2nd Annual Unicorn Day Fundraiser in Gooding
This year’s Unicorn Day fundraiser to help restore the Schubert Theatre will be more fun than ever with Unicorn Rides through the enchanted forest, create your own miniature fairy garden, face painting, slime, obstacle course, zip line, Pappyland kiddie swings, fish for toys, petting zoo, rainbow popcorn, fried “UniHorns”, Pepsi and Falls Brand hotdogs, and more! You won’t want to miss this one, so bring the kiddos and enjoy the day.
Gooding Young Guns
Last month, the Gooding Young Guns High school trap team finished 2nd in the Magic Valley Trap Shooting league. While there are only eight magic valley high school teams involved, this is the first Gooding team in history. There were 96 shooters and all of the Gooding shooters placed in the top 30 (only one shooter had an formal trap shooting experience). The team is run under the umbrella of the Gooding Youth Assoc. Inc. and many of these same kids will be participating in the 4-H State Shoot in Twin Falls this Saturday, June 9th. Outlaw Day ~ Saturday, June 9th
This Saturday is Outlaw Day in Richfield. Communty Breakfast at the Richfield School will be served from 7 to 9 a.m. The Outlaw Day Parade “In A Small Town…” will begin at 10:30 a.m. (registration and lineup starts at 9 a.m. at the city park). The Rodeo at the Richfield Arena begins at 12 noon (registration starts right after the parade at the announcers stand). The Outlaw Mud Races will start kicking up mud at 4:00 p.m. (following the rodeo events). Cost for all rodeo and mud race spectators, and participants, is $5.00 per person or $20 per family. Kids 12 and under are free. After everyone gets cleaned up (mud out of their eyes) it will be time to kick up your heels at the Street Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight. Hang around for the Gun Raffle Drawing.

Pappyland (the Koyle farm) is located 3.5 miles west of Stampede Burger on 7th Ave in Gooding (1556 East 1800 South). Tickets are $1.00 or 6 for $5.00. FREE TICKET vouchers have been placed at several business locations throughout Gooding. Visit our local businesses and bring your vouchers with you to the fundraiser. One voucher per person. All proceeds benefit Restoration of the Schubert Theatre! The roof drains are in, the new roof over the stage is completed, there is now conceptual plans for the restoration inside from the premier architectural firm of Myers*Anderson, and the target date to begin construction on the last phase of the roof project is in October! With the Governor’s appointment of Terry Zech to Lincoln County Board of Commissioners, the Lincoln County Republicans need to fill the position of Precinct Committee Person for District Number 3 (North Shoshone). Members of the Precinct Committee are the direct link and resource for people to the Republican Party. Public Transportation Advisory Council
The Public Transportation Advisory Council (PTAC) is seeking public comment on a halfdozen applications vying for representative spots for District 4 in south-central Idaho and District 6 in eastern Idaho to serve on the advisory council.
Public comment is open from May 30 – June 29
The individual selected for south-central Idaho (District 4) will represent Blaine, Camas, Lincoln, Twin Falls, Jerome, Gooding, Cassia, and Minidoka counties. The individual selected for eastern Idaho (District 6) will represent Lemhi, Custer, Clark, Butte, Jefferson, Madison, Teton, Bonneville and Fremont counties. The six-member PTAC was created to advise the transportation department on issues related to public transportation in Idaho. PTAC district applications can be reviewed online by going to itd.idaho.gov/pt/ and clicking on the “Advisory Groups” tab. Hagerman Library ~ Luncheon & Fashion Show On Saturday, June 30th, the Hagerman Valley Library Foundation is sponsoring a fundraising event for the Hagerman Public Library at 1000 Springs Resort. The current library located at 290 South State Street in Hagerman is 71 years old and is too small to meet the needs of the Hagerman community. There is a desperate, critical, urgent, pressing, vital, extreme need to expand its programs and the space in which those programs take place. On June 30th, plan on being at the 1000 Springs Resort (18734 Highway 30 - 6 miles south of Hagerman) from 12 to 3 p.m. for a catered lunch and Fashion Show by Chico’s. The event will also include a silent auction and a quilt raffle. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Hagerman Library, Ace Hardware, and City Hall. Montana State University Announces Undergraduate Honor Rolls
To make the honor rolls at MSU, students must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours, and achieve a high grade point average. Students with a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the semester are named to the President’s Honor Roll. The Dean’s Honor Roll includes students earning a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the semester. Amelia Fugate from Fairfield, who graduated from Montana State University - Community Health, on May 5th, was one of just over 100 Idaho students were on MSU 2018 spring semester honor rolls. Congratulation to Amelia (Millie) on her hard won accomplishment.
Vandalism at Elmwood Cemetery
David White recently put out decorations on his son’s grave at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding. A few days later he found that someone had damaged those items. The first was a glass bird feeder which someone shot a BB through. That was replaced with a Solar powered lantern from a hanging floral stand. Someone pulled the stand out of ground, taking it and the attached lantern. Theft of property is bad enough, but desecrating a grave is worse. Shame on the person who did this.

Thomas Allen Young, 63 of Dietrich, Idaho died May 24, 2018, at his home in Dietrich, Idaho. Thomas Allen Young was born on April 3, 1955, in Los Angeles, California, and was adopted July 6, 1955, on his grandfather’s birthday, by Allen Richard Young and Patricia Agnes Lund, Young. That afternoon proud dad put up a sign in the front yard of their home in Gardena, CA, “It’s a bbb0000yyy!!!” Tom was raised in Gardena, Bell, Yucaipa and Torrance, CA where he attended North Torrance High School. He had one year of college in Camarillo, CA, but never stopped learning. He had studied Auto Mechanics in High School. He worked as a boat mechanic in San Pedro, CA. He received a birthday gift of Scuba Diving Lessons while in High School and spent many hours in the water around Redondo Beach and Catalina Island bringing home lobster and abalone. He also enjoyed learning all he could about life in the ocean. Tom was an avid photographer, winning many blue ribbons from the local fair, for his submissions. He loved sharing photos with family and friends, online and as gifts. We will all miss the beautiful birds, flowers and frosty trees. Tom also enjoyed researching and setting up helpful programs for businesses and organizations i.e. the Shoshone Cemetery District where he has every plot logged with vital information to help locate friends and relatives. Tom followed his Mom and sisters to Idaho where he worked in Gooding and Twin Falls in Diesel Engines, and Boat Repairs. After the boat shop closed, a friend suggested he apply for the Public Works Director at the City of Dietrich. He was accepted and thus began a 14-year relationship with the townspeople, and building the water, sewer and wastewater system into a state of the arts system for the City of Dietrich. Earlier this year, he received SOURCE WATER PROTECTION SYSTEM OF THE YEAR from the Idaho Rural Water Association at their Annual Spring Conference. Tom was preceded in death by his Grandparents, J. Leo and Gladys Young, Roy and Sally Anderson, and Lester C Lund, his father, Allen R Young, and step-father, James J. Baker and cousin, Michael D Young. Tom is survived by his mother, Patricia A Baker of Shoshone, ID, Sisters, Joyce (Richard) Rawson of Livingston MT, Carol (Harold Sauer) Petty of Filer, step brothers & sisters, Randy Baker, Palm Springs CA, Michael (Kimberly) Baker, Deer Park, WA, Kevin Baker, Fort Atkinson, WI, Greg Baker, Joplin, MO, Robin (Balys) Platukis, Jacksonville FL, Christi (Robert) Emmons, Bellflower CA. Tom is also survived by many nieces and nephews Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the Dietrich LDS Church, Dietrich Idaho, with Pastor Hoby Spark, Shoshone First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Dietrich Cemetery, Dietrich, Idaho. The family would like to extend an invitation for everyone to please join them at the Eagle’s Nest in Dietrich following the graveside service. Memorial gifts may be left with the mortuary for a future tribute in Tom’s name in the Dietrich area. Theresa Jean Leek Dennis
Theresa Jean Leek Dennis, 94, longtime resident of Fairfield, Wendell and Boise died May 25th, 2018 of natural causes. Theresa (Tess) Leek was born July 12, 1923 to Chapman H. Leek & Irene Ballard Leek. Tess was raised in Fairfield. She married the Arlin C. Dennis, on June 7th, 1945, in Fairfield Idaho. Both were teachers at Camas County High School. Arlin and Tess lived near the Leek Homestead on Soldier Creek and raised three sons. They were married 68 years until his passing in 2013. In addition to being a respected teacher, she coached girls basketball. In 1959 they moved to Wendell where Tess taught 6th grade and later was the librarian, and Arlin was the principal for 19 years. They moved to Heyburn where Tess was the librarian at the middle school. After 4 years there they retired and moved to Boise in 1992. Tess enjoyed books and family gatherings. She was a proud member of P.E.O., promoting educational opportunities for women. She dearly loved her family. She had an amazing memory and often recounted stories about each of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Kelly, Kirk (Carol), Kip and daughter in law, Janet. Also seven grandchildren John (Katie) Dennis, Kaylin Dennis, Amanda (Luke) Morgan, Phillip (Heidi) Dennis, Kimberly (Ashley) Jones, Patrick (Waive) Dennis, Andrew (Caitlin) Dennis. She is “Grandma Great” to Gretchen and Ethan Morgan, Finn Dennis, Tessa Thompson, James Arlin Jones, and Liam Dennis. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews with many fond memories. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters, and daughter-in-law Gwen. The family would like to give a special thanks to caregivers Sunny at Pattie House, Hospice and Beverly. In honor of her lifelong enthusiasm for teaching, and the enjoyment of books, a contribution in Tess’s memory is suggested to a library of your choice or the Fairfield Public Library at 607 Soldier Road, Fairfield, Idaho 83327, or a charity of choice. A graveside Memorial will be held at the Hagerman Cemetery on Saturday, June 30th at 10:30 a.m.

Gooding Bookmobile
The Gooding Elementary Library is sponsoring a book mobile this summer to loan library books to children age 4 to 18, to read during summer vacation. Every week, we will drive the school van to a location around Gooding. The white van has signs on the doors that say “Library / Biblioteca.” At each visit, Mrs. Teresa Miller, GES Librarian, will spread a blanket outside the van, read a couple of stories, and check out some library books. We will also be bringing a free lunch for students from ages 1 – 18 years old provided by the Gooding Child Nutrition Program and the United States Department of Agriculture. (If adults wish to buy a lunch, it will cost $3.75). The book mobile will be traveling Tuesdays and Wednesdays, June 4 through Wednesday, August 1. Our schedule will take us to Big Sky Heifer Ranch, Cody Turner’s Dairy, Firehouse #2, First Southern Baptist Church, Shoestring Trailers, ABC 123 Preschool, April’s Day Care, and Angie Miller’s Preschool. Big Game Application Period Extended Until June 7
In recognition of current licensing system issues, F&G has extended the big game application period to midnight on June 7 (Mountain Time). Fish and Game continues to work with its license system contractor to solve the problem so it can get the licensing system back online as soon as possible. In the meantime, Fish and Game is trying to ensure customers are treated fairly and have an opportunity to apply for controlled hunts.
