The problem with conference calls is the feeling of boredom due to seeing the same viewpoint for long periods of time. The video calling experience needs to evolve and adapt to be flexible with workers needs, which will lead to them feeling more engaged.

The Right to Repair movement is a growing community of people around the world who think the user should have complete control over the product they purchase, and that product should be easy to repair by the user themselves. Products these days have a lot of barriers to repair or replace a part, which increases the chances of that product being thrown away even if it can be repaired, as it can be too expensive to repair the product compared to just buying a new one. Due to climate change, climate awareness, and the rising cost of living, younger generations are more likely to repair their belongings to save money as well as help the environment.

The Phaestus Toolset provides every tool a person may need to get started with using tools, in a form factor that is inviting rather than intimidating. The colours and finishing of the toolbox and the tools allow for the set to fit into any modern home, with matte finishes and a contrasting palette.

All the materials used in this product are 100% recycled or recyclable.

The sorter allows the user to use the lid of the box as a tray, where they can keep screws, nuts, bolts, etc. organized and easily accessible when using the tools. It attaches to the lid with magnets, making it easily removable if need be.

Hammer

The hammer is made from a single piece of metal, allowing for a robust build. The form of the handle allows the user to grip it positively when a high amount of force is required.

Bits and Bit holders

The tool set comes with 7 driver bits that can be used with the screwdriver. The bit holders keep the bits firmly in place, and 2 are provided so the user can add their own choice of bits to the box as well, growing their collection.

Tape Measure

A 3 meter tape measure is perfect for any work inside the house, and a locking system ensures at least one hand can be free for precisely measuring and marking.

Screwdriver

The screwdriver is made from old-fashioned acetate, it being a durable and comfortable material to grip. The tip is magnetized for interchangeable bits to be attached to the screwdriver.

Utility Knife

The utility knife has an ergonomic form, where the user has a more comfortable grip at the top and bottom of the knife. Extra blades can be stored inside the knife for easy replacement.

Toolbox

The stainless steel toolbox is highly durable and light weight. A foam organizer in the box keeps the tools in place, ensuring they are steady if the box falls on the ground.

Contains simple and effective process for a consumer to track their foods being consumed each day. To then display and organise their own calorie allowance and other important macros. This allows any user to improve their own physical healthy wellbeing in any way they choose to.

Following a diet is difficult enough, but tracking all aspects of a diet includes; Calories, Carbohydrates, Fats, Protein, and various other nutrients. A task that comes with many difficulties.

The Fryer Fly removes all difficulty in this task by being the one stop healthy diet tracking cooking appliance.

The SSG Luggage is a multi- purpose luggage case, that is designed to assist the daily office worker, in a co-working office environment. The SSG is designed to carry all the users personal devices, from large 16’ inch laptops to small hand held devices.

SSG Luggage gives the user more manoeuvrability and freedom when working.

Project Brief: Sustainable task seating device for the home, aimed towards working professionals, that can be repaired throughout the users lifetime.

Features: Universal frame allowing for a range of materials and supports to be offered, from a single wire, traditional mesh, or knitted fabric.

Parts can be easily disassembled by hand for repair/recycling.

Wire may be customised to be replaced with other materials or laced in an individual pattern.

“Frame system” is compact self-supported shelving and clothes rail system designed for minimalist spaces and frequent relocation.

* Triangular shape serves as a dynamic force of creation and flow, helping smaller spaces to feel more spacious and energised.

Portability

No disassembly is required for the relocation process. “Frame system” can be flat-packed in a few simple steps. Aluminium used for the system makes it lighter, therefore more appropriate for handling.

Design brief:

A portable fishing tackle box suitable for both amateur hobbyists and professional anglers. The tackle box can use space efficiently to store and categorise fishing gear, meeting the angler’s storage needs with just one box. It also allows users to quickly switch out bait.

The Lift Tabletop Gaming Table

Lift is a multifunctional space for avid tabletop gamers. After you’ve rushed through your work or having dinner, you can finally get to playing.

Being able to lift the tabletop, you reveal an open space where you last left off play of your favourite games, safe and sound from the outside world.

Lighting

With the rooftops under side lighting, the games you play can be made perfectly clear and captivating with its colour changing controls via a Bluetooth phone application, further immersing the players.

Storage Pods

Surrounding its perimeter are portable, modular, storage boxes that each contain selected coasters by the user. These can be arranged to fit their games and play styles, wherever they play.

A mental enrichment toy for dogs that reduces separation anxiety by challenging them with a reward system. Allowing for owners to leave their dogs home alone for extended periods of time whilst busy with work or alternatively to keep dog busy as they work from home. A customisable product that can be used in different ways allowing the best fit for every user.

The lid locks into place using a push lock system to prevent the dog from getting inside of the tray

The owner fills the food storage with treats after selecting a difficulty level using the insert and the maze pieces. They must then secure the lid and hand the product over to the dog. The dog then interacts with the product and it wobbles on the ball which moves the treat round to the feeding tray.

The maze is fully customisable to best suit the users needs. The food storage also has an insert which allows them to control the release of food.

The entire product is made of 6 different components which slot together with no permanent fixings. This allows the user a right to repair and the ability to maintain the product through cleaning.

To find out the optimal surface form, I researched extensively into user reach anthropometrics, ensuring the product caters between the 5th & 95th percentiles. In addition to this I also mapped out the different possible radius used for the extension surfaces. This helps ensure the user can work as efficiently as possible at the desk, allowing them full reach of all their working tools.

The main takeaways I took from the sketch modelling stage of this project was a 1:1 scale replication of the working surfaces, as well as the initial leg designs. Creating the surface model allowed me to observe focus group users carrying out their everyday work tasks at the desk, enabling me to look for potential pain points. The legs allowed me to contemplate possible raising mechanisms.

This desks is intended to be situated in a consumers home office room, however it could be used in a number of different environments including a traditional office. If the secondary raiser feature fails, then the product can still be used as a traditional desk, extending its useful life period. The safelock drawer allows for secure storage of the users belongings.

This product consists of 12 veneered marine plywood parts, 3 electroplated aluminium and 3 secondary components to create the body, which is held together by 69 various fixing components. The consumer can assemble the product using common every day tools, making it extremely easy for them to move between their various product placement locations.

Product

Most common kitchen hazards derive from knife accidents affected by blade bluntness and lack of surface grip. The Japanese Mandoline, supported by product weight and base grip, reduces this risk significantly whilst also providing consistent, accurate cuts.

With rising concerns about Sustainability impacts, this product was designed with the aim of utilising plastic-free alternatives. Constructed using wood from industrial side streams and biodegradable bio-polymers, SULAPAC UNIVERSAL offers a material processable using existing plastic product machinery. Tensile strength and material hardness sees a promising 30-50% increase compared to Polypropylene.

With the modern trend of minimalism in the kitchen, storage space is vital and any addition should contribute to the room aesthetic. Although bound by several components, their interior storage leaves a smooth, simple appearance on the outside.

Long life dog bed for badly behaved pups

The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns have had a significant impact on many aspects of our lives, including the behaviour of our dogs. With more people staying at home and spending more time with their pets, dogs have had to adjust to new routines and schedules. This change in routine can be stressful for dogs, and some may develop behavioural issues as a result. Separation anxiety, for example, has become more common among dogs during the pandemic, as they have become used to having their owners around all the time. This can lead to destructive behaviours such as chewing or digging, as well as excessive barking or howling. Additionally, some dogs may become more aggressive or reactive due to the increased stress and uncertainty in their environment. As lockdowns begin to lift and people return to work and other activities outside the home, it is important for owners to work with their dogs to help them readjust to their pre-pandemic routines and avoid the development of long-term behavioural issues.

Dogs are pack animals and thrive on structure and routine, which helps them feel secure and stable. Allowing dogs to jump on sofas and other furniture that is typically reserved for human use can lead to confusion about the hierarchy and authority in the home. Dogs may begin to view themselves as equal to or even higher in rank than their owners, which can result in behaviour problems such as dominance, aggression, or disobedience. This confusion can be especially problematic for younger or less experienced dogs, who are still learning the rules of the household. It is important to establish clear boundaries and rules for dogs in the home, such as designating certain areas as off-limits or teaching them basic obedience commands to reinforce the owner’s position as the leader of the pack. By maintaining a consistent and structured environment, owners can help their dogs feel secure and prevent potential behavioural issues from arising.

This bed has subsequently been made as a mechanism for assisting with this problem, whilst keeping the positive interactions of sitting with the dog on the sofa that owners are used to and that helps them deal with their own anxieties and stresses, it also encourages the owner to consistently keep one of the most basic rules for dogs, to keep off the furniture. The bed is very easily adjustable and able to be dismantled, to be used as a very soft traditional dog bed, or to be placed on the sofa height stand, which can have an endless variety of uses when not being used as a stand.

The goal of Automobild was to create a building system toy dedicated to vehicles and transportation that works to the strengths of the subject matter. It was also important to provide an engaging and interactive play experience that explores the many real-world functions of automobiles.

The base kit consists of a central chassis that contains electronic features that can activate lights in attached parts. Wheel axles connect below, while body and interior details connect around the outside. The parts provided can be disassembled for the child to build and customise using the parts from other kits. The completed model can be pushed by hand on a flat surface. A free app would be connected wirelessly to the fully assembled car that further enhances the play experience by remotely controlling a variety of visual features including lights and sounds.

Balloons are toys that children like very much, and the image of a child holding a balloon is often seen in children's drawings. it is a memory of childhood. in the design of the Balloon light, the function of making the balloon light float up and down will be added to simulate the floating of the balloon.

Design brief

The prosperity of the city makes people feel small and irrelevant. People look glamorous on the outside, but they are lonely inside. They want to be cared about, longing for warmth and hope for a better future. A lamp cannot actually bring No change, but I hope to bring some spiritual comfort to people's hearts in this lonely world.

The material will use completely recycled plastic to make the lampshade. The manufacture of other parts of the lamps and lanterns will still be produced with long-life and environmentally friendly materials. The goal of the product is to be durable, which has important implications for the mission of the design.

Ský is a sofa for 2050, consisting of three foam modules that can be used alone or pushed together and secured with a non-slip base. It has been designed using materials that are either recycled or sustainably sourced, a majority of them biodegradable. The spongy inside cocoons the user making them feel at ease, whilst the cloud like shape sparks joy and interest when viewing.

A hydroponic system made to reduce stress in millennials in their daily life as well as keep their favourite plants thriving and nourished. Plant roots must be submerged in oxygen rich nutrient. A decorative ornament in the water for aesthetics and to keep user relaxed and focused in a nature atmosphere brought into the home.

The act of inviting nature into the home generates a calming, clean atmosphere. This trend is all about going green. Nature is not accessible for everyone, especially people in the city, therefore, designing rooms to mirror the outside world is a great way to feel the rawness.

ECO-THERAPY IN A VASE

A type of therapeutic treatment which involves outdoor activities in nature. The intent to exercise your mental state and destress your mind is the goal of Lylly.

Getting distracted, being unfocused and procrastinating may be an underlying sign of mental illness. ADHD has been seen in many young people and work is big factor in making it worse. I figured that having something that is intriguing while fulfilling the user’s hobby is a great way to keep them focused while also keeping them busy in a healthy way. The colours are not too flashy and it still has the outdoor aesthetic that they didn’t want to lose, to accentuate biophilia.

“Make nature a shareholder in your design process, starting from your initial concepts. Biophilic design, carbon-neutral production processes, and designing for deconstruction will continue to shape the industry, with a focus on longevity and resale opportunities” (Browning, 2022).

“Create modular components that can be swapped out without causing damage or placed into other models once the shoe is beyond repair” (Zara, 2023).

“The re-emergence of the barefoot movement aligns with a focus on eco-conscious and health-conscious lifestyles. Design outsoles to be zero drop, and mimic the natural foot form. Prioritise flexible, durable textiles that are built for extreme environments and have minimal cushioning” (Browning, 2022).

ABOUT ERROS:

The final design is a three-in-one hiking and lifestyle shoe. The concept is driven by the need to reduce wastage in the shoe industry by combining a variety of functions into one long lasting design.

Both components combined result in an ultra-supportive and ultra-grippy hiking shoe silhouette. Worn alone, the inner shoe is designed to be zero drop, and mimic the natural foot form to align with the re-emergence of the barefoot movement Finally the out-sole component can be worn alone as a mule/slipper silhouette offering comfort and protection with a unique look

Make a product that meets the emotional needs of young people through a range of interactions. Design a simulated bionic product for use in a family.

Emotional needs

It is a normal state of affairs for people to change emotionally from moment to moment in their daily lives. When our emotional needs are met we become happy or calm. When they are not met, we become easily depressed or insecure. Loneliness is one of the most common undesirable emotions and is a state of decadence in which social interaction or relationship dissatisfaction is present. Loneliness occurs when the social interactions one expects, such as close, safe and mutually trusting relationships, are somehow deficient. Generally speaking, prolonged or severe loneliness can reduce mental health, lead to psychological problems or emotional disorders and induce certain illnesses.

The product will have an accompanying app, where the user can set up various aspects, such as the cat's personality and behaviour, to create a unique family member!

Petting

Make the product responsive to touch by allowing people to stroke it as they would a real cat, which would make a meowing or other sound in response to the touch.

Conversation

Products can have voice recognition technology that allows them to respond to verbal commands from the user. The product can also be programmed with a system that allows the simulated cat to learn and grow continuously.

Companionship Simulated cat could provide a sense of companionship for the user, especially if they live alone or have limited social interaction. The user may talk to the simulated cat, pet it, or simply enjoy its presence as a comforting presence.
