Free Fishing Day - June 10, 2023
Idaho's Free Fishing Day is a day to celebrate fishing in Idaho and no fishing license is required.

If you have never been fishing, Free Fishing Day is also a great day to learn. Fish and Game personnel and volunteers set up several free events at local fishing waters throughout the state to help first-timers discover the joys of fishing. There are a limited number of loaner rods and reels available to practice with but if you have your own equipment you are encouraged to bring it.
All other fishing rules and regulations including creel limits, opening dates, and tackle restrictions remain in effect. Always check the seasons and rules for the water where you plan to go fishing.

Small businesses are a huge part of what makes Idaho so special. They are the backbone of our economy; they employ our friends and neighbors; they showcase our state’s creativity and values; they provide invaluable goods and services; and they epitomize what makes the Gem State great.
On Friday, June 9, 2023, Idahoans are invited to Support Local Gems by giving their business to their favorite local shops and restaurants. Idahoans can get involved by shopping at a small business, dining at an independent restaurant, purchasing a gift card for a loved one, writing a review online, or simply saying “thank you” to a small business they love.
Additional partners of the Support Local Gems initiative include Governor Brad Little, Senator Mike Crapo, Congressman Mike Simpson, Congressman Russ Fulcher, Association of Idaho Cities, Idaho Association of Counties, Idaho Chamber Alliance, Idaho Retailers Association, Idaho Lodging and Restaurant Association, Idaho Association of Commerce & Industry, and the Boise Metro Chamber.
“It’s impossible to measure just how substantially Idaho’s small businesses contribute to our state’s economy, our workforce, our communities, and our way of life in the Gem State,” said Senator Risch. “I am tremendously grateful to these businesses for all they do. On Friday, June 9th, join me and celebrate the local gems that strengthen Idaho communities."
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, driving innovation and job creation. The State of Idaho is proud that years of back-to-back tax relief and historic investments into workforce and infrastructure have strengthened our business climate. Idaho’s small businesses are beloved members of our communities and deserve our support,” said Governor Little.
On the fourth annual Support Local Gems initiative, Idahoans are encouraged to once again give their full support to the small businesses – the local gems – that make Idaho a special place to live and grow.

Hello Summer!
by Camas Bug CrewThe Camas Bug Crew is excited for a new summer of battling noxious weeds in Camas County. This year is unique because we have no returning crew members, everyone is new to the crew this year. We would like to welcome Harper Rablin, Torri Tupper, Tyler Tews, and Emerie Smith. We join our returning supervisor Eric McHan continuing for a 15th year serving Camas County. We want to begin by telling you a little bit about our mission.
Most people understand that the bug crew works with insects but they don’t understand the daily workings of the crew. Most of our time is spent monitoring vegetation growth and insect numbers. In addition to this we also have a charge to educate the public about biological control, newspapers like this are critical in helping us achieve our goal. You can also see us educating the public through fair booths, parade floats, civic presentations, and guest lectures.

Gooding Car Show & Rusty Nuts Swap Meet
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Most land managers, scientists, and the public have come to see that using herbicides to control noxious weeds is costly and unsustainable. Our mission is to provide a new model of dealing with Idaho's noxious weed infestations. Every noxious weed has a predator or host enemy. These include: pathogens, rust, viruses, bacteria, and insects just to name a few. Our goal is to introduce our biological agents (insects) with their noxious weed hosts. We cannot do this alone, we need help.
The U.S Department of Agriculture, the Bureau of Land Management, local weed super intendants, soil conservation districts, and the public all play a role in helping us rid Camas County of noxious weeds. Federal agencies provide us with vehicles and funding to make this all possible. One of the best ways you can help us in this fight is by contacting the Camas County weed superintendent, Terry Lee (208 -764 -3512), if you know of a noxious weed infestation. He can determine if biological control is a good option.

Cup of Tee

© They say that deficient sleep causes memory loss. Do these people who do these studies loose any sleep? If they do, they are probably creating ways to insure the buck stays or grows in their direction. The other day I visited a Facebook account. Activity had been quite awhile since last logging in. Everything was converted over to Spanish or Portuguese. Did my sleep deprecation change things into another language? In other words... did my lack of sleep due to farm harvesting cause me memory loss?
Things have been the same for years, why the sudden change? I don't think I suddenly have this memory loss that has changed my way of doing things or thinking, especially changing things into another language. I tried to change the format into English, which is the language I have used all my life. It seemed like all the procedures and buttons needed to do such a change didn't work.
Then I got into the category to help me fix the problem. All the subheadlines say, "How do I get my Facebook back to English? How do I change languages? Why is my Facebook changed to another language?" There were numerous other questions where people were trying to get back what they had. Did all these people before me have some kind of memory loss due to lack of sleep?
I would challenge to say, "NO, they did
by Tee Hurd
NOT!" Once I got into the help section, the number one answer was, "Your primary language is such and such, which is not English." Funny update wouldn't you say?!

All of this procedure is using lots of time with people playing in closed mazes, you end up right back where you started with no progress. The whole bottom line is our phone service providers are running out of ways to make money. They sold us cell towers (prepaid by us of course), phones that only work for a few months before they are technologically out-of-date. Then they sell you more phones and more phones. They are running out of things to sell us to keep the dollars they are accustomed.
Basically, they sell time. Now they have to create ways for us to use time. This is done by changing all your stuff into another language without keys to open, having functions that don't work on your phone, and continual updates you didn't authorize among other things to get another buck.
Does one really think you have any kind of control in which you do daily life? My answer to that is, "You think you do." The best way to control the masses is to control the life dependencies. How about we give the phone companies another raise to lower our services?

...Hello, Operator... Could you please connect me to another "Cup of Tee?" Say what??? You say I'm speaking a foreign language?

Donna Faye Watts
Our beloved mother & grandmother was called home on May 30, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Boise, Idaho. Donna Faye Watts, 74 resided in Jerome, formerly of Wendell & West Point Community.

Donna was born on October 9, 1948, in Cedar Springs, Missouri. She was the first born to Bud & Minnie Watts. Donna soon became a big sister to her two brothers Skeeter & Bob, then her family grew with a sister Joyce. They moved to Gooding, Idaho on Thanksgiving Day in 1957. Soon followed two more sisters, Kelly & Gina.
Donna always had a mind of her own even before she could talk. She loved sneaking off with her Grandpa Watts because she knew she would get ice cream. Being the oldest of 6 children Donna had an early lesson of responsibility and motherhood.
Donna graduated from Gooding High School in 1966. After high school she met a young man named Frank Ruffing that took a liking to her, but Donna decided to move to California. Well, Frank chased her down to Anaheim, California where she was working at a nursing home which is now Disneyland to ask her to marry him. Frank & Donna joined in marriage in the summer of 1968 at the Catholic Church in Gooding, Idaho.
Frank and Donna moved to Wendell and lived in the West Point area together for over 20 years while farming during potato harvest and milking cows. With that marriage, they had their first 3 boys, Slade in 1969, Chad in 1971, and Travis in 1972. A few years later in 1977 their fourth boy, Toby came along. Then finally the last child was born in 1980, a baby girl, Kathryn (Kate). Donna loved all her children so much. She was always waiting with open arms giving big hugs and lots of kisses especially years later when her children upgraded her to be a NANA. She cherished every single moment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In the early years the family spent a lot of time at the West Point Store with Donna’s best friend Pat Boss and family drinking coffee, playing cards and enjoying fish fries with the locals. They were on a bowling team for many years. Donna had a love for many things, everything Mickey Mouse, but her biggest obsession was her coffee. She always had a cup of coffee around. She also enjoyed camping and baking Christmas Goodies with her close girlfriends while enjoying hot toddies.
In 1985 she started her long-life career at Simerly’s in Wendell working various positions. She worked there for the next 38 years. Donna was a hard worker and very strong even though she seemed petite in appearance. Everyone knew her at the store with her infectious laugh and smile. She was never one to shy away from a hug. Donna loved her customers, and they loved her.
In 1988 Donna & Frank divorced and she moved to town. She resided there until 2006 and then moved in with her mother, Minnie in Jerome. Donna remained living with her 91-year-old mother, and her younger brother, Skeeter until the Lord called her home.
Donna is survived by her five children, Slade Ruffing (Jessica), Chad Ruffing (Rondi), Travis Ruffing (Carina Latham), Toby Ruffing (Tiffany Eckles), Kate Kober (Joey Pacheco). She is also survived by her mother, Minnie Williams, two brothers, Skeeter Watts, Bob Watts (Miki), her three sisters, Joyce Haffner (Wayne), Kelly Bryant (Randy), Gina Rallison, several beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.
Donna is preceded in death by her father Bud, grandson Ethan, her very special friend Pat Boss, and numerous family & friends.
We would like to give a special thank you to all the staff at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Boise that provided our mother with special care! A Celebration of Life was held on June 5, 2023, at the New Life Community Church in Wendell. www.demarayfuneralservice.com
Vivian Jeanne Earl Spencer
Vivian Jeanne Earl Spencer, 79, passed away May 25, 2023, at home with her family by her side. She was born January 2, 1944, in Wendell, Idaho, to L Ray and Vivian Stanger.
Jeanne was a natural mini mother and teacher as the oldest of six children. Jeanne grew up in the Magic Valley area and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Jeanne married Stan Earl in November of 1961. Together they welcomed three children: Jay, Janelle, and Arlon. Ten years later the final, and as he claims, "the favorite," Dustin was born, completing their family. They had numerous adventures and some of their favorites were riding their motorcycle and snow machines together. Stan died in 1984, leaving Jeanne and Dusty to have many adventures of their own as the older siblings had already left the nest.
Jeanne later married Glen Spencer in September of 1992. Traveling was also an exciting activity they shared, making countless trips around the country. Between the two of them they had eight children. Jeanne loved her family and especially loved family reunions. Gathering as many of her 8 children, 47 grandchildren, and 47 great grandchildren was a highlight of her summers.
Over her lifetime Jeanne was an active member within the community and served in various capacities and callings within the church. She loved teaching the youth both at church and as a seminary teacher. Highlights of her church service included two missions with Glen as Family History and Deseret Industries missionaries, and more than 4 years in the Twin Falls Temple. She was also an avid journal writer, filling dozens of spiral notebooks to document over 60 years of her life.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents L Ray and Vivian, siblings Donna and Lonny, son Arlon, and a great grandchild.
She is survived by her husband Glen Spencer, children; Jay (Paula) Earl, Janelle (Charles) Green, Dustin (Amber) Earl, Thom (Stephanie) Spencer, Tiffany (Jody) Dille, Tara (Howard) Wicker, Pam (Cameron) McHan, and Karen Earl. She is also survived by her 47 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, three siblings, and many nieces, and nephews.
We would like to thank Hospice Visions, namely Steve, Keeley, and Heather, as well as the rest of the staff for the care they gave to Jeanne over the last several months.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 2, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Eastland in Twin Falls. Burial followed at the Wendell Cemetery.
