Children’s Book Project in Gooding
This spring, the Gooding Public Library was awarded the “Children’s Book Project” grant from the Pilcrow Foundation of Oregon. The Children’s Book Project added 95 new hard-cover books to the library collection; these include some super story books and spectacular books about math and science. The Gooding Library offers weekly on-site programs for children, as well as outreach services to local preschools, kindergartens and Head Start, to encourage and foster a love of reading in our youngest members of the community. The new books will enrich the story times that are offered, as well as provide new material available for check-out. Library Director, Cindy Bigler, said she, the library staff, and the kids, are all greatly appreciative towards those who made the Children’s Book Project donation (over $1600 of materials) possible: Bill Strawbridge and Meg Wallhagan of California, Hal Bereneson and Laura Ackerman of Colorado, and the Gooding Library Foundation.

SCPHD Offering Free Tobacco Cessation Classes
It is never too late to quit! Beginning May 9th, South Central Public Health District (SCPHD) is partnering with Shoshone Family Medical Center to offer a new set of Freedom From Smoking® classes to help you become tobacco-free. Tobacco causes a majority of the preventable death and disease in the United States. According to the CDC, every year more than 440,000 people die from smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke. Meanwhile, around 8.6 million people are living with serious illness as a result of smoking and/or use of smokeless tobacco. “Our classes are specifically designed to help those who wish to get rid of their tobacco addiction and take back control of their health,” says Cody Orchard, Health Education Specialist. The Freedom From Smoking® program was developed 35 years ago by the American Lung Association. Since then, the program has helped hundreds of thousands of people end their addiction to nicotine. The adult tobacco cessation program is offered at no cost. Freedom From Smoking® classes will be held at Shoshone Family Medicine (113 S Apple St in Shoshone Idaho) on Wednesdays from May 9th to June 6th (5:30 to 6:30). Dave Kiger, will cover the gun laws in Idaho, responsible firearm ownership, and safety issues. You must furnish your own gun that is in compliance with concealed weapon laws, along with ammunition, safety glasses, and ear protection. Upon successful completion of the class, you will be provided with a Certificate of Completion and all the forms you need to apply for a concealed weapons permit at the sheriff’s office. Computer Repair Shop Water Reuse Permit Renewal for City of Richfield
The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking public comment on a draft water reuse permit renewal for the city of Richfield in Lincoln County. The permit authorizes the city to continue operating a wastewater treatment facility and reuse system for another 10 years. It allows recycled water to be used to irrigate agricultural crops not for direct human consumption during the growing season. As part of the permitting process, the city is required to show how it will address public health and environmental concerns, including methods of preventing surface and ground water contamination. The draft permit specifies buffer zones around the irrigation site, hydraulic and nutrient loading rates, operating practices, and monitoring requirements established by DEQ to protect public health and the environment. The draft permit and staff analysis are available for public review at DEQ’s Twin Falls Regional Office and on DEQ’s website. In the very near future, you will start noticing the majority of the Lincoln County patrol fleet vehicles are going to being replaced with these good looking new patrol trucks pictured here. (The photo is a representation of what we’re getting. Also, we’re not getting Cummings diesel, as shown in the photo). I would like to explain to you, in the spirit of transparency, that we are not purchasing these trucks, instead we’re leasing these trucks. By leasing 6 patrol trucks instead of purchasing them, we’re able to replace the majority of our aging patrol fleet for about the same yearly cost of purchasing one truck. We have leased a transport van, as well. Leasing also allows us to maintain a newer patrol fleet on the road thereby minimizing liability and maintenance paid. No patrol truck in our fleet will have over 90,000 Miles nor will any patrol truck be over three years old which will keep all of the trucks under warranty. Marilyn Nelle Anderson of Wendell, Idaho, passed away peacefully in her home on March 24, 2018, with her children by her bedside. Marilyn was born on May 5, 1942 in Las Animas, Colorado, to Alice Carrie and Mason Hadley Moore, the second of three siblings. During her childhood she lived on her parents’ and grandparents’ farms in the Kreybill community of Bent County, the Drennan community of El Paso County, and the Hasty community of Bent County. She attended grade schools at Krebyill, Drennan, and Hasty (later Lakeview). She was always at the top of her classes, was an active participant in school events such as plays and graduated from McClave High School as an honor student in 1959. She then attended Adams State College in Alamosa for her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1963. Following her undergraduate education, she obtained a Master’s degree in Education from Arizona State University in Tempe. Marilyn taught at elementary schools in Binghamton, New York; Yuma, Colorado; American Falls, Idaho; Wendell, Idaho; and Castleford, Idaho. Following her teaching career, she worked as a school counselor in American Falls, Idaho. As a youngster, Marilyn loved working with farm animals and dogs. She was active in 4-H with numerous clothing, lamb, and steer projects shown at the Bent County Fairs and Fashion Shows. During her teen years, she helped her mother and younger brother conduct farming operations while her father and older brother worked off the farm to support the family. She was equally at home riding a horse, driving a tractor, branding calves, or butchering fryers. Although the elementary and high schools she attended did not offer girls’ sports at that time, she enjoyed softball, horse riding, bicycling, shooting, and fishing with other family members. She was an avid baseball card collector and Brooklyn Dodgers (later LA) fan. Marilyn was an outstanding natural art student and as a teenager considered going into the commercial art field before she decided to pursue a teaching career. She was one of several individuals within her family heritage who have exhibited strong natural artistic skills. Marilyn married George Robert Anderson on September 4, 1974. Together they had three children and lived on a farm south of Wendell. They greatly enjoyed the small-town atmosphere and loved being able to have animals and great neighbors. Marilyn and her wonderful friend, Robin Windes, led a 4-H club for many years. Marilyn was always very active in helping any child who needed help with a project. Marilyn also loved fishing and the outdoors. She and her husband, George Anderson (19372011), could be found most summer days at fishing ponds around Hagerman, Idaho. They both loved to not only fish, but to help teach the younger generations there how to bring in the big fish. There were always lots of fish stories to entertain everyone. One of Marilyn’s favorite things in the world was being a grandmother. She loved reading with her grandchildren, painting, doing pottery and crafts, and just being with all of them. Each one of them was special to her. Marilyn is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Moore, and her husband, George Anderson. She is survived by her brother Russell (Jean) Moore; her three children, Lisa (John) Kidd, Alan (Melissa) Anderson, and Justin (Jennifer) Anderson; and eleven grandchildren. Marilyn’s Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Community of Christ Church (211 E Orchard Street) in Hagerman, Idaho. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Demaray Funeral Service – Wendell Chapel. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared at demarayfuneralservice.com.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING FOR SECTION XVII OF THE CAMAS COUNTY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN: on Monday, the 21st day of May, 2018 at 7:15 p.m. or as soon thereafter as the matter may be heard, the Planning and Zoning Commission of Camas County will hold a public hearing at the Senior Citizen Center, located at 125 W. Willow Ave., Fairfield, Idaho, to consider the approval of Section XVII to be added to the Comprehensive Plan for the County of Camas, in accordance with Sections 67-6508 and 67-6509 of the Idaho Code. The purpose of this hearing is for the public as well as the Planning and Zoning Commission to hear a new proposed Section XVII for the Comprehensive Plan for Camas County. A copy of the proposed Section XVII is available at no charge at the Camas County Courthouse Annex and at the public hearing. A general summary of the provisions of Section XVII is as follows: Section XVII - Public Airport Facilities This section covers the addition of public and private airports in Camas County including facilities and the airports at Fairfield (U86) and at West Magic (U93). It describes public-use and private-use airports and the goals and objectives for the new Section. Written comments will be received by the Planning & Zoning Administrator until May 17, 2018. Testimony at the hearing will be limited to five minutes.
