Legislators Tour District 25 Over the last several weeks, District 25 Legislators have been traveling around our area to visit with and update their constituents regarding this year’s legislative session. Two issues that made a lot of news this year were gas & oil regulations and ethics. Interestingly enough, these two issues overlapped when the chairman of the Senate Resources and Environment Committee, Monty Pearce from Payette County, reveled a potential conflict of interest during the final debate on H464 Gas & Oil Exploration (he had leases with a gas company). The Senate Ethics Committee eventually determined that Senator Pearce (R) did not have a true conflict of interest (according to Senate rule 39H), but they added that he should have disclosed the potential problem much earlier to avoid the “appearance” of impropriety. House Bill 464 dealt with a number of things relating to gas & oil drilling in Idaho, but the issue that upset most people was that it all but ignored local land use planning by prohibited local governments from regulating things like the location of wells. In a state where legislators often complain about federal regulations, many in Idaho thought it was hypocritical for the state to do the very same thing to local governments. Also, upsetting to some was the lack of regulation on chemicals used in fracking. It was fully acknowledged that continued on page 4.....

May 15th - 2012 Primary Election In just three weeks, Idaho will be going to the election booths for this year’s primary election. ~ ~ ~ Lincoln County ~ ~ ~ The big issue for many of you will be District 1 Commissioner party affiliation. In order to vote the ReRusty Parker - REP publican ticket, you will have to register Don Hudson - REP as a Republican. To vote the Democratic Cresley McConnell - REP ticket, you can affiliate with any party or District 3 Commissioner be unaffiliated. Roy Hubert - REP You can choose a party before the Betty Peyman - REP election at the clerk’s office, online at County Sheriff www.sos.idaho.gov, or you can fill out the Kevin Ellis - REP form at your polling place (this year only). Mike Bright - REP Local contested races for the primary ~ ~ ~ Camas County ~ ~ ~ include commissioners and one sheriff, all District 1 Commissioner on Republican tickets. Bill Davis - REP In Lincoln County, three people are Barbara McMurdo - REP looking for your vote for District One ~ ~ ~ Gooding County ~ ~ ~ Commissioner, two people for District District 3 Commissioner Two Commissioner, and two people for Terrell Williams - REP Lincoln County Sheriff. Wayne Chandler - REP In both Gooding and Camas County there is only one contested race: District One Commissioner in Camas; and District Three Commissioner in Gooding. In addition to the primary election, three of our area school districts will be holding levy elections. Those school districts and the amounts they are asking for are: Wendell School District: Two-year, $155,000 annual supplemental levy. Shoshone School District: Two-year, $300,000 annual supplemental levy. Richfield School District: Two-year, $225,000 annual supplemental levy.

2012 Camas County School Academic Fair Join us for an enjoyable evening Wednesday, April 25th from 5 to 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria and the Ed Marshall Gym to catch a glimpse of what our students have been doing. This is a time to celebrate accomplishments as some of the students and classes from Kindergarten through high school display projects they’ve created and demonstrate skills they’ve acquired. Some of the seniors will also present their Senior Projects. The sophomore class will provide a tasty potato bar supper for a reasonable fee.
