COVE RANGERS 1 - 1 QUEEN OF THE SOUTH

Late Queens Strike Denies Win at Palmerston

After beating his marker, he fired a tantalising cross low into the Queens box, though there were no takers to convert. Just moments later, O’Donnell released David Eguaibor through on goal only for Douglas to produce an inch-perfect sliding challenge to deny the forward a clear shot at goal.
Cove maintained the momentum. A clever corner routine saw McAllister find O’Donnell on the edge of the box, but a Queens defender got in the way to deflect behind for another set-piece. Shortly after, neat build-up play on the edge of the area saw Emslie test Stewart with a powerful drive that looked destined for the top corner before the Queens keeper turned it behind for a corner.
Cove Rangers were forced to settle for a 1–1 draw at Palmerston Park after a late Queen of the South equaliser cancelled out Adam Emslie’s first-half opener.
With both Layton Bisland and Mitch Megginson suspended, the manager made two changes to the starting line-up that defeated St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup the week prior. Chris Maguire started his first match for the club since arriving late last month, and David Eguaibor returned to the team to lead the line.
Despite the long trip down to the borders, the side started brightly with Adam Emslie immediately causing havoc down the leftwing.

The biggest chance of the match so far arrived on 17 minutes. Maguire released Emslie on the wing, the winger again beat Mackenzie and cut the ball back for O’Donnell, who was free just six yards out. O’Donnell’s first-time effort from close range was straight at Ross Stewart, who got his body in front to keep the scores level.
The hosts then had a period on top. Dickenson flashed a dangerous ball across the face of goal, only just out of reach for Guthrie, and moments later Charters looked set to open the scoring, only for Parker to make a vital block and allow Mutch to gather.
Cove took the lead just before half-time. A probing ball through found David Eguaibor, who spun away from Hannah and forced a save from Ross Stewart. The rebound fell kindly to EMSLIE, who kept his composure to slot the ball calmly through Douglas’ legs and into the net.
The Doonhamers started the second half with renewed intensity and Dickenson forced Mutch into action early on, but he saved comfortably as the striker curled a tame effort into the arms of Mutch. Guthrie then had a sight of goal but directed his header narrowly over from a dangerous Mackenzie delivery.
Cove continued to pose a threat going forward. McAllister climbed well to meet an Emslie delivery, but his header drifted over as the side looked to find a second goal to settle the contest.

Just after the hour mark, we were unfortunate to suffer a setback when Greg Stewart -having only just come on - picked up a serious knee injury and had to be stretchered off.
Despite the setback, Cove continued to defend resolutely and looked in control heading into the final stages. However, with two minutes remaining, Queens hit back. From a set-piece, Douglas climbed highest to send a header beyond Mutch and into the net - a dramatic equaliser that levelled proceedings at 1–1 late on, despite being on top for the majority of the match.
Cove pushed for a late winner, and Emslie once again burst down the left and drilled the ball across goal, but Ross Stewart got down well to smother before David Eguaibor could pounce in the final act of the match.
