College of Southern Idaho student Shawna Waasdorp thought she was stopping by Zions Bank on Tuesday for some routine business. Instead, she was surprised with a backpack stuffed with $1,000 in cash by Branch Service Manager Sharon Seifert after being selected as one of three winners of Zions Bank's Student Banking Sweepstakes. Waasdorp's name was drawn from a pool of more than 2,000 entries. Qualified entrants were ages 15 to 25 who participated in the sweepstakes by opening a Zions Bank Anytime Checking account, Young Savers account or Visa credit card, or by mailing in an entry between May 10, 2021, and July 2, 2021. Waasdorp said the prize money will help her pay off her auto loan and continue her education at CSI. "We know teens and young adults face unique financial challenges," Seifert said. "We hope this money will help Shawna as she pursues her dreams and begins to build her financial future."
USDA Offers Disaster Assistance to Idaho Ag Producers
Idaho agricultural operations have been significantly impacted by the ongoing, severe drought. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has technical and financial assistance available to help farmers and livestock producers recover. As agricultural producers move into recovery mode and assess damages, they should contact their local USDA Service Center to report losses and learn more about program options available to assist in their recovery from crop, land, infrastructure and livestock losses and damages. “Unfortunately, conditions continue to deteriorate across Idaho with every county experiencing drought conditions,” said Gloria Montaño Greene as Deputy Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC). “USDA can step in with disaster assistance programs designed to alleviate some of the financial impact experienced by agricultural producers suffering drought losses.” USDA Disaster Assistance for Drought Recovery Producers who experience livestock deaths and feed losses due to natural disasters may be eligible for the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP). This program also provides eligible producers with compensation for expenses associated with transporting water to livestock physically located in a county that is designated as level “D3 Drought - Extreme” according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. For ELAP, producers see page 5..... will need to file a notice of livestock loss within 30 days and honeybee losses within 15 days of the continued on page 2 & 3... loss becoming apparent.
