Wendell Animal Shelter Breaks Ground
On Saturday, March 14th, the City of Wendell held a ground breaking for the new Wendell Animal Shelter.
Local volunteers and city officials (above), along with Senator Lee Heider from Twin Falls and Mary Holley from Anythings Pawsable
(right), were on hand to celebrate the official start of the construction and to thank the multitude of people who helped make this project a success. This facility is not intended to hold pets for a long period of time, but rather to provides a safe and humane place for the city to hold cats and dogs until the owner can be located. The City of Wendell asks that residents purchase an annual dog tag to help with the safe return of your pet in case they become lost. To claim a lost animal, call 536-5161 or 420-6863. Relay For Life
The next Gooding County Relay team meetings are Monday, April 6th at 5:30 pm at the Gooding County Fairgrounds Ag Extension office and Monday, May 4th also at the same place and time. Cancer survivors and personal caregivers are very special to us and that’s why we are planning on a reception dinner again this year to be included in the Relay For Life event planned for Friday, June 12th. Last year we had about 70 survivors and caregivers and this year we are hoping to have 100 people come to the Gooding County Fairgrounds that evening for a celebration of their surand Idaho ‘N’ Heroes. vivorship. 9th Annual Cowboy Poet’s Gatherin’ This Friday and Saturday, March 20th & 21st, the Magic Valley annual Cowboy Poet’s Gatherin’ will be held in Hagerman, Idaho, at the old high school gymnasium (across the street from the American Legion Hall - 218 N State Street). From 11 to 4 each day you can listen, free of charge, to the best poets and musicians in the West perform this uniquely American art form. The evening performances begin with a pre-show at 6:15 and the main show at 7:00 p.m. Suggested donation for admission to the main show is $12. As in years past, this event is a fundraiser for the American Legion

Camas County School District is accepting applications for a summer grounds keeper/maintenance position. Duties will include general lawn maintenance (watering, mowing, fertilizing, and weed spraying) and possibly some building maintenance. This position will be for the months of June, July and August. The senior citizens in Wendell are excited about the potential new building, but to make it a reality, they are going to need your help. On Wednesday, March 25th, members of the Idaho Rebekah Lodge No. 96 are having a Baked Potato Fundraiser at 105 West A Street in Wendell. Peter John Arrossa Jr.
Peter John Arrossa Jr., 70, a resident of Jerome, Idaho passed away March 10, 2015 at his home. Pete was born to Peter and Rosie Arrossa on January 16, 1945 in Wendell, Idaho. He was the oldest of three children. He grew up on a family dairy and sheep farm north of Shoshone where he worked long hours with his brother George and sister Gina caring for cattle and sheep. Pete attended Shoshone High School where he was a star athlete holding school records in both basketball and football. He graduated in 1963 and attended Idaho State University. Upon returning home to Shoshone, he began working for the BLM on the Fire Crew. During this time, he also worked for Lieutenant Governor, Jack Murphy on his cattle ranch, where Pete developed his cowboy skills and a passion for horses. Pete’s career with the Bureau of Land Management, spanned for over 40 years. During this time, Pete worked with many amazing lifelong friends. Pete married Linda Cummins on October 30, 1971 and had two children, Monty and Jamie. Pete and Linda raised their family in North Shoshone on a small horse farm. Pete was an outstanding Chariot Racer, Quarter Horse trainer and team roper. Pete was proud of his children. He enjoyed watching Jamie compete in high school sports. Upon retirement from the BLM, Pete loved traveling the Northwest with Monty racing horses at various tracks and was always the first in the winner’s circle. He was also passionate about big game hunting and cherished the times he spent hunting with his brother George, close friend, Ron Conklin and son-in-law Zach Shetler. Pete was especially proud of the success of his Grandkids, Alex and Madison as they excelled in numerous activities. He was also proud of his Basque heritage and was a member at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Jerome, Idaho. Pete is survived by his siblings: Gina (Doug) Pendleton, of Pocatello, Idaho, George (Molly) Arrossa of Kimberly, Idaho, his children, Monty Arrossa of Jerome, Idaho and Jamie (Zach) Shetler of Jerome, Idaho, his grandchildren, Alex and Madison Shetler, his nephews John (Lisa) Pendleton, of Fort Collins, Colorado, Rich (Mary) Arrossa of Boise, Idaho, nieces, Lisa (Curtis) Miller of Hailey, Idaho and Tracy (Mark) Pettinger of Blackfoot, Idaho. Eugene “Gene” B. Morris
Eugene “Gene” B. Morris, 80, a resident of Gooding, Idaho, passed away at his home on March 12, 2015, after a long illness. Gene was born March 3, 1935, in Buhl, Idaho to Ed and Helen Brooks Morris. He attended school in Buhl and graduated from Gooding High School in 1953. He attended ISU for one year before being drafted in the Army. Gene met Peggy Graves in Gooding, and they married April 8, 1955. To this union 2 daughters were born, Shery and Debra. After the Army, they returned to Gooding to continue his passion of farming for the next 37 years. During that time they also loved to camp and travel with friends and family. They were able to go to Hawaii, Alaska, and a Panama Cruise and loved to winter in Yuma, Arizona. Gene was a member of the Gooding United Methodist Church, served on the Bliss School Board, the Gooding Hospital Board and the ASCA Board. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Peggy; brother Ron (Karen) Morris; daughters Shery Harmon and Debra Wilson; grandchildren Chris (Kylee) Harmon, Stephanie (Bill) Harmon, Jeff (Carrie) Wilson and 5 great-grandchildren, Harlee, Annie, Jayden, Bella and Bergan. Gene is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Gooding. Burial with Military Honors followed at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Gene’s name to the Gooding United Methodist Church, 806 Main St. Gooding, Idaho 83330 The family would like to thank Encompass Hospice for their care and compassion, and the Doctors and medical staff at North Canyon Medical Center, and St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center.

Death - Beginning or End

“I didn’t think it would end this way,” said Pippin. “End?” said Gandalf, “No, the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path... One that we all must take.” In the movie, The Return Of The King, Gandalf imparted great wisdom to the young hobbit Pippin regarding the nature of death. Death is not the end, but the beginning. Death takes many forms. It may be heroic such as dying in a great battle. It might be cowardly such as a suicide bomber killing women and children in a shopping mall. It might be quick and nearly painless like an auto accident or long and lingering like cancer. It might be at the end of a long and successful life or it might happen before life has a chance to begin. Regardless of what form death takes, most of us are afraid of it - mostly because we innately understand that there is something on the other side and we don’t know what it is, or we do know what is on the other side and we don’t want to accept it! The idea that “death is not the end, but the beginning” did not originate with Gandalf or his creator J.R.R. Tolkin (the author of the book), but comes from the Bible. In all the history of man, there has never been a message like the one found in the Bible - namely this, that you can have eternal life with the Creator who loves you and sent His son to live among us that we might know Him. All we have to do is believe in Him. and Pippin said, “Well, that isn’t so bad.” Gandalf agreed, “No... No it isn’t.”
