Disc Golf Tourney & New MTB Trail Preview at Soldier Mountain
Soldier Mountain's first summer season ended Sept. 12, but the resort will open its mountain bike park and conduct its second disc golf tournament ever at a oneday closing celebration Oct. 2. At least $500 in cash and prizes are up for grabs in the disc golf tourney, riders can sample Soldier Mountain's brand-new fifth mountain bike trail, and the event features live music. The tournament's disc golf course will be temporary like the one for its inaugural tournament a few weeks ago. However, the resort anticipates establishing a permanent course next summer that will be accessible on days its mountain bike park is open. GM Paul Alden said disc golfers will appreciate Soldier Mountain's course design. "This is not your typical walk on a traditional, flat disc-golf course," he said. "This is a different kind of course. It's a lot of fun and there is some great scenery to enjoy while playing a round of disc golf on our ski hill." Register at www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/Soldier_Mountain_Tournament_2021 or visit soldiermountain.com and click on the registration link. Disc golfers also can register in person at the resort the day of the event. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the tournament begins at 11 a.m. Registration costs $30, and the player's pack includes lunch, a lift ticket, and three tickets for the challenge hole. The event features two rounds of nine holes, with the first slated from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the second from 3-5 p.m. Challenge hole attempts and the awards ceremony are scheduled for 5-6 p.m., with live music following from 6-10 p.m. The tournament has three mixed divisions (each includes males and females): amateur mixed age 18 and under, amateur mixed 18 older, and pro mixed 18 and up. The resort will award prizes to the top three players in each division, with the first-place disc golfers earning a four-day punch pass to Soldier Mountain plus cash. Second-place participants will earn a one-day punch pass plus cash, and third-place disc golfers will win a T-shirt plus cash. Participants can redeem the three tickets in their player's packs for three chances to shoot a hole in one on the challenge hole. Those who succeed will earn a one-day lift ticket for skiing or mountain biking. The resort's mountain bike park will be open during the Oct. 2 closing celebration from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., allowing riders to preview the new trail. Bike park tickets cost $29 for adults and $24 for youth ages 9-17. Seniors ages 70 and older and active military personnel and veterans receive a $10 discount with valid ID. Singer-songwriter Clifton Hunt, a.k.a. Cliftonite Acoustics, will take the stage at 6 p.m., followed see page 5.....by The Moon Pies, purveyors of "rockabilly, swing, classic up-beat country/rock oldies, and happy punk," at 8 p.m.
