Georgia’s Largest Thrift & Consignment Crawl is a one-day shopping event bringing together 13 local thrift and consignment stores for the largest coordinated crawl of its kind in the state. Taking place on Saturday, April 11, from 10am to 5pm, the crawl offers participants a unique opportunity to explore a curated network of locally owned shops spanning Peachtree City, Newnan, Tyrone, Senoia, and Gay. The road-trip event celebrates both affordable fashion and small-town charm across middle Georgia.
Participants will receive a “Crawl Passport” to be stamped at each store they visit. Completed passports can be entered for a chance to win a $50 gift card to the participating store of their choice, adding an extra incentive to visit as many locations as possible.
“This crawl is about more than just great deals,” said event coordinator Kara Jackson, Marketing Manager at Clothes Less Traveled Nonprofit Thrift Shops. “It’s the beginning of our movement to make secondhand shopping the first choice for our community. There are so many great thrift and consignment shops in our area that locals still don’t know about. We want to uplift every store because we are not in competition with one another. Working together to offer a ethical and sustainable alternative to ordering online or buying new, that’s what this crawl is really all about.”

This year, we have a new venue – The Coweta County Fairgrounds located at 275 Pine Road. This will be the 20th International Female Ride Day to be held across the globe. The Newnan Ride is an all-female ride planned and led by all-female riders and passengers! It is an incredible way to meet other females who love to ride and by coming together you can help to raise the awareness of women riders across the globe. The day will be a fun-filled day with a ride lasting approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.
After the ride, there will be music, food, silent raffle items, and all for a great cause! The net profit from this event will go to benefit Coweta County Sheriff’s Department Annual Bicycle Build.
For 2026, we’ve expanded the event with a pre-event Bike Night, and registration pick up at Line CreekReserve in Newnan on May 1st from 6-9 p.m. There is also a bike show at the event on Saturday, open to participants and the public. Two Wheels, Can Am Spyder, Can Am Rykers, Trikes and FrankenTrikes Welcome. We do not allow Slingshots for this ride.
Event details and schedule: Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. If, for some reason, you can’t make it, or we must cancel altogether, we will mail your goodie bag. If there is inclement weather, please check your email and the event Facebook page. We will let you know about a date change if needed, or if the event start time needs to be adjusted.
Registration the day of is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Safety briefing will be at 9:45 a.m. and KSU at 10 a.m. Come with a full tank of gas and ready to ride. • The ride will be approximately a 2-hour and 45-minute ride beginning and ending at the Coweta County Fairgrounds located on Pine Road. This is a fully escorted ride. Lunch for riders and passengers will be served upon return to the event location at approximately 12:45 p.m. This will be a special catered lunch by Life of the South Catering provided by Bigfoot Cycles.
Another new addition is our bike show! Your registration comes with one bike show entry if you choose to participate. The bike show is open to females and males. Votes are cast by donating $1 and the bike with the most votes win! We will have second and third place. Special custom event trophies will be awarded. If you have friends who would like to enter a bike, the cost is $10.
After the ride, we will have music, silent raffle items and a 50/50 raffle. •Mad Mexican will be on site for the public to purchase lunch. The event will end promptly at 4 p.m. The bike show and festivities after the ride are open to the public, so invite your friends. If you are participating in the bike show, you will want friends to come vote with dollars! • Public bike show only participants can arrive at 11:30 a.m. to get registered and set up. Registration ends at 1 p.m. and voting begins. Voting ends at 2:30 p.m.with winners announced by 3:45.

Time to relax and celebrate, right? As many Realtors say, the real work begins when you are under contract. Arguably, the most important part of being under contract as a buyer is a home inspection. It is essential to hire a knowledgeable, professional and honest home inspector. Coweta County has many good local ones. Rely on your real estate agent for recommendations, but also do your own research. Online reviews and testimonials, education background, accreditations, and experience are all important factors when selecting a home inspector. It is not a bad idea to call prospective inspectors to ask questions, discuss pricing and ask what services they provide. Most home inspectors can provide radon and air-quality (mold) testing, as well as other services such as sewer scopes. When purchasing what is likely to be your largest investment, why not spend some time and maybe some extra money on extra due diligence and services.
Any home inspector is likely to find some items of concern when inspecting something as large and complex as a house. So, what do you do as a buyer when your inspector finds something significant and concerning? Hopefully, your agent has written a due diligence period into your contract. This due diligence period allows you to negotiate with the seller for repairs or credits and a price reduction in lieu of repairs. Let’s say the inspector finds out that the water heater is actively leaking. You could negotiate with the seller to replace the water heater, at their cost, before closing. If you find something even more concerning like an active mold infestation and the seller will not address this, then the due diligence period allows you to opt out of the contract and receive your earnest money back.
Another important step of the buying process is the appraisal. If you are obtaining a loan, your lender will likely order an appraisal, or a third-party opinion of value, of the home. You want to make sure that the appraisal is completed within your appraisal contingency timeline of your contract. This protects your earnest money. If the appraisal comes in below your contract price, then you can renegotiate the sales price with the seller.
Throughout your contract, your mortgage lender, and their underwriter, will be requesting documents from you. These could be pay stubs from work, tax documents, payoffs, etc. Remember, the faster that you turn these in, the quicker your loan will be ready and the quicker you can move into your new home!

West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) is inviting prospective students and community members to get an inside look at campus life during its upcoming My Knighthawk Experience Open House event.
The open houses will take place April 16 from 5–8pm at the Carroll and Coweta campuses. The events are designed to give attendees a closer look at academic programs, campus resources, and the hands-on training opportunities available at WGTC.
Attendees will be able to tour classrooms and labs, meet instructors, learn about financial aid, and explore the wide range of academic and technical programs offered at the college. Faculty and staff will also be available to answer questions and help students take the next steps toward enrollment.
“My Knighthawk Experience is a great opportunity for students and their families to see firsthand what makes West Georgia Technical College unique,” said Tony Cardenas, VP of Student Affairs. “Whether someone is planning for college after high school, looking to change careers, or hoping to gain new skills, this event allows them to explore programs and discover pathways to high-demand careers.”
The open houses will also highlight many of the college’s hands-on training areas, including healthcare, manufacturing, skilled trades, business, and technology. Visitors can see demonstrations, learn about career pathways, and view the equipment and technology students use in training.

The Newnan-Coweta Art Association (NCAA) has selected Pammy Vaughn as its featured “Artist of the Month” for April 2026. Mrs. Vaughn’s art will be featured in the entryway to the Newnan City Hall until April 30, 2026.
Pammy Vaughn is an acrylic artist whose work explores themes of transformation, spiritual renewal and whimsy. Working primarily with heavy-bodied acrylics on canvas, she creates richly textured compositions distinguished by luminous color, depth and expressive movement. Guided by strong visual intuition and intentional layering, Pammy’s paintings embody the journey from fragmentation to wholeness. Her dynamic surfaces and bold palette reflect both resilience and grace, inviting viewers into a contemplative yet uplifting experience. Rooted in faith and a profound appreciation of life’s redemptive beauty, her work speaks to the strength found in becoming - revealing light, depth and harmony, where brokenness once lived.
Pammy Vaughn is a member of the NCAA. NCAA’s general meetings are held the third Monday of each month (from August through May) at the Harriet Alexander Art Center on Hospital Road at 6:30 pm. An art demonstration is presented each month and visitors and new members are always welcome.

Beef – Season 2 (April 16) – A pivot to an anthology format aims to give this edgy series a fresh engine, with Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan stepping into the lead roles. I’m curious to see how much of the first season’s raw volatility carries over, because what made “Beef” work wasn’t just escalation—it was recognition. That uncomfortable sense that you’ve either been one of these people or crossed paths with them. A new cast could either sharpen that idea or smooth it out. Hopefully, it’s the former.
Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85 (April 23) – This animated spinoff seeks to fill in the gap between Seasons 2 and 3, and at this point, Netflix knows exactly what it’s doing with this brand. The animated format might give it a little more room to breathe creatively, but whether it feels essential or just adjacent content is another question. If you’re still invested in the Upside Down, you’ll be here. If not, this likely won’t convert you.
Outcome (April 10) – Jonah Hill directs Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz, and Matt Bomer in what looks like a meta take on celebrity culture. Apple has leaned hard into filmmaker-driven projects, and this one feels like a bit of a swing. Those don’t always land, but they’re usually more interesting than the safer alternatives. I’ll take that risk over something overly polished and forgettable.
Margo’s Got Money Troubles (April 15) – With Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicole Kidman, and David E. Kelley involved, this checks a lot of prestige boxes. The A24 backing is what gives me pause—in a good way. That usually means something a little off-center is happening beneath the surface. The question is whether it leans into that or settles into familiar territory.
Euphoria – Season 3 (April 12) – After the long layoff, this feels like a test. This groundbreaking series made its mark with style and intensity, but that only gets you so far. At some point, it has to evolve. Fans should be interested to see whether the show deepens its characters or simply raises the volume again. Season 3 sees Zendaya continuing her role as Rue Bennett, along with other highprofile actors including Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and Hunter Schafer.
Marty Supreme (expected late April) – l Fix Rating 8/10 – Timothée Chalamet as a ping pong prodigy chasing a European tournament shouldn’t work on paper, which is part of the appeal. After failing to capture Oscar gold, Chalamet’s troublesome campaigning likely not helping his chances, viewers will need to quiet the off-screen noise and focus on this searing character piece. And the intensity, both in Chalamet’s performance and in the frantic narrative, is worth experiencing.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (April 3) – From all accounts, this second effort is exactly what you think it is: a sequel built to feed an existing audience. That’s not necessarily a knock. These films succeed or fail on execution, not originality, and the fan base is already there. If you liked the first one, you probably don’t need convincing. Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard are back in this one.
Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair (April 10) – Revivals are tricky. The instinct is always to recreate what worked, but that rarely holds up. The original series thrived on chaos and sharp writing, and if this new version can tap back into that energy—even briefly—it could justify its return. If not, it risks feeling like a reminder rather than a continuation. The good news is that the original family unit is reuniting, with Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek returning to their important positions.
Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice (now streaming) –This arrived quietly at the end of last month, which isn’t the worst thing in the current streaming environment. Not everything needs a massive rollout. Sometimes these lower-profile releases are the ones that stick, especially if word of mouth builds. Or they disappear entirely. It’s usually one or the other. With an attractive cast led by Vince Vaughn (playing multiple roles), James Marsden, and Eiza González, this action/comedy might be a suitable guilty pleasure.

The Arbor Day Foundation recently named the City of Newnan a 2025 Tree City USA in honor of Newnan’s commitment to plant, grow, and maintain trees to benefit the community.
Mayor Shepherd shared, “Trees are essential to the unique character of Newnan’s downtown and neighborhoods. Five years after the storm that took so many of them from us, we know that’s not something we can take for granted. Huge thanks to our City Arborist, Mike Furbush, his staff, and the Tree/ Park Commission for their work preserving and restoring our trees. Thanks to their help and the support of the people of Newnan, this will be our 36th consecutive year as a designated Tree City USA.”
The Abor Day Foundation is a global nonprofit with a mission to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. Its network of more than a million supporters and partners has helped the organization plant more than 50 million trees in forests and communities across more than 60 countries since 1972. The Tree City USA program has recognized cities and towns that leverage urban forestry to enhance the livability and sustainability of their local area for over 40 years.
In cities and neighborhoods, trees are proven to help mitigate the urban heat island effect, reduce stormwater runoff, improve air quality, and boost mental and physical health. When the right trees are planted in the right places, they can also reduce traffic noise, increase property values, and lower energy costs for homeowners.
To earn a Tree City USA recognition, a city must uphold four core standards including maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and participating in an Arbor Day celebration.

Volunteers removed more than 32 tons of trash and recyclables from the Chattahoochee River at the 16th Annual Sweep the Hooch cleanup on Saturday, March 21. Organized by Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CRK), Sweep the Hooch brought together nearly 1,400 volunteers at 67 parks, creeks, and river access points throughout the Chattahoochee watershed.

Newnan High School AP Physics teacher Mary Beth Martin was announced as Coweta’s 2026 Teacher of the Year March 26. Martin, a 34-year educator who has taught physics at Newnan High since 2015, was among 3 finalists and 33 Coweta educators recognized at the annual Teacher of the Year ceremony.

This year’s finalists also included Erin Gladden, who teaches REACH at Thomas Crossroads Elementary School, and Lindsay Dalton, a 6th Grade math teacher at Blake Bass Middle School.
The March 26 Teacher of the Year program - sponsored by the Coweta County Board of Education and the Pilot Club of Newnan - honored TOTYs in each of the Coweta County School System’s 33 schools. The TOTY’s Pilot Club reception and Board recognition was held in the Black Box Theatre at the Nixon Centre for Performing and Visual Arts.
Coweta County’s 2025 Teacher of the Year Ashley Linch, of Moreland Elementary School, told her fellow teachers that she wanted to be a teacher since 1st grade, when her teachers at Canongate Elementary School inspired her to think of who she could become. “You make a difference,” Linch reminded her colleagues. “To be named Teacher of the Year, that means that somewhere along the way you changed lives in a way that cannot be ignored.”
In addition to teaching Advanced Placement Physics at Newnan High, Martin is a STEM advisor and ambassador, a testing coordinator, a student support advisor and a Northrop Grumman “Scaling Up for STEM” Foundation Scholar. She holds a BS in Mathematical Physical Science from Eastern Kentucky University, and earned her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, from National-Louis University. At the 2026 Teacher of the Year ceremony, Martin thanked her fellow NHS staff members and administrators, and her husband, for supporting her as a teacher, and constantly “filling her cup” with their “unfailing support and encouragement…. You’ve allowed me to show up every day and do the job that I love to do.” “Tonight, standing here amongst such amazing colleagues, my cup isn’t full. It’s overflowing,” she said. Martin will serve as Coweta’s nominee for Georgia Teacher of the Year.

Welcome to Comer Caliente y Frio, which bills itsef as “The 1st Authentic Dominican Take-Out Restaurant Located in Newnan.” For the Spanish impaired, the name roughly translate to “eat hot or cold. Here you will try mofongo - basically a smashed up plantain seasoned with garlic and whatever else the chef wants. Meals come with mofongo or rice and beans: spanish or pigeon rice, and black or pink rice. Yes, pink rice.
We are just let our foodie partner Peyton Shelnutt, executive director of The Newnan Centre, give us the rundown:
“Comer Caliente y Frío in Newnan is an absolute gem—everything we tried was packed with flavor and beautifully done. The beef empanadas were perfectly savory, while the guava and cheese version struck the ideal balance of sweet and rich,” Peyton said. “The chicken breast mofongo was the standout — tender, flavorful, and topped with a creamy tomato sauce that brought the whole dish together. Every bite was incredible. Definitely a spot worth coming back to!”
Proteins include shrimp, baked or stewed chickn, fried pork belly, stewed beef and, of course, oxtail.
And top all that off with some flan and a homemade passionfruit or coco lime drink and you are set. A great addition to Coweta County’s dining experience.
The Senoia Optimist Club’s annual Taste of Senoia will be Sunday, April 26 from 1 to 4 pm. Spring is finally here and it was time with all the cold weather this winter. I love reading in the springtime. It is a perfect time to go to a park, sit by a lake or read a book in a garden. I love reading in gardens near gorgeous flowers and trees especially once the pollen goes away. This month I wanted to talk about books set in gardens or with a garden theme.
Where the Wildflowers Grow by Terah Shelton Harris: This is a spectacular book about healing and surviving set on a flower farm in rural Alabama. Leigh is on the run from her painful past and ends up on a beautiful flower farm. I loved watching her story being revealed. Harris’ writing is so beautiful and evocative. I really had to slow down and savor this book. It ripped my heart out.
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen: This is a lovely magical realism book set in a small town. The Waverley’s have special gifts that isolate them from the rest of their town’s residents. They have a magical garden with a magical apple tree. This is a story about family, food, magic and gardens! The writing is so good and this magical tale is woven so beautifully.
The Enchanted Greenhouse by Sarah Beth Durst: This is a cozy fantasy book set on an almost deserted magical island! Although this book is not set in the spring I loved the magical greenhouses. Our main character Terlu has broken the law by casting a spell and turning a plant into a magical being. She was turned into a statue as punishment but wakes up on this magical island. I love how the plants worked in this book. It was so fun and I really love the way this story unfolded.
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett: Of course I had to include one of my favorite childhood books! This is a classic book for a reason. Mary is a lonely child when she comes to live with her uncle on his estate on the Moors of England. Her cousin Colin is very ill and unable to play with her. She finds a hidden garden and begins restoring it to its former glory. This is a beautiful tale of renewal and second chances through the magic of gardening.
The Someday Garden by Ashley Poston: This is an honorable mention as this book will not be released until June, but I wanted to go ahead and put it on everyone’s radar because this is my favorite book of 2026. Sophie is recovering from a tragic loss when she becomes gardener for the enchanting Lilymoor House. As she is restoring the gardens she finds a magical door for a garden that should not exist. It only appears at certain times of the day. As she continues to deal with her grief she goes on a mission to discover why the garden exists and what secrets are hidden behind it. I loved the setting of this book. Lilymoor felt like an actual character. I could picture it in my head, and it was stunning. I loved Sophie and all the other people in this book. The writing was gorgeous and the story was healing. Keep an eye out for this to land on library shelves in June.
And speaking of June the Carnegie and Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation are excited to welcome Southern LitFest back to Newnan. Set for June 5-6, 2026, this edition of Southern LitFest carries the theme: Read All About It - Journalists turned Authors, Saluting the First Amendment. The goal of this fan-favorite event is to foster a love of reading and showcase the many diverse programs the Carnegie offers free to patrons of all ages yearround. Volunteers removed more than 32 tons of trash and recyclables from the Chattahoochee River at the 16th Annual Sweep the Hooch cleanup on Saturday, March 21. Organized by Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CRK), Sweep the Hooch brought together nearly 1,400 volunteers at 67 parks, creeks, and river access points throughout the Chattahoochee watershed.

As school doors close for the summer, the need for reliable meals continues for many children across our community. BTG Community Outreach is committed to ensuring that no child goes hungry by expanding its Summer Lunch Program to seven locations this year.
This program provides nutritious, ready-to-eat meals to children who may otherwise lack consistent access to food during the summer months. For many families, this support is not just helpful — it is essential.
Community support is critical to sustaining this effort. A contribution of $50 provides 10 summer lunch meals, directly impacting a child in need.
