A New Beginning in Gooding Home Decor, Swanky Clothes, and Cell Phone Repair

Two Sparrows Decor and Small Town Swank have teamed up to reopen the doors at 337 Main Street in Gooding. Joey and Karima Vega are excited to bring back their unique home decor products, customized signs and stencils, and kits for crafting.

Small Town Swank started out in Fairfield last year providing fun and budget friendly fashion for busy moms, as well as men. They also have aromatherapy jewelry, and locally made items. The owners, Cheyenne Wilson and Amanda Hulme (photo), have brought on a new member for their team - Kathy Mennenga - who is well known for her own business... Rearranging Nature (she does amazing things with gords and other dryed plant items).

And, if that is not enough, Joey Vega is now providing accessories and repairs for your cell phones. No need to toss your favorite phone, just bring it in to Cell Phone Gear. Sometimes it is a simple thing that prevents it from working the way you want it.

Camas Lily Days June 1st & 2nd

The lilies have started to put out their flowering stalks and in some places there are blooms. In a week or two, the Camas Lilies should be at their peak.

The 2019 State Track & Field events will take place this weekend at Middleton High School. Events will begin at 9 a.m. on May 17th and 18th.

On Saturday, the Parade of Athetes will take place at 11:30 and events will continue at 12:30.

On Monday, May 27th, Twin Falls High School will host this year’s Annual District IV North/South All Star Football. This annual event helps support the Shriners Hospital and donations are appreciated (bring a can of food).

8-Man begins at 3:30 p.m. 11-Man begins at 6:00 p.m.

These games are made possible by the District IV Idaho High School Activities Association and the Magic Valley District Shrine Council.

The City of Bliss is planning their annual firework show. The Bliss Fire Department will hold their annual BBQ, and there will be a band and street dance. This is a great opportunity for clubs and locals to do a fundraising booth or activity. No fees will be charged.

Camas Conservation District is working with the NRCS to provide a fantastic opportunity for

the farmers of Camas County. We are accepting volunteers to participate in a 5 year long soil testing program at reduced cost. The soil test will include the following test: Years 1, 3, and 5 a complete test (Haney, Traditional, and PLSA); Years 2 and 4 only a traditional test. CCD ask that all participants complete all five years of the testing. The NRCS would like to start collecting soil samples in June of 2019. The samples will be taken by a NRCS personnel. May is recognized as first responder month. We at the Gooding United Methodist Church would like to honor our community first responders and thank them for the wonderful work they do when called upon.

A special “Recognize our First Responder” service will be held on May 19, 2019, at the church (805 Main Street in Gooding). Come for fellowship, coffee and cookies at 10:30 a.m. Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. There will also be a potluck after the service.

2019 Fairfield Farmer’s Market

NEW SEASON! NEW VENU! NEW START! The Fairfield Farmer’s Market will be joining the Fairfield Tourist Caboose for the 2019 season.

We will set up in the high visability grassy area to the east of the caboose. The vendors are very excited for this excellent opportunity to bring the farmer’s market to even more customers.

Opening Day for the market will be Friday, June 7th. Hours will be from 2 to 6 p.m.

The market will run every Friday from June through October (weather permitting). Plan on stopping by to visit with some of your local farmers and take home something great to enjoy over the weekend.

DEQ Seeks Comments on Water Reuse Permit for City of Hagerman Bath N Body Boutique

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking public comment on a draft water reuse permit for the City of Hagerman in Gooding County.

The permit authorizes the city to operate a wastewater collection and treatment facility for five years. It allows recycled water to be used to irrigate field crops during the growing season.

As part of the permitting process, the city is required to show how it will address health and environmental concerns, including methods of preventing surface and ground water contamination. The draft permit specifies loading rate limits, and monitoring requirements established by DEQ to protect public health and the environment.

Written comments on the draft permit will be accepted through May 16, 2019, at 5 p.m.

Linda Lou Paine

Linda Lou Paine, 56, a resident of Shoshone, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls.

Linda was born on August 26, 1962 in Jerome, Idaho, the daughter of Winfred and Eula Shoup Paine. She made her home in Shoshone.

Linda is survived by: her brother – Percy (Val) Paine of Twin Falls, an uncle – Charles Paine; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; aunts and uncles.

-- -- -The following was written by Linda’s dear friend, Ted Roy of Twin Falls My first memories of getting to know Linda, well they date around 1995-1996. Twin Falls had a regular disabilities activities and recreation group going then. Whenever bowling was scheduled, she always showed up to beat me.

We were also driving similar years of wheelchair adapted Dodge Caravans back then. Linda started calling and coming by, asking me what I knew or could do to keep her van working and on the road. Soon it was working on her wheelchairs. Her house. It never really ended – L.O.L. A lot of us gathered here know what I’m talking about and what these times were like.

I joked with her often that Linda came by her last name “PAIN” quite literally. It didn’t phase her, the requests kept coming.

But now deep down, I never really minded. Linda was good training for me and a mentor. Because our life situations living with disabilities, often on our own… our family members - busy, distant or passed away – soon mirrored each other. We truly understood and motivated each other to keep going, so that our lives would have joy and meaning, despite our difficulties.

Linda found strength and comfort in God and fellowship with her home church – First Baptist of Shoshone. She greatly appreciated all forms of your friendship, help and encouragement whether it was spiritual, gifts of your time and talents and at times financial. Linda loved being a Deaconess. She loved playing the organ for you all.

It also moved Linda when she was asked to play the organ, included or to lend a hand with bandages and care packages for others, with other church denominations in the area.

Although many helped along the way and some have passed away, Linda repeatedly mentioned and appreciated the following people since I have

known her: Pastor Larry and Hoby Sparks, Danny, Mrs. Oliver, Dee Gaston, Nikki, Fred, The Monroe family, Ray and Lynn.

Linda did and enjoyed all these things, for as long as her health allowed. Linda enjoyed travel, RV’ing with her parents, had great love and respect for them – visiting family and friends. Linda enjoyed work, until her health and body was failing, whether it was caregiving for Mrs. Hack, mowing lawns, custodian for the Shoshone School District, or working for the Manhattan Café.

Linda loved her dogs – Frisky, Rex and Tippy. She enjoyed riding her three wheeled motorcycle back in the day.

Linda loved the small-town vibe of Shoshone, and enjoyed telling the oral history of the town and its residents, she learned throughout her lifetime.

Linda loved western TV shows, movies and music in the likes of John Wayne, Gunsmoke and Bonanza.

Linda was a self-taught artist. She was commissioned for two Indian murals adorning the Shoshone High School Gym, another mural resides in the abandoned Animal House building.

Linda loved the home arts. For years she had a beautiful yard, trees, flowers and vegetable garden. She enjoyed home canning her harvest.

At times Linda was a food pantry recipient, but she frequently gave back to them also when Linda had a little extra at the end of a month.

Linda loved decorating for Christmas, until recent years, leaving many decorations up year-round.

Linda loved to crochet and embroider – afghans, gifts, and toys for children, dogs and cats – by the hundreds, which she donated to Ronald McDonald House, Toys for Tots and similar charitable organizations.

Linda loved dressing up and being in Shoshone parades – one year winning First Place. She loved attending and participating in Shoshone community events.

In closing, the best way I know we can honor Linda going forward is to help a person out when they ask it of you, as best as you can, and keep doing and enjoying the things that brought you and Linda together.

Linda is overjoyed to be freed from years of failing health and her failing earthly body.

A graveside funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding, next to her parents, and aunt and uncle.

Vernon Lee Carter, 70, a resident of Wendell, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2019 at his home in Wendell. A family memorial celebration of life for Vernon will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Wendell Cemetery.

Elizabeth “Bethy” Tews, 94, formerly of Shoshone, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at her home in Emmett, Idaho. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Shoshone First Baptist Church at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 17, 2019.

Ted Frostenson

The family of Ted Frostenson would like to invite his friends and family to join them in an open house style time of remembering his life on May 18th, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Community Church in Fairfield.

Ted passed away on December 8, 2018 and his family is bringing his body home to rest in Fairfield, all the while celebrating that he is alive and with his Savior Jesus Christ.

Solomon Matthew Meyer

Solomon Matthew Meyer, 34, of Spokane, Washington and formerly of Wendell, Idaho, went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2019, after fighting a short illness.

Solomon Matthew Meyer was born on August 17, 1984 to Tim and Bonnie Meyer of Wendell, Idaho. His siblings Levi (Chelsea), Nathan (Kara), and Angela Meyer were enthused.

Solomon had a prolific childhood filled with homeschooling, enjoying the love the family and developed a strong work ethic. He found his interests in woodworking, snowboarding, and lending an eager hand to anyone who had need. Solomon brought his vibrant and fun-loving personality into all that he did.

Solomon attended the University of Idaho in 2007, earning placement on the Dean’s List and obtained two degrees. One in Business Information Systems and the other in Business Operation Management. True to his nature, he gathered many lifelong friends, fraternity brothers and enjoyed living life to the fullest. He gained employment at Ciena in Spokane, Washington for 10 years. He was blessed by being an uncle to Elisha (15), Emily (13), Matthew (12), Noah (12), and Jeremy (9) Meyer. He loved his family dearly and filled our lives with laughter and excitement.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Wendell Cemetery.

Service was followed by a Celebration of Life at Living Waters Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Wendell.

Lesslie L. Goble

On May 9 Less Goble took his final ride on a 1946 model B John Deere tractor like the one he bought with his GI Bill to start farming. His son, Gary Goble, drove him to the gravesite and put his ashes on the seat of his prized 140 John Deere garden tractor for the military ceremony and explanation of pictures by his daughter, Deborah Smart.

A luncheon was served at the Senior Citizen Center in Wendell by his daughter in law, Corrine Goble.

A team of nurses and epidemiologists inspected all of those patients today and confirmed that currently none of the patients are showing symptoms for the disease.

SCPHD will continue to monitor the group for symptoms until May 18th to ensure they have not caught the disease. In the meantime, they urge residents to check their immunization records and confirm they are protected against measles with two MMR vaccines. Unvaccinated individuals 1 year and older should receive a measles vaccination to protect themselves and those around them.

Symptoms include fever, runny nose, cough, and eye discharge followed by a fever and rash. If you are showing symptoms, and know you’ve been exposed to the disease, it is important you limit your exposure to other people so you don’t spread the disease. In addition, there is an unestimated volume of forest products that may be removed at the option of the purchaser. Prior to bidding, eligible bidders shall present a certified check or bank draft payable to Treasurer, State of Idaho, or a bid bond acceptable to the State, in the amount of $23,186.59 which is 10% of the appraised net sale value of $231,865.85.
