New Magistrate Judge in Lincoln County Area Fire Updates

"The greatest attribute of a judge, especially a magistrate judge, is compassion." Retired Magistrate Judge, Mark Ingram. On Friday, September 9th, judges from the Fifth Judicial District gather in the upstairs courtroom of the Lincoln County Courthouse to witness the swearing in of Brendan L. Ash as the county's new magistrate judge. Mr. Ash, 34, has been practicing law for just 8 years. After graduating from the University of Idaho with his Juris Doctorate in 2014, he started his own law practice in Gooding. A couple of years later he went to work for the Gooding County Prosecutor's Office, then moved on to be the Assistant Public Defender for Gooding County. During its interview process, the Fifth Judicial District Magistrates Commission noted Mr. Ash's dedication to serving with dignity, courage and integrity. At the Oath of Office Ceremony, retired Magistrate Judge Mark Ingram gave the young judge words of wisdom. "Being a judge is easier in many respects than being an attorney. You are not in an adversarial debate with other attorneys, and the phone is not glued to your ear. But, it can be heartbreaking. Have compassion on everyone who walks through those doors, and it will be the most rewarding thing you have ever done." The Magistrates Commission Chairman, Honorable Eric J. Wildman, administered the Oath of Office (above) and said Mr. Ash will be a great addition to Lincoln County and the entire Judiciary. Mr. Ash thanked the commission for the appointment and gave a special thank you to his wife, Brandi, for supporting him through law school. He also thanked attorneys Craig Hobdey and Joseph James for giving him the opportunity to learn and grow as a lawyer and a friend.
