Idaho Must Cut Ties with the American Library Association
Opinion-Editorial
The Idaho Freedom Caucus calls upon the Idaho Commission for Libraries to end its membership and cut all ties with the Marxist-led American Library Association (ALA). We call on local public and school libraries to do the same.

We have significant concerns about the election of Emily Drabinski, a self-described "Marxist lesbian," as the next president of the ALA. Her election raises issues about libraries' involvement in exposing children to explicit materials and injecting hard-left politics and sexuality into publicly funded libraries. With her election, have concerns about libraries' adherence to their educational purpose and their responsible use of taxpayer funds.
Drabinski has said in interviews that librarians aren't focused on assisting minors in accessing pornography, but her writings and public presentations reveal that she has dedicated her professional career to precisely that while using taxpayer resources. Drabinski proposed using "queer theory" to guide the way books are cataloged in libraries. Her expertise in "queer theory" aligns with the Marxist's objective, seeking to undermine the West by eradicating the traditional family, natural sexual relationships, distinctions between sexes, and the orderly structures that accompany them.
Drabinski's politically exclusionary statements and desire to wage war against those who disagree with her further highlight her divisive approach. It's clear Drabinski intends to use her power as President of the ALA to promote deviance and the sexualization of children.
Activists have burrowed their way into the ALA, bending the organization to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice instead of serving an educational purpose and upholding American ideals. Their strategic plan integrates these principles into the organization's mission, impacting Idaho libraries and attracting federal funding for DEI initiatives. The organizationwide commitment to leftist ideology has been further entrenched through the current President's commitment to Marxism.

The ALA has provided LGBT resources and pressured libraries to include explicit materials on transgenderism and sexual deviance targeting young children. They defend the presence of sexually explicit books in school and public libraries, including titles like Gender Queer and All Boys Aren't Blue. Some of these books are available in the Idaho Commission for Libraries IDEA database and public school libraries. This dissemination of explicit material with a far-left agenda has reached libraries throughout Idaho. These books are explicit catechetical tools for teaching gender ideology, a sectarian, psychologically manipulative, and destructive poison for innocent children.
ALA's role in corrupting libraries and exposing children to a pernicious ideology can no longer be ignored. We have a duty to uphold the ideals of Liberty embedded in our Idaho Constitution and to protect children. For these reasons, we urge the Idaho Commission for Libraries and all public and school libraries to withdraw from the ALA immediately. from Maria Nate - Idaho Director State Freedom Caucus Network

From a young age, Lucus exhibited a natural curiosity and a zest for life that would shape his journey and touch the lives of those around him. He attended Hagerman High School, where he made lasting friendships. Lucus was a stranger to no one. Lucus' life was filled with joy, and he found it in various activities and relationships. Sports were not just a hobby for him. They were a source of exhilaration and fulfillment. Whether he was playing football on a sunny day or wrestling with his friends, the thrill of competition brought him immense joy. Video games were another avenue through which Lucus found delight. The virtual worlds he explored and the challenges he conquered provided him with a sense of accomplishment and adventure. But it wasn't just solitary pursuits that brought Lucus happiness. He cherished the moments spent with his friends and family, relishing in their laughter, support, and shared experiences. Whether it was a lively gathering, a heartfelt conversation, or simply enjoying each other's company, being surrounded by loved ones filled his heart with pure joy. Lucus' life was a testament to finding happiness in the simple pleasures of life, whether it be through sports, video games, or the cherished bonds he shared with his family and friends.

Lucus' life changed October 19, 2021 when he became a proud father to Ryder Jon Tye Freeman. Lucus loved spending every second with his son. The proudest father anyone had ever seen.
Lucus will be remembered as a loving father, son, brother, loyal friend, and a compassionate soul. His gentle nature, infectious laughter, and genuine kindness touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his family and friends.

William Neal Brailsford
William "Bill" Neal Brailsford, died Friday afternoon, July 7, 2023 at his home. He was 82.
Bill was raised in Hagerman, Idaho. After graduating from Hagerman High School, Bill attended college at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in California, earning a degree in animal husbandry. During college, he rodeoed, got his pilot's license and still graduated with honors. Bill considered becoming a veterinarian but instead returned home to the ranch in Hagerman where he raised sheep and cattle with his father – William S. Brailsford (Bill Sr.) as Flying Triangle, Inc.
Bill was a stern, tough manager, who demanded excellence from everyone, including himself. His desire for perfection was reflected in the beautiful bridle reins, chaps and tack he created after he sold the sheep portion of Flying Triangle in 2007. Bill was always a solitary man, content to be alone with his work. If you caught him on a talkative day, however, he told wonderful stories about his family history.

As a boy, Claude attended Orchard Valley Country School and graduated from Wendell High School in 1956. He then attended Idaho State University, majoring in forestry and worked for the Sawtooth National Forest a short time.
In 1960 Claude joined the army and trained in Fort Sill, OK before going overseas and becoming a radar specialist. While stationed in Hornsfelt, Germany, Claude was badly injured in an automobile accident. After being in a coma for 10 days, he was flown to Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco, CA in a full body cast with head injuries. Claude remained in the hospital for 6 months before being honorably discharged in 1963. That summer he began working on the Fairfield County Road crew and spending the weekends with his parents in Tuttle, ID. On those weekend visits he met Phyllis Lehmann in Wendell and they became husband and wife on June 29, 1964. He committed his life to Christ under the preaching of Reverend Jim Davis at Hagerman Christian Center where he was baptized in 2001, the same year Jim retired. They have since been attending Filer Community Church.
Claude was an excellent hunter and avid outdoorsman. He rarely returned from a hunt empty handed and had many trophy mounts to prove it.
