Press Release During the last year, the City of Shoshone Police Department has had a difficult time maintaining officer positions and keeping shifts fully covered. The City Council has had discussions over the last several years regarding the viability of maintaining the Police Department. Officers have had to work hours above normal duty, and still shifts cannot be fully covered. The City Council feels that this situation could result in public safety issues for our community. For these reasons, last night (Tuesday, February 9th) the City of Shoshone voted to dissolve the Shoshone Police Department, and contract with the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office for policing services. This decision is effective as of today, February 10, 2021. This has been an extremely difficult decision for the City of Shoshone City Council. The Council feels that it has done everything it can to continue to maintain the police department, but it is no longer sustainable. Due to this decision, the City of Shoshone no longer has positions available for police officers, necessitating layoffs. The Lincoln County Sheriff, Rene King, stated that any officer can apply at his office for a deputy position if they are interested. We are confident that the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office will provide good, professional law enforcement services to the citizens of the City of Shoshone moving forward. The City of Shoshone would like to express our appreciation for the many police officers over the years who have given hard work and dedication to the citizens of the City of Shoshone.

North Idaho's Clearwater River would serve as a channel to transport the valuable timber in annual log drives that would span a half continued on page 3... century.
