News For The Love of Logan

I first met Logan about ten years ago while my son was having speech therapy at the Camas County School District. Logan had some major special needs and was confined to a high-tech wheelchair. My son made a unique connection to Logan and for about two years, they encouraged each other in ways that helped both of them grow in maturity. Then, Logan’s family moved to another community and my son went off to college. Ten years later, Logan’s family has moved back to Fairfield. While he still has special needs, he has found new friends. Not only that, Logan and his brother Max now have a small business started as an FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project. Finding a FAA project in which Logan could be involved was a challenge. The answer came when the CCHS team discovered Logan’s super sensitive sense of smell. The team decided to start making bath products with various scents approved by Logan. Max, a freshman at CCHS, supervises the manufacturing of the products which include bath bombs, lotions, foaming hand wash, and more. To make sure the business is a success, Max is also learning all the aspects of running a small business, including growth. Just before Christmas, the team added Kylee Whittle (another Camas County FFA member) along with her home-made natural and preservative-free lip balms. At the beginning of this semester, several more Camas County FFA members have requested to join the all-volunteer team, including Logan’s youngest brother, Xander. “For the Love of Logan” products are now available to order. Just send an email to: fortheloveofljs@gmail.com They will send you an order form and a scent sheet. You can also check out their facebook page. All profits from this project will be used to assist in offsetting the significant, and on-going, financial costs inherent with the care of a special-needs individual. Additionally, profits will be used for the continued participation of Logan and his brothers in FFA. Being a friend to someone with special needs can be difficult, but the rewards can be extraordinary!

Recall Petition Started In Lincoln County

Political conflict has been simmering in Lincoln County for several years now, but in the last couple of weeks it has come to a boil. Being an elected official is never without challenges, and there are always those who are dissatisfied with the decisions made by government. Lincoln County is no exception. Some of the issues that have upset various residents including the disbandenment of the P&Z commission, wage increases for the county commissioners, and most recently, the county courthouse. The historic Lincoln County Courthouse, built in 1904, is one of the oldest courthouse building in Idaho still being used for county offices. Being over a century old, the building has numerous problems, and for at least ten years the county commissioners have been working to find solutions to things like handicap accessibility (ADA), moisture in the basement, and a third story floor that is sagging. In the last couple of years, two community surveys have indicated a majority support for rehabilitating the historic building. This was also the recommendation from the advisory committee on the courthouse. Last fall, a $6 million bond election for courthouse renovation and an annex garnered over 51% support, but because bonds require a super majority, it failed to pass.
