Keith’s previous job as a mechanic/machinist for a California power company has prepared him well for the RV servicing business, but Mr. Schrank is sticking around for a little while (in the RV camp ground) to help answer questions and make a smooth transition.

The Keiscome’s are also remodeling the front office and have brought in an assortment of items every RVers needs.

It’s a Wonderful World

The God Squad Puppet Team of Gooding 1st Christian Church invites you to their 20th Annual Spring Show, “It’s a Wonderful World” on Sunday, April 8th, 2018, at 3 pm and 6 pm.

This will be the Farewell/Final performance of the God Squad.

So, the team has selected several favorites of the Squad and their audiences over the past 20 years to share in this special time of remembering and celebrating the opportunities to serve and share over the past 20 years.

The show combines elements of puppetry, black-light effects, human drama, and lots of fun humor and the entire program is designed to entertain, encourage and inspire people of all ages.

Bluebird Meeting

The Southern Idaho Mountain Bluebird Association will meet Thursday, April 19 at Golden Corral in Twin Falls at 6:30 with a meeting to follow at 7 pm. The bluebirds are quickly returning and starting their first nest of the year in the hills north and south of the Magic Valley. Anyone interested in supporting the bluebird population in Camas Prairie, the South Hills, Monument Springs and other areas is invited to participate. Legislative Update from Senator Michelle Stennett End of 2018 Legislative Session

Every Idahoan should have the opportunity to prosper, and our effort at the Legislature aims to address that goal. I was proud to see hard work and bipartisanship this legislative session. While we all come from different backgrounds, the positive relationships between Senators, Representatives, Democrats, and Republicans are what make the process run so smoothly and allows us to perform good work on behalf of our constituents. Here’s a look at what happened this session: Tax Cuts - We started session strong with a necessary unemployment insurance tax cut for employers in Idaho. The next tax cut came at the cost of families and single parents with children who will see a tax increase, however, and I argued fervently against its passage. While I favor responsible tax cuts, the newest measure combined with a trailer bill ($130 million) comes at the expense of slashed career technical education programs, transportation infrastructure, and mental health services.

Unfortunately, after six years of opportunity, the Idaho Legislature has failed again to help the 62,000 Idahoans, thousands of whom are veterans, in the coverage gap. HB464, the bill creating the Idaho Health Care Plan, died not once, but twice on the House floor. The IHCP, while imperfect, would have helped about half of the people in the coverage gap.

Additionally, Sen. Jordan’s (D-Boise) bill, SB1224, calling for the Department of Health and Welfare to change their definition of Medicaid eligibility to include all individuals whose income is below 138 percent of the federal poverty level, died in the Senate Health and Welfare Committee.

I was proud to support the only successful bill addressing healthcare this session. Rep. Rubel’s (DBoise) bill to restore dental funding to Medicaid beneficiaries was signed into law and is a tremendous cost-saving measure as well as a major quality of life improvement for nearly 30,000 Idahoans.

The Legislature considered legalization of cannabidiol oil (CBD oil) once again - the first effort passed both chambers in 2015 and received the governor’s veto - but the bill died in the Senate Health and Welfare Committee. Idaho is conducting a study on epileptic children who use the commercial version of CBD oil, called Epidiolex, and its ability to reduce the frequency of seizures. The results have been very positive, although few children have been able to participate. Legalization would have provided the same results for a significantly lower price and ben-

efitted thousands of children and adults with intractable seizures.

Education - I serve on the newly created Workforce Development Council, responsible for improving Idaho’s skilled workforce. We do this by examining best practices for investing in post-secondary technical schools, providing incentive funding for high school technical programs, expanding career technical education (CTE), and advancing industry/education partnerships. Unfortunately, the governor’s budget included cuts to nearly every college and university program across the state, posing difficulties for the advancement of post-secondary education programs designed to strengthen workforce development.

The Senate Education Committee voted to upgrade science standards in our public schools for the first time in 17 years. The motion was led by Sen. Ward-Engelking (D-Boise), and passed with a 6-3 vote. Even though the upgraded standards were rejected by the House, rules are different than bills and only require passage by one chamber’s committee.

Trespass - Hours of debate in the House and Senate produced a lengthy change to trespass laws.

HB658aaS passed into law without the governor’s signature. Here’s why. The bill attempted to more aggressively protect private property rights in Idaho by consolidating criminal and civil trespass laws.

However, innocent behavior, like stepping onto a neighbor’s property, could result in large penalties: fines, attorney’s fees, and investigation expenses.

Landowners can be compensated at three times the damage plus the above penalties, while a falsely accused bystander can only be awarded attorney’s fees.

Though it exempts most licensed professionals working within their official capacities, land surveyors are not specifically exempted. Recreationists and neighbors are perceived in this bill as having less right to protection than landowners. This is especially difficult given that the relaxed property marking requirements are now subject to interpretation of conspicuous posting by a “reasonable person”, instead of the former “every 660 feet” rule. Law enforcement will have a more difficult time settling petty disputes. Idaho has always had strong private property rights and taxpayers support our ability to access public lands. Contrary to the bill’s language, this law will not renew neighborly behavior and unfortunately has the potential to cause divisions in our communities.

A Battle of the Books took place at Gooding Middle School on March 15, pitting reading teams against each other in a double elimination contest.

Students from Bliss, Gooding, Hagerman, and North Valley Academy had read twenty books, studied authors, and learned trivia. Each school had preliminary competitions to create an “all-star” team to represent their school. After a great competition, the winning team was Bliss with Gooding in second place! The winning team included: Breanna Comstock, Gracie Fairchild, Faith Ford, Bubby Palmer, Hunter Rasmussen, Nathan Rasmussen, and Mya Rowley.

Allen L. Hopwood ~ 1936-2018

It is with great sorrow that we must announce the passing of Allen Hopwood Sunday, March 25, 2018, due to a short illness.

Allen was well loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

He was born September 4, 1936, in Lincoln Nebraska to Dale and Alice (Fortik) Hopwood. They later moved to Colorado and then on to Buhl Idaho. Allen grew up with his six brothers and two sisters running farms and dairies around Buhl. Allen met the love of his life, Dorien Green, when she swiped his wallet at the Starclub near Buhl. They later married on August 5, 1956. To this union were born Rodney (Carol), Kevin (Marci), Aleana (Lucio Mitma), and Terry (Steve Zygaj). Allen and family later moved to the Wood River Valley where they worked and lived until retirement in 2001 and moving to Gooding in 2003.

Allen is survived by his wife of 61 years, his four Children, 13 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Cecil, and sonin-Law Lucio. Per Allen’s wishes a private family service will be held at a later date.

Jack Lee Boudreau, 84, of Dietrich, Idaho, died Thursday, March 29, 2018 at a Pocatello hospital.

Jack was born April 16, 1933 at Ord, Nebraska. At age 6 he moved with his family to Norwalk, California, where he was raised and educated. Following high school, he joined the US Army and served in Germany as a machine gunner.

After his honorable discharge, he returned to Norwalk. One day while he was riding horses with another girl, they passed Carol and Betty Jo Vrooman who were riding horses in the Kay Marie Taylor, 56 years old, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away opposite direction. The family would like to thank Desert View Care Center in Buhl and their employees. Kay thought of them as her home and friends. They would also like to thank the doctors and nurses of St. Luke’s Hospital in Twin Falls.

Mary “Eileen� Bartholomew

Mary “Eileen� Bartholomew a life-long resident of Gooding, Idaho passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Bennett Hills Care Center.

Eileen was born in Greenfield, MO., November 28, 1928 to John Harvey and Ellen Porterfield. They moved around a few times and settled in Gooding, Idaho in 1937. Eileen attended school in Tuttle and graduated from Gooding High School in 1947.

When Eileen graduated, her graduation gift from her parents was a train ticket to Columbia, SC. Where she joined her husband to be Clifford “Jiggs� Bartholomew also from Gooding, who was playing professional baseball with the Cincinnati Reds at summer camp. They married on June 3, 1947.

They soon returned to Gooding, Idaho to settle down and start a family. Eileen was a wonderful mother and stay-at-home wife raising 3 children, Connie, Monty and Crystal. When the children got older and had all of their own school activities, Eileen went to work at Carter’s Cleaners as a seamstress and then held various jobs for 20 years at the State School for the Deaf and Blind.

Eileen was a beautiful seamstress, gardener, cook and hostess. Some of our favorite family outings were the “feasts� served on the Salmon River. She was an avid collector of arrowheads and Indian artifacts especially after a heavy rain at Fir Grove or the 101 Ranch at King Hill. Her love for all living creatures lead to the menagerie of pets and critters she had through the years. From Benjie, her beloved little lap dog and fishing partner to Charlie Cat, Mr. Whiskers (the squirrel) to Miss M who is still with us.

When Eileen finally retired, our mother and father hit the road with a fishing pole always ready. Travelling over every back road in Idaho pulling their house on wheels.

From a simple evening drive to enjoy the beauty of Idaho to trips across the US to the Bad Lands of the Dakotas to the rocky coast line of the Northwest (Eileen loved the sound of the ocean) and to most National Parks in the West. They enjoyed the beautiful outdoors and all it had to offer and their love for each other.

Eileen was preceded in death by her husband “Jiggs� and her mother and father and all 9 of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her 3 children: Connie Bell of Culver City, CA., Monty Bartholomew of Gooding, ID., and Crystal Foss (Doug) of Soda Springs, ID; 5 granddaughters: Nikki Bell, Summer Knight (Richard), Joy Bell (Corriell), Sharona Foss and Amber Young (Joseph); 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Great, Glorious (and Free) Take Me Fishing Trailer Tour Begins In April

by Roger Phillips, Public Information Specialist Fish and Game wants to help you go fishing, but more important, get you familiar with the basics so you can do it on your own and experience the state’s amazing fishing opportunities.

Fish and Game lends a helping hand with its Take Me Fishing trailers, which are spread around the state and loaded with loaner fishing rods, tackle, bait and staffed by experienced anglers.

All budding anglers have to do is show up at a fishing trailer event with a willingness to learn, and most important, a desire to have fun.

“We’re making it really easy to learn how to go fishing, and show people first-hand how fun it can be to catch fish and pursue a lifetime of enjoyment outdoors, not to mention to catch your own dinner,” said Sportfishing Coordinator Martin Koenig.

Trailers will travel to fishing spots near communities so it’s a convenient outing for people, and events are held on weekends and after work during the week. A fish stocking truck will typically pay a visit before each event so there are plenty of trout available for anglers to catch.

The rules for Take Me Fishing trailer events are simple: Anyone who signs up at the trailer does not need a fishing license to fish at the event.

Fishing equipment can be checked out for free on a first-come, first-served basis.

Before and after the event, a fishing license is required for anyone 14 years and older.

Take Me Fishing trailer events start on April 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kleiner Pond at 1900 North Records Ave. in Meridian. More events will run statewide from April through July and into early August.
