Covenant Day communicates essential information to parents through email, text, and social media. Communication channels include:
New Lions News: New CDS families (April - July)
Lions Weekly: All-school email (Fridays)
Lower, Middle, and High School News: Email from principals (Mondays)
Anchored: Email from Head of School, Mark Helmer (Periodically)
Special Updates: Utilized for special information such as weather delays or unplanned school closings
Text messages may be sent to communicate time-sensitive information.
Follow us on Instagram @covenantday (main account) and @covenantdaylions (athletics account) and on Facebook @covenantday.
The CDS mobile app is your one-stop solution to stay updated on the school calendar, athletics schedule, and more. Plus, you can conveniently log in to LionsWeb and MyCDS through the app.
Athletics communicates with players and parents using the SportsYou platform. See page 31 for additional information.
Find the faculty/staff directory on our website. A student/family directory can be accessed by logging into the MyCDS portal. In addition, a printed family directory is mailed to all current families each fall.

There are three password-protected parent portals for accessing resources, financials, report cards, forms, etc.
MyCDS (FACTS): In the MyCDS portal, you can update your demographic information, view your student(s) grades/report cards, find a classmate in the online directory, complete medical and athletic forms, re-enroll your student(s), and more. Access the MyCDS portal from the top right of the CDS website and use your unique username and password to log in.
Magnus Health: Medical and athletic forms are in Magnus Health. All enrolled CDS students automatically have an account in Magnus Health that can be accessed through the MyCDS portal. Once in the MyCDS portal, click on “Student,” then choose “Medical,” then click “Login” to access the Magnus Health section (you will NOT need a separate password for Magnus).
LionsWeb: In LionsWeb, you can access resources and documents, including handbooks, policies, uniform guidelines, carpool maps, summer assignments, supply lists, class lists (available in August), links to report an absence online, and more. Access LionsWeb from the link at the top right of the CDS website and use the passkey (cdslions) to log in.
If you are experiencing issues with MyCDS (FACTS) or Magnus Health, please contact Jennifer Harding at jharding@covenantday.org. For questions about LionsWeb, contact communications@covenantday.org.

Families with lower school students will receive a carpool packet (in the youngest child’s classroom) at the Back-to-School Kickoff. The packet will include a map and a pink, blue, or green carpool placard. JK/K families will receive carpool placards from their teachers during the first week of school.
Drop-off: Students may be dropped off as early as 7:30 a.m.; however, most parents drop off students between 7:45 a.m. and 8:05 a.m. All lower school students are dropped off utilizing the pink carpool line adjacent to the playground and gym. JK/K students dropped off in the pink carpool line will proceed directly from the gym to their classrooms in the B building accompanied by a student helper or teacher. Parents may also choose to walk their JK/K students to their classrooms instead of dropping them off. Lower school students in grades 1-5 are dropped off at the gym and directed to one of two rotating supervised locations: the playground or the gym. Students are dismissed to their classes at 8:05 a.m. (8:40 a.m. on Wednesdays).
Pick-up: All three carpool lines (pink, blue, and green) are utilized during afternoon pick-up from 3:00 - 3:15 p.m. Follow the map and signs that coordinate with your carpool placard color; place your carpool placard in your window, and your student will be delivered to your car. If a student is not picked up by 3:15 p.m., they will be sent to Extended Day and charged accordingly.
Carpooling with Another Family: If you have a student in grades JK-5 and know of another family or families with whom you wish to carpool, please complete the carpool registration form online in the LionsWeb. If you are not carpooling with another family, you do not need to register online. If you are looking for a family to carpool with, visit the online directory in MyCDS, select your student’s grade, and sort by zip code to find families in your area. You may also post a request on the “Friends Who Love Covenant Day School” Facebook group.
There are no carpool placards for middle school. Middle school students may be dropped off no earlier than 7:30 a.m. The school day begins at 8:15 a.m. (8:50 a.m. on Wednesdays), and dismissal is at 3:10 p.m. Any middle school student not picked up or engaged in a supervised school-sponsored activity such as athletics, fine arts, etc., by 3:25 p.m. will be sent to Extended Day and charged accordingly.
There are no carpool placards for high school. High school students may be dropped off starting at 7:30 a.m., and the school day begins at 8:15 a.m. (8:50 a.m. on Wednesdays). High school students may be picked up starting at 3:15 p.m. Unless participating in a supervised activity after school, high school students should be picked up from campus by 4:00 p.m.
Covenant Day’s Extended Day Program offers JK through 8th-grade students a nurturing, Christ-centered environment after the regular school day ends. Because we understand each family has different needs, we provide flexibility in the program. Parents can register their students in one or more of our 1.5 hour session options: 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. (for JK/K only), 3:00 - 4:30 p.m., and 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. Parents can also choose how many days per week they wish to use the program and vary their usage from month to month. In addition, extracurricular classes allow students to explore their interests. Class offerings vary and information is communicated periodically as new offerings are available. To learn more or register, visit the LionsWeb.

Covenant Day partners with Flik Independent School Dining to provide various wellbalanced, nutritious, and allergy-friendly meal options for purchase daily. Students can choose hot and cold main dishes, including vegetarian and gluten-free options, vegetables, salads, a deli option, fresh fruit, and a la carte items. Breakfast and snacks are available for middle and high school students in the High School Student Commons. Flik will work with any parent concerned about their child’s dietary needs. To purchase food, students use their own declining balance, allowing parents to add funds through myschoolbucks.com. Students will provide the cashier with their unique pin number to pay for their meal. Parents can eat with their students by using the pin number of their child. Purchasing history can be obtained from myschoolbucks.com. Monthly menus are available on the LionsWeb and the CDS mobile app.
Summer camp at Covenant Day is a great way for new students of all ages to become more comfortable on campus and meet new friends! We offer various options, including Cub Camp for rising JK campers and Little Lions Camp for rising kindergarten campers. Each session is led by staff committed to nurturing students in the love of God and the formation of Christian character. Lunch care and before/after care is available. Registration typically opens in January.
Learn more and register at covenantday.org/summercamps!

• Basic Uniform: All students must wear uniform bottoms from the approved Lands’ End school list (navy or khaki) and a solid short or longsleeve polo shirt. Solid-colored sweatshirts, sweaters, and lightweight jackets are also allowed over polo shirts for additional warmth. A small manufacturer’s lapel logo is permitted. However, additional logos, graphics, etc., are not allowed.
• Chapel Dress: All students must wear navy tops: polos, sweaters, sweatshirts, and approved Lands’ End khaki uniform bottoms on chapel days.
• Friday Jeans Day: Students are allowed (not required) to wear long jeans free from rips or holes on Fridays. In addition to the normal school dress code for tops, students may wear CDS t-shirts to promote school spirit.
• Windy Gap: Students must wear clothing that is modest in length and fit. Spaghetti-strap shirts are not permitted, and girls must wear modest onepiece swimsuits for swimming.
• While high school students are not required to wear uniforms, we encourage them to strive for modesty, moderation, cleanliness, neatness, and appropriateness.
• Professional dress days include designated chapels, assemblies, special events, and other programs held in the Worship Center.
• Specific standards for high school students are available in early summer in the Parent/Student Handbook posted in LionsWeb.
In the late spring, students receive elective course descriptions and instructions for selecting two electives online. Students rank electives by preference. We work hard to place students in their first or second choice, if not both. Class schedules will be available at the Back-to-School Kickoff in August.
The English and math department chairs place students in regular or honors English and math classes based on information received during the admissions process, including ISEE scores and writing samples, grades in prior coursework, the CDS English test/writing sample, and the CDS math assessment. Students being considered for honors placement may be required to take a placement test in June. The math and English departments will provide further information in June after the end of the current school year.
Tryouts for High School Worship Band and the Auditioned Theater Class were held in April. Tryouts for the middle school musical will take place in August. Additional information will be sent in the summer New Lions News.
Your acceptance packet included a course selection form and a complete list of course descriptions. Hopefully, you have already met with one of our guidance counselors to finalize your courses. If you have not met with a guidance counselor, please contact Kim Macurda at kmacurda@ covenantday.org (freshmen and sophomores) or Heather Mills at hmills@ covenantday.org (juniors and seniors).

Middle and high school students travel to Windy Gap in August to kick off the new school year! In addition to teachers and staff, parents have the opportunity to volunteer. Because Windy Gap is such a fun trip, we often have a waiting list of parents who want to participate. Since you are a new family, we want to make you aware of this great opportunity to serve, fellowship with our faculty, and get to know our students!
The 2026-2027 school year trip dates are Monday, August 17 - Wednesday, August 19 for high school and Wednesday, August 19 - Friday, August 21 for middle school. For more information or to add your name to the list of potential volunteers, contact Middle School Teacher and Windy Gap Coordinator Jane Burns at jburns@covenantday.org or High School Teacher and Windy Gap Coordinator Brian Jameson at bjameson@covenantday.org.

School supply lists are available on LionsWeb in early June. Lower school parents can order most school supplies as a complete package. See the New Lions News for the link to order. The package is not a requirement and is provided only for your convenience. You can choose to have the package delivered to the school for free or to your home and pay for shipping. If you opt to have your student’s supplies delivered to the school, they will be placed in your student’s classroom before the first day of school in August. For free shipping to the school, order by June 16. You may still order after June 16 and pay shipping to your home until August 28. All orders must be placed by August 28.
Supply lists for each grade are available on LionsWeb in early June. Typical supplies include binders, notebooks, and locker shelves. The school provides a planner for all middle school students.
High school students receive supply lists (if any) from each individual teacher at the beginning of the year. Most students purchase a spiral notebook or three-ring binder for each class, a locker shelf, pens, pencils, and highlighters. The school provides a planner for each new student.
In early June, summer assignments for lower, middle, and high school are available on the LionsWeb. High school English, math, some world languages, and some AP courses have required summer assignments.
High school students are required to purchase a laptop for use both on and off campus. In early summer, updated technology policies and guidelines are available on LionsWeb.
• Windows 11 or current Mac Operating Systems
• All Windows updates and patches must be installed and running
• Wireless Network Card – must be 802.11n and able to connect to a 5 Ghz network
• Integrated camera, speakers, microphone, and a headphone jack
• It is strongly recommended that the laptop have a standard USB port (or a USB adapter) for software or driver installation
• Chromebooks or Apple based tablets (iPad, Surface, etc.) will not run necessary school applications and are not acceptable for school use
The Technology Department will help manage CDS network issues for all laptops. This includes initial network connectivity while on campus, installation of student printers in the high school building, and assistance in accessing and activating CDS-provided software. We will filter internet access for all students on campus and connected to the CDS student wireless network. The student is responsible for securing their data by backup or cloud storage.
High school students are required to purchase a laptop for use both on and off campus. In early summer, updated technology policies and guidelines are available on LionsWeb.
Middle school faculty use technology intentionally and purposefully. Students have access to Chromebooks, and technology policies and guidelines are available on LionsWeb starting in early summer.

Lower school students arriving after 8:15 a.m. (8:50 a.m. on Wednesdays) or after the teachers have left the curbside drop-off area must be accompanied to the lower school office in their building and signed in by a parent. The receptionist will provide a tardy slip for the student to take to his or her classroom. Parents can say their goodbyes in the lobby and students may walk back to the classrooms to join their class. If a student needs to leave early for an appointment or illness, a parent must sign them out with the receptionist in their respective school office.
Middle school students arriving after 8:15 a.m. (8:50 a.m. on Wednesdays) must report to the middle school office for a tardy slip before reporting to class. Middle school students must have their parent/guardian come to the front office to sign their student in or out if arriving late or leaving early.
High school students arriving after 8:15 a.m. (8:50 a.m. on Wednesdays) must report to the high school office to sign in before going to class. Please refer to the Parent/Student Handbook on LionsWeb for more information about student sign-in or sign-out and all attendance policies.
Lower and Middle School: Please complete the online absence form found on the CDS app, LionsWeb, or via the links below, and email your student’s teachers directly to arrange for missed work.
Lower School covenantday.org/lsabsence Middle School covenantday.org/msabsence
High School: Please send an email from your parent email address listed in FACTS to hsattendance@covenantday.org with your student’s name, date of absence, time of arrival/dismissal (if applicable), and reason for absence.
Covenant Day’s health policies and procedures are available in LionsWeb under the “Medical” tab and are also linked in Magnus Health. These policies include guidelines for returning to school after fever, vomiting/ diarrhea, and bacterial infections such as strep. Please review and sign off on these policies in Magnus Health before the school year begins.
If your child will need or may need any medication (over-the-counter or prescription) during the school year, please complete the Medication Authorization Form in Magnus Health. The pertinent Action Plan/Care Plan must also be completed for students with asthma, food allergies, insect allergies, seizures, diabetes, or other chronic medical conditions. Both of these forms must be signed by a physician. A Student Agreement for SelfCarried Medication form is required for middle and high school students who want to carry emergency medications.
All required medical forms are available in the MyCDS portal under Student/Medical. Certain forms must be signed by a physician and a parent and uploaded to Magnus Health in MyCDS. Prescription medications should be given to the respective school office. All health concerns should be addressed with the school nurses: Shannon McCrory (Middle/High School) at smccrory@covenantday.org or Sara Narveson (Lower School) at snarveson@covenantday.org.
Athletic Director Mike Freace mfreace@covenantday.org
Assistant Athletic Director Michael Laney mlaney@covenantday.org
Assistant Athletic Director Aja Teich ateich@covenantday.org
Athletic Coordinator Rebecca Seibert rseibert@covenantday.org
Athletic Operations Daniel Blaze dblaze@covenantday.org
For summer workouts and fall sports information, see pages 26-34. If you have interest in a winter or spring sport, contact Aja Teich.
Over the summer, CDS students can take advantage of summer workout opportunities to prepare for the 2026-2027 school year. Two athletic forms must be provided to the athletic department BEFORE participating in a summer workout. The forms can be found on LionsWeb.
• A NCISAA Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation: Pages 1 and 2 must be completed, dated, and signed by a parent. Pages 3 and 4 must be completed, dated, and signed by a doctor.
• Novant Permission to Treat – must be completed, signed, and dated by the student and parent.
Forms must be emailed to Athletic Trainer Blair Anderes at banderes@ novanthealth.org BEFORE the first day of participation.
For more information about CDS summer workout opportunities, please join the SportsYou page of the sport you are interested in or contact Rebecca Seibert at rseibert@covenantday.org.

All athletes must have a current (within the last year) physical on file using the NCISAA Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation form. Parents must also complete the Athletic Handbook acknowledgment, Athletic Parental Permission, NCISAA Consent to Participate and Release, Novant HealthPermission to Treat, and NCISAA Athletic Concussion forms.
• All paperwork must be completed via Magnus, accessible through the MyCDS Portal under Student/Medical.
• You will receive an email in late June when the 2026-2027 forms are available to update.
• Please complete and upload all Magnus forms by Thursday, July 23, so we can review them and clear your athlete to participate. Forms uploaded at the last minute will prevent your athlete from participating in tryouts and practice.
Questions about paperwork should be directed to Athletic Trainer Blair Anderes at banderes@novanthealth.org.
Due to our conference guidelines, 6th-grade students are eligible to participate in fall tryouts for cut and non-cut sports in the following scenarios:
Field Hockey, Boys Soccer, Girls Tennis, and Volleyball (cut sports)
• Provided there are not enough 7th and 8th graders to complete a primary roster, 6th graders can try out. If there is overwhelming interest from 7th and 8th graders and a second team is needed, 6th graders can try out to complete the roster.
Football (non-cut sport)
• As a non-cut sport, 6th graders can participate in football; however, they will only be allowed to participate in the “5th quarter” of games with coach approval.
Cross Country (non-cut sport)
• As a non-cut sport, 6th graders can participate in cross country; however, they will only be allowed to participate in non-conference meets.
In any scenario above, 6th graders will try out against other 6th graders. 6th graders will NOT make a team over a 7th or 8th grader. Our conference prioritizes 7th and 8th-grade participation; however, the athletic department would rather file for hardship to supplement the primary roster with 6th graders than eliminate teams with insufficient numbers.
A shuttle bus to Warner Park is available for students needing transportation on regular school days. The shuttle will pick up athletes in the crosswalk area of Covenant Church Lane immediately after school. The first shuttle departs at 3:25 p.m., and the final shuttle departs at 3:40 p.m. This is a drop-off service only. Parents are responsible for picking up their athlete(s) at Warner Park after practices and games.
Students and parents must complete the following two steps to express their interest in fall sports and receive communication from the coach. Please note that some teams will have tryouts. Completing the following steps does NOT guarantee a spot on the roster.
• Every student MUST indicate their interest in signing up for one (or more) fall sports by completing the Google Form link found in LionsWeb using the Athletics link. If the athlete is interested in multiple sports, complete this form for EACH SPORT.
• All sports teams will utilize the SportsYou platform for all team-related communications, including logistics and details surrounding tryouts.
The Athletics and Fine Arts Departments desire students to participate in their choice of extracurricular activities. Participation on a sports team and in a Fine Arts production during the same season is difficult and, in most circumstances, is not possible. If you have questions about fall sports, contact Aja Teich at ateich@covenantday.org.

Parents of Middle & High School Athletes
The SportsYou platform is the primary communication tool for CDS athletics, coaches, parents, and athletes. To receive communications regarding tryouts and updates throughout the season, all parents must create a free SportsYou account. When creating an account, please select Family as your role and enter your child’s name. Once you have created an account, use the codes below to access the team(s) that interest your student.
Middle School Athletes do not need to create an account since coaches only communicate with MS parents using this communication platform.
High School Athletes MUST create an account separate from their parent’s account as high school coaches will communicate with both players and parents using this platform.

Whether through time, talents, or treasure, we are committed to fostering a vibrant culture of giving and community engagement. Your generosity enhances every aspect of our school beyond basic budgetary needs to strengthen programs and facilities that directly support our mission. Giving comes in many forms, and there are numerous ways to support Covenant Day, each making a meaningful impact. If you want to learn more about any of the items outlined below, please contact development@ covenantday.org. We’d love to connect with you!
The Lions Fund (an annual fund) allows the entire CDS community to participate in our mission as we seek to transform hearts and minds for the glory of Jesus Christ. Gifts to the Lions Fund directly support our students, faculty, and staff by uniting our needs through a strategic framework and fostering excellence, mentorship, partnership, discipleship, and service.
Giving Day is an exciting 24 hours of giving to the Lions Fund. Every gift makes an impact, no matter the size.
The Business Partner Program is designed to engage local businesses in advancing the mission and vision of Covenant Day School. We are fortunate to have many outside businesses and CDS families support us through this program. These businesses receive visibility throughout the school year via various campus and communication platforms. Gifts given by these donors support the Lions Fund and create purposeful partnerships with local businesses.
The Forever Covenant campaign reflects our continued commitment to Christ-centered excellence while building a legacy that will impact generations to come. A key part of this vision is Warner Park, a vibrant space designed to bring our community together, provide our studentathletes with a place to grow and compete at a high level, and offer much-needed shelter during storms in an area currently without a building nearby.
As the campaign continues to gain momentum, we would love the opportunity to meet with you, share more about the vision, and answer your questions. To schedule a meeting, please reach out to development@covenantday.org or learn more by visiting covenantday.org/ forevercovenant.org.
