Snow Is On Its Way

Before you know it, our roads and streets will be covered with snow, and with that change in the weather will come the necessity for snowplows to take to the streets. In Fairfield, the accumulation of snow can be a big challenge when it comes to finding enough room to remove it safely and efficiently. To that end, the Fairfield Street Department asks that residents of Fairfield review the city's Snow Removal Policy (Resolution 2005-01). No parking in the middle of the streets: Parking on your own property is preferred. If you don't have room on your own property, park as far as possible to the edge of the road. Vehicles will have to be moved as soon as possible in order to plow the banks back. Vehicles and trailers not in use shall be parked off of city rights-of-way. The City will not plow walkways or driveways. Several private enterprises are in the business of plowing snow and the City cannot compete with or take business away from these individuals. Private snow plowing enterprises and residents will not deposit snow on any City property. Eligible property owners who have circuit breaker status through Camas County can request consideration by the City Council for snow removal assistance. Vehicles must be removed from Soldier Road after 3:00 a.m. to facilitate snow removal. North of Ponderosa Street vehicles may remain but must be moved as soon as possible to push the banks back. No Alley snowplowing unless approved by the City Council. All Alleys and Streets must be cleared of all vehicles and miscellaneous debris. In accordance with Idaho Code 6-904: A government entity can only be held liable if there is gross negligence or willful misconduct resulting in damage or injury. The City must use snowplows to clear their streets for the good of the citizens. The City cannot prevent snow, ice, rocks, and debris from being picked up by the City snow plow blade. The City has no other choice but to use this equipment or stop plowing the road altogether.

deductable?" These questions can be difficult to answer, and when you reach the age of 65, there even more choices. April Harden recently started working at Muffley Insurance in Gooding as an agent specilizing in health insurance. "One big misconseption about agents is how they are paid," she said. "Individuals do not pay us for our advice. The insurance companies pay us." That means it costs you nothing to talk with an agent, and that can be a huge help when trying to navigate your choices. Currently, we are in the open enrollment period for Idaho's health insurance exchange - November 1st thru December 15th. Also, if you want to make changes to your Medicare coverage, you have until December 7 to do so. Whichever you need, a health insurance agent can help you find the right plan for your particular situation. Regarding Medicare Mrs. Harden said, "Many people don't realize they are required to signup for Medicare when they reach 65. If they don't, they could face a penalty." The Late Enrollment Penalty (LEP) mainly affects people who continue working past 65 and want to remain on their employer's health plan until they retire. A LEP will be incurred if that insurance is not considered creditable. The big thing about LEPs is that they are a lifelong penalty. If you are approching 65, you have a 7 month window to signup - three months before and three months after your birth month. If you plan on working beyond 65, talk with your health insurance agent to make sure your coverage is adiquate to avoid the LEP. April Harden at Muffley Insurance is happy to help you with your health insurance, but you can find a list of other certified agents and brokers online at YourHealthIdaho.org
