Ten Tips When Taking Kids Fishing
By Mike Demick, Staff Biologist
Do you want to be a rock star to your kids this summer? Consider grabbing some fishing gear and taking them on a family adventure. From the fresh air to the excitement of feeling a tug on your line, fishing provides the perfect excuse to spend together-time outdoors. Plus, introducing young children to the sport, which may seem daunting for some, is actually easy with a little planning. “Fishing is a great sport even for little kids, if you introduce it in a positive way,” says Greg Schoby, Fish and Game Fisheries Manager in Salmon. “And remember: Keep it fun, short and simple, and the kids will be hooked.” If you have never been fishing before, Idaho's Free Fishing Day, set for June 11, 2022, may be the perfect day to start. No fishing license is required, but all other rules apply. Fish and Game personnel and volunteers will host several free events at local fishing waters throughout the state to help first-timers discover the joys of fishing. continued on page 2...

Scholarships For Students In 10 Local Counties
The Janice Seagraves Family Foundation will partner with the College of Southern Idaho to award $40,000 in scholarships available to high school graduates in 10 southwestern Idaho counties, CSI officials have announced. Students graduating from high schools in Blaine, Butte, Camas, Cassia, Custer, Gooding, Jerome, Lincoln, Minidoka, and Twin Falls qualify for the scholarships. Applications are currently being accepted and students can apply through the CSI general scholarship application, which is on the students’ MyCSI account page. A student must be PELL grant eligible and have maintained a 3.0 GPA in high school to be eligible for the scholarship. High school students who are graduating this spring or current CSI students who graduated from a high school in one of those 10 counties qualify. The scholarships will start in the Fall 2022 semester. The goal of the scholarships is to help outstanding high school students in the area with their financial needs in higher education. If selected for a scholarship, a student must maintain a full-time class schedule, a 3.0 GPA each semester and meet PELL funding requirement to retain the scholarship. The Janice Seagraves Family Foundation is a private, nonprofit foundation located in Twin Falls. The foundation focuses on grants to entities in the 10 counties along the Highway 93 corridor from the northern Nevada border to the northern border of Custer County.
