Naturopathic Healthcare In 2005, Idaho became the 15th state to create a licensure program for naturopathic physicians. The law, which provides for qualifications, fees and penalties, and a Board of Naturopathic Medical Examiners, has faced many difficulties. Aside from the opposition from “sciencebased” medical providers, there has been an internal conflict between those who are happy with the law as it is and those who want more stringent requirements. Naturopathic Medicine includes diagnoses, treatment, and care of patients using a system of physiological, psychological, mechanical methods (air, water, light, heat), as well as food and natural medicines to treat various medical conditions. Naturopathic Medicine is generally less expensive and pre-emptive (tries to prevent a problem before it becomes a problem). Because of this, there is a push to have naturopathic physicians recognized as “primary care providers” under the Affordable Care Act. Those who want more continued on page 6.....
