690,000 now. Many homeowners are still listing at these higher values despite recent adjustments in the local market. A knowledgeable and active real estate agent can advise you of local market conditions and values. Another option is to hire a local appraiser to appraise your house if you and the agent are having trouble doing so. This is the most important step in selling your home: pricing.
You only get one chance to make a first impression. This is an old tried and true phrase, but it is very true in real estate. This goes for both online and in-person nowadays. Having your home in top-notch condition and ready to show is a must as the market shifts.
From the driveway and the landscaping to the kitchen and bathrooms, make sure that the house is clean and decluttered with no outstanding repairs. Professional photos, videos and editing is very important in today’s world when most buyers are finding your home online. You or your agent should not have any reservation spending some time and money on presenting your property in the best light possible. After all, you only get one chance to make a first impression.
If you are a seller, patience and creativity in a market shifting to favoring the buyer is key. You may need to get more creative and think about where your home is being viewed. Maybe you have an equestrian property, and you need to advertise in appropriate groups on Facebook or equine publications. Or perhaps, you have an historic home. You need to be looking for outlets that have old house lovers and enthusiasts as their mailing base.
Buyers are going to try and negotiate more in these buyer markets as well. You may need to give. To borrow another old phrase, you may need to lose a battle (concede on something like closing costs) to win the war (sell the house).

Thousands gathered under clear Georgia skies on July 4th for the beloved Fireworks Over Newnan, a 39-year tradition celebrating community, patriotism, and the spirit of service. The event was presented by the Rotary Club of Newnan in partnership with the City of Newnan and Coweta County.
Ashley Collins, President & CEO of NewnanCoweta Habitat for Humanity, served as the Master of Ceremonies, welcoming families to the Newnan High School lower field for an evening of live music, local food trucks, and the annual “Most Patriotic Kid Contest.” The event culminated in a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the skyline as attendees cheered and reflected on the freedoms they cherish.
“It was an honor to help lead a tradition that brings our community together to celebrate what makes Newnan and America special: neighbors supporting neighbors,” said Collins. “This event is a reminder of the power of community, especially as we work to ensure everyone has a safe, decent place to call home.”
This year’s Most Patriotic Kid Contest gave children the unique honor of leading the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance before the fireworks began, highlighting the next generation’s role in preserving freedom and community pride.
Fireworks Over Newnan would not be possible without the dedicated volunteers, sponsors, and first responders who ensure the event remains a safe, welcoming tradition for all.

As the population of aging veterans continues to grow across the nation, many families face challenges in finding personalized care solutions. Financial considerations can often be a significant hurdle in securing the support their loved ones need.
Many veterans of the U.S. military—including those who served in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, or Coast Guard— may not realize they could qualify for in-home care benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Your loved one may qualify for financial assistance to cover in-home personal care if they meet certain requirements:
• They served in active duty in the military, naval, or air service and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable.
• Members of the Reserves or National Guard may also qualify if they were called to active duty by a federal order (not for training purposes) and completed the full term of their service.
Veterans may be eligible for benefits under the VA’s Community Care Network (CCN) program or the Aid and Attendance program.
Through the CCN program, veterans may receive coverage for home-health care services. This service can provide a variety of personal care needs, such as bathing and dressing, in
Home Helpers is proud to welcome Jojo Johnson as our Veteran’s Advocate. Jojo will help veterans navigate and access support through the VA Homemaker and Home Health Aide Program. A Minnesota native, she began her service to others at age 18 when she joined the U.S. Navy. She spent eight years as a Navy corpsman and went on to become a Registered Nurse. With a deep passion for patient advocacy— especially for her fellow veterans—Jojo brings both personal experience and professional expertise to her role.
addition to home maker needs, like cooking and housekeeping. A service care coordinator is assigned to assess the veteran’s care needs and determine the number of hours of care required each week. They will then contact a VA authorized agency, like Home Helpers, who will provide you with qualified caregivers. Payments for CCN services are made directly from the VA to the authorized care provider.
This program is available to veterans receiving a VA pension who require assistance with daily living activities. Eligibility criteria include:
• Needing help with tasks like dressing, bathing, or eating.
• Being confined to bed due to illness or injury.
• Residing in a nursing home.
• Having limited vision.
• Requiring supervision due to dementia or other cognitive diseases.
For veterans unable to leave their homes because of a permanent disability, the VA may provide additional “Housebound” benefits. These funds are typically added to the veteran’s monthly pension.
Families can apply for these benefits by completing VA Form 10-10EZ and submitting it to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Additional steps include:
• Visiting a local VA center to speak with a service coordinator, case manager, or social
worker.
• Gathering documentation, including proof of military service, identification, financial records, and medical information, as required.
A VA service representative can guide you through the process and provide details on the documents needed.
It’s advisable to begin the application process as soon as possible—even before in-home care is required. Processing times can be lengthy, and early application can help avoid out-of-pocket expenses while waiting for approval.
Home Helpers is proud to assist veterans who wish to age in place by offering professional in-home care services. Our caregivers provide support with:
• Personal care tasks, such as bathing, grooming, and dressing.
• Household chores, including light cleaning, laundry and meal preparation.
• Assistance with mobility and toileting needs.
We’re here to help you navigate your loved one’s care options, including determining eligibility for VA benefits. Contact us today to schedule a free consultation and learn how our personalized care services can support your family and the veteran in your life.
