Idaho Athlete Heads to Big Ten Game

Many of Idaho's football fans are loyal to the Broncos (BSU) and the Vandals (UI), but this weekend football fans in Gooding will be watching the Big Ten Championship Game between Michigan and Purdue, and their focus will be on Michigan's #18 - Colston Loveland.

Loveland attended Gooding High School, where he starred in basketball and football. He caught 235 passes (91 as a senior) for 3,141 yards and 35 touchdowns at Gooding. As a senior in 2021, he was rated as the No. 1 player in Idaho and won the Gatorade Idaho Player of the Year award. After receiving offers from a dozen schools across the nation, he signed with the Michigan Wolverines. In January of this year, he enrolled early at the University of Michigan and participated in spring ball. He formed an instant connection with the team and tight ends coach Grant Newsome.

In the November 26th Big Ten East Division game, Loveland caught a 45-yard pass for his first collegiate touchdown, and gave Michigan a 24-20 lead early in the second half. The Wolverines never trailed again and went on to a 45-23 victory over Ohio State.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh had nothing but praise for the freshman tight end, both as a player and for his commitment to giving 100% in everything. "He has tremendous natural instincts for getting where he needs to be. I can't wait to see him (Loveland) continue to grow."

This Saturday, December 3, Michigan and Purdue will face off at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Kickoff for the game is set at 8 p.m. ET. The winner will earn the Amos Alonzo Stagg Championship Trophy and a chance to play in one of the six bowls that comprise the College Football Playoff, including the Rose Bowl Game.

"All Industry" Hiring Event in Twin Falls

The Idaho Department of Labor will host a hiring event featuring employers from various industries on December 1st from 4 to 6 p.m. The event will take place at Twin Falls Reformed Church - 1631 Grandview Drive North.

These employers will be hiring for various positions, including caregivers, delivery drivers, electricians, entry level transportation security officers, equipment operators, maintenance work ers, sales associates and others.

Fairfield Planning & Zoning Drafting New Comprehensive Plan

It has been nearly 20 years since the City of Fairfield has of ficially updated their Comprehensive Plan. In January, 2023, the Fairfield P&Z Commission will hold a public hearing to con sider changes and to hear public comments on the document.

Over the last ten years, Idaho has experienced tremendous growth in it's urban areas. Our smaller Idaho communities have been affected by that growth as well, but the challenge of provid ing services is harder in small towns. Even a small subdivision can create difficult problems if there is no Comprehensive Plan in place for community development. Unfortunately, planning documents are often set on the shelf to gather dust until some one walks in with a big idea. That's when we discover those documents are out-of-date and inadequate for the community's needs. Fairfield's Comprehensive Plan is not totally inadequate, but it needs updating.

The Comprehensive Plan (Comp Plan for short) is not law, but is a required planning document under Idaho Code 67-6508. Idaho Code outlines 17 areas of local land use planning that need to addressed, although, not all of these components are applicable to cities the size of Fairfield. Some of the components include: Private Property Rights, School Facilities, Economic Develop ment, Public Services, Hazardous Areas, Community Design, and the big one... Land Use.

Comp Plans are designed to be a snap-shot of where things are today along with ideas on how to maintain the good things in a community, as well as addressing the needs of the future (i.e. planning). A Comp Plan is often looked at as a roadmap to community growth, and frustratingly, growth that may or may not happen. This sometimes leads to the belief that growth will never happen. However, the downside of not having a good "roadmap" is that growth is often dictated by developers rather than the people living in the community.

Residents of Fairfield can view a copy of the Draft Comp Plan at the Fairfield City Office (407 Soldier Road), or online at: www.cityoffairfieldidaho.com. Goto the "Planning & Zoning Department" tab under departments and click on the words "Click Here to View". Written comments can be sent to the P&Z Administrator at pandzfairfield@frontier.com or mailed to: PO Box 336 - Fairfield, Idaho 83327.

Cup of Tee by Tee Hurd

© Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. This year

I spent Thanksgiving with my daugh ter, her boyfriend, his friend, two nieces, and my granddaughter. Normally, I cook a Thanks giving dinner, but this year I was a guest. I had several invitations to dinner and I was thankful for all of them.

Early Thanksgiving morning, another niece from Eastern Idaho was at my mom's preparing for her day of multiple family dinner attendances. She had made some homemade rolls to share (fine rolls I must say!). Both her and I were going to different family functions, so she shared some rolls with me to take to my dinner. I placed the rolls in the cab of my pickup truck so I wouldn't forget them. I called my host and said I had rolls - no one needed to worry about them.

Before I could attend the later day Thanksgiv ing dinner, I had to move a tractor and a loader that would be needed early Friday morning. I hauled the equipment and shuttled the loader to my boss's place where my pickup was.

My driver's window was open about 4 inches so I could open my door (the door latch was broken). Last week I also snapped off the pas senger door handle (my way into the pickup). I walked up to the pickup and placed my arm inside to open the door. I started getting a vi bration feeling and immediately pulled my arm out. I thought something electrical was going on.

I looked inside to find 5 wild cats running from door to door trying to get out. I opened the door and the cats exited my truck via the

dash, the seats, and from behind the seat.

Looking down I saw a good share of the rolls had been Thanksgiving dinner to those cats. I was furious! No humans or cats were injured at that moment. It was Thanksgiving.

"Calm down, Tee."

I made my dinner appointment and before we started to eat, we each took an individual moment to express what we were thankful for. Once everyone had spoken, I told them the rolls I was bringing were dinner to some wild cats.

Everyone had a small laugh and my daugh ter said, "Dad, it's Thanksgiving and can be blessed. The cats probably needed a good meal as well." Dinner with family, friends and not some friends was enjoyed.

On Friday after Thanksgiving I was visiting at a friend's house. She had some cats detained inside waiting for spaying at the veterinarian. They managed to escape outside and didn't want to come back inside. I told her to allow me to get them back in. I took some of the remaining roll pieces and put some nearby the cats. They loved it and immediately followed me into the house. She looked at me with a puzzled look. I told her the rolls were a "cats meow" and were very sought after.

I understand rolls have been around in some shape or form for 10 to 30 thousand years. I don't know for sure since the information wasn't printed in the Courier. But... many a man was probably saved from buck-tooth cats (sabretooth tigers) by giving the a roll.

This is my “Cup of Tee” saying, "Bless and please pass the rolls!"

Recount for Hagerman Bond Election

While most of Idaho's election results have been finalized, the Special Revenue Bond Election in Hagerman received a "Recount Order" from the Idaho Attorney General’s Office which will take place today - Wednesday, November 30th - at 10:30 a.m. at the Gooding County Courthouse.

The bond which would be used to improve to the water system of the City of Hagerman failed to pass by one vote: 195 IN FAVOR and 196 AGAINST. Because the bond is to be repaid from water revenues, a simple majority is all that is needed to pass.

The question on the ballot was to allow the City of Hagerman to incur indebtedness, and issue and sell it's revenue bonds in an amount not to exceed $4,800,000 to pay the construction costs of improving the water system of the city, to be payable solely from water system revenues over a term which may not exceed forty (40) years, as more fully provided in Ordinance No. 1094.

Statewide Trout Stocking Highlights For December 2022

Some of Idaho’s lakes and ponds are soon going to be bolstered with Idaho Fish and Game stocking roughly 9,500 catchable-sized rainbow trout this December. Wondering if the stocking trucks are going to be backing up to your favorite fishing hole? We asked our Fish and Game hatchery staff to boil down some of the most notable stocking highlights coming to your local fishery this month.

Many of these fisheries highlighted below are easy to access, family-friendly fishing destinations. All you need to get started is a fishing license and some basic tackle. Annual adult fishing licenses cost around $30, junior licenses (ages 14-17) cost $16, and youth (under 14) fish for free. Go to Fish and Game's online vendor to buy a license.

Fishing for stocked rainbow trout can be a great way to introduce budding anglers to the sport by using simple, inexpensive setups like worm/marshmallow combinations or commercial baits like PowerBait® or Crave, placed either near the bottom or below a bobber; and as anglers know, there’s nothing quite like a trout fighting on the end of your line. The Learn to Fish webpage offers diagrams for basic bait rigs.

Most Idaho waters are open to fishing year-round, but some may have slightly different rules. Be sure to pick up a 2022 Idaho Fishing Seasons and Rules Booklet – available at any Idaho Fish and Game office or most sporting goods stores statewide – or download online to look at season dates, special regulations and bag limits.

Magic Valley Region: Filer Kids Pond and Filer Pond - 900 rainbow trout

These two ponds are a quick drive from Twin Falls. Both feature excellent access with regular trout stocking. Kids Pond is open to kids 12 and under. Filer Pond is open to anglers of any age.
