3D Printing at Richfield Library

The Richfield District Library is taking the lead in bringing technology and training to Idaho communities. The library director, Clay Ritter, is also the director at the Shoshone Public Library. Clay has participated in two “Make It” trainings provided by the Idaho Commission for Libraries on behalf of the libraries and is bringing the skills he learned to library patrons in Richfield and Shoshone. By appointment, Clay helps patrons of all ages learn to use the 3D printer at either library. “I printed a dirt bike,” said 10 year old Dominic Gross with wide eyes. Other patrons have printed cell phone cases, guitar picks, a camera lens hood and keychains. The 3D printer is available for patrons

to print out objects they have created or downloaded from “Thingiverse” on a first come, first serve basis. Patrons of the library also have the opportunity to participate in “Summer of Code,” a program powered by the Khan Academy and funded by the J.A. and

Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation. Each Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. students in grades 2-12 can learn an introduction to coding via Khan Academy’s “Intro to JavaScript” course at the Richfield Library District. No RSVP is required.
