THINK INSIDE THE BOX

When Covenant Day School students heard about the conditions on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, they knew they had to do something. After visiting the reservation, their hearts were moved and they learned of the need for emergency housing for youth who had nowhere else to go.

After returning from the reservation, a team of students rolled up their sleeves and got to work on transforming a cold, dingy shipping container into a vibrant, dormitory space to provide a refuge for three teens on the reservation. Students gained valuable hands-on experience in planning, drafting, building, networking, and marketing. Yet they received an even greater blessing on their lives when they delivered the first container to Pine Ridge Reservation in December 2015.

After seeing how students in Matthews, N.C. could make an impact on teens hundreds of miles away, the ContainIt team knew that they couldn’t stop there.

Their vision is to ultimately provide housing for more than 30 youth on the reservation.
