Dietrich Girls McGinnis Takes Gold Again Take State The 50 game winning streak for the Blue Devil Ladies basketball team ended two weeks ago with a 40 to 41, edge-ofyour- seat loss to the Carey Panthers in the District Tournament. Even so, they didn’t let that defeat detour them from continuing on to win their third straight basketball Championship at the State Tournament with three decisive wins over Kootenai, Mackay, and Kendrick. Last Wednesday, the Dietrich Boys took first in the District Tournament with a solid win over Carey (58 to 49). They will be playing in the 4th game (8 p.m.) of the State Tournament this Thursday at Caldwell High School against Kendrick. The 1AD2 Championship game will be on Saturday, March 2, at the Idaho Center at 9:30 a.m. In 1AD1 Basketball, the Shoshone Boys took second at the District Tournament, losing to Grace by only three points (44 to 41). They will play their first game of the State Basketball Tournament this Thursday at 8 p.m. against Kamiah at Vallivue High School in Caldwell. The Championship game for this division will be played at the Idaho Center on Saturday, March 2, at 11:30 a.m.
Cole McGinnis took gold for a second year in a row at the Idaho State Wrestling Championships held this last weekend at ISU in Pocatello. Competing in the 3A 285 bracket, McGinnis took the championship in four straight matches, all of which were pins. He was not alone, however, in bring home glory for the Gooding Senator’s Wresting team. Torin Brunson, competing in the 3A 152 bracket, took a second place with two pins and a 2-1 decision. His only loss was in the championship match against Nic Arnold from Sugar/Salem which ended in a 4-2 decision.

Sam Dalton took 4th in the 3A 182 bracket and Landunn Koyle finished 6th in the 3A 195 bracket. Other Gooding wrestlers who competed at the state championships include, Tristan Kaneaster, Jeff Hernandez, Santos Gutierrez, Salvador Lopez, Spencer Ferguson, Junior Gutierrez, Kaden Barrus, and Eric Finley.
