Free Fishing Day - June 10, 2023

Idaho's Free Fishing Day is a day to celebrate fishing in Idaho and no fishing license is required.

If you have never been fishing, Free Fishing Day is also a great day to learn. Fish and Game personnel and volunteers set up several free events at local fishing waters throughout the state to help first-timers discover the joys of fishing. There are a limited number of loaner rods and reels available to practice with but if you have your own equipment you are encouraged to bring it.

All other fishing rules and regulations including creel limits, opening dates, and tackle restrictions remain in effect. Always check the seasons and rules for the water where you plan to go fishing.

Small businesses are a huge part of what makes Idaho so special. They are the backbone of our economy; they employ our friends and neighbors; they showcase our state’s creativity and values; they provide invaluable goods and services; and they epitomize what makes the Gem State great.

On Friday, June 9, 2023, Idahoans are invited to Support Local Gems by giving their business to their favorite local shops and restaurants. Idahoans can get involved by shopping at a small business, dining at an independent restaurant, purchasing a gift card for a loved one, writing a review online, or simply saying “thank you” to a small business they love.

Additional partners of the Support Local Gems initiative include Governor Brad Little, Senator Mike Crapo, Congressman Mike Simpson, Congressman Russ Fulcher, Association of Idaho Cities, Idaho Association of Counties, Idaho Chamber Alliance, Idaho Retailers Association, Idaho Lodging and Restaurant Association, Idaho Association of Commerce & Industry, and the Boise Metro Chamber.

“It’s impossible to measure just how substantially Idaho’s small businesses contribute to our state’s economy, our workforce, our communities, and our way of life in the Gem State,” said Senator Risch. “I am tremendously grateful to these businesses for all they do. On Friday, June 9th, join me and celebrate the local gems that strengthen Idaho communities."

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, driving innovation and job creation. The State of Idaho is proud that years of back-to-back tax relief and historic investments into workforce and infrastructure have strengthened our business climate. Idaho’s small businesses are beloved members of our communities and deserve our support,” said Governor Little.

On the fourth annual Support Local Gems initiative, Idahoans are encouraged to once again give their full support to the small businesses – the local gems – that make Idaho a special place to live and grow.

Hello Summer!

by Camas Bug Crew

The Camas Bug Crew is excited for a new summer of battling noxious weeds in Camas County. This year is unique because we have no returning crew members, everyone is new to the crew this year. We would like to welcome Harper Rablin, Torri Tupper, Tyler Tews, and Emerie Smith. We join our returning supervisor Eric McHan continuing for a 15th year serving Camas County. We want to begin by telling you a little bit about our mission.

Most people understand that the bug crew works with insects but they don’t understand the daily workings of the crew. Most of our time is spent monitoring vegetation growth and insect numbers. In addition to this we also have a charge to educate the public about biological control, newspapers like this are critical in helping us achieve our goal. You can also see us educating the public through fair booths, parade floats, civic presentations, and guest lectures.

Gooding Car Show & Rusty Nuts Swap Meet

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Most land managers, scientists, and the public have come to see that using herbicides to control noxious weeds is costly and unsustainable. Our mission is to provide a new model of dealing with Idaho's noxious weed infestations. Every noxious weed has a predator or host enemy. These include: pathogens, rust, viruses, bacteria, and insects just to name a few. Our goal is to introduce our biological agents (insects) with their noxious weed hosts. We cannot do this alone, we need help.

The U.S Department of Agriculture, the Bureau of Land Management, local weed super intendants, soil conservation districts, and the public all play a role in helping us rid Camas County of noxious weeds. Federal agencies provide us with vehicles and funding to make this all possible. One of the best ways you can help us in this fight is by contacting the Camas County weed superintendent, Terry Lee (208 -764 -3512), if you know of a noxious weed infestation. He can determine if biological control is a good option.
