Is Gun Control a Big Issue?
There is an ongoing push to have every city (and county) in Idaho pass a resolution supporting “Second Amendment Sanctuary.” Many cities have done so, others have not. While there is wide support for the concept, cities have no legal jurisdiction over gun laws - cities, counties, and other entities can not regulate gun possession - and many officials are not comfortable with using the term “sanctuary.” This word implies an intent to actively oppose federal law enforcement. Clearly, this is the intent of some individuals. However, the majority of Idahoans simply want our state legislature to uphold our constitutional right to “keep and bear arms,” something our state government has worked hard to do. So... what’s the big issue? Gun control groups continue to use misinformation in an effort to enact gun control laws. In a recent press release, three such groups (Everytown for Gun Safety, Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action) claimed that, “despite law enforcement opposition, GOP state lawmakers are seeking to nullify federal gun limits.” First of all, law enforcement officials The High School Basketball season wrapped up this past week with have known for a long time that most gun laws do nothing to wins and loses for area teams. prevent crime.
