Ex AUTUMN BLITZ
Private Connie Valin, 4 Wing Imaging
Corporal Julie Moss with 401 Tactical Fighter Squadron marshals a Royal Canadian Air Force CF-188 Hornet during the exercise AUTUMN BLITZ on October 21, 2020, at 4 Wing Cold Lake. 4 WING Exercise AUTUMN BLITZ was a new initiative here at 4 Wing. The local exercise was conducted over a continuous two-week period starting October 14 and wrapping up on October 28. The exercise involved the combined efforts of all units at the wing to conduct and support the increase in
flying operations. The objectives of Ex AUTUMN BLITZ were to assess the Wing’s ability to sustain a high operational flying tempo for 14 days, identify the strengths and issues associated with high pace operations, and cooperatively develop new solutions. To evaluate all aspects of 4 Wing’s flying operation, it was important that all units at 4 Wing
participated in the exercise. The success of our mission at 4 Wing is dependent on every unit – everyone contributes to putting combat ready jets in the air. For that reason, Ex AUTUMN BLITZ included 14 continuous days of participation by more than the flying units. Administration, finance, supply, refueling, engineering, all levels of maintenance, and many more sections
were fully resourced and supporting the exercise. It was all hands on deck! Many lessons were learned and relationships amongst different units were strengthened – definitely a highlight of the exercise! The Wing is planning to conduct a similar exercise again in the winter months in an effort to continue improving our capabilities and efficiency.
