Share Your Heart at Camp Rainbow Gold

For 19 years, Camp Rainbow Gold has hosted a single, extravagant fundraising event to celebrate families, doctors, nurses, volunteers and friends who stand alongside and lift up Idaho’s children diagnosed with cancer. In lieu of a traditional gala this year, Camp Rainbow Gold is creating a new way to Share Your Heart for Idaho’s children. The Share Your Heart celebration on Saturday, June 26 will be an open-house format, welcoming guests any time from 1 to 6 p.m. Be the first to tour Camp’s new property, Hidden Paradise in Fairfield, Idaho. Enjoy light food and beverages, and music – and commemorate this incredible Camp Rainbow Gold milestone. Guests can also personally add life, fun, and COLOR to a new Field of Love art installation at the property. Donations made to “Buy a Heart” will host heart-shaped artwork pieced together to create an incredible, colorful installation that will welcome campers to Hidden Paradise in July and show them how much they are loved. Help Camp Rainbow Gold reach their goal of 2,000 hearts before camp starts! The majority of the event will be hosted outdoors, guests are advised to dress accordingly and wear close-toed, comfortable walking shoes. As a medical organization, the event will still be practicing social distancing and limiting capacity on indoor portions of the tour. Masks will be required indoors. Camp Rainbow Gold CEO/Executive Director Elizabeth Lizberg shared, “Despite the circumstances of this past year, Camp Rainbow Gold is committed to its mission. We have found strength and light in our entire community and are dedicated to forging ahead to create unforgettable programs for our campers in 2021. Generosity and the power of togetherness are shining brighter than ever.” RSVPs are required to attend. Please RSVP with your name and the number of guests in your party by June 24 to info@camprainbowgold.org or by calling 208-350-6435. Learn more at www.shareyourheart.org. If you are not able to attend, please consider making a donation to support and celebrate the Camp Rainbow Gold campers and volunteers in their first summer at Hidden Paradise!

The Dark Side of White Top

by the Camas Bug Crew White usually denotes virtue and goodness, but in the case of noxious weeds a good share of our weeds have white blossoms. White Top is no exception; one can see the weed all over the Camas Prairie boldly rise up above the native foliage, trying desperately to out-compete the other vegetation. In our area it seems to seek out waterways and anywhere that has nearby standing water. This is probably due to its aggressive root growth tendencies. White-top is perennial mustard that reproduces both vegetatively and by seed. This deep- rooted, creeping plant can grow 90 cm tall and invade crops, riparian areas, and rangelands. After its introduction into North America from Eurasia in the late 19th century, white-top has spread aggressively and is now labeled as “noxious” in at least 24 states. Leaves are grayish-green, lanceshaped, clasping, and up to 10 cm long. Flowers are white 0.5 across and bloom from April to May. The conspicuous dense flower clusters flat topped early in the season, but this characteristic disappears as the stem enlongates. cont. page 2...
