Mushers Take Second at State Tournament 2022 Idaho Candidates

It was a disappointing end to an exciting year for the Boy's Basketball team in Camas County. After winning the District Championship against Carey, the Mushers headed to the State Tournament with high hopes of going all the way. Their first game was a victory over Cascade (68-52), followed by another win (6240) over Council, putting them in the championship game with the Rockland Bulldogs. It was a close game throughout ending with the Bulldogs on top with 53 points and the Mushers with 51 points giving them the 1AD2 State Runners Up! They may have missed the Championship title by 2 points, but to all of Camas County, they are still champions! We can’t wait to watch them play again next year!

Apply Now to Join Special Supreme Court Committee

Last week, the Idaho Supreme Court announced it will create a Special Committee on Judicial Recruitment and Selection. This committee will examine ways to improve judicial recruitment in Idaho and concerns raised about the membership and processes of the Idaho Judicial Council, which plays a key role in vetting and recommending judges to fill vacancies outside of an election cycle. The Court believes citizen participation and input is crucial to this process. Today, members of the public and attorneys who are interested in serving on the committee may apply to do so by submitting a letter of interest, along with a resume or biographical sketch, to specialcomm@idcourts.net. “The Idaho Supreme Court supports an approach to addressing concerns about judicial recruitment, including Judicial Council membership and processes, that is inclusive of the views of all three branches of government,” said Chief Justice G. Richard Bevan. “But also critical to finding good solutions are the perspectives of those that the courts serve every day, both attorneys and non-attorneys.”

Applications are due by April 8, 2022.

Those selected will join a magistrate judge and district judge who also will be appointed to the committee. Information for judges who wish to serve will be provided separately to that group. In addition, the Court invited Gov. Brad Little, Senate Pro Tem Chuck Winder and House Speaker Scott Bedke to nominate two members each for the committee. cont. page 7...

Friday, March 11th, was the last day to file to be on the ballot for this year's Primary and General election. While there are candidates from five different parties running for elected positions, Independent candidates will not appear on the primary ballot, and Constitutional and Libertarian candidates will not be on the primary ballot unless there is a contested race for those parties. Ten individuals are running for Mike Crapo's U.S. Senate seat including four Republicans, two Democrats, and one candidate each from the Constitutional, Libertarian and Independent parties. Russ Fulcher (District 1 U.S. Rep) has no Republican challengers, but will face a Libertarian and a Democrat this fall. Mike Simpson (District 2 U.S. Rep) has four challengers for the Republican nomination for his seat, and one Democrat. The big list of candidates is for Governor with thirteen names to sort through - eight of those individuals are running for the Republican nomination. In our local legislative district races there are new and old choices to make due to redistricting.
