The Return of Outlaw Day in Richfield
This Friday, the 65th Annual Outlaw Day in Richfield will get thing started with Bull Riding next to the Little Wood Saloon. Open to high school and above, entries will be taken at 5:00 p.m. with the rides beginning at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday moning (June 12th), Richfield Youth Athletics will be serving pancakes, sausage and eggs from 7 to 9 a.m. From 9 to 9:30 sign-up for the parade will be at the city park. Parade will roll at 10:00 a.m. Rodeo fun kicks-off at 12 noon at the arena with kids events: calf riding, pig catch, stick horse barrel race, and more. Adult events include wild cow milking, rescue race, bull riding, barrel racing, and the Richfield Alumni Team Roping. Saturday afternoon, get ready for some dirty fun at the arena with Mud Bog Races. Registration is from noon to 3 p.m. and the races begin at 4:00. With ten different classes, there is opportunity for everyone to test their mud driving skills. Downtown Richfield will have live music both Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as a Street Dance. If you work up an appitite, be sure to grab something at the Bullz-Eye BBQ food truck. And... if you endulge too much liquid refreshment, take advantage of the free courtesy van.
Magic Valley Dairy Days
Beginning this Thursday, June 10th, Wendell will be filled with crafts, food, carnival, and live music with Magic Valley Dairy Days. Music in the park will feature EllieMae Mellenkamp (Thursday), Gary & Cindy Braun (Friday), and Billy Braun (Saturday). Other entertainment will include performances by the Uptown Dance Studio and the Wendell Drama Club at the city park on Saturday after the parade. The Wendell Senior Center will serve breakfast from 7:30 to 10 Saturday morning, followed by the Dairy Days Parade at 10:30. This year's Parade Grand Marshal is Carol Case who is retiring this year from nearly 30 years at the Wendell School District. The Wendell Chamber of Commerce "is proud of everything you represent in your community, and we are proud to honor you this year." The Wendell Chamber of Commerce is also proud to announce $63,000 in scholarships were presented to area students for 2021. see page 5..... Wrinkly Bits at the Gooding Library This Saturday, June 12th, author Gail Cushman will be at the Gooding Public Library to sign copies of her new book: Out of time, Wrinkly Bits Book Two. Gail writes for an audience of a certain age. As an educator, mother, wife and Marine officer, she puts her lifetime of people-watching to good use by telling stories about what she knows best - humorous stories that make you smile. Gail is a former Gooding resident (HS teacher, from 19821996) and her late husband Tom was the magistrate during those years. She has written seven novels including a series of books entitled Wrinkly Bits about people of a certain age... 60 years plus with love and companionship interests. Her first book in this series - Cruise Time has consitantly received Five Star reviews on Amazon. Three WWII veterans go on a cruise together with their wives; a retired farmer, dentist, and teacher gather for a reunion and find a bit of adventure away from home. In her second book - Out of Time - a retired podiatrist is smitten by a woman on a cruise. Like a love-struck puppy, he follows her home. But her marriage vows still reign supreme even though she's been lonely and isolated for decades. The husband is a good man, and she loves him, but the spark went out of their marriage long ago. Realizing she has fallen deeply in love with Logan, she finds herself wondering if there is a chance for a better life, even this late in her game. Gail will be at the Gooding Library (306 5th Avenue West) from 1 to 3 p.m. to sign books, and to tell you more about her books.

Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, the family has waited until now to have a memorial service. Services will be held at Demaray's Gooding Chapel on Saturday, June 12th, at 11:00 a.m. A joint graveside inurnment with military honors for Gordon will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding.

Soldier Mountain Showdown 3-D Archery Shoot
Soldier Mountain is hosting the 5th annual Rock Creek Archers Soldier Mountain Showdown June 12 & 13. The 3-D archery shoot features 42 Rinehart targets, considered among the best archery targets in the world, and rangefinders are allowed. Registration opens Friday June 11 from 5-7 p.m. and on Saturday June 12 at 7:30 a.m. The ski lift starts turning at 8 a.m. June 12-13, with archers riding to the top of the mountain and working their way downhill. The last chairlift ride up each day for archers is at 2 p.m. Registration for adults 18 and older is $20 for one day, $40 for both days, and $50 for the buckle class. Costs for young adults ages 15-17 are $20 for one day, $35 for both days, and $45 for the buckle class. Registration for youths age 12-14 is $10 for once day, $20 for both days, and $30 for the buckle class. Cubs ages 7-11 cost $5 to register for one day and $7 for two days, and chicks ages 6 and under are free; neither age group is eligible for the buckle class. Lift tickets are extra and cost $5 for one day, $7 for two days, and $7 for the buckle class, although members can ride the lift for free. Registration for the championship purse costs an extra $50, with the top shooters proceeding to a shoot off on Sunday. Archers entering the championship purse must also purchase regular, two-day registration fees. Rock Creek Archers will present awards for multiple classes both days and host a novelty shoot and smoker round on Saturday night. Aaron Golay will perform live music on the patio Saturday evening, and Soldier Mountain's restaurant and bar will be open both days. Soldier Mountain will also open its mountain bike park on those dates. Its summer operating hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Sandra Belew Christensen
Sandra Belew Christensen of Meridian, Idaho, formerly of Gooding, Idaho, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021 with two of her daughters, Wendy and Courtney, at her side. She was born July 14, 1942 in Galveston, Texas to James Carter and Evelyn Townsend Belew. Sandra was married to Brian Barber and from that union Tammy, Leslie and Rebecca were born. In 1972 Sandra and Jerry "Chris" Christensen were married and had 2 daughters - Wendy and Courtney. Sandra and Jerry owned a crop-dusting business in Texas for almost 15 years. She was a homemaker for many of their remaining years together baking the best apple pies and thousands of dozens of cookies for their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends, neighbors and more. She was preceded in death by both her parents; her husband Jerry "Chris" Christensen; her daughters - Tammy and Leslie; her step son - Randy Christensen; her step daughter - Holly Christensen; her grandson - Brian Awalt; her granddaughter Keishia Renea; her step great granddaughter - Afton Fisher; her step daughter-in-law - Paula Christensen. She leaves behind her sisters - Donna Greenway and Debbie Koller; her daughters - Rebecca Shipton & husband Jeff, Wendy Alexandre & husband Shane Kirkham and Courtney Wolfe; more than 50 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, all very beloved. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 7, 2021, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Gooding with Bishop Chris McGinnis conducting. Burial took place at Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding, Idaho. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service. Bernice Joan Grimes
Bernice Joan (Dayley) Grimes was born October 25, 1935 to William and Frankie Casch of Shoshone, Idaho. Bernice as a child could remember helping her dad at the Meat Butcher Store and riding horses with her friends a lot and babysitting for extra money. She attended schools in Shoshone and Gooding. After leaving high school she married Jim Dayley of Shoshone. Her and Jim had three children – JoAnn, Bill and Steve. While Jim was working for Idaho Fish and Game they lived in Hagerman, Mullan and Mackey. Jim passed away in 1975. Bernice married Elwood Grimes in 1976, to this union she welcomed – Stan, Richard, Diana, Cindy and Christine. Elwood was retired so they spent a lot of time traveling and spent 14 years in Mexico. Bernice learned how to speak Spanish. They met a lot of people and friends, enjoying a special friend – Victor that they helped out a lot. In 1982 she got her GED and graduated from C.S.I. with a Nursing Degree. She loved working in the emergency room, recovery room and surgery. She loved every part of the nursing department. In 1995 Elwood passed away. Bernice retired from nursing and started to travel to Europe and around the U.S. During this time, she got to know and enjoy her successful grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents – William and Frankie Casch; brother – Bud Casch; sister – Beverly Ciscar; both of her husbands – Jim Dayley and Elwood Grimes; and daughter – JoAnn. She is survived by her two sons – Bill (Mary) Dayley of Gooding and Steve (Debbie) Dayley of Hagerman; her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding. Funeral services are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel. Jeanne Chappell Clovis, 84, of Lebanon, Missouri died Sunday morning, October 4, 2020, at Life Care Center in Waynesville, Missouri. She was born January 13, 1936 to George D. and Hazel M Rannow Chappell. She had lived most of her life in the Rohnert Park, California area and was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. She moved from Hagerman, Idaho to Missouri a few years ago to be near her daughter. She is survived by two daughters, Randy Beasley and her husband Steve of Cotati, California and Pam Clovis of Lebanon, Missouri; two sons, Roy Freitas and Teri Silvelia of Rohnert Park, California, and Roger Freitas and his wife, Gail, of Santa Rosa, California; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald Chappell and his wife, Phyllis, of Cloverdale, California; and David Chappell and his wife, Kathy, of Kenwood, California; several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Hagerman Cemetery, Hagerman, Idaho. Dionisio Jauregui
Dionisio Jauregui, 92, a resident of Twin Falls, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at his home in Twin Falls. Dionisio "Danny" Jauregui, was born on April 8, 1929, in Amoroto, Vizcaya, Spain to Luis Jauregui and Vicenta Eizaguirre. He was raised and educated in Amoroto, Spain. He married Miren Maitena Arrate on October 1, 1960 in Amoroto, Spain. He is survived by his wife – Miren of Twin Falls; two daughters - Miren "Mary Ann" (Rick) Harris of Gooding and Conchi "Connie" (Ross) Miller of Twin Falls; five brothers - Luis Felix and Miguel of Australia, Jose Marie and Jose of Spain; one sister - Maria Gabiola of Spain; four grandchildren, Jessica (Josh), Amanda (Kevin), Brandon and Jeremy; five great grandchildren - Summer, Dallin, Winter, Annalise and Andie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dionisio was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother - Javier Jauregui. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gooding Basque Center. Services will conclude at the Basque Center. Albert Pete Veenstra
Albert Pete Veenstra, 79, a resident of Hagerman, passed away on May 30, 2021 at his home. Pete was born on April 20, 1942 in Inglewood, California, the son of Albert Veenstra and Vera Gale Veenstra. He was raised and educated in Riverside, California and later relocated to Artesia, California for work. He later continued his adventure and moved to Idaho in the early 1960’s to become a dairyman. He married Cheryl Christine Keeney on May 26, 1975 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pete is survived by: his wife – Cheryl Veenstra; two sons – Albert Pete Veenstra III of Boise and Travis Brewer of Filer; two daughters – Aaron Hines of Iva, South Carolina and Justine Schoessler of Kimberly; two brothers – John Veenstra of Wendell and Rick Veenstra of Mesa, Arizona; two sisters – JoAnna Veenstra of Wendell and Judy Veenstra Standeford of Pleasant Hill, Oregon; 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife – Carol June Stovall Veenstra; daughters – Sharie Veenstra and Darleen Veenstra; and his brother – Jim Veenstra.
