After a fine showing in the Premier Sports Cup where we missed out on qualification only in the final group game, the team went into the League One campaign in upbeat mood, but it has proved to be a disappointing start
We began with a loss at home to Queen of the South, the visitors claiming the three points with goals in either half. Fraser Fyvie did have the ball in the net, but was denied by the assistant’s flag for offside, and Ryan Harrington saw his sweetly-struck free-kick well saved by the away keeper, but overall we failed to create enough chances, and could have no complaints
It was a similar story at Ochilview last weekend. With a strong wind at their backs, Stenhousemuir made an early breakthrough, then held on for the victory Mikey Doyle headed against the post, and David Eguaibor was thwarted by home goalkeeper Jamieson who pulled off a spectacular stop, but we ran out of steam after the interval and rarely looked likely to find the leveller.
Our KDM Evolution Trophy campaign kicked-off on Tuesday night with the early return of The Spartans, who had been at Balmoral Stadium on Premier Sports Cup duty just last month. We enjoyed the better of the contest throughout, and might have gone in ahead at the interval, Arron Darge having a long-range effort tipped over and David Eguaibor being denied by the assistant’s flag after expertly guiding a header past Carswell.
Darge did fire us in front after the break, chasing down a Blair Yule pass and holding off a challenge before smashing the ball into the roof of the net. We looked set for the points, but a defensive lapse cost us, allowing Mark Stowe to steal in for a late leveller.

In conjunction with the Cove Rangers Community Foundation, we were delighted to this week unveil a new third kit which will highlight the club’s backing for a very worthwhile charity, UCAN Aberdeen.
UCAN is dedicated to raising awareness of urological cancers, improving support and quality of life for people and families who are affected by the illness, and is based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Thanks to our outstanding Principal Club Partner, KR Group, the all-red strip – which will be used exclusively during our games in the KDM Evolution Trophy – will feature the UCAN logo on the front of the players’ shirts, the space having kindly been vacated by KR Group who were keen to show their support. The KR logo will instead feature on the back, and the new tops will also display the logo of the Cove Rangers Community Foundation on the sleeve and of our recently announced Back of Shirt Partner, The Blind Mannie.
Balmoral Stadium is the ideal place for local businesses, large and small, to increase their visibility and reach out to a wider client base
